Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER & FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I'm going to the store in Walden Galleria. I have to decide what cardigan to return - the infinity in wild plum (i think) or the jackie in dark rosewood. So different on the Internet! So close in real life. And to hopefully scoop up some new fall goodies.

  2. ugh im so angry at myself for not picking up the jackie cardigan in light pool...if anyone got it on final sale and wants it to go to a good home, let me know please :)

on a sidenote, stopped by B&M at Woodfield Mall during lunch today, sale section is dismal at best

  3. I'll be visiting for returns, but that's it. Not wowed by the recycled designs I see online. I'll be curious to see what I think in-person.

  4. I was in the store tonight and I was impressed by the styling. The rose colors are very pretty with the gray double serge skirt and a metallic pencil skirt. The new Donegal tweed jacket is great and it looks like it is a lot more fitted than other jackets have been but I did not try it on - just judging from the display.

  5. I won't be going, but was told by an SA on Wednesday that they would be packing up all their sale merch on Saturday and shipping it back - so I bet there will be a surge of FS stuff online in the next few weeks (although, it'll probably be a bunch of ratty tees).

  6. I was just in Wednesday evening to make a couple of returns so I won't be going back this weekend.

  7. if you live in Bergen county check out garden state plaza store, not for the sale stuff, nothing left.

the store looks really pretty, loving the fall color palette for a change, some nice tee shirts, i bought the camo pants with the ribbon waistband

  8. I'll be visiting the North Ave store in Chicago for returns. They also told me that they will be shipping all their sale stuff out at the end of the month.

  9. I'd definitely be wary if you're going to take advantage of popbacks in the next few weeks - the sale stuff from my B&M was very shopworn. The raw edges on so many things just can't stand up to being repeatedly handled. I saw a Blakely blouse at the store - did you know that the ruffle trim at the shoulders is unfinished? The entire ruffle was fraying on both shoulders. Bad.

However, they have had a vintage leopard crescent-collar cami (20370) in the sale section for months. I can't recall but think it's a size 4, and $119 before 30% off ($175 original). Email me if you're interested and I'll give you the phone number.

OT, both Lands End Canvas and Boden have their fall new arrivals online and there are some great looking pieces. Canvas has a lot of the same things as JC but cheaper - long sweaters, wingtips, moto jackets. Very cute.

Boden has color! They have cute coats and sweater-jackets and get this: their "mini" skirts are 19". Wahoo! Plus they've got the great JC models of yore: Vanessa, Edda, and Angela.

    Have a great weekend, all!

  10. Will anyone be buying any new arrivals? I'm thinking about the infinity sweater, betina top, khloe top and the new green scarf.

  11. I'm not goint this weekend. I'll wait until our tax-free weekend next week. :)

Amanda, how is the wild plum infinity different than online? I have the paradise blue and love it, but I love the wild plum, too, and hoped to pick it up at some point. TIA

  12. I'm going to the Somerset Collection and I always check out the JC there, it's a good bit bigger than my local store, and they have some shoes! I would like to check out the soles of the new flats, since the old soles really weren't very comfy. Thanks for the heads up about sale merch being sent back this weekend, silver_lining. I'm probably going to SC today so I can take one last crack at scoring a cheapie!

  13. silver lining,

I was thinking the same thing. Glad others posted about stores sending their stuff back b/c I will definitely be careful if I see any popbacks. Basically, I have sworn them off b/c I receive either defective items or sometimes the wrong item inside the bag.

I won't be going to a store this weekend as I did not see anything in the new roll out that is a must have or could not wait until a sale....

Hopefully, as fall continues into winter there will be some pieces I really like.

Boden has 10% off and free shipping and returns right now on their fall line. At least I got an email saying as much. I love all the color they have for fall.

  14. math teacher,

Yes, tax free weekend is next week in NC. I doubt I will NOT be able to shop though!!! 2 birthday parties next weekend and one of them is a pool party at my house so will be busy!

Hope you find some nice things as tax free is always nice.

  15. My entire Boden preorder went back. I purchased a couple of cashmere tops, one of the silk dresses and the upbeat mini.

The skirt and dress were more clingy than past ones in the same size and the skirt was thicker and more scratchy than I expected. The cashmere sweaters were too boxy. I love their great customer service, but find their fits and colors often just do not suit me.

