We were one of the first to check out the newly-opened J.Crew Mens Shop this morning, and as with all things J.Crew lately, we've got plenty of good things to say.
Much like the recently opened bridal shop, the two-floor space feels much more boutique than big brand. The decor is lodge-like in a stylish, man-cave way: minimalist, distressed leather chairs in the fitting rooms, display tables appointed with arrow bows and "Field Notes" journals, and unpolished hardwoods throughout.
Design director Frank Muytjens was kind enough to personally walk us through the collection of hand-picked books on topics ranging from Big Sur Bakery recipes to Factory Records co-founder and visual artist Peter Saville.
Upstairs, shop sweaters, cashmere PJs, jackets, handkerchiefs and scarves, and proper-looking luggage. Downstairs is home to a suiting display, shoe vignette, and a bevy of outerwear options. Footwear by English label Crocket and Jones (a store exclusive), Quoddy moccasins, Sperrys, and J.Crew's ever-popular McAlister suede boots are all up for grabs, too.
And die-hard J.Crew store shoppers are gonna love this: The brand's signature "red phone" has been upgraded to an iPad, so fitting room associates can literally order a missing size without leaving your side.
Gentlemen, your wardrobes are in for a treat.
Really too bad I missed the store opening. I was in NY in July, hopefully someone will post a review and some pictures.
ReplyDeleteJCrew Guy In Canada: I just updated the post with a review from NBC New York's the Thread. The store looks amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis, much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI am headed to New York in a few weeks. Can anyone confirm how many Men's Shops there are? I know about this one on the Upper East Side. Is the one at 484 Broadway still operational? Any others? What is the difference between the stores?
