J.Crew Email: Even more new arrivals, in stores and online

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, Desert Flower, & Irina, who let us know about J.Crew's most recent email.

The email reminds us that new Summer arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here) are not only available online, but in brick & mortar (B&M) stores too!

Moreover, as many of you have noticed, the Final Sale section had quite an update this morning (click here to shop Sale online).

Have you checked out the latest arrivals in-person at your local store? Were there any pieces you are super excited (or disappointed) about? :)

  1. The Merino Vest looks cute, but nothing else is very appealing to me.

OT: I really wish someone would brush the models hair. I am so tired of seeing them look as if they just rolled out of bed and don't care that the rest of the world has to look at them. As Coco Chanel said: *I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.*

  2. Agreed with FFM. I'm tired of the "homeless angsty teenager chic" look. I miss-miss-miss the prettier J Crew of yore. I thought new arrivals were up last night, but then I started actually looking and couldn't discern the new from the old- it's more of the tired same.

Is it weird that I miss the days when "new arrivals" would pop up and I'd have 10, 15 things to add to my wishlist? My wallet doesn't miss it, but holy moly- I do.

That being said, though, the Mara Suede Wedges caught my eye- that "rose dust" color is fun! That's the only thing that's jumped out at me, though; the rest is a pass. *sighs*

  3. The only new thing I added to my cart this morning was the rimini cardigan and I'm not even sure if it's new. I like the black pine color, but will need to try this on to see how it looks IRL. Like Chloe, I couldn't really find many new arrivals. The Mara Suede Wedges are cute, but if they're not comfy then I won't wear them.

  4. Were any of these "new arrivals" actually new? It all just looks soo familiar...

  5. I could not see the difference either it all look the same.

I was looking through the Fall lookbook on-line and I do not like the styling and alot of the clothes. The highwaisted baggy pants are not for me.

O/T I had my first cancellation order this week on a full price item, by the time they got around filling my order there were none in stock, when I ordered 4 days earlier there were 10, CS told me the on-line system is a couple of hours behind good grief!

  6. That pose just looks really unflattering, along with the bedhead. You can see the outline of her bra under the tank, so you know that tank is tissue-thin (maybe they're using "microspun" to mean "tissue" now that we're onto them!) and probably needs another tank underneath it to be decent.

I'm with Chloe - I did like the look of the Mara Suede Wedges, but Target (Merona) often does a great wedge so I expect them to knock this off by fall! :)

  7. silver_lining: When you see the words superfine and MicroModel you know it is super sheer!

J Crew's cashmere is now Made in Italy, before the wool was Italian but made in China, hmm I wonder if the quality is any better? I still will not buy it.

  9. Rather lackluster, but I did love the Rimini cardigan. It's in the triple digits where I live and will be for months so I can afford to wait :) It appeals to me the same way the Maya from last year did. I think the gathering will have the effect of making me look like I actually have a waist.

I'll wait for sale or a code and probably pick it up in a few colors.

  10. I just noticed that a few of the sale updates are really old, some from a year ago (like the cinched jersey dress for $60). I'd think that if they'd had an item for so long, they'd mark it down more.

  11. Not a single items from the new rollout that I have to have. Not one.

I would love to know the rationale behind having a rollout every other week when the new stuff is indistinguishable from previous stuff.

  12. ITA, Lauren. I saw some ooooooold popbacks earlier this morning, and some that were only 1 or 2 seasons back, and from there I snagged 2 tank/cami popbacks I'd been hoping for. :-)

Also, despite the 'backordered until August' message I got for the tailored denim pencil skirt, it arrived yesterday and I LOVE IT. I do wish I'd gotten an 8, but when I factor in winter fluff, it will probably be just right. :-)

  13. When you see old stuff that popsback it is not nec. what you will get in the mail. I stay away from them now after multiple bad experiences. I have had had least 5or 6 or maybe even 7 items--yes--almost too many too count-- that are not the actual item I ordered in the bag!!!! or has been worn...

  14. Elaine -
How does the tailored denim skirt fit? Is there stretch in it? It looks so cute!

  15. Summer, I've had the same experience with really old popbacks so you are wise to be wary. They need to put a footnote, "Item received may not be exactly the same as item shown".

Really not much excitement here for the new arrivals. A couple of things I like that may be new or may not be new, like others, it's all a blur.

Drawstring v-neck henley dress. Looks cute and comfy but check out the black version on the dress form, it is obviously very sheer as you can see right through it. Might be worth it on sale though.

Microspun cowlneck tee. I think this would be quite versatile *under* a jacket or sweater. Especially after silver_lining's comment on the use of microspun to replace tissue. Sounds about right.

  16. Help! pencil skirt fans, did you see the new cord pencil? I don't own one and I think I will get it. Would I wear the same size as my pant size? also LOVE some of the new cashmere--colors, V, cardigan. rimini looks interesting but will need to try it on. new version of the schoolboy... and they now carry inventory magazine which I steal from my husband (when we can find it) so will surprise him with it!

  17. Hi,
I was wondering if a kind soul would share with me a discount code? I need to buy a suit, and a code would be really helpful. Thanks!

  18. Hey Lizzy, what's funny is that the tailored denim pencil skirt fits exactly the way the item description reads ... compared with other denim skirts I have, this one is ever so slightly more fitted in the hip area, whereas most hang straight down.

