J.Crew Spotted in Oprah Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about two J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of Oprah Magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The page on the left features the always classic Cashmere Shell (Item 19243; $90.00) in Heather Plum. Absolutely stunning!

The page on the right features a studded cardigan, also known as the Merino Silvana Cardigan (Item 29004; $148.00). Normally, I wouldn't give the cardigan a second look with all those studs in the front (it kind of looks like a piece of armor!) ;) However, the rich olive color and the impeccable styling in the image makes me want to give it a try. (Doesn't the model look absolutely lovely in her outfit!?!) :)

What are your thoughts on the cardigan featured? Do you like the style with all its shimmering paillettes? If so, please share! :)

  1. I think the ladies look fabulous, polished, grown up... you get the idea. Have they styled the shoot Mad-style? The colour combos are very retro, in a very good way.

  2. This from the rarely-a-nay-sayer me but I think that first color combo looks like she got dressed in the dark. I love the plum JC shell but IRL it is quite muted and with the non-cashmere, different-gage teal cardigan and then the royal blue and black plaid??? perhaps just the lighting of the photograph or the way it printed and then scanned or maybe my screen needs calibrating but those colors make me wince.

  3. I agree with Gem Twin. And a crewneck is not the most universally flattering neckline to begin with. I think a pretty blouse or cami would have looked better and more up to date. On the other hand, she was about 100x better in the after than the before.

  4. The studded sweater on the right caught my eye when I saw it in the magazine ...and it's beautiful IRL, too. They have these at the JC at the Domain in Austin for $148(?).

  5. My first thought when I saw these pics was, these photos do NOT make me want to buy the clothes. They are very matronly to me. Not to say everyone should wear 3 shirts, 4 necklaces and pantaloons, but this swings way too far in the other directon to me.

Of course, it probably suits the magazine's demographic and the styling looks age-appropriate for the women wearing the clothes, so good for them. But the photos to me look dated and frumpy. *hides*

  6. Well, call me dated and frumpy, but I'm always happy to see some work appropriate styling rather than a super short sequined mini layered with a dozen shirts, a ratty fur scarf and "sky high heels." I love the clothes. The color combinations, not so much. And I love JC cashmere shells. I have a big stack of them purchased on FS a couple years ago.

  8. That would be why, Jeanne, I specifically prefaced that comment by saying I don't expect everyone to dress like the nutty styling in the catalog. And why I said the styling was age-appropriate for the women featured.

I'm happy there's room for all opinions here on this blog. We can't all like everything all the time, and what a boring place it would be if we did.

I'd also like to point out that I said I found the *photos* to look dated and frumpy. I don't think they do anything at all for the women or the clothes, TBH.

  9. I purchased the Merino Silvana Cardigan in Bronzed Twig. It is one of the few items that I purchased in this new roll out. I plan to wear it with a black pencil skirt.
