  1. Sigh. I bit again. The collection cashmere pocket v-neck sweater (e7632) is only $90 (but FS). I wear sweaters like this a lot, and it's the rare JC cashmere that has gotten good recent reviews. Worth the risk for me. Also got several colors of the lightweight wool tunic sweater (e7036) ($30, but FS) which also got good reviews, and the cotton Jackie cardigan (29350) ($22.50, FS) in white and navy (only white is left, but who couldn't use another white cotton cardigan?).

  2. I'm shopping my closet....and am finding some NWT items, and wow, the quality is so much better 4 years ago than now. I thought it was declining back then, but look at where it is now!

Has anyone taken in a No.2 Double Serge Cotton Pencil Skirt? I want to narrow the hips $ waist but don't know how successful that is.

    1. @pathos, I was just bemoaning about the sizing for pencil skirts on Gigi's site yesterday -- my usual size more often than not fits perfectly at the waist, but too wide at the hips. I have gotten skirts taken in ('tapered' is what my tailor calls it), with mixed results. Sometimes the skirt is taken in too much at the hips for whatever reason, creating other problems. It's definitely possible and I've had skirts tailored perfectly, but the trick, of course, is to find a really good tailor. Mine is generally good, but on the inexpensive side and so I think his shop becomes overwhelmed with customers so that they don't always do a good job.

I recently bought and returned a pretty No. 2 Donegal Wool Skirt in the pink color -- just didn't want to go through the hassle of hemming & tapering. But I'm disappointed more than anything in how J Crew's sizes can be all over the place on the same item. I've gotten other Pencil Skirts (namely, 2 in the Super 120s wool last fall) that fit perfectly in every respect. Good luck with whatever you decide -- it is attainable, but need to find a reputable tailor. Cost-wise, I think mine charges anywhere from $20 and up per item. (Though this price often includes hemming for the item as well.)

    2. I have this problem and find that factory pencil skirts fit much better. However, they don't make a No 2. pencil skirt that's of the same quality (I'm thinking mostly of the cotton one; the factory wool dupe is good enough for me) -lep33shops

    3. That's my problem, it seems so easy but I can see how it would throw the whole skirt off. I have skirts from 2011-2012 never worn...I like the weight of the double serge cotton. I don't see them making these anymore. I like them with t-shirts and flat sandels.

    4. @Lauren, I recently purchased that Scattered Dot pencil skirt from Factory and experienced the same exact issue :-( Sizing apart, I thought the skirt was really cute and well-done. But I'd bought it on sale for $42 and didn't want to turn it into a $62 venture. (Incidentally, I recently experienced this same issue with skirts from Banana and AT. Womp womp. I think the problem is me, haha!)

    5. I wouldn't recommend taking it in. I did that to my no.2 double serge cotton pencil skirt and it totally ruined the whole silhouette. I can't even wear the skirt now. Somehow the hips now pucker and bulge out. My tailor is super awesome so I know it wasn't him.

  3. Completely, completely off-topic, but I'm so excited ot share the Swiss Army Man trailer that was dropped this morning. The film comes out 6/18 limited release and 7/1 wide release (and my birthday!). I have a part at the end of the film. Oh, I did wear the 2013 swiss dot cami (review) with a grey suit. lol

  4. Currently sitting in an exam room waiting for my son's neuro to come in... by far the best part of one of these trips to UVA is the stop by the clearance store on the way home! Wearing a new pair of Sloan flats today for the first time for the occasion. These shoes are so comfy!

    4. Good luck Taylor. I don't know which UVA building you're at but I used to live less than a block from the main UVA hospital in Charlottesville (in a neat 1930s house which has since been torn down). Agree the clearance store is on my bucket list! We need to organize a JCA meetup/trip there!! Summers work best for me... :D

    5. Hey clearance store sister!!! As always, all the best to you and your son. Hope you have a "hit" and not a "miss" at the clearance store. I am hitting up Arden either this week or next, haven't decided yet.

    6. I would loooove to have a JCA meetup there.

Wishing some Doodle Dachshund luck for you at mecca, Taylor. :)

    7. Thanks all! It was a routine checkup for my son so no surprises there. I did have a pretty good clearance store trip, however! They were running a 40% off 4+ items sale & I was all too happy to oblige. I scored a white linen schoolboy blazer, a pair of white lookout crops, Laila sandals in vachetta, suede Ceces in dark peony, & the Madewell Elin loafers in black... All for $170! And yes definitely co-signing on a need for a JCA meetup there! Wonder if we could get them to close the store for us... :)

  5. Does anyone have any feedback on the A-line hibiscus print skirt that is in the 50% off sale category? The reviews all seem bad. Mainly just interested in sizing information.

    1. I tried it on and found it TERRIBLE- the waist was really really high and made it too uncomfortable to wear. My normal skirt size fit

    2. I wrote one of those negative reviews. I am a pear shape, and a-line skirts are usually great. Not here--normal size was way too tight and I couldn't even zip all the way. Would have to go up at least 1 size, maybe 2. The a-line cut is really narrow as well.

    3. Yikes! It doesn't sound promising. Thanks for the feedback.