IMO, this skirt runs true to size. I don't think there's any stretch to it, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I got it during the extra30 sale because I'd been looking at it for soooooo long, and I'm really glad I got it. If there's another % off promo, you should pick it up! Even at $59, I think you'd get more than enough wear out of it. :-)

  19. I just got back from my b&m and they didn't have very many new pieces: the cascading always cardi that I liked very much and the sequin strip tank that I did not like on me. Maybe some of the new pants, but so many of them look the same that I couldn't tell except to check to see if it was on sale. :) Most of the store is on sale, yet most of what they have left is tees - they're everywhere! :D I did get the last embroidered ikat skirt (yay!) and the toothpick in the amore wash, which by the way is cheaper in stores (39.99). They also had plenty of the impressionist skirt, the fluerette skirt, and the green shimmery pencil skirt (sorry, can't remember the name). Also, the piped cardigan in pale buff is 29.99, while the navy is 49.99.

  21. I went to Paramus store yesterday because my PS emailed me that they will have fall arrivals. OK, so nothing very exciting so far. Everybody was buying a new version of camo cargo pants. They are cropped and have a black elastic band at the waist with ruffly satin ribbon slightly peeking out from under it and extending in front to tie in a bow(!). I am not sure if my description makes sense to anybody, but I guess they are a girly spin on camo-cargo trend. I can just see the j crew description: 'we are obsessed','wearing them with sky high heels', 'pairing them with sequined top' you get the gist. Doubtfully, I tried them on, and surprise, I loved them! They also had a new version of Jaspe sweatshirt with partial zipper on the side. This looked cool but the fabric is not as soft and the fit is tighter. They came in distressed black, heather gray and gray with sparkles. Also with hoodies. Some new perfect shirts, including silk one very similar to terra paisley last year, but in coral (yummy, I will get it eventually). They also have several plaid flannel tunics in drab colors. I considered them for an upcoming camping trip but fortunately came to my senses and reminded myself I can get something similar for 1/4 of the price. Some short (this is not going away girls) wool A-line skirts, black, fitted, herringbone blazer, and bunch of new t-shirts I did not even bother looking at.
New cashmere but I was not interested since there is still plenty at sale prices.
I got the girly cargos and Jaspe sweatshirt in black. Oh, and cute striped thin long sleeve scoop neck with one pocket, in bronzed twig(?) and cream. They also have them in blush nude version. There was nothing in sale section that tempted me, even with extra 20%.

  22. Can someone review the Oak Tweed Skirt? For me I'm mostly a 6 in the pencil skirts, but when it comes to the lined skirts it's a bit iffy... Thank you...

  23. I'm with FFM and Chloe. Nuff said.

LaurenPhD, I was thinking the exact same thing! It engenders ill-will from loyal clients (at least me) to have those jersey dresses from a year ago hanging around at $60. They were $20, with an additional % off, in stores last summer. Just get rid of them already!

And I'm sorry, not to be overly negative, but I can't tell what's new either. When this many JCAs are saying the same thing, doesn't bode well for the Crew.

On the upside, I found several en plein air scarves in the pink/green print at my store. No markdown tag on them, but it did ring up $15.99 :)

  24. nycgirlygirl, I think the oak tweed skirt runs tts. I am mostly size 4 in classic JC pencil skirts, like double serge, vintage cord and perfect 120s. I took 2 in wool perfect pencil from last winter and all flower prints this spring. But a 4 in oak tweed fit me perfectly. For a reference I wear size 4 in shorts this year and 27R jeans and cords. It is beautiful skirt. I want to get it but I am holding off since I already have several pencil skirts in similar colors.

  25. nycgirlygirl - I agree with ajc, the Oak Tweed pencil skrt runs tts, IMO. I took my usual size 2, the fit is great, and flattering!

  26. Fabulous Florida Mommy and Chloe- THANK YOU for saying what I have been thinking - I am so tired of the just woke up hair as well on the jc catalog models!!!! They look lost and confused and - just awful!

  27. I also can't really tell what's new. Funny that the cashmere is now "Made in Italy" as someone else said. I always thought their whole "Yarn from Italy, Made in China" schpiel a little shrill and silly. Hell, maybe now the yarn is from China and the labor is from Italy. I don't care too much but it IS funny.

I like the cashmere cody cardigan. It comes in some especially yummy colors.

The new cashmere v-neck sweater also looks a lot better than the last rendition.

  28. Feels like there will be a new promo for the weekend... I predict 20% off starting tomorrow- hint hint jcrew:)

Yes I agree with FFM enough already with the birds nest hair!-not cute.

  29. Went to the Charleston, SC store today (actually, yesterday too) and the entire store seemed to be on sale with an extra 20% off. I didn't notice any new things, but I was really only going in to exchange some items.

  30. AppGal, what time were you there? I was there this morning, from around 11:30 till a little after 12. Wish I'd known you were going to be there. And, yes it did seem like almost the whole store was on sale. Billy (my ps) told me that they wouldn't get the next new line until around the 20th. Hard to believe JC will go that long without new items. Maybe we'll get a few new items each week until then.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't know......doubting we will see another online promo so soon...at least not an extra % off final sale. Maybe next weekend but they just had the big 30% online and now the stores are having their sale with 20% off.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Genny is right. I don't see 20% off sitewide. I *do* see the new 20% off jewelry + free shipping promo godo thru 7/5. I am not surprised there is no addt'l % offered online for the 4th. From what I've noticed, J Crew doesn't run their promos in accordance w/holidays in the same way that other retailers do. But who knows...maybe one might pop up...

  33. @ajc, you cracked me up with your orthcoming descriptions for the new camo pants!! Seriously, could they have any more "favorites of the season" or "design darlings"?!?

  34. math teacher: I think I was there RIGHT before you! We had a late breakfast at Hominy Grill then I dragged my husband and brother over to King Street. We didn't stay long though, but it sounds like we just missed each other!