  16. silver_lining, thanks for the heads up on LE Canvas. I ordered the Women's Motocross Jacket in Gray Sky. Some colors and size are already sold out! Used coupon code AUG2 and PIN 1759 for $5 off and free shipping to Canada. Will report back with a mini review.

  17. Lizzy T, I tried on the bettina cami yesterday in the store and it was adorable. I tried on the rust color, which was very pretty. I'll definitely get it when it goes on sale.

I also liked the pilar paisley print, which is in the perfect shirt and a silk cami. Very pretty colors.

Oh, tip for Columbus, Ohio JCAs: Yesterday at Easton I overheard a SA on the phone with the Polaris B&M saying that Easton is giving 30% off final sale, but Polaris is 40% off. Apparently a customer called them on it, but I don't know if they rectified it.

  18. xoxo - what color did you get in the motorcross jacket (LEC)?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thanks, Lauren PhD!

Has anyone received rewards cards yet?
Anything you would have to have from J Crew for Fall?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Genny: thanks for the tip on tax-free weekend. I must be out of the loop up here in the mountains. I hadn't yet heard when it would be!

I'm still on the fence about heading to a store this weekend...I may head to Asheville to check it all out. I have another Softspun Sunset dress heading my way in a different size, so I'm excited to see how that works out.

LizzyT: I would highly recommend the Bettina cami. I have several IRL pics on my blog if you want to see. It's one of my favorites of this recent roll-out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. By the way, everything at Banana Republic (including sale items) is 30% off - and not final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I checked out the Men's store in Garden State Plaza (NJ) last night. This store routinely gets menswear 4-6 weeks before other stores, so its a nice treat to see what's coming.

I was impressed with the offerings but not impressed enough to lay down the card. I'm still paying off my Alden shoes, so I'm kinda not wanting to add more to my balance right now, if ya dig.

What I liked: A few plaid shirts were interesting, but nothing I'd pay full price for. Denim was blah, especially when I saw the Made in China tags. Some nice cords that I'll consider in Sept. Suits looked sharp, but again, at close to $600 for these suits made in China, you can definitely do better.

A few solid V-necks. A lot of Jaspe tees, henleys, and pullovers. I like the Jaspe look but how soon till its played out?

Waiting for some outerwear to hit in Sep.

    Shoe selection was large

  23. I will be heading to Easton to look at the Rimini in the cobblestone color. One of the JCAs posted recently about seeing the Rimini cardi in cobblestone paired with a light pink tank and that combination sounded heavenly to me.

Also, I received the Silk Taffeta Riveter coat yesterday in burnished yellow. The color is beautiful...not garish, and the fit is TTS. I usually take a 0 or 2 in J Crew outerwear and the 2 in this fits perfectly. I see this as a nice pop of color on dreary days and the material is, as stated, sumptuous.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have some returns to make at the outlet. I will report back if I actually go tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I received my rewards card yesterday, but think I am going to hold off until the next roll-out.

Be on the lookout ladies! :)

  26. AppGal,

I finally made it to the Asheville store at the end of June while coming back from vacation. It is nice. I found a nice navy sale sweater that I was very happy to find. Great store but was a bit hard to find and get to IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Genny: So glad you got to go! It is a nice store...kinda small, but it works, and the staff is always very nice. I can understand how it'd be hard to get to if you weren't familiar with the area. Now that I go more regularly, it's like I'm on autopilot :)

  29. Lizzy T, I bought the Gray Sky color. I'm quite fair with strawberry blonde hair so brown and green don't work well for me. I was planning to purchase J.Crew's rip-stop field jacket but neither color is a great choice for my coloring. Gray will work so much better with my mostly cool-toned wardrobe too.

I usually take size 8/10 in J.Crew tops and jackets. I ordered the LE jacket in size M, which has worked for me in the past. I'm in Canada so it may take a while for it to arrive but I'll definitely give my comments when it gets here.

  30. Amanda... they have tons of fall stuff there. But, the sale section is basically nonexistent. I hope you find some good stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm going up to Seattle this weekend so I'm going to try to visit the Pacific Place store. I was disappointed in my Bellevue visit a couple of days ago and I hope that PP has more fall stuff.

Oh, and here's a story about the Madewell in U Village, including some quotes from Drexler:
    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/retailreport/2012485502_retailreport30.html

Interesting that Madewell is moving into the old Talbots spot just as the revamped Talbots seems poised to swipe a lot of JC customers. (Of course if you go to the Talbots FB page everyone is complaining about how trendy, young, and disposable the new stuff is--sound familiar?)

