This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
Did anyone get see/try on the Factory Charlie sweater? I see that it's cotton, which I like. How thin is it? How does it compare to the Tippi? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think the Charlie was called the Thandie, just a couple weeks back. I tried it on, and it fits like the Tippi. It's a lightweight knit, somewhere between the Jackie and the Featherweight Cotton Cardis. My4Boys has a few OOTD's on her blog http://tweedandtoile.blogspot.ca/ HTH
DeleteThe lighter colours are a bit see-through as you can see here.
DeleteI have the navy / red striped one and the purple solid version. It seems like the striped version is slightly thicker and better quality. Not sure why though.
DeleteVery helpful. Thanks ladies!
DeleteReviews of the Baby Brompton plus 2 other new bags on my BLOG.
ReplyDeleteAlright, mystery solved. The other 2 purses are the Marceau and Brompton Bucket, both from FW11. Have updated my post.
DeleteSo the other day, I was walking by J. Crew and saw a strapless dress in the window that I can't seem to find on the website. It's white, with an a-line skirt, and a sort of medallion print in navy thread. Has anyone else seen this dress in store? Tried it on?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I took a long break from J.Crew but am now rediscovering it. :) I remember I stopped shopping awhile ago because I was getting tired of the ruffles and lack of quality but now they seem to be going back to the more conservative J.Crew that I remember from a few years back. Is this actually the case?
I think you are talking about the Filigree dress which appears to be sold on the website. I haven't tried it on.
DeleteBought this dress last week and wore it to a wedding - actually love the dress, surprisingly comfortable. That said, I sized up as I made the mistake of trying it on after a substantial lunch, only to find that when I put it on for the wedding, it was too large. But at least it was good for all the sitting and eating that evening ;) It's light and airy. Am now planning on removing the boning and adding straps so that it will truly be a 'beach dress' as JC would have it.
DeleteIf it is indeed the Filigree Embroidered Strapless Beach Dress you saw, I tried it on and have a review here. I saw plenty of them in my local B&Ms even though it's sold out in store, so your stores may still be well-stocked too, and I believe it's on promotion.
DeleteJ. Crew does indeed seem to have returned to a more conservative style similar to that of a few years ago. I wasn't a J. Crew shopper back then, so I'll let other JCAs weigh in on the similarities and differences between then and now, but it does seem that like you, many former shoppers got disenchanted with the younger look J. Crew headed toward in 2010 and voiced their sentiments, leading J. Crew to revise its path.
Also, anyone with opinions on the polka dot tie neck dress who would like to share them, they would be greatly appreciated. I just saw it online and love the look of it!
ReplyDeleteSome reviews here and here.
ReplyDeleteI just received the toothpick cords in pale turquoise: nothing pale about this turquoise, they have been returned, there will be a pic up on my blog tomorrow. No zips this year which I prefer, size wise, oh well, they don't fit like the ones I have from last year but the ones from 2010 which seemed to be be tighter, so they did give me a muffin top but I carry my weight at my waist, so others may not find that.
ReplyDeleteI also got and retuned the cashmere t in green - it is a glorious shade but without the cords I would have nothing to wear it with.
Next up the Everly shoes, in black and ivory, leather lined, very comfy, I am in th long process of selling all of my Louboutins to buy lower heeled shoes that I won't keep " for good"!
I just measured, the 2012 toothpicks I received are half an inch less in the waist - it's not me!
DeleteYour cashmere T in green would go great with the porcelain skirt, I think.
DeleteWhat size Louboutins?
DeleteSee a review and IRL pics of the café capri in silk foulard here on my blog.
ReplyDeleteyay.email - if it's the filigree dress, Gigi of the wonderful blog Gigi's Gone Shopping tried it here and with links to others.
ReplyDeleteI reviewed the Dree Dress & Factory Cotton Shift here :)
ReplyDeleteReviews of the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Wool in Berry Pink/Festival Blue and the Enameled Elephant Bracelet in Retro Jade HERE
ReplyDeleteHTH!
OT: Decent sized update to the sale section this morning. There are a few new promo-priced items (Collection pencil in photo floral on promo, btw), as well as markdowns today. Updated women's list here. I am in the process of updating the men's list which is here.
ReplyDeleteReviews of liberty print shirts and some new items not yet onthe website in my today's post. Yesterday I had reviews on jeweled colar sweater and pink herringbone capris and on Friday I posted about pink pleated wool skirt and some new tweed items. Sorry, cannot link from my phone.
ReplyDeleteA few new arrivals and sale items here
ReplyDeleteI am trying to wear some of my FS purchases now. Review of 2 accessories here: http://ontrendorchids.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletePics of the neon pink cashmere tee on sale now, as well as the porcelain paisley skirt (already much reviewed!) here.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't see it, I also posted pics of the nutmeg snakeskin Lulas, grey suede Martinas, bronze Valentinas and bronzed beige Jayne t-straps here.
Altazurra for J. Crew Manon skirt runs small. I'm a 28 or 29 in J. Crew jeans but the 29 in the Manon skirt is 2 sizes too small.
ReplyDeleteI don't write official "reviews" but I often give short opinions on the J. Crew (and other retail store) items that I buy. I also often mention what I paid which could be helpful when sale shopping or planning/budgeting a purchase.

Has anyone seen the retro jade color of the double-serge wool pencil skirt in person? I'm curious as to what color it's leaning toward...more turquoise or more green? I have the viridian green skirt from last year, so I would love for it to be more of a turquoise.
ReplyDeleteAppGal: My retro jade skirt will be delivered today. I'll post a review ASAP!
DeleteYAY!!!
DeleteAppGal: I just posted a side-by-side comparison of the colors on my blog! HTH!
DeleteHas somebody seen the wide bangle IRL?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the color vivid lime was actually more of a jade?
How would you describe the color?
TIA
Ina, I have a narrow bangle that is probably the vivid lime color. It's bright green, not at all jade. I will email you a photo.
