J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  6. Off topic but I thought some of you would be interested... I saw the new catalogue today! It was a quick glimpse but I saw the yellow skirt from the mothers day email- it is linen and comes in a few colors. There was a lovely strapless dress in the beautiful turquoise paisley print like the romper. Also, another lace tank top and a spaghetti strap lace dress that I really loved. There was obviously much more but those were the things that I really took notice of.

  7. It used to be 4 times a year of FINAL SALE, now we're celebrating the 4 times in year that it's a regular returnable sale. Times, oh how they've changed! >:P

  8. OT, but can anyone tell me more about the fit of the Fleurette Pencil Skirt? I wear a size 0/00 and I know this skirt runs a bit small but I wanted to know which size I should go with. Thank you!

  9. Final sale is gone with a bang! I'm so glad I didn't jump on the 30% off. The Liberty springlily Astin dress went from $149.99 to $89.99 today...and the only two colors of the Coddington platform pumps went on sale today. AMAZING :) The best thing...if none of my items work...I can take them back!

  11. OT, sorry, does anyone have any idea when the Collection section of the website will be updated?

  12. Off topic, but I snagged the Roulette clutch from the sale section this morning!! Got up at 7 a.m., all bleary eyed, and there it was - nearly had a heart attack while rushing to place the order. I just hope I don't get the dreaded "not in stock" email.

I posted an OOTD pic showing the washed leather moto jacket and the cerise lace panel cami on my blog - see here. The leather jacket is fantastic, runs a little small so I sized up to a size 8 (I normally take a size 6 in dress tops). It does pop back on occasion. The lace panel cami runs true to size.

  13. Hi WFF - my guess is that it will be updated the next time the site is updated with new arrivals and catalog... probably next Thursday (4/28).

Glad to see Spring Sale is back - enjoy it while it lasts, ladies!

  14. Momoberry, I wear a 0P in the double serge skirts and the 0 in the fleurette fits fine on me.

  15. ina, it is navy and it runs a bit big. I ordered a XS and it was a little bit shapeless in the body so I took it back. I had tried the xxs in store and it was nicely fitted but I couldn't layer anything long-sleeved under it so it depends what you want to wear under it (if only camis ir shirt-sleeved tees size down).

  16. Reviews from my delivery yesterday:

SILK SOPHIE BLOUSE - gorgeous silk, lovely drape, the Weathered Wood color works well w my brown hair, not as fitted a Perfect Shirts, I normally wear a 4 in those and a 2 in most camis, the 2 fits me perfectly.

CAFE TROUSER - old news probably but I love these as much as I love my Cafe Capris. I cant really wear capris to work so I was glad to have to long length in my favorite cut. Fits same as Capris.

ISOLA DRESS - love! Gorgeous crinkled silk fabric, would work so well for travelling, fits TTS but the cut is a little low in front, I need a really low-cut black bra/cami under to avoid flashing the girls everywhere.

I really want one of the new Liberty shirts but I just can't deal w a hundred bucks for a cotton shirt. I'll wait.

    HTH someone!

  17. Another oldie-but-goodie ... my icon trench arrived in the mail yesterday and it is simply magnificent. I'm so glad I didn't size down to a 6 (I've been between sizes for months now) ... it fits me perfectly! Not much of a chance that I'll be layering anything bulky under it, so I feel good about the fit. I feel vfery chic when I put it on. :)

Has anyone tried to treat the fabric in any way? To make it more water- and/or stain-resistant?

Also, soooo many pieces of swimwear on sale now, and they're all so pretty! Sigh ... But I need another like I need a hole in my head, so I'll wait it out for the next % off promo. :P

  18. Elaine, I'm glad to hear about your icon trench! What color did you end up going with?

I haven't treated mine with anything extra and haven't felt the need to - it's turned out to be plenty water-resistant enough for me.

  19. Louise, I've been eyeing that jacket for months. It looks to be quite cropped though, and you look to be very petite. Can you comment on the fit? I am quite long-waisted and I fear if I got that jacket, it would hit me too high. :/

  20. Hi all. I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one, but I finally got the factory version of the bazaar tunic dress after a few JCAs alerted me to its existence after I had been pining away for the original. As of last week, it was 40% off in factory stores. I did a charge send from the Birch Run store in Michigan and it arrived yesterday and I LOVE it. As far as I can tell, it is the exact same fabric and cut as the original and it's still lined. The only difference is the trim. I'm 5'4" and I probably could have done a size 4, but I got a 6 so that it could be a bit longer (it's still a couple of inches above the knee).

