Men's Department at J. Crew on Elm Street is ClosedIt's too bad the men's department shut down without any word. However, I am thrilled. Muh ha ha ha. ;) That store is t-i-n-y. And as a lady, and frequent shopper of that location, I am hoping that section of the store will be devoted to more lovely women items. I would love it if they got a decent shoe department. Hint hint! :)

Without notice or fanfare, the men's department at J.Crew on Elm St. closed on Saturday, August 14. No definitive explanation was given for the closing.
J.Crew employees are not permitted to speak to media and directed questions to a corporate spokeswoman, who could not be reached for comment today.
The steps leading to the downstairs men's department were blocked by a rope and cartons of menswear packed and ready to be shipped back to J. Crew.
Surprised customers were offered apologies, but no clear reason for the decision to close the department. One sales associate was overheard telling a customer that the space "might be turned into a bridal department or a shoe department". Another was heard speculating that there "might be plans for a stand-alone men's store in town".
J.Crew has two locations in New Canaan. The main store, which included the men's department, is located at 24 Elm Street. A children's store, CrewCuts, is located at One Elm Street.

It's odd they are taking the men's section away from some of the b&m's. At the Towson MD location they did away the men's section to make room for more merchandise to make Towson a 'premium' store. I recall someone else posted the same thing about their local store.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they'll open a stand alone men's store at another location. That seems to be the way they're going.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a tough sell having a standalone men's store pretty much anywhere outside a major metro area like New York. New Canaan is a wealthy area, and the men who live there just aren't likely to gravitate to a mass retailer. This particular store would do much better as a women's-only store, or a more traditional 70/30 women/men assortment. JMO.
ReplyDeleteAt least this whole store did not close down.
ReplyDeleteA small B&M near by closed down few months ago. Manager later told me that they weren't making enough 'Full Price' sales. I was heart broken my closest store closed down. Now I have to drive 20 miles one way to get to one.