DeleteThanks gigi!
DeleteToday's post features extra long pencil skirt in warm jade, edie purse in oasis green, vintage cotton tee and forgive me, a necklace I got during the sale, but I can't remember the name of it. It's green:)
ReplyDeleteVisit biscuits&NAVY
super cute outfit!!! It's the Tessellate Necklace.
DeleteCouldn't find your comment section but what a lovely outfit, in the US folk are so smart for Church- we go like tinkers over here!
DeleteBiscuit -- LOVED your outfit! I have had that necklace on my radar for months and your picture inspired me to finally buy it. But alas! Gone from the JC site! I've got WWFIFY looking for one for me...fingers crossed.
DeleteHeart Sweater post here :) Have a great day everyone!
ReplyDeleteworkdayweekend
OT...why on E-Bay do some shoes have a line through the J Crew logo ? I am assuming this means sample ? thanks
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. Many times it means they came from a clearance center or distribution center. Most items bought there (even if they are actual retail items) will have a line through the label. They do this so that items bought that are still offered in stores/catalog cannot be returned to retail centers. HTH!
DeleteSo this means E-bay sellers have purcahased these items at a discount and reselling them to make a profit ? Are some of these items ones that didn't pass quality contols ? Like seconds ? THANK YOU...
DeleteThey do this all the time. Buy items on sale and sell them for a lot more. Makes a profit, though.
DeleteAre they seconds..meaning not perfect for the retail store ? thanks
DeleteThe items at the distribution center stores and warehouse sales run the gamut from perfectly good items, to samples that may have been worn or not, or maybe never released, to shopworn and/or damaged. The times I've went I've carefully looke over things and have definitely had to put items back that had holes, snags, marks, etc.
DeleteOn items being resold on eBay, I would think it to be hit or miss. If you are dealing with a reputable seller they should not be misrepresenting an item's condition. Not sure if you care but the "professional resellers" tend to ridiculously mark up the items. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth knowing they are charging $150+ for shoes they bought likely for $35-50, for example. Keeps me from buying from them and sticking to stalking popbacks and the JCA "looking to sell" post.
Hope that helps!
Thank you...yes this does answer my question and has helped. I think I will skip E-Bay and do as you suggest.
DeleteSome reviews of recent sale items, including two colors of the Cafe Capri here. I just received my order of the Cafe Capri in Casablanca Blue - a gorgeous, stunning color - which will be in an upcoming post. Also, I have received the August catalog in the mail and am almost done with scanning it; all sections, including Crewcuts, will be up on The J. Crew Archives later today. Thanks again to Fabulous Florida Mommy for getting it online so quickly!
ReplyDeleteThe cafe capri in Caribbean tweed is a great markdown--from $148 to $39.99 and still available in all sizes. Just so you know, the orange is, well, ORANGE. In the photo it looks like the tweed might have a white background with orange and purple threads, but it's orange. Also, the effect is a little more plaid than tweed. I'm going to keep them, because I don't have a choice, LOL, but I know that my DH is going to loathe them.
ReplyDeleteAs for fit--this year I've found that the cafe capris seemed to be a little smaller compared to last year's, so I ordered a size up, but it turns out that these seem a little bigger than the other cafe capris from this year.
I can't keep track of their whacky sizing, it's really putting me off considering returns cost me $55. Savvy Americans are buying 'pieces' for that with all the discounts/promos they get - J crew please offer the same promos for international customers!
DeleteJust wondering if any has picked up the featherweight cashmere stripe boatneck tee and how it's holding up after a few wears. I love the feel of it and it looks great on, but I don't want to make a $90 commitment to something that I'll end up just wearing at home.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I bought the nickel/navy one, and the other ( lol, crazy colorful striped ) . LOVE it. It wears very well and is just right for a day when the breeze chills you. Not sure where I will EVER wear the multi stripe one ( the website didn't really represent the color well. There's HOT pink in there! ? But, they really are nice and very light compared to the other cashmere. :-)
DeleteLast night I received the J. Crew silk cami in the mail. Of all my J. Crew purchases (which is admittedly not many since I'm a J. Crew newbie) I was most excited about this top, since seemed like a good casual breezy wardrobe staple. I'm 5'3 and fluctuate between 100 and 105 lbs, so I ordered the regular XXS. The adjustable straps had well made hardware, and it definitely helped with adjusting the top to the appropriate fit, but the overall length was still too long for me. I've found that petite sizes usually run a bit too small for me, so I will typically opt for the smallest regular size instead. Maybe this is one instance where petite sizing may have been better suited. The silk made this everyday cami more luxurious and special, but it's worth knowing that the fabric has less of a silky feel and more of a matte rubber feel. I worry how much maintenance it would require after being worn in the Florida sun since sweat would become an issue. If you live in Florida or a like climate, high maintenance fabrics like silk may not be the best option. I was hoping that I could add a little more sheen to my wardrobe with this piece, but it just doesn't seem practical. Wish this would have worked out, but it's going back in the mail today.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted that top -- I love the idea in theory, but in reality I know I'd either sweat through it (I know, ewww) or get something on it that wouldn't come out. :( So I admire from afar, lol.
DeleteYeah, unfortunately it's the most admirable pieces, like the cami, that usually end up being impractical, at least in hot humid climates. All of my J. Crew keepers so far have been made from cotton. :P
DeleteAltuzarra for J Crew odette blouse (#92127)- the fabric is very nice, medium weight and the fabrication is nice. I hesitated on this because the bow might have added extra weight from the side, but it doesn't add bulk! (that said, I am flat chested and tall). The front of the shirt is NOT pleated and the shirt is very fitted in the shoulders and sleeves and has a straight hem, front and back. Easily long enough to tuck in the straight part, but looks great untucked with shorts. For winter, though, you obviously can't do dual duty with this shirt- it would look strange if you _don't_ knot the ties. But for those of us who want that tied-shirttail look, but are freaked out by someone looking at their bare stomach (ahem!), this is a very nice option for warm weather. And the navy goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteOK- hem is not completely straight, but a slight, sloped shirttail hem.
