Additional New Arrivals are Here {yeah!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Desert_Flower, Marietta, Heidi (in this post), as well as Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had a mini-update to its website today (click here to view & shop online).

There are new April arrivals for men (click here) and women (click here), both online and in brick & mortar (B&M) stores.

Are you excited about the latest items? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I'm glad to see some linen trousers - I love those for summer! And the pere cotton cardigan in featherweight has some really pretty colors. I really like the original featherweight, so this is a slightly different style...

On the other hand, the flutter fold tube shell continues in the JCrew tradition of weird anatomical issue shirts. I think it was the Ruthie that looked like squiggly cancer, and this one gives me the same feel. Maybe it's the brown color. I'll wait to see it in person.

  2. I know spring and summer rollouts are typically smaller, but there isn't as much as I hoped there would be. No new dresses, only one new pencil skirt. Lots of new tees, though. Nothing on my must have list.

  3. The art t's are driving me nuts - the more things change the more they stay the same. I love the plaid shirt though but I just placed an order pffft.

  4. You know, if they hadn't been listed as "new" I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. I guess they're just repackaging what seems to be selling, but it's not working for me. I refuse to get yet another embellished tee whose only selling point is an open crewneck!

Heck, there's not even anything noteworthy to take a poke at, a la un-sweatpants, la crochet sequin dress, or side zippered devil jeggings...

  5. There are a few things I'm interested in trying on: coralie cami, tissue ruffle tank in neon citron, flower patch tee (I need a new white tee, so I hope this isn't sheer), tissue brushed bouquet tee in pale lilac, ombre paillette cardi, guilded jacquard skirt, and the crystal button earrings. Wow, guess that's more than just a few items. :) Oh course, many of them won't work IRL, but I like them on the model. It's better if they don't all work so that I'm not tempted to spend as much. :) I do like some of the colors being offered in the new tops - at least they're not all pale.

  6. I want a full priced code! I wish the skirts were longer than 17". I am 5'9 that just ain't workin' for me.

  7. Sheil,
Yes, I used to buy many JCrew skirts but they are too short now and I am 5'10" so it has been a long while. I prefer fuller skirts and am not a pencil skirt fan.

  8. I was told awhile ago that they are continuing to release small rollouts every couple of weeks, instead of the large and less frequent ones they used to have...at least for the time being.

  9. ooh i like that Max and Molly art tee! it has a nice little pop of color! :)

  10. Anyone know what the neon pink thing the girl in the photo has around her waist? I love that color!

  11. I like the plaid shirt, but I don't think I'd pay full price for it.

  12. I was told by an SA yesterday that there will be new items in stores on the 12th and then a Bigger rollout on the 25th. I did get the suckered gingham shirt in Lilac today. I saw a woman with one this weekend in pink and loved it so let's see if I can make it work.... Otherwise not much else. Oh I did get my Bazaar tunic dress and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! It might even be on my top 10 favorite jcrew purchases list!!!

  13. In case anyone missed it, and it may have been discussed in previous comments I missed, but J.Crew Fall ’10 was reviewed in WWD. http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/mix-masters-j-crew-fall-2010-3022272

  14. was in local B&M yesterday, got a pair of new silk/linen cargo pants. They are the same style I bought in the fall (cropped--not the more recent ripstop with bulky side pockets.) fabric has a bit of shimmer and they are really light weight with some drape. They are not in the catalog or online.

  15. Note on the linen trousers (not the silk/linen ones) that Amanda mentioned- I have already tried them and they run small, like an entire size. They may stretch a bit, but not enough to make them a size bigger.

  16. Just came home from doing some online returns. The bazaar print items are really, REALLY pretty. I understand why Twiga likes her dress so much! Didn't see much new in the sale section other than a few dresses. The Carly dress was $70, the jersey dress from pre-spring with the ruffled high neck empire was $40, and the Ruffle Rose dress in both black and the dark burnt orange were $60. I have the Ruffle Rose in dark plum and love it, I'd get another color if they go down some more.

As far as the new rollout goes, I have to wonder what demographic they're trying to attract with the styling. The big photo on the wall behind the bank of registers has the model wearing the usual hodgepodge of whackadoo layers, but with a head scratching twist: TWO skirts. The first layer is the teenybopper neon waistband ruffly mini, and the outer layer is what must be a micro-mini coral twill number. I get that there has been a resurgence of ruffled slips and petticoats, but the JC version looks crew-azy indeed.

