Sneak Peek: Madewell's Fall 2011 Collection

"Thanks!" to NYC Recessionista who shared in her "Sneak peek of Madewell's fall goods" post, that Madewell's Fall 2011 Collection is available to preview over at Racked (click HERE for article & images).
There are some cute things like the rugby striped knit dress. This is more like it Madewell! I will pretend that yesterday's emails ("Madewell Email: Not just jeans (+ free shipping)") never existed. ;)

P.S. What is up with the two mannequins with bandannas over their face like they are criminals?!? Awkward.

Mini Update: "Thanks!" to teeny84 (in this post) who let us know that the two mannequins are actually performance artists the Bumbys (facebook & tumblr).

What are your thoughts on Madewell's upcoming Fall Collection? Do you like how they styled the pieces at their presentation?

  1. I don't see anything that I'm excited about...and I feel like some of these pieces are currently in stores! At least this means most of my money can go back to J. Crew since I *love* the preview of their Fall collection!

  2. Mannequins? I thought they were actual people? Whatever....a few interesting things, a few "Little House on the Prairie" things, and some pretty drab looking things...we'll see. I think the check shirt thing is going a bit too far. It's the new 'chiffon' ... enough already.
    Just my opinion.

  3. Tippy: Couldn't agree more, J.Crew's Fall Collection is much better. Saving my $ for their pieces. :)

Suzy: They could be real people- I can't really tell either way. But it's not hard to tell that its a creepy setup. ;)

  4. The colors are so bland compared to what we saw for J.Crew, I'm not hopeful.

Suzy, ITA on the check shirt. One and done for me already.

  6. I think the bandanas are on real people. But why did they include that picture? Random!?!

I like a lot of the pieces. Looks like some cute dresses that can be dressed up for work or down for weekend. I look forward to checking it out in Fall!

  7. Really drab photos, I'll probably like the pieces a lot better in close up or IRL. It's actually the kinda thing I'd wear on weekends. Can't believe I'm saying this already, since Spring has just sprung in my neck of the woods, but I'll be looking forward to shopping for Fall.

  8. I saw alot of potential here. I'm picking up on the "American Vintage West" vibe here, meets a bit of the 70s styling with trouser legs, tunics and longer skirts. I am really, really smitten. Also, I LOVE the use of mannequins, as I find their online models to look not so feminine, which kind of alienated me from the clothes. But with a dress form, I see a lot of feminine potential.

  9. Oh wow, I'm seeing all sorts of great stuff there! Looks like Madewell's Fall 2011 palette is J Crew's Fall 2010 palette, but that's fine with me. I think I spot a straight heel and platform on an ankle boot, I hope they offer some shoes with that heel/platform too, I have so far avoided Madewell's shoes because they have that western-style tapered heel.

  10. Hi ladies, those are not mannequins, they're the performance artists slash fashion critics called "The Bumbys".

  11. Still just not digging the Mdewell vibe overall. I'm too old and stodgy for it. :P

My verification word is pansi! Indeed, lol.

  12. @ Alexis: They sit there with their faces covered and you ask them questions and stuff and they type the answers on their typewriters and never speak. They're apparently really popular and funny.

  13. teeny84: Your right! Thanks for sharing. I just looked up the Bumbys' facebook and tumblr page. They "provide “Fair and Honest Appraisals of Your Appearance” with nothing more than their typewriters and charming wit". Sounds interesting! :)

  15. I am liking the jewelry, especially the necklaces. Most of the other shirts and sweatshirt-sweaters resembles much of what's currently in stores. I was way more excited at J.Crew's Fall preview.

  16. I like a few of the pieces. That's how I usually feel about Madewell. Looked up The Bumbys. That's funny!

  17. Kinda meh, but the photos were taken too far to see much detail. The only thing that caught my attention was the cream-colored pleated(?) skirt in the second- to-last photo, though I wish it were available now; perfect for summer.

  18. @Tamara: thanks for sharing. Ahh. Can see much better now... love the shoes! Is it just me or is Madewell the boyish cousin of Anthro?

  19. Oooh, there's a long cardigan-type jacket with leather trim in picture 9, I like that a lot. Also, it looks like the J Crew panne velvet skirt in the weathered wood color is in picture 11, is that going to be a Madewell item now? I'm hoping I like their shoes, I see straighter heels though a bit chunkier and more casual than I'd prefer, but that's Madewell. In general, I love the entire collection. Lots of diverse pieces.
