This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.
Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)
White sequin jacket....worn to my bridal shower (kinda casual so I don't mind doing denim, but not TOO casual)....
ReplyDeleteI think the trick with this jacket is not to make it look like a costume...
Hi Jamie, I styled the jacket three ways! It's so cute! http://everydaymusingsetm.blogspot.com/2012/07/friday-fashion-sequin-jacket.html
DeleteGood morning ladies- just thought I'd mention it again; I have put together a feature on my blog with JCrew window displays. They always give me inspiration as I love seeing how stylists do their work. I am always adding new ones and occasionally old ones too ( have a bunch I collected over years and never posted) . You can see them all here. Have a wonderful day!

and looking for more nontraditional ways to style it. Thanks!
Hi Ladies,
ReplyDeleteAny ideas on how to style a JCrew scarf (or any scarf) in the summer? I have the leopard print from the most recent sale. I'm traveling to Europe and would like to wear the scarfs, but I feel funny wearing shorts and tank tops or sleeveless dresses with a scarf...it seems contradictory. All I can find on style blogs are tying suggestions. Hmmm...any summer scarf wearers out there who can share some ideas? Thanks!
How about first trying a scarf when out at night? I think in the evening, any way of wearing one would work. I can't remember if it was in last year's catalogs or website styling, but I remember seeing J. Crew models with the scarf simply hanging down -- no looping or tying -- and then held in place at the waist by a belt. Not sure if that look is really "in," but I remember liking the look of it!
DeleteMeggers: What about tying the scarf to your handbag? Then if you go in a building or restaurant where it is chilly, you can wrap it around your neck (or even your shoulders).
DeleteAnother option would be to wear it in your hair as a headband, headscarf, or if you have long hair, as a ponytail tie. You could also try wearing the scarf as a belt at your waist. You can either put it through the belt loops of pants, or wear it as a waist belt on a dress. I did that last summer with one of my shirtdresses and J.Crew scarves. The polyvore set of that outfit is here.
Also, I've worn scarves in the warmer weather with a tee and blue jeans. I usually wear the scarf wrapped very loosely around my neck. Here is another polyvore example of an outfit like that which I wore last year.
If the scarf is large enough you can wear it as a halter top.
DeleteFFM's suggestion to tie it on your handbag is something I do often. When I'm inside and it's cool I wear the scarf around my neck but once I go out into the warm air I remove it so it doesn't absorb perspiration.
Thanks, Joanie, Fabulous Florida Mommy, and xoxo! All fabulous ideas...a scarf is very versatile. Can't wait to try them out!
DeleteStyled post of the pleated blouson dress here . Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteJCAs, I picked up the No. 2 pencil skirt in marrakech purple and neon pink during 30% off. I love the colors, but I've hard a hard time thinking of what color tops should be worn with them (aside from white). I'd love to hear any ideas or what has worked with these! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI have the No. 2 skirt in royal purple and in bright rose - similar colours to what you have - I pair the purple skirt with my black & white gingham perfect shirt, and I pair the bright rose skirt with either a navy/white striped tee, or else a chambray shirt. HTH!
DeleteI pair my neon pink with a navy tee with white stripes that I purchased at Aritzia. It also looks great with a fitted dark denim jacket.
DeleteI have paired my neon pink skirt with the neon pink linen tippi. I have worn it with the new Multi flower lattice necklace or plain crystal necklaces.
DeleteThank you so much for the ideas!!!!
DeleteDoes anyone else have the silk/modal fish print scarf? I was so drawn to the print that I just had to have it, but I can't picture it with anything other than a plain white tee or tank. I want the print to be the star, but paired with what? TIA!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if the dark background colour is navy or black, but it would look good against that as well, or even a grey or other neutral colour. It's hard to tell because the scarf is sold off the website so I cannot see much of the detail.
DeleteI bought the Ankle Toothpick Jeans in Neon Pink. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make the outfit a bit more subdued and sophisticated? Neon Pink is probably a bit hard to subdue...but any suggestions are appreciated!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to tone it down, how about pairing with something neutral on top? The more conservative choice would be something like a navy striped tee or a chambray shirt. An edgier choice might be a white or nude coloured silk drapey tee or other loose-fitting shirt.
DeleteI tried it with the navy tippi with the white heart print.
DeleteI searched for 'neon pink' items on the JC site and checked out how they styled these items. I see neutrals and chambray.
DeleteI would pair the pants with a blazer (temperature permitting!) and a nice silk top. A black or white blazer will probably make the pants pop more. A navy, grey or beige blazer might be your best bet. Tweed could also be a fun choice.
DeleteThat being said, I agree, neon pink is difficult to subdue.
I just saw all you're wonderful suggestions! Thank you so much, I have so many new ideas now :)
DeleteJust came across this link from the local paper; they had three local ladies style the porcelain paisley pencil skirt. Sharing in case anyone is interested:http://blogs.tennessean.com/shopping/2012/07/13/pencil-skirt-panache-3-women-3-looks/
ReplyDeleteI wore mine for the first time on a date with hubby last night--paired it with a Talbots dark chambray button up, wide brown belt, and pink Mira sandals from BR Summer '11. Thought it was cute. Never would have bought the skirt without seeing all the love/ideas here.
