Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. It looks like a bunch of men's and Crewcuts images from the August 2014 catalog have been uploaded to JC's Pinterest page. Maybe we'll actually see women's items today! Personally, I get more ideas from the little girls' styling than I do from the womens' a lot of the time.

Also, OT - I am in Montreal for the weekend. Shopping-wise, are there any Canadian brands I must check out? I'm thinking Roots and Joe Fresh for sure.

    1. My VPS sent me some women's images. I have passed them on to Gigi. Check out club Monaco and Simons. Love Montreal!

  2. Hi Everyone! I stopped in to my local store and they had received the first fall rollout...but they can't put in on the floor until next week. But they gave me a catalog. What can I say??? I know it's transition season clothing, but it's the most unfitted, shapeless, drab, fugliest collection I've ever seen. LOTS of oversized sloppy tops (some with stupid sayings in HUGE letters on them), LOTS of sweatpants. NO ONE looks good in these. I say "if a model looks bad in a garment just think what you are going to look like in it". The color scheme is gray, black, heather gray, cream. Very few prints. One is a black and white toile. UGH! I didn't see ONE thing I would ever even consider wearing. As usual I like the men (in particular....ha!) garments and the kids look great. I just con't figure out all the fugly, shapeless, dreary stuff J. Crew makes for us!!!

    1. Glad I am not the only one that disliked this last catalog. Let's see, how long it will be until the sale section is bulging with this bunch of stuff?

    2. Disappointing to hear. I don't know why J. Crew is acting like a couture line with weird shapes and unusual pieces. Why not just classics with a twist? I absolutely cannot wear baggy or unfitted pieces, they look terrible on me so if that's what is being rolled out I'll be saving money. Thankfully I have thrift stores and consignment shops to get the good J. Crew pieces. I mostly bought fall stuff with these last sales so I'm probably good anyways. I usually will still splurge on a special piece that's drool worthy but doesn't sound like that's happening.

    3. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds kind of right up my alley lol! I don't like the tops with huge letters, but other than that, I love gray clothes, neutrals and sweatpants. Not sure if I'd like the oversized pieces, though. Guess I'll have to just wait and see.

  3. I really think they should consider replacing Tom Mora as head of women's designs. Their offerings have been soooo out of touch since he stepped in. Unflattering& odd shapes just don't work for the average woman. Disappointing…

  4. I have a quick exchange question. I purchased the field jacket online last week when it was on sale and I want another size. Can I do an even exchange in store even though the jacket is full price in store? I haven't made an exchange in JCrew in a long time. TIA!

    1. I did this last fall, when I realized I purchased the wrong size of an item (which was on sale, but not FS). The in-store sales associate ordered the item online for the sale price (they were out of stock), and returned the wrong size item. I would contact your local store or online CS to see how this works, but if you are doing an even exchange and and have your invoice, they should accommodate. BTW, I bought that same jacket during the promotion too :-)

    2. Thanks Jennifer! My local store was out of my size and I'm too lazy to wait for shipping so I'm headed to another store to exchange.

  5. Looking at the August style guide uploading on Pinterest. One look caught my attention that I can't stand. I don't know if J.Crew is going for this trend that's going on in fashion right now but I can't stand it. #NORMCORE
It's the model wearing a tangerine merino sweater with the crepe shirttail skirt, with adidas rubber slippers. I wear those as my house slippers! J.Crew might as well wear white gym socks along with the slippers and call it a day!

I don't mind the sweater and skirt pairing, but with the slippers? Sloppy.
    #stopnormcore it's ughhh-leeeee!

    1. Adidas rubber slippers?! First Birks, now these. They remind me of my college boyfriend, what he would wear to shower in the dorms in 1998!

    2. The Adidas rubber shower slides made me laugh. What are they thinking? Maybe they're thinking this will draw in a younger crowd?

    3. JSR - I dusted the cobwebs off myself and looked up normcore. This Lucky Mag slideshow covers the trend and includes the Adida slides. Michael Phelps might make a comeback and everyone wants to show support. I dunno.

  6. I just looked at what has uploaded on Pinterest so far - STOP IT with the shapeless, over-sized sacks, J Crew!

  7. Looking at Pinterest, I really only like the merino v-neck cardigan for women. The colorblock bomber for men looks cool though I bet it's pretty expensive. Otherwise, I'm not feeling it either. The silk tops could be good, but I can get those at Everlane for much less.

  8. The August 2014 catalog is up. I've also captured close-ups & all or most of the pricing info for women. For Crewcuts & men, I only captured wide shots of the catalog pages.

    1. Gigi - as always, you're a gem.

Very interesting - most of the stuff is pretty sloppy - oops, DRAPEY. Agreed completely with your commentary about office wear and structured clothes. My favorite thing might be that wedding dress shown with the black sash! (Don't tell my husband.)

    2. Thanks for posting, Gigi!

    3. cousy - It's very drasloppy. I like that wedding dress, too.

I never thought I'd miss ruffles so much.

    4. JSR - Thanks for normcore. Yeesh.

    5. Here's the deal - J Crew was always pretty good at the high/low look. That was a quality I always appreciated when well done. But the "normcore" thing has taken over at JC, which I find quite unfortunate. To me, high/low doesn't mean $300 ripped jeans and Adidas rubber sandals. I find those things embarrassing.

For all our discontent about the styles and the styling at J Crew right now, are other brands doing the same?

    6. cousy - I'm curious to see other retailers' offerings. BR offered great Marimekko goodies this summer. Some of their designs feel fresh, but a lot of it is the same old BR. Looking forward to what Marissa Webb will bring.. I think the peeps w/the pulse right now is Zara. Fresh, clean, stylish, flattering to the body & modern. They have some of the oversized styles, but there are many items that still fit closer to the body, not slouchy.

