The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Mongolian Lamb Stole (Item 31393; $98.00). J.Crew describes this accessory as:
Instant glamour. This stunning stole is crafted in gorgeous curly Mongolian lamb that's been finished at a famed French mill (it's incredibly soft and cozy with an amazing texture). Grosgrain ribbon tie. Fully lined in silk. Part of the J.Crew Collection. Import. Dry clean. 19"L x 3 1/4"W.What is interesting is that the J.Crew Collection LookBook states the item is not available until September. However, the item is ready to purchase from the link above.
I know I have said this about twenty times already, but it is too hot outside to think about Fall! I also seriously doubt Jenna is wearing hers right now too (as she suggests in the email). ;)
On a bright note, it does mean more new arrivals are just around the corner! :)
What are your thoughts on the Exhibitor Mongolian Lamb Stole? Do you like the accessory? Will you order it?
Not my style at all.
ReplyDeleteNot my style either. I think this is Jenna-overexposed. I love her, but from a Jcrew perspective, they should focus more on the brand rather than a person.
ReplyDeleteI'm a visual person. I would have liked to see it styled.
ReplyDeleteStrangely attracted to this-and horrified that I am! I pictured myself sporting this and realized I'd look ridiculous;)
ReplyDeleteAwful...
ReplyDeleteThere is not enough Crewlade in the world to make me want this.
When I opened this, I just started laughing. Enough said.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather not have anything to wear than wear that.
ReplyDeleteNot my style. There are many other great accessories-shoes, belts, scarves and jewels to focus on at JC already this fall. Perhaps a very creative blogger will photo some styling ideas...good luck!
ReplyDeleteI wish the attached pic showed Jenna wearing it for reference. It reminds me of Penny Lane in Almost Famous.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I have a long-haired cat on my shoulder - pass.
ReplyDeleteI love this as a scarf for winter. It will look fabulous peeking out of a wool coat like my dark purple Lady Day or black Boulevard trench, and it will be so warm and cozy. I can see myself keeping it on indoors if I'm wearing a dressy light top or LBD.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of shearling because it is so cold here in Canada for a girl originally from the southern U.S. I don't think I could pull off the full Mongolian Lamb vest but thee stole is a definite must-have for me.
Looks like something my cat dragged in... sorry!
ReplyDeleteAnother 'no' for me. I am seriously wondering what on earth will be in store for us during the 2nd fall rollout and maybe into winter! lol
ReplyDeleteIt looks like fun, I adore sheep things (am a knitter), and I ordered it. Loved xoxo's styling ideas.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the comments from one of Jenna's old interviews. She described how her eclectic way of dressing was often made fun of in California, but appreciated and fit in when she moved to New York. There's room for us all, styling in our own ways.
As JL says it could be a versatile way to add texture but I am not sure how it works--need to see more photos of it styled. The pre-order shot makes it look like it is falling off her shoulder. Seems like it might be better a bit larger though.
ReplyDeleteHow many Mongolian lambs died for this silly fashion trend?
ReplyDeleteIt's not for me, but I do like her skirt. Anyone know what it is?
ReplyDeleteWell I guess I am in the minority with xoxo and The Professor: I love it! I hope I haven't bit the nut, but I can see it over a vintage black dress with a wide boatneck that I already own, and it could be worn around the neck in winter for nights out, a dressier alternative to a scarf.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get it I'll do some styling on my blog!
I'm sorry that Jenna felt her personal style was laughed at in Cal., but if she thinks it's appreciated and fits In in NY, perhaps she is mistaking good manners and tolerance for admiration. NY has many people whose style is eccentric, daring, or just plain unfortunate, but a New Yorker learns very early not to lAugh at them. And also learns that you can get away with almost everything if you are tall and thin and have good posture. As Jenna's stuff goes this is not terrible, although not for me. I am getting a little bored with her, would like to learn more about the merch.
ReplyDeleteit looks... like the hapless model is being attacked by a furry thing that pounced on her shoulder. she turned away at the last minute to avoid hannibal kitty eating her face!!
ReplyDeleteok, i got carried away. i do like xoxo's idea of wearing it as a scarf in a modern, dr. zhivago-esque way. i think.
in other news, jenna looks so lovely in that picture. love the whole look.
Definitely not my style. And perhaps it's just me being a bit grumpy, but I find I'm annoyed by promo emails which feign to know me and "chat" like a friend and insider, but are clearly mass emails written not by the supposed author but by the marketing department. They're certainly not effective sales tools when I'm the target.
ReplyDeleteITA, Silver Lining -- it's totally Penny Lane.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'll reserve my judgement until I see it styled properly. I suspect it will be one of those quirky items that other (younger, hipper) JCAs can rock, but I sadly cannot.
Calling it a stole seems a stretch. It is awfully small. And awful
ReplyDeleteLooks like something my cat hocked up!
