Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I went to the store yesterday to returnthe circle mini in crinkle crepe in the reddish color—as much as I loved it, it didn't look great with any of my shirts besides a button down tucked in, i would have gotten the black instead but it's very similar to the plaza skirt from fall 2014 silhouette and texture wise. Also a coverup that was striped and supposed to be black but was most definitely navy. Although the young man assisting me with the returns (seemed new) was trying to argue with me that it was black but looked navy. What difference does it make? It didn't work for me.

Anyway, of course I looked around and tried on a few things.
The gazebo pants. I tried the 00 and 0. 0 was loose but 00 was a bit tight. Regular readers would know I tend to not wear pants besides black and denim but I tried the flax and liked them, although the length is a bit funny on me, I'm 5'6". I wish they were an inch or so longer but with the rig shoes they might be fine.
The color flax is almost identical, at least by memory, to the skort that came out last spring which I have and love, and I have a linen blazer that matches really well.) I didn't like the orangey red color. I'd have preferred a deeper red.
I also tried on the linen shorts that were sort of similar texture wise and the 00 fit fine, so who knows.

In the sale section I found the Rhodes blazer in micro gingham, it feels lightweight but actually has some wool in it. The 0 was a little tight but I found a 4 and went with that. I'll wear it more casually. The colors are a deep burgundy and navy (I read blood red somewhere) but the navy is so dark it's almost black. I have a Thomas Mason black and white gingham tuxedo shirt And I may try to play around with mixing the slightly different scale patterns. I also have that lightweight red white and navy scarf from the fall that coordinates, as well as a few other scarves. One of the SAs was wearing it as shown online, a navy tee and white jeans. I think it's a good piece. (It doesn't seem to fit as large as some of the heavier Rhodes Blazers I tried holiday and winter.)

I also picked up a few pieces of jewelry, a necklace which seems to be sold out online, the crystal and peal studded swing necklace. It's a bit of a splurge for me but I really love pearls and this is a fun, yet not so outrageously bold alternative. I considered the coordinating earrings but they might be a bit much, maybe if they are reduced further. I also got the bracelet with the tortoise and pave links because I love it and my pave link bracelet from factory cracked in half after not much wear.

Store sale was 40 off with 30 percent off the store, and some jewelry was additional 25 percent off.

Online, before they go final sale, I ordered another pair of the Point Sur jeans (or ran wash) in several sizes. I want to see if I can get them to hang a little lower instead of sitting on my waist. Still trying to get used to all the high waisted jeans I got. And I ordered the tipped cotton cable sweater, in the ivory/black. I hope it's not too short, I could use this in cotton as opposed to wool or cashmere.

  2. @SuzHas, the Rhodes blazer sounds like a great find! Thanks for the detailed descriptions of items!
Have you tried the lookout highrise jeans, I haven't yet but am curious about fit.

    1. I have a pair of the highrise jeans. They are very uncomfortable even going up a size. The waist doesn't move with your shape and just digs in. I normally love high rise jeans but they were not good. But keep in mind different washes may fit different on the waist since all denim can be a bit different fitting.

    2. @RN, thank you for the input! I was thinking of trying the lookout crops but that doesn't sound promising. :)

    3. Just to add another perspective, the Lookout high rise are my favorite jeans. I've almost worn my favorite resin rinse ones out :0. Having said that, I'm a solid size 10 @ J Crew, and took a 32T in these. I can wear a 31 in some of the rinses, but the 31 in resin are tighter in the waist than the others. I just received a couple of the new rinses, and one runs much bigger through the legs than all the others. But I'm a big fan in general.

    4. @Wendy, thank you! I'm a toothpick lover but still find the rise a bit low on the new ones. I'll have to try the lookout hopefully my closest store will have some. Have you tried the boater wash (crops)? Thx again!

    5. No problem! Sorry-I haven't tried the boater wash, but online it looks similar to my lookout crop in hayton wash with let out hem (one of my faves). I also love the white crops. I hope they work for you!

  3. I can't get to a store this weekend but I did order the pointy toe espadrilles since they say online only. I'll review them when I get them which takes a while in Canada. I'm trying to hold off on other items until I see them in store but it sounds like stores haven't received some of the new dresses which I was hoping to try.

    1. My online orders to Vancouver are always the full 9 days.... plus 2 more days because weekends do not count,,,,what a long wait.

  4. First off, apologies for my early morning typos.

I should clarify the jeans I ordered are the Point Sur shoreditch in the Orran wash.
Last fall I ordered the Shoreditch selvedge jeans in the Chipman wash in my usual size but found they ran a bit large to fit as a fitted pair of high waisted jeans, but too small to ride my hips. I'm hoping sizing up will allow them to sit on my hips. We shall see.