DeleteA few quick notes:
ReplyDeleteMedallion No. 2 Pencil Skirt: I had been chasing this one down forever, but it was worth the wait! This might be my new favorite skirt. I took my same size as in the double-serge cotton pencil skirts
Raindrop Lace Top: No petite option, so I went with a regular 0. It is a beautiful top, but is still a bit wide, so I could have sized down one more.
Puckered Dress: I picked it up in a 0, but could have sized down one more to get a better fit in the top of the dress. Very comfortable though.
Ella Dress in Medallion Paisley: Went with my normal dress size, fits perfectly. Again, I really love this pattern.
Linen Tippi: I picked these up in two colors, a darker purple and neon pink. VERY comfortable for the warmer weather, but I can tell these are going to stretch. Probably should have sized down.
Antique Paisley Swim Halter and Bikini Bottom: Wow, the JCAs have not been kidding when they said swim runs big! I ordered a few sizes for the bottoms based on that warning, and ended up keeping the XS (normally a 4R/6P).
Ultra Eyelet Shell: This is another item I was very excited to finally track down. 0 Regular was perfect on me, but I can see where it would be tight in the chest.
Tilary Purse in Mint: A little disappointed in this one. The mint was just a bit more green than I expected from the website. That said, I still kept it.
Congrats on the medallion no 2 pencil skirt. That is one I wanted but got away!
DeleteI was VERY lucky to come across the most patient SA ever one day. I feel like sending her a thank you card for finding that skirt!
DeleteFactory Charley sweater (97247) - bright cumin is not the bright, somewhat mustardy yellow I expected from the website picture, but is a Kraft Mac-and-Cheese orange-yellow. Disappointing!
ReplyDeleteI just received an order of pre-Fall items and posted reviews of them on my blog here.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little on the fence about the No. 2 pencil skirt in double serge wool - I feel like the wool is a little scratchier than last year's.
Off Topic -- I'm amused because I decided to bite on the Perfect Shirt in Chambray polka dot when I realized that they were bringing in more stock with the fall rollouts (yes!) -- I ordered online two days ago, with an estimated ship date of (gulp) November 26! But it shipped today :) Way to keep my expectations low, J Crew. I've never had something take as long as "estimated" but I've also never had something "back ordered" ship quite that quickly!
ReplyDeleteOT, am I the last to know that the python-print No. 2 pencil skirt is already sold out? :( Arrggghhh. I knew it would sell out, but not that fast. A-popback-stalking I will go ...
ReplyDeleteI imagine they'll want to capitalize on that and make more.
DeleteYou mean the snake print No. 2? It's still on the website in all sizes. Am I missing something?
DeleteI don't see it -- I tried searching and it didn't come up .. I will look again! Now I'm all panicky because I think I can't get one, lol.
DeleteI'll bet they get more shipments. Stalk it online and I'll bet you'll see it return in the full size run soon.
DeleteThat's so odd -- I did a search, and it came right up. I was even able to put one in my cart with no trouble. http://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/skirts/PRDOVR~11002/99102798646/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~0~15~all~mode+matchallany~~~~~no.%202/11002.jsp
DeleteJust got my J.Crew credit card rewards card. It has been forever since I got one. It came in a clearish large envelope.
ReplyDeleteReceived my final sale red Biennial Satchel yesterday. It's a really lovely, BIG bag. Perfect as a carry-on and for the train/bike commuter. No need for a purse and a briefcase - the zipped side pockets can accommodate a letter-sized file. A note to anyone considering this bag: the handle drop is not long enough to carry this one as a shoulder bag, and it does not come with a shoulder strap. This is not an issue for me, but as this bag is so large, it's not the type of bag one would carry around for a day full of errands, etc... This is a work week bag for me and I'm very pleased with the quality and finish of the leather, and the red color is simply lovely.
ReplyDeleteFor me it works as a shoulder bag and I use it every day for work -- I carry my laptop, tablet, 2 smartphones, a cardigan (or sometimes a lightweight down jacket since I live in fog city), paper notebook, file folders, water bottle. I adore this bag. The only thing I've noticed, after a few months or more of use, is that the seam on the D rings (where the handles attach) frays a bit and I keep snipping off frayed thread.
DeleteI liked the Biennial Satchel too....but passed on it. It IS NOT a daily purse. I'm a tall gal and this bag was HUGE for me. I could only see it as an overnight or carry-on. Lovely, but gi-nor-mous!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any problem seeing all sizes available in the no.2 snakeskin skirt. I just went to "women" and "skirts" and it's in the first row.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone do a review on the Silk Dervish Paisley Tunic? Or if you have done one, direct me to your blog? I need to know how the fit is compared to the Perfect shirt...especially in the shoulders and arms. I can't decide if I need a small or medium. TIA!
ReplyDeletestraycat - I did a fitting room try-on here. It is definitely big. While the Perfect Shirt is meant to be more fitted, this is meant to be quite loose. I'm the size where while the XXS Perfect Shirt was somewhat loose on me, I could've definitely used an entire size down in the Paisley Tunic.
DeleteHi there. I tried it on at my b&m and it was a hot mess on me, but that's not to say it wouldn't be better on someone else. I tried on a Large (my usual JC t-shirt size -in numerical sizing I'm a 10 or 12 in tops). It was huge on me everywhere except for across the bottom of the shirt. The sleeves were very long and it just looked sloppy on me. Keep in mind, that I'm only 5'4".
DeleteHere it is for both colours. I love this tunic!
DeleteI got the Inez midheel sandals from the 40% off promo - very decent sandals for the price, especially as they are all leather sole and upper. I got the bright dahlia and it is a really pretty colour. Runs TTS. I ordered my usual shoe size 7.5 (I normally wear 8 in J. Crew close toed pumps like the Valentina) and they fit well.