    ReplyDelete
  32. jcrewjunkie, ABiggerCloset posted about the cobblestone Rimini cardigan.

Hexicon, I was in the PP store last weekend to try on the Rimini and the long alpaca sweater... both very nice.

To me, it appeared it had less merch than the Bellevue Square mall, as it is a smaller store. My next trip will be back to the Bellevue store.

  33. Just received my first ever Boden catalog yesterday... probably would've tossed it but I took a look through since a lot of JCAs seem to shop there as well. However, I noticed that the smallest size they carry is 2... I'm a 0/0P in JC and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how Boden compares in terms of sizing?

Also got an email today about the Madewell sale and for the first time I actually want to order some stuff! Finding it really annoying, however, that they don't accept the JC credit card considering they're essentially the same company (and I want my rewards!). Also put off by lack of free shipping. May head to the NYC store after work and check out the selection...

No JC for me this weekend. I was in on Wednesday for a return and wasn't lured in by any of the new fall merch, which is another first for me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dara, Unfortunately you may be sized out of Boden, unless they've changed their sizing since the last time I ordered. I am consistently a 4 in J.Crew, and the 4 in Boden was way too large for me. If I have to wear a 2, it'd probably be too big on you :( Their fall catalog IS very cute. I love how cheerful and realistic it is, unlike j.crew's.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow, what cute stuff in the Boden catalog! And what charming photos!

I haven't ordered much from them in the past as a lot of their stuff wasis a little too "kindergarten teacher" for me--no offense meant educators, LOL, just a little too whimsical for my lifestyle and workplace. This year's offerings have that air of casual sophistication that I associate with Paris-era JC. I too would be very interested to hear how the sizing works now that they're using US sizes.

  36. I'm going on my lunch hour today. I need to return my SECOND pair of Ares Platform sandals. I originally goat a 9.5 which were huge, exchanged for a 9 and they are still a bit big. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't tell if they're too big or just not designed properly. I never wear an 8.5 but am going to exchange the 9 for an 8.5 and see if they work.

While I am there, I want to try on and perhaps purchase a pair or two of the matchstick cords, check out the sidezip sweatshirt and a few other things....

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rose: Thanks for reminding me where I saw the info about the cobblestone Rimini paired with the light pink tank. :)

Got a few more items today from the sale:

Brushed Stripe Tank-natural-got a size small and the fit is a tiny bit too loose. I will probably just shrink this as it is not so loose that it looks baggy.

Neon Cotton Bling-Button Cardi-neon peach-this cardi looks awesome with the above mentioned tank. I may have mentioned this before, but I am totally in love with the bling-button cardigans. I have the light petal, black, neon melon leopard print, and now the neon peach (and I plan on getting a few more as well!) Size UP as these run small, but they feel and look fabulous!

Eyelet Bow Blouse-dark pewter. I got this to wear with my pewter print cinema shorts, but it looks odd around one of the armholes. Does anyone have this top? What are your thoughts? I got this in a size 2.

Coralie Cami-very feminine and floaty. I got the white sand color to wear with my neon madras shorts...lovin' that neon this summer.

Suckered Gingham Shirt-abyss blue. Got the 2P and it fits well. Love this shirt so much that I am getting another! The material on this shirt is thin, but still substantial. I am going to layer mine under the Canterbury Bells cardi which I also have in abyss blue. I loved these together and can't wait for cooler weather to wear them.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I find Boden to fit very differently from J Crew. In JC, I am a 2-4 in tops and a 4-6 in bottoms. I sometimes actually find Boden's 4s to be too snug in tops and dresses, especially across the shoulders and bust. Pretty funny, considering I wear a 30B bra and have a very small torso. I haven't found a straight skirt from them that fits me yet. They all seem to be too big in the waist and tight in the hip.

I do better with their sweaters and jackets where I am consistently a 4.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'll be stopping by tomorrow afternoon to make a few returns:

    1) Bettina cami - I wasn't wowed by this. Ordered in petite, still a bit boxy on me. I wish these camis had more waist defining shape to them.

    2) Peekaboo sequin cardigan - was a bit tight across the chest, re-ordered 1 size up.

