This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
I hear that a J Crew fragrance is being released this week. Curious to see what that smell will be!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! They need to name it "obsessed. "
DeleteOr "Crewlade".
DeleteOr "$"
DeleteOr JCrack
DeleteOr "Borrowed". From the boys. A unisex fragrance.
Deletethere's always "Effortless". And the cologne version would be "effortlessly".
DeleteIt didn't occur to me that it would be any other thing than J Crew. You guys are hilarious.
Delete* Obsessed clearly would've been the first pick if there wasn't already a perfume w/similar name.
* (J Crew) - in parentheses for you, WFF!
* Drexler
* Jenna's Pick
* Ruffles & Sequins
Or "PREP" (as in prepare to spend your paycheck, or went to prep school...whatever works for you).
Delete"Compulsion" gets my vote.
DeleteReviewed July sale items here - Dizzy Anchors Dress, Lucille Dress in lace, Ribbon Stripe Boatneck Tee, and Silk Bow Cami
ReplyDeleteEven though the description says navy, the stripes on the striped derby dress (85745) I received yesterday are most definitely black. So is the lining! Red and black were my high school colors, which didn't flatter me then and don't now. Back it goes!
ReplyDeleteNavy Cafe Capris here:

I truly love these pants and think they are really flattering! I am contemplating the ivory!
Does anyone have irl pictures of the Blythe Blouse in Shallow Sea? TIA.
ReplyDeleteOr marrakech purple?
DeleteScroll to the bottom and you will see IRL pics of Marrakech Purple here
DeleteI posted a side-by-side comparison of the J. Crew Perfect Shirt in Polka Dot Chambray and the Gap Polka Dot Boyfriend Shirt on my blog yesterday. I also have a review of the Madewell Artdot Blazer. I'd post a link, but for some reason I keep getting an error message. HTH!
ReplyDeleteHello, love your review! Wondered if you could post the style number of the Gap shirt? Thank you.
DeleteHi Cheryl! I'm glad that the review was helpful! The style # is 243596002. HTH!
DeleteThank you so very much! It helps a ton.
DeleteFeatured Dree Dress in Deck Stripe today on the blog. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

If you can still get your hands on the Raj Paisley No. 2 pencil, grab it! I received so many compliments! See it here:

And I would LOVE for you to join my blog! :)
I love this skirt so much it's ridiculous. I never thought it would hang out in the same section this long....I have the dress and the perfect shirt as well and am very happy I invested in all 3 items. I will wear them foreverrrrr!
DeleteI got tons of compliments when I had this skirt on Sunday! I love the raj paisley print!!! I have an OOTD post with the skirt on my blog too!

I reviewed the Dreamweaver clutch on my blog today. I love it. The size is great and the textured leather is so stylish. I'm really happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI also reviewed the Collection No2 pencil skirt in gingham tweed: the "red" bits are in fact neon. I was disappointed with it at first but it has grown on me. Very well made, it is Collection and has a nice acetate lining.
Happily, I was able to order the citron frog bracelet yesterday morning and then my wonderful personal shopper was also able to locate the blue one for me. I am excited to receive both soon, but wonder who has decided to keep both and how much wear have they have gotten from them. I ordered the citron initially because I didn't think she would be able to find the blue and now wondering if it makes sense to keep both. Would love to hear thoughts from those with two frogs. thanks!

ReplyDeleteoriginal genny - Pics of the Havana clutch in cerise and in stripe.
DeleteWhen I use it I can fit a small camera, phone and lip gloss in there. I don't bother with a wallet and simply pull out my id and credit card to drop into the clutch. I also use it in a larger bag i.e. diaper bag or beach bag. It's nice to have the clutch to pull out if I want to leave the ginormous bag in the car to go into a restaurant, put it under the stroller, etc... I hear you on shipping. If only order one clutch your 40% savings drops to 25%.
I have a review of the Thea maxi dress on my blog, here.
ReplyDeleteIf you scroll down there is also a review of the short-sleeved sweatshirt and the tippi sweater in luscious blue.
The Thea looks fantastic on you! Mine is on the way and I am hoping it works for me too!
DeleteI posted reviews of Tippi cardigan and painter boatneck tee HERE. And ladies, I am going to preview the fall collection today at the concept store. I cannot wait!
ReplyDeleteajc - take me with you!
Deleteajc - *I* can't wait so I can't imagine how you must feel!
Deleteconcealed webcam? please?
DeleteThat is so exciting!! I can't wait to hear about it:)
DeleteI'm with Tabitha and everyone else, take me with you!!!!
DeleteLol, I wish you'd all come with me, we would have a blast! I was thinking about one of those James Bond devices like silent camera in the sunglasses activated from my pocket...
Deleteajc, will you be able to snap some photos? Enjoy, I can't wait to see the fall collection!
DeleteCan't wait to hear your thoughts on it, wish I could come along
Deleteajc: How exciting! I also wish I could go! Please do snap some pix if you get the chance! :)
DeleteIt is spectacular. Are you going to a special event, or just looking?
DeleteI can't wait for your feedback about the store.
Pat
Hi, there is a new store opening in my area and I received an email saying you will receive a special gift with your purchase of $250. Does anyone know what these gifts usually are? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIn Toronto the GWP was a cloth tote bag with a map of the city.