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but just back from the craziest sale ever at the JC Yorkdale store - they have slashed prices to a fraction of the original price and are still offering 50% off on the lowest price!! I scored the Porcelain Paisley pencil skirt for $10, the Collection silk cargo pants for $25 and the striped featherweight cashmere LS tee for$25!!! That was at noon today. Pickings may be slim now, as the sale started this morning, and crowds of people were tearing the place apart.
Louise - I have just passed out.
DeleteWow Porcelain Paisley pencil skirt for $10! Now that's a sale. I wonder if I'd get a chance to score that out in CA.
DeleteI know Tabitha me too. I still have the tags on my Porcelain Paisley skirt I paid $99.99 and now people are posting $40, $10 etc. Oh well, lucky them and I love the skirt.
DeleteIf it makes y'all feel any better, I paid $142.20 for that skirt! But I don't mind because I love it. You win some, you lose some.
DeleteTabitha, I know what you mean. People were carrying off armloads and I am sure a lot of it will end up on Ebay. Hopefully the UK store will be offering deals just as good when it finally opens.
DeleteUsually it's the U.S. shoppers who seem to score the good deals, but I lucked out today. One of the sales associates said the manager decided to do a major clear out because they need to get the fall collection on the floor on Thursday, and this would be a one time only event. The skirt was not on the floor last week when I visited, but I guess they completely emptied out their store room for today's sale.
Wish they would do that here in the states. Never heard of that happening at any US b&m's. Congrats on your scores!!
DeleteI just returned from the Vancouver Robson Street store. They are running 50% off reduced prices - and the reduced prices are low, low, low! I just bought the porcelain paisley skirt for $12.50!
DeleteA note to say that I'm the one who wrote to ask for advice about going to a styling with a VPS for the fall rollout. I heard back from someone and have an appointment on Thursday. Weather permitting! I will report back. Very curious to see how it all goes and what happens.
ReplyDeleteJruby18.....Thanks for the review. I had the feeling it was going to be a big boxy square and most likely on me too big everywhere except the arms. I love the print on this and wish JC would have done it in something besides a tunic.
ReplyDeleteput up a few reviews on crewcut items i tried out here. Have a few items still on the way, if they ever ship. this is getting ridiculous. hopefully will be getting the cashmere two tone in flame and beige, chunky cashmere vneck in yellow and gray, chambray tunic, camp popover, and lula leopard ballet flats.
ReplyDeletethanks life as a cat! I just love the colors and print of this tunic. I might order it if it goes on sale....really on sale, like low. Thanks for the sizing tips!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a 50% or more sale at JC! Those are incredible prices. Why can't they do that in my town!
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe it myself. I bought 2 pencil skirts (porcelain paisley, and double serge cotton in golden burgundy), 1 perfect fit t shirt, 1 necklace, the havana clutch purse and a pair of the viv flats and the total was $78. It is astounding when you look at the original pricing - the total would have been $792.
Deletestraycat, the 50% off sale items barely brings the sale prices in line with the US sale prices.
DeleteI know the Vancouver store received more sale items today. I asked the PS to set aside some things for me to try (I think she knows what I like by now) so as to avoid a mob scene. LOL
Perhaps it is because they still make more money selling everything off at these "fire sale" prices than having to ship them back across the border to the U.S. warehouse.
DeleteRose, let us know what you pick up from the sale!
Will definitely do so, if I go!
DeletePaid $22.50 for a pair of Sydney patent sandals, same for sand colour espadrilles, $7 for luxe utility pants in olive colour and $12.50 for a blue jackie.
DeleteQuite a few raj paisley maxi dresses, rope print skirt, Lucille dresses in eyelet (both colours, as well as garden floral ones left on the rack.
Rose do you remember the price of the rope print skirts? Hoping for a 0 or 2...TIA!
DeleteI can't believe those prices! Can you imagine what will happen when things don't sell in all those new Japan stores?
DeleteAmazing deals, Rose! To think I was congratulating myself for scoring a pair of the Sydney sandals for $60 a few weeks ago!
DeleteIt was a little disheartening to see all the double serge cotton pencil skirts that I bought earlier in the season for $60-$70 now going for $10, but I am trying to be philosophical - I have been wearing my skirts non-stop since buying them and they are an essential part of my work wardrobe.
Connie, I think after discount it was $22.50. I am quite sure of it. I had both size 2 and 4 in my hands and tried them on, but passed. Not many takers for those skirts here.
DeleteLouise, it was unbelievable, for sure. I passed on the 2 purple versions of the double serge cotton pencil skirts. Even at $12.50, I didn't think I would wear them much, and I have way too many pencil skirts for the summer already. I have to think more about fall/winter.
DeleteConnie, I saw the rope skirt $45.99 + 25% off at the Robson store today. I picked up a No.2 pencil for $24.99 + 25% off. Somehow the purple one was still $49 + 25% so I left it behind at register. Sure wish I made it to the store yesterday.
DeleteI'm dying hearing this folks! so unfair!! I would have paid far more for the porcelain paisley and the golden burgundy skirts but I totally missed out. jeepers- maybe I should consider even calling some of these stores in Canada...do they do mail orders?
DeleteHi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI have some reviews on my blog, including the sequin colorblock tank, the tippi in heart me, a couple jeans, and a couple dresses. I'd love for you to check them out, and I'd be even happier if you would follow my blog!:) Thankss so much!
http://colorfulcorporate.blogspot.com/2012/07/jcrew-fitting-room-reviews.html
Just received the Cashmere Two-toned sweatshirt in Kiwi. Oh it is so gorgeous. I fully intended on sending it back because I though the color would be too loud and not transfer to future years but when it is on, it is not as loud as expected. A great piece. It is sold out but I am sure it will pop back. I have not got my rewards yet? Has anyone else?