    3) Super 120s Caryn dress - I ordered this in petite, but the scoop neckline was still way too low.... indecent low! Too bad, because the fit elsewhere was great, and I loved the dusty cedar color!

On the plus side, absolutely loved the Pilar paisley cami, Herringbone plaid boy shirt, and the Coddington suede platform pumps in dusk red. These shoes are TDF, the color is the most perfect blue-red.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, Marietta, I'm so sad to hear that my concerns about the Caryn dress are confirmed! I'd hoped that maybe the neck was wide but shallow, because the dress is otherwise so pretty and I loved the A-line skirt. Lots of lines offer sleeveless sheath dresses, but it's hard to find a suiting dress with sleeves . . . and then they have to cut the neckline so low. JC calls these "wear to work" dresses but I guess they don't know where we work.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Patsystone - I had the same problem with the Ares. I ordered the Wild Mushroom in an 8 but the heel kept slipping off. I thought it was the size so I returned and got the 7.5, same problem - wouldn't stay on my foot. And it hurt a little on my outstep (opposite of instep?), so I gave up on them. They were a little too costly not to be a comfortable shoe. Good luck on yours.

Had sworn off for a while even for returns...but then I got my first catalog. Didn't really pay it much attention as I had just picked one up in the store. Happened to browse through last night and was surprised to find a coupon inside. Needless to say I may have to break down and get something. The coupon's only good for in-store though...I would really have a field day if I could use it online (shoes, bags - oh my!)Being as it is, I'd like to see if the Coquette sweater shows up in the store. And I think I might pick up a pair of the studded flats with the hidden heel, the matchstick cords and that sequined tee.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I wore the silk pockets cardigan to work this week. By the end of the day, my office chair had fuzz all over it. This thing is shedding and balling everywhere. WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lizzy T: got my rewards card in the mail today! Along with the new catalog.. no code, just the Madewell card again.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, exactly, Ms. Jackson! The back keeps slipping off my heel when I tried to walk across the room in them. The 9 fit a bit better on my left foot (which is freakishly slightly larger than my right). But on my right foot, it kept painfully hitting the underside of my ankle as I walked...and still kind of slipping off.

Ugh. I really love the look of this sandal and want it to work out. I am finding the sand dune is too close to the color of my skin and since it's taken my almost 3 weeks to deal with just getting the proper fit in these shoes, I think I am going to exchange for the dark brown which I think will transition into fall a bit better. Even though I know nude shoes are all the rage!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree about needing to try on different pairs of cords in same size to get a pair that fit you. Online ordering is a risk with these.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hexicon - I know, I really do wonder myself where JC thinks we actually work! Such a shame, if only the neckline were raised a bit, it would have made all the difference. On to the next rollout for me....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Crew Banana: I saw a stack of the light pool Jackies at the North Michigan Avenue store this afternoon. Sorry, I did not notice the sizes, but they had at least five of them. They also have the Breeze color but it looks like they are back to the $62 price; at least there were no markdown stickers on the tags and they were on the table with all of the regular priced Jackies. Might be worth a call.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Can anyone comment on the crystal patch necklace? It's got some vintage-inspired, intrigue but not sure if it's actually just a hot mess;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Drea dress lovers..correct me if I am wrong but didn't they just up the price $20 bucks. If I had only known.

    ReplyDelete
  50. sweetsy, I got the crystal patch during the last 20% promo and it looks terrific, especially on a simple tee or a black top (it is very sparkly). However the patches themselves are quite "overcrowded" with small pearls and stones and even a few (cheapy) plastic crystals. There are actually little silk bows on the chains that I hadn't noticed on the website but are easily removable (I think, as I haven't attempted yet).
The oveall effect is more edgy than vintagy in my opinion. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  51. Has anyone seen the Brompton hobo in the store? I think I'm loving it for a new fall bag, but not sure about the color choices. How orange-y is the henna color? I'm 90 minutes away from a store, so any comments from those who have seen it would be appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Is the 30% off still in effect in the stores (NYC, specifically)? If not I won't bother going tomorrow as I have two boxes coming next week with my 30% goodies.
BTW, I noticed at the end of the day yesterday that the twisted hammock necklace in the pearl color went on sale ($75). I just had the time to order it with the 30% off before the end of the promo.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Marietta, I am crushing on the dusk red color of the Coddington suede pumps. Too bad the shoes have synthetic lining and sole. I wonder if a leather sole matters as much with the platform and all. I would love it if J.Crew made a wool pencil skirt in that color. Gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just back from my lunch break trip over the store...Treid on:

Rimini Cardigan: Interesting but not enough so for me to purchase. A lot of JCAs have said to size down but a small on my seemed a bit tight in the arms

Matchstick Cords: only tried one color so can't confirm the wonky sizing between colors. But loved these and purchased.