  21. LaurenPhD:

Thanks for the tip on the bazaar tunic. Can I ask how much it was from the outlet? I've been pining away for the original too!

    TIA!

  22. Hi Elaine, the jacket is definitely cropped but not as short as it could be. The size 8 jacket is approx. 21 inches (measured along the centre back). I'm 5'4" but also have a longer waist, so the bottom edge hits me just above the small of my back. Hope that helps!

  23. @kimchi Girl: your blog is adorable! I love those mock catalogue pics!

  24. @silver_lining, I went with the Pumice Stone color -- I was afraid if I got the light khaki it would make me look too sallow. I had to decide between the short Icon in light khaki and the long one in Pumice, so it was like Sophie's Choice!

Of course now I'm paranoid I'll get something on it, lol. Also glad the long icon isn't SUPER long. It's perfect. :D

@Lauren, thank you for the info on the Factory bazaar dress -- I wanted it so badly but just can't stomach the high price on eBay! But now the factory version is sold out too, boo hoo. :( I'm pleasantly surprised that they've used the same fabric blend. I thought for sure it would be cotton sateen @ Factory.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Elaine: You could do a charge-send for the Factory Bazaar Tunic dress if you want it bad enough! There were a couple left at my local Crewlet not too long ago, so I'm sure you could find one in your size somewhere. It's super cute.

  26. Elaine,
I have the Icon Trench and Travel Trench. I used a spray on water repellent that I bought at a sporting goods store on the Travel Trench in navy cotton and it got streaks and a filmy look to the finish. I would never treat the Icon Trench with any product. It does repel water under mild rain conditions. I've had it for several years and am happy with the fabric and quality.

  27. For anyone considering it, I received and love the cotton dobby scarf. Very cute for spring/summer over tanks. Also received the eyelet cami, but it is going back. The cut just isn't flattering on me, too much poof at the waist.

  28. For anyone considering the Riveter Pant which I saw this morning was marked down to $19.99 online, I bought them this last Saturday at the Michigan Ave B&M and really love how they fit. I had seen them in the catalog and wasn't wowed, but took them in to try on because with the extra 30% they were only about $14 and I am so glad I did! They are slim and flattering even more so than the ever popular Trouper pant IMO. I took the same size as I did in the Trouper, but they are less fitted/tight in the calf area and the details like the zip back pockets and seaming are really nice. Because the lower leg isn't so tight you can roll them for spring/summer and then have them down to wear with boots in the winter. A very nice pant for a great price! One odd thing is that on the receipt they are listed as the "Paloma Pant", but the item number confirms they are the Riveter so I'm not sure where that name came from. They also have a sort of riding pant seam on the back that does not appear on the back view online.

  29. Lizzy T, the tunic is $58 in stores and with tax and shipping it came to $70.

Elaine, try the Birch Run store in Michigan. They had plenty when I called this last Thursday. I was also told that the Loveland, Colorado store had a bunch, as well as a few stores in New York. And the person on EBay selling these for $150 makes me furious since the original price was only $98.

  30. I am wearing the black Martine booties today (yes, it is still booties weather around here), and LOVE how comfortable they are!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, I received the cotton taffeta Brooke skirt today and the fit is great (TTS), however, it is NOT lined in silk charmeuse as the website describes. It is lined with acetate, which is a level above poly I admit, and is comfortable. But wth? It is final sale too so no return.
Oh but there will be a complaining phone call tomorrow morning, and my first ever so that's how you know I've been pushed! (I am Ms. Nice Guy to my detriment.)
Also received the Lady Lace Popover and I love it, it's just darling.

  32. Beyondtheblue, thank you for the review of the Riveter Pant. I had previously ruled them out for my (unfortunately)chunky calves, based on the catalog pic. Helpful to know they might work for me!