      Delete
    7. Gigi, I agree completely. BR would have my full attention once more as it did 15 years ago if they return to quality products. I still have camel wool pants and a matching sleveless top by BR, made in Italy and super soft, among other item beloved items for yesteryear. I hope Marisa convinces the top head to go back to better fabrics like silk, cotton and wool. Zara has caught my eye recently with their minimalist offerings. Alas, we don't have a Zara store anywhere near so it's strictly online ordering.

    8. Gotta agree about BR. It's very boring looking now. I hope Marissa brings something new and fresh! About that wedding dress...gorgeous! But seriously, that was the ONLY women's garment that didn't look insane to me. Sad!

    9. Thank you for taking the time to scan and upload the pix! I really appreciate it. The 2 stores I went to have the new catalogs locked up in Fort Knox. Not one SA was nice enough to give one to me! Geesh....Thanks for a nice Friday surprise. There were a few things that were classics but nothing I need to have. The locket jewelry from Monica Rich Kosann is super pricey! Almost as expensive as Tiffany's. Anyway, thank you again for the pix!

    10. Keeping the this months catalog in Fort Knox will be a good idea (after sseing GigI's upload). It is the worst one yet ! if I were Mickey....I would hide this one. Yes in my opinon...it is !

    11. @cmg - I recently sold some too small stuff from BR. It was a pity because it was from 4 or so years ago and quality is better than we're seeing now. Funny cuz we were starting to see it decline and who knew it would go even lower, as low as it has.

@Stray Cat - I'm hoping BR lays off the poly a bit. That will be a step in a good direction.

@Wendy - lol at Fort Knox. About the collab jewelry. That's exactly what I mean. I would just buy from Tiffany's for the entire experience if I'm going to pay that price.

      @Unknown - lol... lol

    12. The only thing that I really liked was the Maguire jeans, but not for $240!! And there's a good chance those front pockets would make those jeans look hideous on me. Thanks for taking the time to put it all up, Gigi!!

  9. Thanks for posting that, Gigi! Really appreciate the time it took you to do that;) You rock!

  10. Thanks Gigi!
This all pretty much looks like the clothes I wore (or wanted to wear) in the early 90s. I don't think I'm ready for the early 90s trends to return. Those Adidas frat boy shoes are a huge pass. I do like the Quilted Fatigue jacket but of course I already have a fatigue jacket as does everyone else that is a JCREW shopper.

@Cheri - I hear you on the jacket. I'm seeing the stuff repeated so often from J Crew that it really makes whatever version I already own look just fine. Although I'm really interested in the off-white quilted jacket. #crewlade

  12. Where us this collaboration jewellery that is mentioned above in the comments? I don't see it on their august '14 Pinterest page or anywhere else. I'm curious to see what people are referring to in their comments.

  13. Also, I agree that olden days BR was better than what most retailers are putting out there right now. I think Zara has great style now but I find the stores enormously unpleasant to shop in, crazy busy with clothes thrown everywhere and, at times, a bit low quality vs price depending on the item. I also have to leave my ego at the door with Zara and their non- vanity sizes, lol. I prefer being a jcrew 4 than what I am at Zara lol. But back to jcrew...I think I like that Collection Seamed Cashmere sweater as a break from hoodie cashmere sweaters. Maybe I'm just attracted to the colour. I'm wondering though, is there a bit of ombré going on there, or it it a combo of shadow and photoshop? It just looks darker in an area that is a direct hit with the camera.

    1. Sunny,

If you go to gigi's blog, she has the entire catalog uploaded. The pieces of 'Fine Jewelry' collab is towards the end of the pix. I don't think there are prices in print. That tells you something if the prices aren't for viewing. The only company I know of is Monica Rich Kosann's because Atlantic Pacific was gifted one of her locket's. It looked really pretty, so I looked it up online. The prices were in the $10-$20K price range for anything that is nice...so that's what I'm expecting from the collab with MRK's line.

I agree with you about shopping at ZARA. I went in yesterday and there was a huge sale! But I had to leave quickly since clothing was everything and people were going nuts to find the deals. Too overwhelming at times. They do have some clean lines and neutral colors. Did you see their version of the excursion vest? It's more rugged than the J Crew one, but still nice.

  17. I just saw the catalogue. Agree with what everyone is saying. Also too many cropped sweaters the feel a little 90's to me. I would have liked the white bib popover as a staple blouse, but that material! It looks like the model slept in it - can't wear that at work. I do like some of the shoes and ankle boots (especially the zip ones), but why didn't they shoe them a little more throughout the catalogue? Instead everything with those Adidas pool slides -or as we called them in my college dorm- shower shoes. Some of those shoes and boots are nowhere else in the catalogue. Makes no sense.

    1. ITA about the linen on the graphic tees being too see though. It makes them look so cheap and feel so flimsy and they don't look good worn with clothes. Note to JC: Your graphic tees from years past when you used nice substantial cotton rarely made it to bargain basement markdowns. I know I've complained about it before, but the graphic tees used to be a favorite thing of mine to purchase.

      Delete
    2. I agree, I like their prints but they're too sheer and no one wants to later in the middle of the summer with another top or camisole underneath just to cover up, seems to defeat the purpose of linen in the first place.

      Delete
    3. Agree also. The linen tees are completely see through and most of the lighter colored cotton blend tees are also sheer. My old graphic/embellished tees are not like this. Loft seems to be able to make linen tees that aren't sheer - I am wearing an ivory dotted one today and it does NOT require a cami underneath. J Crew, you'd be getting a lot more of my money if you would start making knits that are not sheer!
