This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!
:)
I paired the Jcrew City mini in ripstop cotton in stripe here :)

I'm going to my fourth wedding this summer in two weeks and would prefer to not have to buy anything new. I have the arabelle dress but think it looks pretty bridesmaid like. Any suggestions to downplay the bridesmaid factor? Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a lightweight blazer to throw over it?
DeleteI could give that a try, thanks!
DeleteI was thinking of getting a few items from the girl's sale at size 14 (I'm petite), and wondering if others do this, too? Or am I strange and should stay far, far, away -- being 29...
ReplyDeleteI would, if I could fit in them. Last year I got a girl's cashmere sweater and it was snug on me, so I gave it away to a friend's daughter.

DeleteCan't hurt to give it a try. (Re-posting because my inner grammar teacher was having issues with typos in my first attempt.)
DeleteI'm a relatively slim but hourglass petite, and I find that girls' clothes, including Crewcuts, don't fit the curves of my body. The skirts just don't hang right. I do occasionally buy Crewcuts accessories because I like the smaller scale of the necklaces and sashes.
I know there are some petites out there who have blogged about experiences with Crewcuts. Search the extrapetite.com blog for photos of Crewcuts looking sharp on a sophisticated petite young woman. The blogger Fast Food and Fast Fashion also wears Crewcuts, though I must say the styles she picks look juvenile and are not flattering on her.
I say go for it, especially since Crewcuts offers free shipping all the time! Please know that Crewcuts runs small in general. Most petites do best with the boys line, which is somewhat more generously cut.
ReplyDeleteI especially recommend the shoes - a K5 is equivalent to a 7 or 7.5, depending on the shoe, and the K4 is equivalent to a 6 1/2. Some of them are beautiful and not childlike at all!
Good point! I should add that I love my Macalisters. I'm a 6 1/2 and I ordered the K5 (probably should have gone with the K4).
DeleteBelieve it or not they're BETTER quality than the adult version at a fraction of the point. The adult version was too narrow for me and because it's unlined, I couldn't get my foot in the boot.
The Crewcuts version is lined with smooth leather and has held up well.
I take a 5.5 in the Janeys and (last season's) Valentina pumps. I got the Crewcuts MacAlisters in a K3 and have room to fit trouser socks, and hopefully a cozy shoe liner later when it gets colder. It was a little snug with the liner and socks, but my feet seem to shrink in the cold (and swell a little in the heat), so I think with that and hopefully some stretching with wear, I should be able to get in everything I want in the shoe! They are quite comfy, and I'm excited to use them in the fall.
DeleteI think the MacAlisters run on unisex sizing and are a little bigger since I can fit socks and whatnot inside in a K3. For reference, I tried on the girls' Coraline patent flats in K3, and they fit perfectly with bare feet. Quite cute, but a little too neon for me, so didn't keep.
Seeking advice on the Silk crepe maxidress, #18088, in black. I'm tempted to keep it, silken and simple as it is, but it is somewhat sheer and I'm having trouble deciding whether it is really too sheer or acceptable. Opinions? Maybe with a half-slip, or is it only wearable as loungewear? Thank you for your opinions!
ReplyDeleteHelp style my scalloped linen suit! The jacket is rather tight, so I can't wear anything that will add bulk.
ReplyDeleteThe styleguide and the website layered it with a white tee, but that feels to casual for work. Thanks, JCAs! :)
Lightweight silk top underneath? Madewell, jcrew and joe fresh all have a similar style that has buttons down the front with no sleeves. Might work because it's so light?
DeleteThanks! I've tried styling with such things, though buttons or ruffles on the front plus the scallops added up to too much going on down the front. Maybe a navy blue, collarless silk top would be good.
DeleteThat's a good idea too! Banana republic has had some in the past. I have one in pink that I wear under suits.