ReplyDeleteI bought this as well to go with the citron sequin mini and they look beautiful together. Just as pictured in the lookbook. Love it!
DeleteHi FFM, I followed your link to the collection photo floral skirt but of course it is sold out. How much was it selling for on promo? My internet was out all morning. Please tell me it wasn't around $300 or I will cry! That was my max price for it. :( TIA.
ReplyDeleteHi Shekster! No, the skirt isn't anywhere near $300. If I remember correctly, it is on promo for $450. I'm leaving the link up on my blog for a few days, since there is a possibility that it will show back up again when the website updates each morning.
DeleteBtw, you could ask to have a WWFIFY search done, and ask them to apply the extra 40% that is going on in stores if they find it. That would make it around $270 then. :)
I don't think it could be sold out - I also saw it this morning and FFM was right, the discount was for something like $450 (I recall $495 but could be wrong. I only remember that it was $100 less than the original price.) I suspect they are hiding it for now because they priced it incorrectly to begin with.
DeleteLouise: I think you could be right. I just remember that it was still pricey and somewhere around $450 but less than $500. I have the link to the product page in this post on my blog. It can still be accessed that way, but does show as sold out now.
DeleteIt was definitely 495, I remember noting it was 100 off the original price. No way it is sold out, my money is on the usual j crew pricing games. My new j crew mantra is patience, faith, reward, it will be on sale one day!!
DeleteThe Photo Floral Pencil skirt is back online this morning in all sizes at full price.
DeleteHaven't seen it online yet, but I just picked up the Cabochon Fan Earrings in a neon/mix color combination (not the spearmint or peach blossom that is online). It's super colorful (bright blue, pink, green, orange), but I really love it. Stands out -- wore it in the city today and three people stopped to ask where I got them from.
ReplyDeleteI bought these as well and love them! They are a great pop of color and have received so many compliments.
DeletePolly popover in silk-screen dot:Took my normal perfect shirt size and it fit fine. The colors are pretty spot on with the website, navy with peachy/pink dots. And I’m happy to report that I do not have to layer with this one…woohoo! And I’ll agree with Tiffany Rose’s description that this does kind of have a gauze like feel to it. It is a bit thicker than I expected, which is fine.
ReplyDeleteAnchors Aweigh Pant: Love these more than I ever thought I would. Took my normal size in pants (chinos to be exact), and these fit perfectly. And everyone who said these don’t show any lumps or bumps were right. My mission now is to buy shoes and tops to go with these pants.
Invitation clutch in dot: Such a cute little purse, but the two in the store already had several scratches on them. Bummer. This purse just seemed a bit scratch prone looking at it, so just a heads up to be careful with it. Really cute though…maybe order online to get one not handled as much.
thanks for the sizing information!
DeleteI just posted reviews of the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Wool in the Retro Jade color and the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Herringbone in the Manor Purple Color HERE HTH!
ReplyDeleteDo you feel like you an wear those wool skirts yet or will they be unloved til it gets cooler?
Deletelaughter through tears: It's definitely too hot to wear these skirts now. I really like them, and if I wait, my size will be gone!
DeleteDon't know if anyone is interested in hearing about them, but I got my Bette wedge sandals yesterday and they are a great summer sandal, I usually wear a 7.5 and I took an 8, they are very comfortable. I bought the blue suede and yellow and red in leather for $29.99 each during the 40% off promo. I'm surprised there were so many left even at the reduced price, I guess no one else likes them! :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't wait for all the new arrivals to become available at my local b&m store, so I made a few purchases. I received the perfect-fit color block tee in neutral/black, ankle stretch toothpick in garment-dyed twill in golden sunflower, and the optic-dot boatneck tee today, and I am keeping all three. Very happy with them!
ReplyDeleteSome additional comments HERE.
I received a foldout look book (not catalog) in an envelope today with a $25 gift card. The book shows a bunch of the fall fashion week looks with style numbers but no prices. Some gorgeous items! Anyone else get this?
ReplyDeleteI received this package today too, and I think it's just gorgeous! Really nice to see so many of the fall items in one place, outfitted.
Deleteyes, and the gift card didn't seem to be part of the "regular" rewards card program. I hadn't accumulated enough points. Thankfully!
DeleteI'm pretty sure it's not the rewards card - it doesn't say so (it usually does) and mine was only $25 -- sadly, my next rewards card should be a bit higher than that.
DeleteIt is confusing bc it mentions being rewarded for being a jcrew customer with a their credit card
Deletereally surprised at Vancouvers sale today
ReplyDelete-pompom jacquard capris $28 -via flats $22
-Cardis $7.50
never thought they would go this low with prices up north... Carolyn from Vancouver
Carolyn, I agree it is very rare, esp. for us Canadians who are always used to getting shafted with higher prices. The SA I spoke with said it was a one time only deal. But - fingers crossed they will do this again for Boxing Day!
DeleteI placed a online final sale order for shorts. I ordered a 10 and really should have ordered a 12. Will J Crew let me return for my correct size ? thanks
ReplyDeleteOT but any JCA's in the Toronto area there is more sale stuff coming tomorrow and Friday! The prices are crazy I just came back from a second trip tonight and got 4 pencil skirts for 10 each, Cece flats and Cecelia high heel sandals for 12.49 a pair! All the perfect fit tees and tanks were 3.99 each. Louise we must have been there at the same time this morning as I left shortly after noon!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie what Colour Cece ballet flats were on sale?
DeleteHi Liz they had the flame and the blue only both suede HTH!
DeleteHi Connie, Do you know if there's any 00 in skirts or in other pieces? Sale Jewelry?
DeleteHi Cherie lots of 00's in most of the colours but moving like hot cakes. Unfortunately no jewelry as I was looking too :( HTH
DeleteFYI for Canadian JCAs, while I was at the store over lunch, the store got word that the 50% promo was over and it was down to 25%! YYMV on this, so you might want to call ahead to check.
