Madewell Email: Get our new Sightseer Skirt first (+ free shipping)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including IRL & Ketan, who shared the following email from Madewell.

The email announces a new arrival that is hidden, only available for purchase by becoming a fan of Madewell's FaceBook page (click here). The item is the Sightseer Skirt (Item 43131; $125.00), which is described as "chambray that's so light and breezily cool, it could easily be mistaken for a cherished vintage find".

I find this to be a neat way to get customers to check out Madewell's FB page. Especially since they will continue to release items to their FB fans early each month.

What are your thoughts on Madewell's integration of FB? Are you a FB fan? What are your thoughts on the Sightseer Skirt? :)

  1. The skirt is similar to the ones worn by my 2nd grade teacher in the early 90s. Not a look I want to copy!!!

  2. JCrewJD: LOL! I didn't want to say anything, but my initial thought was that the skirt look dated. What do I know? Maybe its the way Madewell styled it. It could be really lovely in person. :)

  3. WAAAAAY dated! It reminds me of something my grandmother bought for me in the 80's. I wore the heck out of that thing! Not a look I'd want to repeat...

  4. LOL, glad I am not the only one thinking that! I love longer skirt lengths but this one just does NOT work. It would look horrible on me, anyway.

  5. Gag - no dirndl's for me! I also had that exact same chambray skirt decades ago!

  6. I have to agree. This one's looking like a miss.

  7. It is described as nearly "mistaken for a vintage find." No, no, no. It IS a vintage find. I can't imagine how awful the trifeca of gathered waist, button-up front, and mid-calf length would look on me ...

  8. while I'm loving that style of skirt right now, I wish they would have done a fun print instead.

Oh, and nothing to do with Madewell, but is J.Crew getting an update this week online? I received an email from my local store that they were getting new summer stuff in tomorrow.

  9. OOOH, new summer stuff! YES!
That denim '90s skirt also reminds me of its '80s cousin-the wrap around skirt. Waiting for that hit again too.

  10. On topic- I really, really don't like having to "LIKE" something on Facebook, or even use Facebook for retail for that matter. I like my news feeds to be about my friends and people who are close to my heart, not merchandisers trying to get close to my wallet. I read FB in the AM and that would just depress me to read more marketing from another chain store.

  11. This skirt is almost identical to a Laura Ashley skirt I wore in high school - I don't think I want to revisit that look!

  12. I had that skirt in that color back in junior high, but mine had little white flowers (I think it was Laura Ashely too). Not going back there.

JC's Dorrie is too short, Madewell's Sightseer is too long, maybe the next iteration will be just right. Make one about 22 inches (top of the knee length for me and I might try it.

  13. Ladies my apologies for OT: Russel Martin, Gold Glove catcher for the New York Yankees is wearing NEON PINK nail polish IRL, now!! It is not uncommon for catchers to put white-out on their nails to increase visibility of hand signals, but this is the first example of neon pink being used for this purpose that I am aware of. Solidarity with Jenna's son, a fellow New Yorker?

  14. I wouldn't wear that skirt if someone paid me (but I might if they bribed me with a J Crew giftcard, lol).

  15. I only dislike the buttons down the front, and I would prefer the chambray color to be a little more grayed (I'm not a big fan of light blue), but other than that I like it. I don't like the top they put with it.

  17. That Land's End product shot looks straight from a 1980s Singer sewing pattern. Wow, dowdy!

  18. Heheh, the description of the Land's End skirt says "Full button front makes it easy to get on and off". The perfectly pressed white shirt adds a rather odd flair. :)