  17. There is a model with two skirts in the last catalog. I was kind of surprised that no one mentioned it.

I really like the frequent small roll outs as they fit with the way I shop. Unfortunately, this rollout looks like more of the same to me. I am still waiting for some decently long fuller skirts.

Twiga, I have the slate Rick shirt from the holidays and really love it. I like the lilac too, but am not sure how much I would use it. I wear mine alot both tucked in with pencil skirts and out with jeans. I can definitey see that lilac with a grey pencil or open over a white tee and white or blue jeans.

  18. Thanks Kitsmommy for the styling ideas:) The woman I saw wearing one this weekend wore it out with some chinos and a cashmere sweater over her shoulders. My work is very dressy so I will probably be sporting it on the weekend with Jeans!

  19. Cheesy: ITA when I saw that picture of the model wearing two skirts and wacky layered pieces going on. Not a look I would be even inclined to try out.

As for the new roll out it's small and there's nothing that I want SO bad. I'm into Anthro these days and they have much more interesting pieces. I too am getting tired of JC's re-hashed version of the ruffle tees, "art" tees and what not... but crew-lade is strong so we'll see.
I still haven't received the new catalog and I'm hoping I can get the 20% off coupon but not having high hopes for it. ;-P

  20. i really like the two new camis (coralie and the ruffle tube thingy) - the colors look fantastic. however, it could all go haywire once i try them on...

i did notice the model with two skirts when i first looked through the april catalog. i chuckled! and then i dug through my j.crew archives and thumbed through the march 09 catalog. ladies. the difference is staggering. there's lauren hutton looking absolutely gorgeous. the styling is much, much simpler than what we now see and the looks overall are prettier and more wearable.

i love some of the newer stuff but i wonder how a shift of one year can be so extreme.

  21. I finally tracked the Linen Charter Skirt in my size and wouldn't you know after all the trouble it popped up online today.

I was told by SA that it was store only but I guess she was wrong or they changed their minds.

  22. I usually love the prints that come out in Swimwear but this year, the small, floral prints look to me like underwear. I like them, but I just think bra and undies when I see them, not a bathing suit.

  23. OT: Has anyone tried on any of Ann Taylor LOFT's wedges and can comment on fit and comfort? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Kay - I can't speak to the wedges but I got a pair of high platform heels from Loft last year (similar to the JC Ares platform heels) and I found them to be TTS, and even comfortable for being so high. Pricewise, I think they can be a great alternative to JC shoes.

Megha, you make a great point about the styling change even from last spring. Last year had big necklaces, but the models were only wearing one at a time (same with skirts!). I don't get what's up with this excess - do they really expect us to buy 7-8 pieces just to recreate 1 look?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Rebecca- thanks for the tip. I'm hopefully going to find them in my store to try on, I'm all over the place with JC pants when they're "standard."

CheesyGoodness - on my last foray to JCrew, I noticed two hipster girls in there, you know - tight jeans, ripped ts, vintage blazers, etc, etc. I wanted to approach them and ask them why they were in JCrew... I felt it might really answer some fundamental questions for me. Like why have a picture of a model in two skirts.

  26. For those who like the print of the Jaipur tunic but not the fit, my store has received a skirt in the same print priced at $88. It's a linen mini in the same syle as the wednesday tie-dyed one (with the big elastic band at the waist) so it won't please many but the print is so beautiful... I put it on hold and going to sleep on it one night!
I apologize if this came out on the website too, I haven't checked.

  28. Amanda, I wish you'd asked! "Inquiring JCAs want to know.." And Megha, it is hard to believe that was only a year ago! Things seemed so much simpler then. I barely bothers me that I'm not consistently getting the catalogs, since I have to fight to see the actual items anymore.

Nonetheless, today's been a very Crew day for me. I'm in 75% JC, went to the B&M, and just got my goodies from the last promo. The black tango tank actually shipped, and is miraculously in good condition! And I got a madras skirt for DD, a popback from '08, which is fine, too. Will wonders never cease? I'm lamenting the state of the mini patent Campo, though. There's some major creasage going on that I can't overlook, even for a tidge less than half price. Also, I am very unimpressed with the silk Bonfire dress. It is wicked sheer, shapeless, and pretty cheap looking. I've had nightgowns more substantial, so this is going back as well.

The only item I'm on the fence about is the Supernova necklace that I got in gunmetal. It's really cool looking, a neat design, and so enticingly sparkly. Love the length, too, but it kind of smells metallicy. Can anyone comment on this? Does the smell fade or should this go into the return pile?

    ReplyDelete
  29. CheesyGoodness,

Glad to hear your popbacks for the most part were in excellent condition. My 3 recent ones were all defective or wrong in the past two months.