DeleteDoes anyone have the striped whisper gauze peasant blouse? I saw it last week at my B&M, but it looked very billowy and unflattering, and it was still FP, so I didn't try it on. But I love the look of it and I love the material. Anyone?
ReplyDeleteElaine, I tried it on a while back (on my phone so I can't link to the post...sorry!) and it was a hot mess on me. I think I sized down in it but it was still way too big, too billowy, and was incredibly unflattering. I have seen it look good on others though, so there might be hope for you :)
DeleteElaine, I tried it on in this post. Link to AppGal, AJC and Handbag Aficionado's reviews as well. I liked it quite a bit. If I'd paid full price I would've worn it at least 5x by now. It's nice to be on its way on sale.
DeleteThanks y'all! I may have to just got try it on, bc judging from the measurements it seems like I would need a Small but I'm normally a Med in JC tops....hmm. I'm thinking it would be super cute in red with white matchstick crops or shorts.
DeleteGigi, lol at sitty nine fitty! :P

ReplyDeleteI got the Tippi sweater in crushed grape this past weekend. I have the animal print Tippi from last fall and when I did a comparison of them side-by-side (in size small) I noticed that the new Tippi has a slightly looser fit. It wasn't enough for me to want to size down, but it may be relevant if you're looking for a super slim fit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I wanted to pick up the tippi in the vibrant flame but they only have the xxs, do you think I could size down? I usually take an xs. Thanks!
DeleteFor reference, I am 5-2 and wear P0 bottoms, P00 tops.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the vintage boatneck tees with elbow length sleeves that I got in my last order. The boatneck is so, so flattering. They are a bit long on me but easy to tuck in. They are slimfitting. I am terrified that they will get holey soon though but at $12 a pop, I won't be devastated. I got three different colors, two each. I got the XXS.
Going back are the Saint Jaimes galathee striped tees in pale pink and celery green. I have broad shoulders but XS ended up loose on and gave me an unattractive '80s silhouette (weird how loose clothing makes you look bigger rather than smaller). I don't think they were offered in XXS. But fit issues aside, the cotton is high quality and substantial and the colors were very pretty.
As a small petite, I am generally sized out of a lot of J Crew tops and sweaters unless they offer them in petite sizes. Otherwise the waist hits too low and I end up with a lot of fabric in the wrong places. I guess that is just the way it goes.
Some reviews here.