DeleteFor a fellow JCA'er, I picked up 5 No.2s, cafe capris, poppy king, PS Hab shirt, tiered dot and a summer scarf for $118! :)
I won't even start with what I picked up, but some of the highlights were the porcelain paisley dress for 22.49 and the cashmere striped boatneck for 22.49!
I wonder why they have shifted to 25% off? Still, at these fire sale prices, it's still a fraction of the original price. I'm thinking of making another trip to see if there's anything left at this point...
DeleteLouise - Seems odd that they would change the promo mid-day, but ITA, the prices are still amazing. Did you go back to your store? Pick up anything else?
DeleteWent to the Yorkdale store this morning and it has switched to 25 per cent however the prices were lower than on Saturday. Got Cece ballet flats for $18, fish print scarf for$11 and maroon pencil skirt for $18 (I believe). My total bill was $60 however I also had a makeup and I phone case.
DeleteThe maroon skirt and fish print scarf look amazing together and will transition really well into fall with my navy tippi.
LizT-What color/material Cece's were on sale?? Thanks!!
DeleteThey were leather in neon peach I believe. I got the 9.5 and also saw a 10. I think there may not have been many because the SA asked where I had found them. The price wasn't marked so when I took them up to the cash the SA said they were $70 so I said no thank you and then the other SA corrected her and said they were $25 with 25 percent off.
DeleteI received the suede Mona's yesterday from final sale. They are absolutely beautiful shoes; however they unfortunately fit at least a full size smaller than my usual 8.5. I couldn't even squeeze my heel into them. Luckily CS was willing to offer me a "one time" return on final sale; but due to my distance from an actual b&m I'm not willing to venture a guess as to what size I might need in the Mona. Has anyone had a similar experience with her?
ReplyDeleteI purchased the No.2 pencil skirt in Caribbean tweed on Sunday and reviewed it here. My store still had several and a couple petite sizes are still online...the regular sizes are sold out unless there are popbacks.
ReplyDeletePicked up the ready-or-knot suede wedges in store during the 40% off promo. They fit TTS for Jcrew shoes (ie no need to size up like the Mona or Martina). The SA said that people have complained of wobblyness, but I wore it for over 5 hrs at a wedding and my feet felt great. The suede straps are super soft. I don't know how much they'll hold up since the straps are so thin, but at $69.99 before promo, it's a great deal.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your review! When I was at the store early today, I recalled reading your review, so I picked them up for $22.49! :)
DeleteDoes anyone have feedback on how the memo dress fits generally? I really wish they had it in store!
ReplyDeletePopcorn_Heiress - Some memo dress info:
Delete* Size 4 - chest = 36.25", waist 29", hip 41.5", shoulder width 13.75", length 37.3125"
* Size 6 - chest = 37.25", waist 30", hip 42.5", shoulder width 14", length 37.625"
and you can see it on Rose
Very helpful! Thanks so much for finding the measurements and pictures.
DeletePopcorn_Heiress - I run posts rounding up links to irl pics of regular priced items & sale priced items. :)
DeleteI have recently tried Legion Stripe jacket and found it leaves much to be desired. The shape is a boxy bomber, material is thick and bulky and it did not flatter my 5'5" bosom-y frame. I have posted lots of pics of it here and have older reviews grouped over Link text if anyone is interested.
ReplyDeleteI received the suede Mona's from final sale yesterday. The shoes are beautiful; however they fit significantly smaller than my standard 8.5. I called CS and was lucky enough receive permission to return; however I was hesitant to exchange considering the large size variance. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Mona?
ReplyDeleteThis may not be the right place to post, but if anyone sees the Edie - calf hair wallet in stores, please give me a shout!
ReplyDeleteThe North Avenue B&M in Chicago had several in the sale section ln the vround fllor on Monday. 3129510784
Deletejust wondering if they are still running the 40% off in stores with this latest round of (new) price cuts on FS????
ReplyDeleteYes, they still have the 40% off sale in stores. I got the Teddie dress for under $50 (including teacher's discount). What a steal! New arrivals are coming tomorrow so sale MAY end today, though.
DeleteAnyone see the medium biennial satchel in blue grotto? How does it look for size, color and quality?
ReplyDeleteI ordered the Classic Shirtdress in navy blue and it came last night--I really like it! The fabric feels just like the Perfect Shirting fabric; same weight and consistency. The cut was not what I expected, but I like it. It is basically a huge A-line that starts out right under the shoulders; without a belt, it is a very tent-like shape. But, with the sash that it came with and/or another belt, all that volume comes together very well and feels comfortable. Given that much volume, though, you could probably size down; I usually need a 4 or 6 in Perfect Shirts to prevent button gaping over my chest, whereas this dress was perfect for me in a size 2.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Whitley dress in antique floral? I looove the print and style, but it is poly, and it is hard to tell from the picture what the print actually looks like.
ReplyDeleteThis is off topic but does anyone know if the white or black bubble necklaces have gone on sale? They are no longer on the J Crew website. I was hoping to catch the white one on sale!
ReplyDeleteHow is the Keeper Chambray shirt running, size-wise? I just chatted with a rep. who said chest measurements for a size 2 were 37" and for a 0, 36". Sounds like this is running pretty big- is that what those of you who have tried it on/purchased it found to be true? Thank you in advance for your help!
ReplyDeleteI found it to be the same fit I get in my perfect shirts ( which is a size up from boy shirts for me due to my rather large chest). I LOVE it so much and wear it with everything!
DeleteI would say TTS,i am a 0 in my perfect shirts and bought a 0 in the keeper shirt.
DeleteHTH
Thank you Muffy and Wendy! I am off to hunt down my Edie wallet, and hoping that it is $119 (+40%)or cheaper in the store.