@jan, I haven't tried the lookout high rise. I feel like I can't do a high waisted skinny jean, although I think it can be flattering (and looks amazing on my 5'10" size 0 daughter) but my torso is so long I'm just not comfortable with the look. If I do a high waist I think I need a wider leg or flare of some kind to balance out the proportions.

    1. @SuzHas, I have a long torso too so that's what I was worried about. If I'm in store I may try them for fun but I seem to always forget when I'm there.
The point sur jeans look nice, I only tried one highrise pair quite a while ago but the rise was too high on me. The quality seemed quite good though.

    2. My biggest issue with the Point Sur jeans (aside from the original cost) is to not be able to try several sizes. I'm almost always a 25 in jeans, but some jeans look better a little looser, and the way they hang can totally transform the look. I'll spend $100 or so because I'll wear them to death, but sometimes you really need to test out a lot before settling on the ONE.

    3. Def agree about trying multiple pairs (sometimes two in the same size fit differently). I wish I could buy in store but often rely on online which is harder for sure. Good luck with the ones you ordered!

  5. I will not be going to a J.Crew store this weekend, but I will be stalking for several popbacks online...really wishing there was free shipping on all orders.

  6. Oh, I saw someone trying on the Long sleeve striped maxi dress.
She was an older (at least 50s, maybe 60s) woman and she looked SO chic.
From the context it seemed like she was buying for an event, she was talking about wearing diamond pave Huggie earrings and looking for coordinating jewelry. Maxi dresses are not my thing usually (I actually bought the kimono striped one several years ago and felt so awkward in it) but this is a little more structured. I'd love to see someone style it with flat sandals.

  7. I'll be heading to my local store for some returns. I ordered the sweater striped skirt and let me tell you that my disdain for this article of clothing could not be stronger. This skirt has a beautiful pattern in the navy color way but the cream color way was a very dirty white. However, the fabric was absolutely horrid. It felt like one of those cheap sweaty gym towels. It was scratchy, heavy, and ugly. Ugh. I've never been so disappointed probably because my anticipation was so high. I'm also returning the colorful crystal foliage necklace. It was not a wow piece. I have way too many necklaces to keep something just so so.

    1. Oh I've been SO curious about that skirt - thanks for your review! I love it on the website, but when using the zoom in feature it looks weirdly fuzzy/spongy (or even towel-like, as you said). So I was thinking it was something that should be seen in person first.

    2. That's disappointing about the skirt. I love how its styled on 'Looks We Love - 3 Ways'. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

  8. I will not be heading to the store this weekend but I did stop by last night to return a pair of toothpick jeans that had issues...I had bought them sometime last year and didn't have the receipt but the SA gladly let me exchange them for anything in the store. I didn't want the newer toothpick jean so I got the Tortoise Medallion Necklace and they owed me $12.00 on a gift card. I was sad about the jeans but I love this necklace.

  9. I will not be visiting a store--I just want them to ship my darn fringy tweed jacket. (Because I totally needed another tweedy, fringe-y, Chanel-style jacket.) Starting to fret about the delay. My last few orders have taken forever to ship.

    ReplyDelete
  10. My order only partially shipped, it's business day 7 today and the last item hasn't shipped. So much for 6-8 business days! I am tempted to call and ask them to cancel it, but I bet they'll claim they can't.

  11. For those interested...my list of weekend sales & deals from retailers around the web (including J.Crew, J.Crew Factory, & Madewell), along with my personal picks is posted here on my blog. Enjoy your weekend! :)

  12. I have to go to return the candy strip popover shirt. It was a HUGE disappointment. It runs big...wide but kind of short. The real deal-breaker is the dolman sleeves which seem to be low set or something. I found it extremely unflattering and couldn't get it off fast enough. This was the first time that I pre-ordered and paid full price in years...I guess I learned my lesson.

  13. I had grand plans of hitting up a few J.Crew stores while in NYC earlier this week but the shopping time I did have was spent in stores that I don't usually get to visit at home. Before I left yesterday, I had a little extra time and stopped in to the store on Madison and 45th which was a few blocks from where I was staying. I tried on several items - the Cotton shirt dress in white (like the style a lot but not in white - and hello wrinkles!), Silk Smocked Dress in Paisley (cute, but too short for me and the smocking was too wide for my taste, Short Sleeve Dress in Multi Tweed, Diamond Jacquard A-Line Dress, Mixed Paisley Top and Patchwork Stripe Tee. You can see photos on my blog here

I really want to try out the long stripe dress but they didn't have that. Probably no other store visit for me this weekend but my order of new arrivals from earlier this week should arrive today.