Sidezip sweatshirt: I loved the fit of this and thought the side zipper was a cute idea but the heather gray has this metallic sheen which I didn't care for...so didn't opt for it. Then noticed on the way out, the dark gray doesn't have that. May have to head back to purchase the dark gray. I do think it looks cute over some of the perfect shirts for that dressy/undressy contrast.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Erin, I saw 2 Brompton hobos in henna colour in the Seattle store last weekend. I had my eye on it as well, however, after seeing it in the store I was not impressed. The leather looked cheaper than online, and the colour was less intense. I also didn't like the hardware on it either...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Unless I actually find myself near the mall, I won't be checking anything out this weekend. I spent way too much during final sale (but pretty much love everything I got!) and truly can't even think about fall for at least another 2 months -- it's still 95+ daily here!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I won't be going but lookin g orward to hearing about others' finds!

    ReplyDelete
  58. OMG. I got the Estella espadrilles in an 8. I'm usually a 7 1/2-8 in shoes. They are SMALL. And I don't mean tight, I mean visually. I hate that look of a heel being right at the edge of a shoe, even if it's not hanging over. Anyone else experience this? Wouldn't a 9 be GIGANTIC? Weird. Another reason final sale is dangerous, because an 8 should have been a slam dunk. Good thing my receipt didn't say it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just stopped by the Durham, NC store tonight. Had not planned on going but ended up right by it by chance. Popped in and had fun looking around but did not buy anything. Did not see anything that I had to have.

They still had 30% off sale items.

I got my $25 rewards card. Will hold onto it until the next roll out.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was just looking online and noticed there is a JC double serge pencil and a double serge stretch. Can anyone comment on the differences (besides the stretch). Any preferences?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  61. OT - recieved the falling ruffles tank today and I really like it. Sized down as always with JC tanks. It does need a little trim at the neck b/c of the ragged edges, but other than that I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. LizzyT--the difference is material. Stretch double-serge is cotton, while the double-serge is wool.

    ReplyDelete
  63. No more shopping for me this weekend. I went to the J Crew outlet yesterday and raided the sales section, which was an extra 40% off of the already reduced prices. Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Erin, For a different POV.
I saw the Brompton Hobo last week in NYC and really liked the bag. The leather is not as heavy as other bags (like the Campo), which to me, means lighter weight. Did not think the color was orangey at all. And it fit my 13 inch laptop.
I ended up ordering it online (to save taxes). Hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was told the summer clearance is being shipped out tomorrow or next Sat. I think many of us are over it, but just wanted to share. I expect we'll see an influx of inventory on in our beloved final sale (coughs).

    ReplyDelete
  66. They have updated the sale section online! I was looking at jewelry and there was about 11 pieces then suddenly it went up to 99!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks Lovely L! I scored some older popback jewelry that I love -- tortoiseshell resin bangle, botanical necklace and the Karma necklace. Yay! I also got the Blushed Tweed Pencil skirt, which I'm hoping goes with a lot of my recent purchases.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am heading out to return the metallic (pale gold) beacon handbag that I purchased. All I can say is thank goodness this was not final sale. The overall quality was not good and the top flaps rolled up...on a brighter note the brushed tweed collier Collection jacket I received is absolutely beautiful. The color is a bit brighter than expected, but it is a perfect punch to my clothing for Fall. I am also going to Easton to look at the poppin' cashmeres that have come in. The colors are stunning! I am thinking of the super bright fuschia pink. I am also hoping to see the super 120's Caryn dress in dusty cedar. If anyone has a review for this please let me know. Last, but not least, I am "wish listing" the Exhibitor tote. It is going to be a lovely weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I found many items in the sale section today that I had been waiting for to show back up in my size. Just as I was about to pull the trigger and order yet another box of sale items I remembered that I was going to Easton and wanted to be able to purchase more than a thong (lol...just kidding) so I held off. Yay me...I usually don't exercise that kind of restraint.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Chris--my exhibitor arrived and itis gorgeous. At least once you get all the paper stuffing out of it. It is large but I need to carry shawls year round and it could easily accommodate a lap top. The findings are the nicest I have seen on a JC bag. I have been looking for something like this and found JC's prices good by comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  71. @shopwithm: If you don't want to keep your tortoiseshell resin bangle I'd love to buy it from you. Mine broke last year when my daughter dropped it... (jcrewphd@gmail.com)

I wonder how JCrew does these updates from their inventory? Do they just dig up old items hidden somewhere besides some of recent returns?