ReplyDeleteHOW I HATE PAYING SHIPPING FEES AND TAX BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU MUFFY (AGAIN)... I FOUND MY HAD-TO-HAVE WALLET!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how the back-zip tee fits? I love little tees like that but as soon as something says "slim meets slouchy fit" I become concerned it's a sack. Item #85392. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteStill looking for double serge cotton skirt in size 00 in burgundy
ReplyDeleteI stopped by my local b&m today to check out their new arrivals. I couldn't help myself and picked up the perfect shirt in chambray polka dot today! I am very happy. Some short comments HERE! The shirt is back online as well. They only had 3 left in my store.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn from Vancouver:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post about the Robson store yesterday! I went today and got
-Linen Schoolboy in Cerise $34.50
-Edie Wallet $34.49
-Tessa top $18.74
If you hadn't posted I would have (sadly) been unaware and missed out!
Went to the b&m store today and tried on the two new plaid boy shirts. Loved the colors but the size on the red plaid was cut much smaller! Had to size up for that one. Turquoise was tts.
ReplyDeleteJust received the snake print skirt and the pepper tweed skirt. Both are going back.
ReplyDeleteThe pepper tweed fits well in my regular size 2. The fabric is soft, it's a cotton/poly tweed. It's just nothing special. It's fine. I like but don't love.
The snake print in the same size is too big. There's at least an inch gap in the waist although hips are closer to fitting. I could size down, I may try that if I can find it in my little tiny store and don't have to pay shipping. The fabric is really lovely, a thin silk/wool blend that would work pretty much year round in my climate.
Can anyone comment on the sizing/fit of the cafe capris? I'm eyeing them in black and trying to decide if it's worth it at full price. I wear an 8 most of the time but I had to go with a 10 in the scout chinos so wondering how you guys think the cafe capri's run for size.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Rushed to the B&Ms today to see if the new arrivals were out yet; the bulk of them will be out tomorrow but I got try-on pics of a few new items, including the Zigzag Sequin Tee and a tiered lace tank and a skirt that weren't online yet. Pics on my blog. I'll be back tomorrow, first thing in the morning, to check out the actual lot of new arrivals!
ReplyDeleteBtw, I also picked up a clean, pristine copy of the August catalog while I was in, and am rescanning some pages as the catalog I got in the mail a few days ago was wrinkly, so I'm still working on the catalog but it will be up on The J. Crew Archives soon.
The cafe capris run large. I'm a 2 in the scout and waverly and a 0 in the cafe capris, and I don't wear any of the above tight.
ReplyDeleteOT- I'm in full on stalk mode for Ella dresses size 0 and double serge cotton No. 2 skirts in size 0. Any store info with super sale who might have these? I'm callig around today. Thank you:>
ReplyDeletepathos: Joelle just posted on the Looking to Love thread that the Corte Madera JCrew store has one Ella dress in a size 0, plus a lot of the No.2 pencil in burgundy, black, purple, and ivory, so they may have a size 0 in there somewhere. They are still running the 40% off as of today, too.
DeleteOoh thanks I'll try!
DeleteI got a skirt on golden sunflower and the Ella in filigree pattern. The dress is 79 less 40%
DeleteI went to see the new arrivals last night and have posted reviews and pix of the Zigzag Sequin tee, Tie-neck top in dot, and No.2 pencil in snake print here. I tried on quite a bit last night, and will be posting more reviews over the next several days, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI just posted a lot of reviews from my B&M visit last night.
ReplyDeleteSee here.
Has anyone tried the ANKLE STRETCH TOOTHPICK JEAN IN GARMENT-DYED TWILL in Neon Violet? I have the neon orangey ones (suddenly forgot what the color was called) and I love them.. Although I would also like if they were abit more coral and less orange. Just wondering if anyone has a photo of what the neon violet looks like IRL vs in the website. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone! Just a head's up: I got the garment-dyed color block stripe top in the neon azalea. The neon azalea is WAY more neon than in the picture. I know everyone talks about color misrepresentation on here between the website and real life, and this is one of those cases. Other than that it's very nice, very substantial fabric.
ReplyDeleteHey Everyone! I just stopped into my local B&M to see the new rollout. I already purchased the navy field jacket and the Liberty shirt in Indian Red. I was hoping they would have the Classic shirtdress but wasn't surprised to hear they aren't even going to get it. I'm sure they think it's too old fashioned and boring to take up retail space. Ha! So I red phoned it. I did see the snakeprint pencil skirt. I already didn't like it and after seeing it I liked it even less. It's white and the snake is grape purple. I'm seeing snake everywhere and maybe JC hoped to be different by making it purple, but I really didn't care for it. Tried on the navy/maroon dot tippi...ugh. Don't like those huge random sparse dots. Looked at the painter crew neck cardigan. Didn't realize it's a tee-shirt cardigan. Pass. Saw the bright colors in pencil skirts and don't need those. I tried on the Rugby Stripe Boatneck. Comes in three colorways. JC is continuing their love of very skinny sleeves with a huge boxy body. I would have worn a Small in the body, but it was really tight in the arms. The Medium fit my arms and shoulders great, but was huge in the body and came down to my hips...and I'm tall. Pass. Saw the big navy/cream op art polka dot pants. I passed on the skirt and I'm passing on those pants. Saw the black/white cat print pants and shirt. I have enough cat print. Pass. Also saw some printed silky (or rayony) sheath dresses. Those things would just be long shirts on me. The elephant bracelet looks like a cartoon elephant. Didn't like. I did see some gorgeous multi-colored drop earrings for $75.00. I don't wear dangly earrings and they look kinda dressy, but they are really gorgeous. I saw the abstract floral print of the pencil skirt but on a scarf. Very pretty, but I know I'm not going to want a whole skirt of it. The scarf is very thick and I think I would feel too hot, so I passed on it. On the whole, I saw very little I even cared to try on. I ended up ordering the shirtdress (guessing this thing is a huge tent except fitted shoulders/sleeves) so I ordered my perfect shirt size. And I used my gift card to buy a kelly green with navy dot scarf. It'll look good with my Oasis Green Edie Attache' and navy pants and sweaters. Today I wore my Raj Paisley pencil skirt with the linen perfect shirt in the blade/light turquoise color (can't remember what it was called) with my elephant necklace and the small coral flower earring from Factory. I got tons of compliments from ladies in the mall, but I got stared at in the grocery store. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteMore reviews of new arrivals here, including a very cute embellished dotty sweater (a Tippi?) and a shift dress in Snowcat, neither of which are online yet, among other things.
