Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. The Robson Street store no longer has the 25% off sale but there is still a wall of shoes left at very good prices. Flat sandals at $24.99 and Sydney patent and Marci wedges at $45.99. Also some Cecelia high heels.

    Some reviews here. (2 posts)

  2. No additional 40% off at Valley Fair and no sale section. I picked up the optic dot boatneck in both colors, as well as the colorblock perfect fit tee.

Also tried the poppy red toothpicks, but did not feel like I would wear the color yet. I tried a perfect shirt in the liberty leo scarlet. It was my first time trying a perfect shirt, but my impression was that the fabric seemed thin.

  3. I didn't visit this weekend, but did go last Wednesday to see the New Arrivals. I've posted photos and reviews of several of them on my blog here, here, here, and here.

  6. Hi All,

Went to 5th Avenue store & King of Prussia Mall store - both plentiful with new Fall 1 arrivals! I purchases the Tippi Bow Dot sweater in cream- it's adorable & not online or in the catalogue yet. Obsessed with it! Photo here: http://instagram.com/p/NpG-U3I2uO/

    1. Great pic, Amy, I'd been thinking the bows were knitted in. What are they made of?

    2. wellfedfred - The bows are little bunches of black thread that are tied together at the middle and secured to the sweater. I have some detail shots on my review here.

  7. 40% off still going on at short hills, NJ store as of this weekend, but I found nothing.

Also, I tried on the new shrunken anorak (#95062) in blue. First the good: lightweight, side pockets for hands plus functional zippers and pockets in front, adjustable around waistband. The bad: it's HUGE! I usually buy coats, blazers and dresses in a 4 so I tried the small to start with. I could fit a friend in there with me. So I tried XS, that too was pretty big even with a sweatshirt under it. So my PS ordered me an XXS. Hoping that fits. A little worried about the arm length but everything else will definitely fit. I just wanted to warn anyone who might be interested in it. Don't let the "shrunken" name fool you.

  8. Went to the Prince Street store in NYC. Not one item left in the store on sale. Tried on the toothpick cords in the sea salt color but decided to wait since I won't be wearing cords in the summer. Is this a color you can wear all winter?

Also tried on the downtown field jacket in navy. I love the look of this jacket, didn't love the fit. The sleeves were way too long and I hate jackets without pockets you can easily put your hands in. Disappointed.

Left with the Mila polka dot ballets with the red toe. Adorable and being broken in today!

  9. I bought the Ink Dip Popover in African Violet and Vivid Turquoise at the Edison, NJ store. None of the sales assistants seemed to know it had been marked down to $49.99. It's on the web at $49.99, but the sales assistant told me it was $72. I got both colors for $49.99 plus the 40% off. They have the Neon Persimmon color too, but it looks more like neon salmon so I didn't bother with that one. The material struck me as being a bit thin, but maybe that's just me.

    1. No new markdowns in the store yet which is why the SAs weren't "in the know" - that's why it totally pays off to creep on the sale section online so they can match the price! :)

  10. Hi!
I didn't know where to post this (and I hope not to be repeating anyone else's post with this).
There are two new videos shot by Garance Dore for J.Crew on her blog:

  11. I was able to got to a b&m on vacation in the U.S. last week. I was so excited but of course there was nothing left in the sale section and they barely had any new arrivals on the Thursday I was there.

I did buy the matchstick jeans in Old Glory wash which I liked better than the starlight wash because it is darker. They were comfortable on but when I compare them to my other matchsticks they are bigger in the same size, not sure if that was a fluke.

I also tried the port of call sweatshirt but it was shorter than I wanted on me at 5'7". I sized down one but found it a little boxy.

  12. Hoped I'd find some great deals in the sale at my local B&M - NOTHING. It was pretty pathetic. My sister-in-law did get the last pair of neon rose cafe capris for $25. The new items were everywhere and they were GORGEOUS. The colors were even more beautiful in person. They had a neon fuchsia Tilary purse that I may have to save up and splurge on!