  73. Thank you GemTwin! I travel quite a bit and do like to carry my laptop, shawl, magazines all in one bag so the exhibitor looks to be a great option. I love the style - so modern.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Can anyone comment on the linen-cotton henley on sizing?

    thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  75. jcrewphd - I'll definitely let you know! I need to see it in person, but it if doesn't work, I'll happily send it to you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I need to make a return before the end of the return period so I'll go this weekend or early next week. I plan to take a look at the new arrivals, but I doubt I'll buy anything at this point. I need to sort through my fall/winter clothes first and decide what needs to be replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Just to follow up on the jewelry popbacks, there are some classics like the fireball and cloud necklaces available.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Penny, I have a couple of the linen-cotton henleys and I absolutely love them, they're so soft! I found them to be true to size, so I'd say order whatever size you normally take in a JC tee. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ha, I ended up at the B&M anyway. SA said that there will be new markdowns on Tuesday night. A few notes:

    1. The bronzed ochre pencil skirt looks exactly like the 2008 one in terms of the fabric, so if you missed out on that one, I'd say this is a fine substitute.

    2. Tried on the femme camo pants out of curiousity - henious on me. The legs are very slim and cropped, and the side pockets are only on the left and not on the right - seemed off 'balance' to me.

    3. Tried the alpaca long cardigan and really liked it but couldn't justify the price since it will probably go to markdown before I can wear it. I found it to fit similarly to the library shawl cardigan - in the XS the body was fine but the arms were tight (and I was wearing a tank). Would probably go to an S if I wanted to wear anything long-sleeved under it. Also, is this going to shed all over the place?

Other than that, not too much caught my eye... except the neon pink leather skinny belt that was hanging all by itself! It was the only thing I bought.

  80. Just picked up the Petal Stream Tank (item #29733) in Navy earlier today. It fits well and will layer nicely in the fall.

I wanted to get a Rimini Cardigan (item #29000) as well, but I did not like the colors my B&M had (just Black and Cobblestone). Has anyone seen the Rimini in Nutmeg or Paradise Blue in person? Those are the colors that caught my eye.

Also, for anyone eyeing the Solid Ripstop Field Jacket (item #26994), I have it in Camp Green and I really like it. The only complaint I have about the jacket is having to mess around with the inner drawstrings to achieve a more fitted look.

  81. Joanie: I believe that someone posted in the past few days that the Rimini cardi in Paradise Blue is very beautiful, and judging from the pictures online does indeed look very eye catching.

  82. Has anyone bought the Glamour bikini top from J.Crew? I am trying to figure out the sizing. What would a 6 be comparable to? Or a 4?

    Thanks!

  85. Joanie, I haven't seen the Rimini yet, but I have the Infinity in paradise blue. It is a gorgeous shade of teal blue!

  86. Heidi, I agree with you. I purchased a few pieces this morning and then started thinking. Where has this jewelry been? HMMM Is it tarnished? So, I cancelled all of the jewelry pieces I ordered. I do hope they work out for whomever purchased them.

  87. Stopped by store (the bigger of the two in my area) after lunch. Don’t think I’ve ever been less inspired by j.crew’s early fall offerings. That glen plaid ruffle skirt is a joke - it looks it’s fitted for one of my single-digit aged nieces. And couldn’t they have gone the extra inch in labor/material and fully lined the thandie blazers?

Also, I’ve never liked it as a fashion statement, but at a time of two wars, with Afghanistan heartbreakingly producing one record-setting deadly month after the other, offering a camo pant (29362), frilled up with grosgrain ribbon and the cliched ruffles, really rubs me the wrong way.

  88. Rose-
Thanks for the code! The Emboridered Ikat Pencil skirt poped up in my size again today, and I've really been wanting that one, but couldn't justify it without free shipping. Now, hopefully it ships, and arrives without problems.I always worry about popbacks....