    1. Thanks for the reviews, Anne! Glad you managed a little JC visit in between your busy day. Agree with you on many of the pieces -- i like that paisley print and saw it on the dress, but put it back on the rack once I saw the Smocked design b/c that dress didn't work on me in the other colors. (Also surprised to hear it's silk!) I liked and bought that shirtdress in Black but even though I loved the easy, dress-down or dress-up styling potential, the white version made me feel like a nurse as well -- I think it's the sleeves.

Lastly, it was 78 degrees here in NYC yesterday and the last thing I want while commuting on a humid subway is tweed. Some of the pieces this year feel as if they've been released a season/roll-out too late -- another JCA was saying this about the new Merino-wool Tippis -- why now?

Anyways, can't wait to hear about your new arrivals!

  14. Did anyone receive our dear leader's email? Your thoughts?

    1. Hi @JSR, I did just receive it and I thought it was positive and a nice touch. I've been finding pieces that remind me of the old Jcrew and Ive been happier with the quality lately so I feel that his message of 'jcrew is back' seems to be coming true or at least heading in the right direction.
I was happy to see cotton skirts, dresses etc for summer and am hoping poly isn't hiding in too many.
Personally I'm really hoping for the best for the company because I've relied on them for clothing that fits me well for so many years and I think their customer service is fantastic.

    2. I thought it was well-meant, and I too hope for better. I think the truest tests will be (1) fibers (looking at you, pilly cashmere!); (2) fabrics; (3) sizing. I woke up my blog yesterday and am planning a post on critical judgment, so I found Dear Leader's message timely.

      Delete
    3. I did, and I am not convinced. I am still missing the beautiful prints, durability, and consistent sizing of old pieces. And I do not agree with the quality being better for the price when they're trying to sell all poly for near $100 an item.

      Delete
    4. @Alyssa I totally agree with you. Sizing is all over the place lately, and they always manage to price items that will end up being approx. $100.00 with promos - and when I check the fabrics - ALWAYS polyesters. Not buying polyester at any price, from any maker.

    5. It has been almost a year this June, since J.Crew had their lay-offs. With new people replaced, especially Women's head designer-Somsack, I am holding off my 2 cents till Fall season. That's where the true test is for me.

Styling has toned down, more to a classic direction. As far as quality and sizing, I don't buy J.Crew as much as some of you ladies do, so I can't comment. :)

Has both quality and sizing improve a bit?

    6. I did not receive the email. In fact right after I placed my last order, I received an email with a 15% off coupon for signing up for Jcrew emails. ?????? Bizarre. I somehow I unsubscribed and had to subscribe again. Weird!

      Delete
    7. I did receive the e-mail and I thought it was more wishful thinking than anything else. If Mickey is telling me that someone else thinks the old J Crew is back, maybe I will too. Which I don't. I see some positive steps but there have still been so many rollouts or styles that seem like misfires, inflated prices and then quick sale. I think I would have liked to see a "let's keep moving to a positive place", versus "we're back and you should know it cuz that customer does, see!"

    8. TeriLynn13, in complete agreement.

    9. Shopping Celle, I had unsubscribed and then noticed when you place an order now, they've added a 'subscribe me to email' box below the submit button, and it defaults to checked, so it re-aubscribes you unless unchecked. Not a fan of that...

  15. I too got the Mickey note and wondered if I had gotten on his radar because I've ordered more this spring than I have in years. I'm still not ordering as much as I used to but I needed to replace most of my pretty print shirts from 2010. They finally wore out. I'm sending back the Save the Bees tee that came yesterday, though, for a problem they still haven't gotten the message on--see-through tees. The bee illustrations are really wonderful but you can see my nude bra right through them. The problem is particularly noticeable in the back where there's no print. Such a waste of a good illustrator's talent and a shame such a good cause has to suffer from poor execution. No way when it's hot enough in the Southeast to wear a short-sleeved tee, do I want to pile a cami on.

  19. Great review Gigi! I also prefer how you styled it, rather than having a button down under it. So basically a u-neck tee should work, a boat neck or collar might look wierd. It's a very attractive jacket, for sure.

Off topic, I didn't get an email from Mickey, didn't realize I had been relegated to the naughty list.

    1. I agree. It looks great with a non-collared shirt. It doesn't look right with a collared shirt at all.

It's not exactly my style, but I'm thinking about it with the navy Carrie cami and I can't get it out of my head. I think it would look cute with a pair of dark Flea Market flares, too. It would de-fancify it.

    2. Evidently I'm on the naughty list too!

    3. Re: not getting the email I wonder if it was based on how long you've been on the email list because I also received it in an account that I haven't used for an order for many years but that email has been subscribed for years. Since the message was that jcrew is back maybe it was to people who had email subs for many years.

    4. I do not receive ANY J Crew emails to the email address that I give in the store and use for online orders. However, I did receive Mr. Drexler's email to my work email account and to a separate email address I have.