Irrespective of the item itself, the styling is indicative of how drunk j.crew is on its own Kool-Aid (flavor mixed with water straight from the Euphrates river in ancient Mesopotamian jug): Shorts, belly button on display, plaid shirt, woolen vest and then a stole placed only slightly less stupidly than if it'd be tied as a diaper. No wonder the girl turned her head; she must be mortified. How about showing it in a way that would make people think, "oh, how charming."
ReplyDeleteOn another note, does anyone have a free shipping code for anthropologie? TIA.
And this is why I love this forum/blog... On first glance I'm with most of you ("it's a cat/a furball/dead sheep thing") but after reading XOXO's and Professor's comments, I'm inclined to see it styled a la Dr. Zhivago for cold weather.
ReplyDeleteI think I know why I'm sitting on the fence for this one: the town where I work in (and live 10 days out of every 14) has super cold winters and this piece would be suited for the climate. In the other town where I live (the other 4 days) I'd be certified and thrown into a padded cell if I paraded out and about in it.
Have to see it styled IRL with a coat or a cashmere twin set, with pearls, pencil skirt..the whole get up. It seems quite old-Hollywood glam to me.
DaniBP:
ReplyDeleteI am right there you...I would love to doll up the white version in a very retro way with a classic sheath dress. Add to that a beret and a chic pair of heels, and I would feel ready to go to a fab dinner with my hubby.
:)
But I do respect the opinions of those of you who see it more as a cat toy--LOL.
I wear leather, but I choose not to wear fur. Not too consistent, perhaps, but it's where I've decided to draw the line. Even if it were fake fur, the vibe is too hippie-bobo for me--might be cute for a Penny Lane type, as others have pointed out.
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like I'm definitely dropped from the preferred customer list, LoL.
New markdowns at B&M:
ReplyDeleteIsland paisley perfect shirt (28026 ) - $49.99
Pilar paisley perfect shirt (28686) - $49.99
Premium stretch bistro pant (99809) - $59.99
Jackie cardigan (29350) - $39.99 (I believe the colors were soft seashell and melon only)
Lace ruffle tank (30966) - $24.99
Shimmer crinkle shell (28437) - I think this was $29.99
Zip-side sweatshirt (already, I know!) (29438) - $39.99
Hope this helps someone - I wonder if these will also be reflected in tomorrow's update.
Whoops, the zip-side sweatshirt markdown was dark cloud only.
ReplyDeletedisgusting. so turned off by jenna's overt obsession with fur (& leather).
ReplyDeleteLa Belle Helene: If you have an "ANTHRO" card (not credit card...it's the shopper card), you get free shipping through (I think) Sept. You just need to make sure your online sign in is linked with the card. It's worked for me several times. Maybe you can sign up for the card online if you don't already have one.
ReplyDeleteAnd...I've got one of these "stoles," it came with a Tosca cardi a few years ago. I have to say that I love it. I get all kinds of compliments. I also use it as a scarf over coat. It's weird, yes, and it looks like a mangy cat, yet, but somehow with the right outfit and the right attitude, it totally works.
Thanks for the tip, Rebecca.
ReplyDeleteIt's no different than giving my bichon frise a piggy back ride. A lot cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI saw a similar item in Talbot's lookbook (page 15, for reference, though it's featured several times), and I thought it was really nice and workable. This one, not so much, which is at least in part due to the styling. Apparently, it always goes back to the styling with the Crew. ::sigh::
ReplyDeleteI have a similar stole in white fox that looks darling over a coat. It changes the look easily and is oh so warm. I like this...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sale update silver_lining! I can't believe the Pilar Paisley is already on sale. Will have to stop by the store tomorrow and try it on. Was it still final sale in the store?
ReplyDeleteI am not against the concept but personally I don't like the fuzzyness of the mongolian lamb, so I am not going to buy this one.
ReplyDeleteBut I think that if they sell it for that price it must be super small. Maybe that's the reason of the wacky styling: they couldn't wrap it around the model's neck and they threw it on her shoulder.
More seriously this kind of pieces need another kind of styling to sell
Heather, ITA about the fur collar from Talbots. I wouldn't wear it due to my personal preferences regarding fur, but I agree that it is more chic and more effectively styled.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tastymoog, thumbs down to fur.
ReplyDeletesilver_lining - Thanks for the good info!
ReplyDeleteHi shopalot - no more final sale (yay!)or extra 30% (aww!)in the store.
ReplyDeleteIt's too.....hairy. **shudder**!
ReplyDeleteChristy, that comment is hysterical!!! ;)
ReplyDelete^Ahhh--hilarious and so true!
ReplyDeleteI thought no lambs were slaughtered for this. Don't they just shave the lamb, not actually kill it? It makes no financial sense to kill a perfectly good lamb that'll grow more wool next season.
ReplyDeleteI've been stalking the stole in black on ebay. Might pick one up myself. But I think the white looks too much like a rug. =)
