"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Having a terrible time getting Madewell to refund about $300 worth of returns. I called the other night and was told I had to wait 14 days (14 days passed yesterday) after I mailed the package via US mail. Then in that mealy, irritating CS voice, the woman said, "Do you have a scan or photograph of our mailing label you can send me?" No, actually I don't. Neither do I have a photograph of the package going onto the mail truck just to give myself airtight proof that I really returned the package. I have the receipt from USPS, thank goodness. I do a lot of online ordering and returns, particularly to J. Crew. and have never run into this before. Anyone have any advice?

    1. If you have the receipt from USPS that is proof that the package was accepted into their system and proof that you did your part. You should be able to look up the tracking number on the USPS website and see where it is. Also CS should have been able to look this up. Did you provide CS w/ the tracking number from the USPS receipt? A lot of times with returns I have found it takes longer than 14 days. If the tracking says picked up by agent it is somewhere between USPS and madewell. I always make copies of the return form and write the tracking number on the label on the copy in case something comes up. Good luck!

    2. If I encounter an unhelpful CS, I call back at a different time of day and try again with a different person. Generally works.

    3. Thanks everyone.
Jess, the CS wouldn't accept the tracking # from USPS. Insisted that was different from the number I would have if I'd photographed the label. Hopefully the returns will be credited soon. I've never ordered much from Madewell so expected it would run as well as J. Crew returns usually do, at least for me.

    4. Assuming you've typed the tracking number you have into the search box on usps.com ?

    5. You can also try emailing contactus@jcrew.com. I find the email reps extremely cheerful and efficient, and sometimes willing to make exceptions (for example, 8 days out for price adjustment).

    6. WFF,
I typed in both package numbers at USPS and the trail ended Sept. 14 in Greensboro, NC. I live in Winston-Salem, 40 or so miles away. BUT, just this afternoon got a message that one package arrived at Madewell and is being processed. So, go figure. If my wide feet hadn't fit so well into the shoes I ordered in a couple of different sizes, I probably wouldn't order from them again anytime soon.

  2. I mentioned this in another post but i'm still waiting for a package being delivered by mail innovations... such a joke... actually made it to my post office and then was sent out to FIVE OTHER POST OFFICES before returning to my post office... and i still don't have it yet.

    uggh.

  3. Not exactly a vent - but I find it disconcerting that Tippi's are on super sale in a hilarious variety of "neon" colors: cantaloupe, papaya, tangerine, hibiscus etc., mostly shades of orange and pink. Something similar happened last year when no fewer than 6 shades of gray Tippi's were on sale. Somehow they don't make that mistake with blue, a color that many of us seem to want. There was almost a whole year when Tippi's weren't available in basic navy.

    1. I was just looking at the Tippis and thinking the same thing! I don't mind some of the colors, but if the had any in my size, I could only see myself buying one of the brights, not multiples (and I'm definitely a "buy one in every colour" when I like something kind of shopper).

  4. More price tricks. I ordered a couple of basic tees and tanks during last week's 30% off transaction discount. A few of the basic colors showed up as backordered, which means they weren't eligible for the promo. Lo and behold, they shipped two days ago and arrived yesterday, from stores. So they weren't really backordered, J. Crew just didn't want the promo to apply. Sigh.