ReplyDeletelife as a cat....thanks for the reviews. I also have been so disappointed in the wool Cafe Capris due to no lining that I'm not even going to bother with them. The cream color sweater with the little black "yarn" dot was cute and I like the button back opening. It seemed shaped like a Tippi to me. I didn't try it just because it was a boring color combo to me.
ReplyDeleteUgh! I ordered the factory tippi in merino, the fit is the same but the neckline was very jagged and looked cheap, it's going back, especially since its only about 15 dollars cheaper than the real one. I also received the Factory Elodie and even though it's polyester it feels and looks identical to the silk one. Also, got the factory field jacket and I felt it fit way bigger than the retail version.
ReplyDeleteI received the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Herringbone in Watercolor Blue today. The wool is definitely thinner on this one than on the double serge No. 2, but I didn't find that it showed lumps or bumps (I tried tucking tops in and it was fine). Fit is TTS, as expected.
ReplyDeleteThe colour is beautiful, a soft blue-grey. I think it will look great with lots of colours (blues, purples, pinks, etc.) and absolutely stunning with grey (I'm thinking of a monochromatic look...so chic).
Ina and Kelly, thanks for replying about the Keeper shirt. I guess I'm going to have to get in the store to try it on, since I don't own any perfect shirts to compare it to (I'm new-ish to J. Crew). I so appreciate how helpful this community is :)
ReplyDelete@jcrew.in.mn - I too had to size up in the suede Monas. For reference, I have a size 9 in the leather Valentinas, the Olypmia suede wedges and most of my JCrew heels; however, I had to go with a size 9.5 in the suede Monas. I found them to be quite narrow but sizing up made them comfortable (well as comfortable as possible for that height of a heel :) ) HTH
ReplyDeleteI am wearing my Viv patent flats (in leopard) for the first time today, and though they are adorable (and are in my right size), they are rubbing blisters on the backs of my feet like nobody's business! I can barely hobble around my office in them. Anyone else have this problem and/or any tips for improving it? I have BandAids on, and they're still hurting. Please tell me they get more comfortable, because I got them for a steal, and I do love them!
ReplyDeleteLeah - There is little to no give with patent. You need to get the Band-Aid friction block stick. If you aren't wearing socks, put lotion on your feet to create a little slip. Not a lot of lotion because it's not worth ruining your shoes. A little can provide some movement so more blisters aren't created and the ones you have don't get worse. You're getting them because your feet are getting stuck on points of the shoes.
DeleteYou will be amazed at what the block can do. It looks like a little stick of Crisco. Rub it all over your feet, even on the bottoms of your toes. Hope you are able to get it & that it works. Oh and it might be around $5-7, but it is really, really worth it.
...Leah, just wanted to add that some regular lotion might provide just a little relief until you're able to get the Band-Aid block.
DeleteLeah, I have the Band-Aid Friction block stick and it works fabulous! I use it with any pair of shoes that are new. You can also try Dr. Scholls Rub Relief strips. Another avenue and a bit cheaper than the Dr. Scholls is Moleskin padding (at CVS & Wal-Mart), there are 2 types (one is thicker) and they work great as well... be warned though, you'll want to stick the moleskin to your actual skin and not your shoe.
DeleteI can't seem to get reply to work, but thanks so much, gigiofca! I definitely will try that stick because I love these shoes, but my feet seem to hate them! :)
ReplyDeletejust added a bunch of sale items and new arrivals to my J. crew reviews post HERE
ReplyDeleteJust as a warning to those who may try to hand-wash the silk bow cami. It says "dry clean" (without the "only") and the fabric seemed ok for hand washing. It bled horribly with just cold water before I even added mild soap. It looked like I was trying to DYE it purple and created a huge mess. Even stained my finger tips and nails. It dried well, the fabric is fine and it doesn't look faded. Just a warning to be prepared for a mess. I don't think I will hand wash my striped orange version, in case the orange bleeds onto the ivory. If anyone has hand washed the stripe version with dye bleeding issues, please share!
ReplyDeleteJust posted my last set of reviews from the new arrivals on Thursday here, which includes the Jules Dress in Silk Stripe Twill and some of the new colors in the Silk Blythe.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just had an SA order the Silk Blythe in Shallow Sea (swoon) finally, as it never arrived in our stores! And I scored the Stellina Sequined Shell from 2010 on Ebay, which I'm looooving so far. I'll put up reviews of both of them shortly.
Has anyone tried hand-washing the tippi in heart me sweater? I know they say to dry clean it but frankly I don't want to waste my money and I've heard that the only tippi sweaters used to say hand wash. If so, were the results satisfactory?
ReplyDeleteI posted more reviews here on my blog today. :)
ReplyDeleteJust a few random J Crew musings. Went to one of my local stores and new sale stuff. If you want that Silk Dervish tunic go NOW! It's 139.00 I believe as opposed to the staggering 225.00 it USED to be. Also, I learned that if there is something you realllly want, you can call the mother ship in New York ( yes, I tried this ) and they are super friendly and very willing to help find an item. Has anyone purchased the cafe capri in photo floral ( 595.00!!!!!!! ). I cannot pay that price and need to live vicariously thru pictures, lol. Maybe they will be 1/2 price and 50 % off in my size! ;-/