  93. I stopped by the 5th Avenue store (NYC) yesterday afternoon to try on the new arrivals. They had some gems in the sale section like two Bridget poplin dresses for 19.99 (one black in a size 4 and one in the amethyst color but I haven't checked the size). They also had a few poem jackets but I didn't check the price. They told me that they were shipping out all the sale stuff today but it could be worth it giving them a call in caae you are interested. I didn't buy any of the new arrivals but the new twill toothpicks are on my wishlist (they are TDF).

  94. La Belle Helen- I think about this ALL the time and can't get into the military thing. Tho I grew up in the 80s and rock the Casbah was going on, as well as Sheik your booty, with a fashion following too. I have been waiting for some cultural/political dissection of the trend in some way.

  95. I was told the new arrivals hit the B&M august 16th.

  96. Can someone comment on the quality and fit of the zip-side sweatshirt item# 29438 please?

What is so special about the Burnout baseball tee #29452 to warrant the high price tag? Has anyone tried it on in their B&M TIA

  97. Casual-crew: I have IRL pics of the zip-side sweatshirt here. I really like it and ended up buying it. I would say stick to your regular size in it. For reference, I have the original Jaspe sweatshirt in an xs, but the zip-side I got in a small. It is nice and thick and extremely comfortable. HTH!

And for those interested, I just put up a 2nd post on the new arrivals I tried on yesterday. Here is the link.

  99. La Belle Helene thank you for your observations. I sometimes wonder if the fashion industry is trying to make war more appealing to women with the military trend especially when its women civilians and children who are often most impacted negatively by war.

  100. casual-crew: I tend to wear an XS in tops, and I found the side-zip sweatshirt to be very fitted on the arms and across the chest. I would say size up if you plan on wearing something underneath :)

  101. Stopped by the B&M in Boca. They had gorgeous cashmere/dream sweaters in beautiful colors. Long sleeve tees/shirts. Tweed pants - Did I forget to mention that Boca is in South Florida where it is 100 degrees. We won't see a need for these clothes until mid-December, if we get a cold winter!

Seriously, the pieces were great to look at. I just have no need for them. Glad I bought the classics when I did.

  102. O.T. but I went to The Loft today and they had an amazing sale. I bought 5 dress for $4.88 each. Also a sweater a T-shirt and 2 belts for the same price. Everything for under $60.00. Was final sale but at those prices who cares.

  103. I didn't get to Pacific Place :-( Maybe next week.

La Belle Helene, WellfedFred, and others, ITA. I'm not going to judge others for wearing camouflage as a fashion statement, but I live near a huge base, and many of my friends/friends' spouses serve, so you won't catch me wearing it.

  104. Debra,

Great shopping and great prices! The difference is you get to try on and see for sure in store so then I don't mind final sale. I bought some items at Talbots that were final sale recently.

That is the big issue I have with final sale from online stores esp. JCrew. I wont' buy it b/c of the no returns/final sale--ever.

  105. Being in the military, I refuse to wear camo outside the uniform only because I think it looks cheesy. I'm glad we still remember that there's a war going on. My prayers are with all those overseas.

  107. milljcrew--what body/style were the tweed pants? I would love to get ahold of tweed pants for fall.

I saw the minnie's in glen plaid at the Malibu shop. I love plaid and tweed but not a big fan of the minnies. That said, they did fit quite differently than the other new wool solid minnies that I tried on. They run at least a size larger but the fabric is still quite thin. they were a limited release with more on the way. unfortunately my size was the one missing. bummer

  108. I have a camo tote from JCrew summer of 07. I still have not carried it. I don't think carrying a camo tote is a big deal but wearing camo clothes for fashion does bother me as there is a war going on....make me sad. I say a pray daily for those with loved ones overseas and the actual military that is there fighting.

  109. momoberry- I understand your preference; I'm a nurse and can't wear white tops or jackets at all outside the hospital-LOL! Anyway,it's interesting to hear people's preference for the "military" trend and their reasons for and against wearing it. I love the diversity of voices here! Cheers-kt

(I am also seeing a nostalgia for depression era morale in everything from the hobo chic, regiment boots, faded glory socialites of JCrew's new look book. Perhaps brought on by the recent stock market crash, ongoing wars, and fading "American dream?")