  33. Has anyone bought the amie maxi dress? How is the fit and look?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lauren PhD -
Thanks so much. I'm going to call them. One quick question - was it tts or did you have to size up? I'm quite hippy so I'm just wondering. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  35. cheeseroyal-

I have the amie maxi dress. The fit is different from the short amie dress, which was too clingy on me. The maxie dress was looser and flowed more. I sized down in the maxie dress (normally a size 4 in bottoms, but I took an xs in this). I think it has a nice drape, and a substantial elastic at the top so I'm not worried about it falling down. It is right to the bottom of my ankle bone (I'm 5'4) and I'm going to have it hemmed a little.

  36. DaniBP, that is SO lame. I will be complaining too. I ordered that skirt in three different colors just today!!!

  37. Just got the Everly Cardigan, which was an item I was super excited about...but it's terrible! It sits funny, the buttons are crooked and the fabric is very flimsy. Unflattering neckline and the wrap cuts me in a very bad spot. I would say it either made me look a little pregnant, or a like I ate too much. It's going back for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lizzy T, is it TTS. I actually probably could have sized down, but I like the extra length of my regular size and the fact that it camouflages my tummy issues.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kris - thx for the response note amie maxi dress, esp the sizing! It's always hard to know how it's going to fit when they don't tell you what the model is wearing. Much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just got my recent extra 30% off order and the factory version of the couplet dress (pink w/ the pink tweed skirt) is really cute! Very happy with it, though I haven't tried it on yet so we'll see about sizing.

  41. P.S. for anyone who has the Icon trench, could you comment on the lining and warmth? I'm looking for a year-round, water resistant trench and was going to resort to Burberry ($700 though, ugh). If the Icon can potentially be worn year round, this might be the perfect solution for me! Thanks in advance :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. ruffles-crew, I was pleasantly surprised how nicely they fit and I hope they work for you as well! The good news is now that Final Sale is gone you won't be stuck with them if they don't. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I got the new cafe capri today in dark seaweed. They had them at the factory store in that color only. I didn't realize what they were when I bought them but came home and looked them up. I love them! I think the fabric is better than it has been in the past. The pockets don't bother me at all.

  44. The aged driftwood Emellines arrived tonight. They're beautiful and fit just like the other platform/straight heel shoes. But I have to send them back because the top ankle strap is way too short and I can't see how anything can be done about it. What's odd is that the other ankle strap is plenty long. I compared both shoes and they have the same lengths of straps. I'm very sad about sending them back but can't wear them like this. :(

I also received the sweet orchid and olive 3/4 sleeve stretch Perfect shirts. I have a 40" chest and ordered the XL. The size fits perfectly except the neck, for some reason they made a 20" neck on these shirts! They would be big enough for my muscular husband! My neck is only 14" at the very bottom, so why they made a 20" neck for these shirts I have no idea. So even though I like everything else about the shirts, they're going back too.

Fortunately the mossy oak Collins saved the day. They're awesome. The color appears quite neutral on the foot. I'll be able to wear these in the spring with bare legs (and maybe even summer too), and in the fall with tights. Because the Emellines didn't work out I'm now considering picking up the aged driftwood Collins, the color is very pretty, a nice neutral pale beige.

  45. Elaine and Tippy:

I treated my Icon trench with Scotchguard, which was fine on the fabric itself, but COVER THE BUCKLES because it made the dye on them run.

The lining is just the same thin poly lining you would find in a blazer. It's warm in that it's a good windbreaker but not very insulated.

However, I have been wearing it nonstop this spring. It's been odd, back and forth weather in SoCal.

  46. Review of the black Jenny dress here!

  47. Cotton voile marina skirt (43272) - Let's just say that the sticker on the bag has this named the "80's Riley skirt". It does not look as straight as it does online, but rather flares directly out from the hips, creating an almost triangle shape. Terribly unflattering on me. The length was decent, but the combination of allover pleats + too many layers made this a return for me. Way overpriced at almost $80 - I'm sure that Target or ON will do something similar for $20 or so.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ha, now that I think of it - the skirt looked just like my avatar!

Marled cotton short (36192) - These were cute and comfy, but the side seams near the pockets looked kind of undone. I couldn't tell if this was a deliberate design thing or production flaw. Not worth $40 IMO.