  13. The Durham, NC store had nothing but dregs left on sale, a bunch of Soludos (worst partner idea ever?) and some sad-looking vintage cotton tees. Maybe 4 green rattan clutches. Still extra 40% off though.

I liked the look of the polka-dot Tippi but I think I will stick to the solids I have. I did see the python-print No.2 skirt -- LOVE, as predicted -- but I'm waiting it out. It would be months before I could wear it anyway. If I could get it for ~$100 I'd be happy w.that.

To be honest, just didn't see much else. Striped painter tees? Sure, but I need another one like I need a hole in my head, so I'm trying REALLY hard not to buy them!

  14. Pictures of Katie Holmes on the Daily Mail wearing what I believe is the new bow Tippi sweater (with the little black bows all over it). Go, Katie!

  15. I did visit on Friday and tried on a few items and made a purchase of the Painter boatneck tee in stripe byzantine blue, love the buttons which are actually snaps. I did try on the Snowcat- Boy Shirt, I like it but the sizing seemed a little larger than past seasons. Good news for Denverites that like Madewell, the store in Park Meadows is scheduled to open on Wednesday, based on information from my fav. SA at J Crew. She said the store is beautiful. It is right across from J Crew. In this month's issue of Elle (page 92) some patterned pants from J Crew-$350, they look like #16 from the look book but can't see the waistband and those appear to have pockets???

  16. My store had an early morning fall preview yesterday. I picked up the Navy Schoolboy and the No. 2 in Retro Jade. Everyone who went also received a Timex watch regardless of the amount of purchase.

  17. OT but Original Genny posted this over the weekend..Refuse to pay the crazy high prices for JCrew Libery print floral shirts? For $49 you can get a high quality floral shirt as well as other prints from UK company jackwills.com.

I ordered a lovely Liberty like shirt-$49 over the weekend with free shipping and got the notice that my order has already shipped via UPS due to be delivered within 3-5 business days. I will post a review once I receive.

    1. Awesome! Mine r on their way too! I could never pay $150 for a shirt. I know these r nice. Lived in the UK for a few yrs.

    2. I got a little confused on the sizing, am usually a 6 in J Crew either regular or petite but went with an 8 based on their sizing charts. I should have asked you for sizing tips before I ordered. Oh well, hopefully it will fit fine. Thanks again.

    3. Yes you were smart to size up. you definitely need to go up 1 size if not possibly 2 depending on your shoulders and bust but you should be good. I remember the first time I walked into a shop the first week I lived there and tried on my usual american size and I could not even get the coat on!

  18. LOL, Elaine. And I need another one like I need another hole in the armpit ;) Ballet button tee is the last one to bite the dust-- as of this weekend, holes on both sides. Sigh. To give JC some credit, this one lasted five months--that's certainly longevity compared to some others that have lasted two hours-two months.

JC's response to holes in the armpit? "Normal wear and tear." Uh, right.

No more JC tees for me!

  19. I went to my store yesterday to try on some new arrivals. Has anyone else had trouble with the fit of the Snakeskin No. 2?

JC pencil skirts always fit me perfectly and I almost always wear a 0, but the 0 in this one was SO tight around the bum/thighs. I tried a 2 and it was way too big around the waist, had extra fabric that puffed out just below the waistband (where my love handles are) and was huge at the bottom, but just barely fit around the bum/thighs. It looked ridiculous.

I tried on the wool and herringbone No. 2 pencils as well and they fit perfectly in the 0, so it seems to just be the Snakeskin version that I'm having this problem with.

    Anyone else? Or just me?

  20. I swung by my local b&m this afternoon. Absolutely nothing left on sale. Was generally disappointed by how little of the new fall merchandise was available. I did try on a bunch of stuff and bought a few "must haves," though.

They only had the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in manor tweed and snakeskin. I tried on the manor tweed, and liked it a lot. I will hope that there are still some left in my size once it hits the sale rack because I don't "need" another pencil skirt at all, let alone enough to pay full price. I was surprised -- I didn't like the snakeskin as much in person. It's got a bit of a pink hue to it. I would prefer a black/white/grey version. Didn't even try it on.