Can anyone comment on how this season's featherweight cashmere items are holding up with time? Don't own any cashmere period, but the sweaters in the sale section feel divine. But if they're just going to pill or look terrible after a few wears, I would rather not waste my money. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHwin, I bought one on promo (purple color) and after a week returned it, it was getting fuzzy in its cellophane wrapper as it sat on the shelf. This may not be true of all the colors, they may come from different mills.
Deletefred, you make me lol pretty much every day. :)
DeleteDead serious, E, I wanted that sweater to make an outfit with tank top & gardenshade pencil skirt. Oh, well, just have to buy something else. It's stylin day, any ideas?
DeleteI think the purple silk bow cami would look great with the gardenshade skirt. It surprisingly goes quite well with my sovereign paisley skirt (plus nude sandals). I love how pieces from 1 season that you wouldn't think to pair together end up looking awesome. Usually I discover this by accident when I'm trying on a bunch of different things and still have a top/bottom from the previous combo still on.
Deletethanks, Hwin!
DeleteDoes anyone have a review of the Polly popover in silk-screen dot? Is it somewhat sheer?
ReplyDeleteI have it. It's a little bit sheer from what I remember (I always wear a cami under stuff, so I wouldn't necessarily notice this), but I feel like you could get away with a nude color bra. Hope that helps!
DeleteIt helps. Thanks! :)
DeleteTXgirl14 - the polly popover in silk screen dot is not sheer at all. The fabric is substantial and textured, and some of you may think it's too much for a warm day. As some have noted, the "dots" are a pink salmon color, not beige.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see it while writing my comment but after reading HollDoll129's comment, I went back to look at mine. And it IS sheer enough to see the outline of my hand behind the fabric. However, the fabric is not thin, if that makes any sense. It has a thicker gauzy feel. I hope this clarifies a bit.
ReplyDeleteMakes complete sense and I appreciate you being thorough. I didn't want something I "had" to layer all the time. And...the anchor aweigh pants are coming my way too. Thanks for your input on those!
DeleteI got the poppy red viv flats (love them!) and to my eye at least they aren't red but orange. That works for me! Also, I got the Minnie pant in purple. Love those, too!
ReplyDeleteI got the Minnie pant in purple, too, and I think I'm obsessed. Does anyone know if there were any other colors available on sale?
DeleteI really like the minnie pants and have them in two colors--black and british khaki. They always seem to stretch out in the butt region after a couple hours of wear. Am I ordering the wrong size, or does this happen to everyone?
DeleteJanet, my B&M - Park Meadows, Colorado had some of the British Khaki on sale $29.99 + 40% off, yesterday.
DeleteADMD, I find the same thing, so I have sized down and will see if that happens so much Also, I wash mine not dry clean, so I only wear once.
AD MD, I'm having the same issue with my Minnie pants. I think I will try throwing mine in the dryer before I size down, but I haven't worked up the courage yet.
DeleteThanks so much, JRSConifer! I'm going to call today and see if there are any still available!
DeleteHas anyone tried the INEZ patent flat sandals?
ReplyDeleteAre they TTS? Reasonably comfy? The sale price is tempting but the patent looks hard and unforgiving. I have narrow feet but still, it is final sale!
I have the Inez patent flat sandals. They are TTS - I ordered the smaller of my usual JC shoe sizes and they fit well. The patent strap that goes over the top of the foot is wide enough that it doesn't hurt my feet. However, the elastic piece at the back of the ankle strap does rub a bit against the Achilles tendon so I'm still on the fence about them (I bought them before final sale kicked in so I still have the option of returning them.)

ReplyDeleteHi- I am a longtime reader, but just started blogging myself.I just popped into my local B&M (Garden State)the JC concept shop, and they were merchandising all of the new fall goodies. (Unlike the wonderful AJC, another GSP habitue, I don't have a smart phone, so I don't have pictures, sorry.)
ReplyDeleteThere were beautiful spectator with chains Chanel type ballet flats- no price, but the SA thought about $200-eek. They came in Camellia pink and black, and saddle and cream. There was a Jules type shift in a vibrant green, a saddle and cream striped (OMG)cashmere mockneck ($228), a 2 tone cobalt and lighter blue bubble necklace, and lovely glass stone cobalt and deep green jewelry. There was a fabulous ecru lace embroidered bracelet sleeve top- with a little stretch- very elegant- $98.
Chanel tweed-esque capris in a violet with black and white. One of the loveliest most inspiring collections they have had for a while.
I was sorry I had spent my gift card on summer as I walked out! ( although I did have the enamel striped crystal bracelet in my sights for awhile-$16.36 with my educator discount!)
I snagged a catalog, and will try to post some images. (My primary blog is geared towards knitters- so feel free to stop by if you are interested, but I also have a fledgling fashion blog
(www.ontrendorchids.blogspot.com), and I will try to put the pictures there. They are so awesome, I would love to share!
Pat
Wow - just saw the images on your blog! Thank you so much for posting!
DeleteThere are actually fewer must-have colors of the wool no. 2 skirt than I was expecting, which is kind of a relief. I'm sure by the end of the season, I will have changed my mind though :-)