I tried to save you from the Bonfire Dress. I posted at least 3 times that it is super sheer and not worth the $$$. I did not even try it on I thought it was so bad. I just put it back in the package and returned it. The most I would pay for it would be $19.99.

  30. I just got back from the B&M where I made some returns. Nothing new since the last time I was there, so none of the rollout that was online today. SA said they expect some new items mid-month as part of a bigger rollout in store and online.

  32. I just received my March catalog last week...and it had a promo code in it that was already expired! My catalogs have been consistently late and I'm a cardholder, it makes me sad. /rant

That being said, I didn't see anything in the rollout that I must have.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Would love to see a promo or free ship code. Maybe tomorrow? Does anyone have one?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think there has been a percentage off regular price items for a couple of months, has there?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Only a few items caught my eye...nothing I'm dying to have at full price.

  36. No must-haves for me. I'm spent (literally and figuratively!) so I'm going to embark on a 99% firm / 1% flexible shopping ban for the next 30 days. ...

  38. didn't see much new that i was excited about. just got my shipment from last rollout -- LOVE the merino popover tunic. i'd recommend sizing down for it, otherwise it's really baggy (i got both the s and m and will be returning the m). i also received the rayon v-neck pocket dress and was shocked at how see through it was even if it was a beach cover up.... that will be returned as well.

  39. Ema: Do you happen to know the style # and color code for the Jaipur print skirt that you mentioned? I have the Wednesday tie-dyed skirt and I really like it so I would LUV to have that style skirt in the Jaipur print as well! =P
If I get the style # and color code then I do a WWFIFY search and have it shipped right to my house w/ free shipping!! TIA for any help! :)

  40. Genny, ugh, you were totally right! I don't know why, but hope springs eternal for me with JC no matter how often I'm let down. I am the kind of person who continues to read a book until the end if I finish the first chapter, even if I really don't like it! It's kind of like kicked dog syndrome. JC sends me messed up shipments on and off for months, or the right stuff ships and it's crazy looking, then I get one great popback in perfect condition, and here I am, licking their hand again.

    ReplyDelete
  41. remember petticoats under your skirt? (I'm probably old enough to be some of your grandmothers so maybe not) that is what I think the two skirts is about. I am thankful JC is diversifying and attracting more age groups and style profiles. I hope growth indicates they will continue to be around for all of us and our style preferences - and hopefully - help them get their shipping act together!!

  42. Megha, you are so right! I was cleaning my office today and the January 2009 catalog fell out of a file, LoL. Simple, gorgeous outfits with colors and elements chosen to complement one another, not thrown on a la homeless chic. Was it really just a year ago?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Gem Twin, I totally remember the lace-edged petticoats under the denim prairie skirt. I cringe whenever I see "Big Love" or fundamentalist polygamists on the news, because we saw a lot of that look in my junior high home ec class circa 1981 . . . not so far removed from the Honeyclover dress that sold out so quickly!

  44. MMM, I bought the jaipur linen skirt and the style number is 27444, color LBE, WA7780. Good luck!

  45. math teacher: How much is the Jaipur skirt?

    ReplyDelete
  46. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU math teacher!! I really appreciate it!
    I'm off to call CS....

    ReplyDelete
  47. ffm, it is $88. Which is normally more than I like to pay, but it was so darn cute! And, flying out of the store. And, not available online (at least not yet). I say go for it, especially if you like the print. It's a very well made skirt - lined with ribbon along the edge of the material on the inside of the hem (does that make sense?).

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh, and I sized down. Well, they didn't have my regular size so I tried one size down and it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks for the additional sizing info, math teacher! :) You're the greatest!!!
Ema mentioned it being similar to the Wednesday skirt- Should I go with the size that I wore in that one? It does have an elastic waist, right? OR is it a bit more *poofy* like the Monterey skirts from last year-- if so, I'll have to size down one too!?!? :-\

TIA for any (more) help!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. MMM, it's not a-line at all, more of a straight cut. I tried on the other one but didn't like it b/c of the material so I don't remember much about the fit. I did try my regular size on in the other, so maybe I would have liked it better if I had sized down. It does have a thick elastic waistband like the other. Hope that all makes sense and that it helps. And, it's dry clean only (if that fact matters).

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just wanted to say "thank you" again to 'Ema' and 'math teacher' for mentioning the Jaipur print skirt!! I called CS and did a WWFIFY search yesterday and the skirt was found and it's on it's way to me! :)
This blog is wonderful (well, it's not so wonderful for my wallet though!)!! =P