I tried the silk tie neck shirt in polka dot print. Loved it. Fit TTS as other JCAs have reported. This one came home with me because I think there's a good chance that this won't make it to the sale rack.

I didn't expect to love the blue/maroon Tippi in polka dot, but as soon as I tried it on, I knew I had to buy it. Very flattering and the large dots don't read as juvenile in that colorway as in some of the others due to the lower contrast, imho. This came home with me too.

I also bought the white bow/dot sweater. It fits similar to Tippi, although I don't think it's technically a Tippi because it has buttons on the back. One thing I didn't see any other JCA mention -- the bows on the back of the sweater are less frequent than on the front -- they only appear every other row instead of every row as on the front. I like the look of it all around.

I also tried on a sleeveless blouse in a mint green color that I do not see on the website (I believe that it was the Naomi, which I see is already on sale online). I didn't love it. It had buttons halfway down the front that gave the appearance of pulling even though the shirt wasn't remotely tight. I even went up a size, and then 2 sizes up and it did the same thing. Weird.

I passed on the optic dot boatneck. The fabric was really firm and rough. Might soften up in the wash, but I'd like to hear some reviews on that before I consider it. Flattering, but just didn't like the feel of it.

I also passed on the rugby stripe top. It had absolutely no shape to it. I tried on a medium (my usual size) and it was very generously sized. I might have tried on a small to compare except that I hated the fabric so much. The linen blend was so crazy rough and itchy -- hated it. Too bad because the colors were really nice.

Last, I tried on the painter boatneck in mint. Fit was nice, TTS. I may look to pick one or two of these up on sale.

I was sad that my store didn't have any of the liberty print shirts to try on. I fell pretty hard for the Indian Red one which seems to have disappeared from the website today. If it comes back, I might suck it up and order it at full price. I know that some stores got this, so I might have to track it down if it doesn't come back up on the website soon.

    2. Thanks-- I think I'm going to go ahead and call tomorrow. The possibility of missing this one feels like it's worth full price. I appreciate the leads, too. I love your IRL pictures -- they totally seal the deal for me :)

  21. I just saw that the FActory store is having a 30 to 40% off sale for button down shirts.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the two pocket silk blouses. They are substantially cheaper right now than the Blythe blouses, and that blue is lovely.

  22. OT-does anyone remember the wool double serge bow pencil skirt that came out years ago similar to the cotton but black wool? Can anyone comment on fit? Im thinking about purchasing one on eBay and the seller told me the hip measurement was 14in across on a size 0 :/. I know that can't be right?

    1. She must be measuring it from seam to seam vs. circumference. Which would make it 28".

  23. Janet.....I also fell hard for the Indian Red Liberty print shirt and when I tried it on I loved it. I paired it with the no. 2 in golden burgandy and it's a gorgeous outfit. I bought both (the skirt was on sale). I knew I'd wear the Liberty print shirt alot and just didn't want to chance it selling out. I think it's the most versatile of the prints....it has so many lovely colors that I can pair up with so much I already own. I hope you can find it!

  24. Janet, the Charleston, SC, b&m (843-534-1643) had the Liberty shirt in Indian red as of last Thursday. If you really want one, give them a call. If you wait until tomorrow to call, ask for Billy. He's my ps and super nice.

  27. Curious if anyone saw the legion stripe blazer (same one in the header image) in the sale rack? If so which store? Looking for a size 2, but I might be able to get a price match if I can get a store with stock. It's supposed to be $79 in store but still $159 online. I know it's had bad reviews but I'm intrigued.

  28. Hwin - North Avenue in Chicago had 6 on the rack last week. Larger sizes but they may still have something for a price match.

  29. The Collection store on Madison an 79th was still having 40% off sales yesterday even if there is virtually nothing left on sale (maybe some jewelry? Not sure of what they have left. In any case they ordered for me the dreamweaver clutch from the red phone and applied the 40% off.

OT but it seems that the Fifth Avenue store has taken over the Bridal and Parties Collection, I received an email saying that you can make an appointment with a wedding specialist