DeleteThanks for the post...love the potential of the upcoming Fall items. Really liking the camel colored blazer --- just realized, I do not have that color in my blazer collection :( weep!
DeleteOooh -- thanks for posting. I love those tassle Monas, and the wool No. 2 pencil skirts are always my downfall!
DeletePosting here too--thanks so much for sharing!
DeleteI'm a knitter too-and the photos of the intarsia sweaters that J Crew has for this fall has me wanting to make a knock off . . .
Thank you for sharing the photos!! The new rollout looks really good - I am so excited. Plus it is excellent motivation to step away from Final Sale and save up for the new fall collection!
Delete@knityarns and cate - it wasn't the solids pencils that got me, it was the prints! The botanical one and the snakeskin esp! Thanks for posting those pics knityarns! Can't wait to get my new catalog and start dreaming for fall!
ReplyDeleteI agree - I am already saving my pennies for the botanical print and the snakeskin!!
DeleteHas anyone tried the Hutton raw silk pants in vibrant flame?
ReplyDeleteDOes anyone know if the linen perfect shirt in white is sheer (or semi--is a cami needed?)? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSemi. I wear a cami, but if your underpinnings are skin toned, you'd be ok without it.
DeleteBought the No 2 Pencil Skirt in Neon Tweed this afternoon. I'm concerned that it might snag but for $18 I was willing to risk it. Need to size up, I think...I am usually a 2 in these but took a 4. Could also just be too much ice cream but I'm willing to blame sizing inconsistencies. :)
ReplyDeleteoh, good, I thought it was just me! :) I also needed to size up.
DeleteI sized up as well. When I tried on my normal size 0, it was very unforgiving. A sales associate confirmed that is ran small and the cut was a little off.
DeleteOK guys, I just came back from the concept store and I loaded bunch of pictures from the fall collection HERE. Reviews coming up next. Now I think I am just going to collapse on the coach.
ReplyDeleteOmg! I even llove those pink twill jeans! So much to love in those few photos. Thanks for for being on the front line for us!
DeleteA few sale reviews and a more in depth review of the linen bow short here and here
ReplyDeleteI finally got a pair of Mona suede heels (Wildberry) - I took a size 9 in the leather Valentina's but needed a 9.5 in the suede Monas. I have never bought that size before in JC heels but the 9 would have been too tight (the toebox seems narrow). Love the color. The heel is high so I will need to practice walking in them as I really notice the difference even compared to my 3.5 inch heels. :)
ReplyDeletePuckered dress - fit TTS for my usual dress size. I bought the peri as the white looked too juvenile on me. I liked it because it felt easy, breezy for these crazy hot summer days. It is comfortable and I have washed it instead of dry clean and it came out fine. It hits me a little above the knee (at 5'7"). For the instore price it was worth it.
7" chino shorts in white - I always buy the 7" shorts but I thought I'd review the white. They are a little see through, you can easily see the pockets through the material (the website shows this too) and if you don't wear nude color underwear you will see them. I wanted white shorts though so I'm keeping them since it's hard to find ones that aren't really sheer.
Porcelain paisley skirt - like most JCAs I love this pencil skirt. I took my usual size 4 and it fits well, not tight. Very comfortable to wear. I wish the pattern lined up on the sides though.
Thanks everyone for the reviews and pics. I agree with AJC, I should have bought less for summer!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a review or irl pic of the provence stripe tunic? Does it fit TTS or large?
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about the Hutton pants for a while now - especially the purple ones on sale. Anyone purchase a pair? Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteFeatured Saint James Galathee Tee & Sovereign Paisley Skirt in today's post:
ReplyDeletehttp://biscuitsandnavy.wordpress.com/2012/07/18/endless-possiblilities/
Enjoy!
I love this outfit! Wish I had bought the skirt. How does the tee fit?
DeleteI highly recommend Kaleidoscope capris- they are just so lovely- I posted few RL pics here . They do run a whole size large, so size down. I have tons of older reviews onmy blog as well.
ReplyDeleteReviewed the Provence-Stripe Tunic and 3" Shorts in Tiki Print here.
ReplyDeleteFor those people suffering through the miserable +30C/+100F temps and intense humidity, the J. Crew Panama hat is definitely worth the price. I cheaped out and bought a paper/poly knockoff from Aritzia and it turned out to be a total waste of money, not to mention an instrument of torture in this kind of weather. The real thing is super lightweight and breathable, and really protects from the sun as well as keeping your head ventilated. Short review on my blog here.
