Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  4. JC Factory has sent out their link to new arrivals to Factory First members. There are midrise toothpick jeans, excursion vests, the long-sleeve Peter Pan collar tee (still with exposed zip, OF COURSE), and their version of the swiss-dot Tippi. Also their version of last year's dot chiffon top in that pretty dublin green (in poly). If you missed out on something from last fall, there may be a good chance it has been resurrected for Factory.

    1. I saw some of the new factory arrivals in person yesterday, There is a french hen tee (meh). The swiss dot tippi is made of an AWFUL blend and the dots are huge. Ick. The factory version of the emmaleigh dress is made of the usual really fine wool that factory uses for some of their suiting dresses - I love it in the berry color. Didn't try it on but am sure it is too short.

Also saw black toothpick jeans. I personally think black jeans should never, ever come back into style. All I can think of are the old stonewashed ones people used to wear in the early 90s. YUCK.

Really liked the burgundy colored chinos for men.

    2. Yet again, no Factory first email. I have tried several times to get this fixed. So frustrating!

    3. Was really excited about the swiss dot top being re-issued. I regret passing it by last winter. Too bad it's poly and not silk like the original. No way I'm spending $75 on poly. Bummer.

  5. Finally found my Jules(ish) dress -- the slip-neck ponte dress at saturday.com. It's not cheap (colors on sale for $91, black still FP at $130 and B&W stripes at $140). But, it's more fitted thru the torso than the Jules, the stretchy cotton-nylon-elastane material is SO comfy, and it's machine washable. The XS is comparable to size 00 at JC.

    4. I also have to comment on the great customer service - they had to put me on hold for a few minutes (no big deal) and then the sales associate waved the shipping for having me wait!

    5. ashton, that store is my absolute favorite! it's a bit of a longer drive for me but it's always worth it. cannot say the same about the philadelphia store, worst customer service imaginable... i'm glad you got the dress!

  9. Ann Taylor has 40% purchase starting today (email says ENTIRE purchase not just sale) in-store and online. Hopefully someone took advantage of the 60% online Loft sale last night. Also, if anyone is looking for sz 14 café capris in white or natural, F. St/ WDC store had quite a few (and a at least one pair of the coral color- not sure if that is the correct color name).

  10. Lands' End is having 20% off all reduced/clearance styles right now. There is no code to share, but I was sent the link to the sale from my affiliate manager. From what I understand, today is an affiliate only coupon, which may be why there is no code for the sale. Anyhow, I placed the coupon in my sidebar (http://mysuperfluities.blogspot.com/) if there was a particular sale item you were waiting on a deeper discount to purchase.

If I find a code, I will update this comment. :)

  11. Boden fans, there are two things to report this week.

    1. This Sunday marks the end of the preview discount code, which is good for 20% off with free shipping and returns. I did a picks post this morning which has more info on the preview.

    2. The Boden end of season sale almost never has free shipping and yesterday Boden announced they would offer free shipping on all orders until tomorrow night at 11:59 pm. This is especially helpful if all you want in the sale is one item for under $100, since the $10 to ship anything during the sale period can negate any savings you may experience. I wrote more on this here at this post.

  13. Groopdealz - crystal compilation lookalike - $19.99

I was contacted by the vendor last week and she shared a couple of irl pics. They're similar to what you'll see online. She's shipping a sample to me, but I doubt I'll have it reviewed before the boutique ends. I wish I knew more about it, but this is it for now.

    1. Thank you for sharing, gigi! I already have the real clear one, but the aqua groopdealz one is really tempting. But the colors are way off from the "real thing". Hmmmm...

    1. Sadly, I shopped the pre-sale, and it's a huge disappointment this year. Their buyer really missed the mark IMO.

    2. Jruby18 - I agree. I don't know where Nordy buyers were this year. I only bought 2 things. Usually there are a ton of things I want. The catalog was a huge disappointment as well. I'll have reviews over the weekend.

    3. My teen daughter found some good items at reasonable price. I was able to purchase some items from petites: two pairs of my favorite jag jeans and a blouse. I made the day I purchased them my "triple points day" and I now have a gift certificate coming in the mail! I love how Nordstrom redeems reward points on a rolling basis.

    4. SE Mom - I wish the Jag would've worked for me. The denim prices are good.

  15. So after feeling "meh" over Jcrew lately, I decided to purchase an item (leather jacket) from Marissa Webb's spring collection, which has been on sale at Barney's and her site. Barney's prices are much better (70% off) but the sizing and inventory went fast, I luckily got something in my size before it sold out. I'm not the type to drop several hundred on ONE clothing item (well, on anything really!), so I'm still debating on whether or not I'm keeping it. However, the leather is so soft and the lining is 100% silk. From what I browsed, practically all her items are silk and/or silk lined, aka quality pieces. Sizing runs small... go up 1 size or even 2 if you're curvy. If I keep this, I basically won't shop Jcrew (or elsewhere) for a few months, which is totally fine by me! I really like her fall collection too, so I might do the same later for 1 fall piece. Trading quality for quantity.

  16. Nordstrom - Review of a Halogen top. It comes in regular & petite, $29.90. I like the neckline.
