Preface: A big "thanks!" to Cass (in this post) who suggested a "weekly 'Did you try on/receive any JC items this week?' post where we could all "deposit" our reviews for various items". I think it is a brilliant idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)
This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
Ultra Knit Zip Hoodie (20833): In case anyone thought that the item would be the same from the spring (it is the same item number), it is not. The super soft material is the same, however, the fit is slightly different. Since the picture actually looked different, I called CS and they informed me the item was "exactly the same." It arrived and there is only one zipper so if you liked the double zipper, you (and I) are out of luck. However, the Fall hoodie seems to have slightly more give in the hip area which made up for the zipper issue slightly for me. BTW, I called when I received the hoodie on Friday and the second CS person had no idea it was different either.
ReplyDeleteVintage Cotton V Neck (24500): I received the frosty mint - a beautiful color, though sheer, and probably better for spring. The spicy russet is more of a cross of Orange/Red than the picture shows but I think its still a great fall color. The fern color looks pretty consistent with the pics online. My only concern is the material's thinness. I didn't recall the spring version being quite this thin but I think I will keep them and just be REALLY careful :) Oh and I sized down so I could have a more fitted look.
can somebody comment on the fashion night out tee that already sold out(its gone from the website).
ReplyDeletei preordered it,but now am wondering about the size(it started with a small) and the quality(since it was only $25).
TIA
Wish I could review the coat that's in theseptember bazaar (page 177) I gave up on the coats I liked from the lookbook coming out and went and bought something else. This camel and faux fur number looks really nice.maybe it will turn up in the october offerings?

ReplyDeleteGrrr...This is off-topic but I'm sick of the lack of real free shipping offers. I only want one item, it's 40 dollars and I'm still paying 8.50 in shipping for it. For a sweater that ways less than a pound? Seriously J. Crew? I haven't bought from the Crew in months and now I know why. Oh, and the item I want? It's to replace one that got ruined in the wash! J. Crew just saved me money. I'm sad I don't have the item anymore because I loved it but I can't afford disposable clothing.
ReplyDeleteNomoneyfun, I feel your pain. My silk pockets linen cardigan has not yet been washed, worn a few times, and two places on the arm have unwoven into holes. Nice. A few days ago, someone on here was willing to share how to find "hidden" sale items. She left her email. I copied it, and then forgot to send the email! Alzheimers. Whoever you were, would you be willing to list your email again? I went back trying to find the post, but can't. Thanks!

ReplyDeletesomehow I seem to alway need to sub twice...
ReplyDeleteI tried the Arrow Sweatercoat in the charcoal color. I had no intention of buying it but once I put it on I didn't want to let it go. It is a very thick, beautifully woven knit and will be heavy enough for a jacket during the fall and great for a sweater when our New England winter hits. I am usually an XS but I sized up to an S so that I could wear thinner merino sweaters underneath if I use this as a jacket. A very great item, and the quality is there. Highly recommend.
ReplyDeleteAlso received the vintage trouser cords in shadow. I ordered a 6P and they fit perfectly in the length. Very soft and comfortable.
The dream open shawl collar cardi also arrived and it is fantastic. I love the heather espresso color and I cannot wait to wear it. I hope that the pilling isn't too bad, as the dream sweaters are known for it.
Received two boxes yesterday:
ReplyDeletePippi top was not flattering on me, very boxy and the sleeves stood out just like those ones Joan Jetson used to wear. Dark rosewood color was beautiful.
Got both colors of the Shimmer Crinkle Shell. LOVE. Fits TTS to somewhat big.
Perfect Fit Mixed Tape Cardi-LOVE LOVE LOVE. Got this in bronzed twig and dark rosewood.
Sequin-strip Tank in Ivory. Fit and feel are incredible. TTS. LOVE.
Katzy cami - really liked this one. Warm taupe color has some nice pink undertones that work well with my coloring, TTS, no side zip (weee!) and silk crepe de chine is "squishy"...I liked the feel of it (but it is unlined - even though the description states otherwise). However, the price ($128) is just too high for me. Return - pick up on sale.
ReplyDeleteArrow sweater jacket - also really liked this one. Nice and thick, heather elm color is beautiful for fall, and the dramatic collar is cute. I'd say also TTS with enough room for a long-sleeve shirt underneath. However, there was a skipped stich on the seam that was noticeable and looked like a hole. Boo! Return.
Subscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteLia: Can you describe the shadow color? Is it more a gray, or more purple?
ReplyDeletejcrewjunkie, I've been eyeing the mix-tape cardigan in those same two colors. Is the cardigan made out of the perfect-fit t-shirt material? How long are they?
ReplyDeletesilver lining, I got the Katzy cami and had the exact same reaction. I was really disappointed to find it wasn't lined. I liked it a lot but agree - I sent it back and will re-order when it goes on sale with an extra percent off (so next week or so).
I also received the 1035 Super 120s trousers in black and found they didn't fit well- too baggy in the thighs and too long for me. I suppose I could get them tailored, but for that much money I'd like them to just fit. I prefer trousers from the Limited - better fit and their studio 400 wool is superior to J Crew's 120 in my opinion. Comfier, softer, looks and feels better quality (and for less than half the price).
AppGal - it has a slight purple undertone but they are definitely gray/very neutral. Highly recommend them! Hope that helps :)
ReplyDeleteLast night in my B&M I picked up the bayberry washed wool scarf in the new colorway, vintage wisteria (although it has more red/orange tones than wisteria). I think it's perfect for fall. I didn't think the new colorway was available online, but it is - Item 19316.
ReplyDeleteOn a lark, I also tried on the Pixie pant, never expecting it to work. Well, the inseam was perfect, and I was shocked since I must wear long inseams being 6 feet tall. Then I discovered that the "new" pixie pant comes in an updated 30 inch inseam, which is a perfect ankle length on me. The pixie fits like I thought the Minnie would - slim and lean, with thick fabric. These pants are very comfortable and I think would look great with flats or heels. I first tried color "surplus" but ended up purchasing them in black.
Recently online I also purchased two vintage cotton tops - the short sleeve henley (Item 29365) in bright guava and the three-quarter sleeve scoopneck in spicy russet (Item 29815). The fabric is very soft and doesn't seem overly thin to me. The bright guava color is a lovely pink/coral, and the spicy russet is a reddish orange. Both of these tops fit long (hit at low hip on me, and I'm tall) and loose-but-not-too-loose in the torso.
Another recent purchase is the madras boyfriend shorts (Item 25575) - I bought my size but they fit slightly large. I figured the fabric would shrink in the washer/dryer. They're very comfortable but require a belt or they'd fall off of me. I'm not so sure about the construction of these shorts - seems kind of flimsy. I got them on sale, though. I wouldn't have paid full price.
Any news on the (apparently) in-store only velvet bell skirt (29086)? Colors? Fit-is it too short for words? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAny news on the (apparently) in-store only velvet bell skirt (29086)? Colors? Fit-is it too short for words? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFoxtail orchid cardigan: picked up in store and tried on over shirt, but when I tried it on at home I decided to take it back. I am having probs with the merino since last spring being itchier than it used to be (my old JC merinos still don't make me itch, so I think they must be using cheaper yarn). Also, I need XL in the cardigans to fit my chest/shoulders, but the arms are way too baggy. I know some XS ladies have said the cardi sleeves are too tight. I think their sleeve sizing is just way off--they think XS should be twig arms and XL should be elephant arms.
ReplyDeleteSilk and sequin scoopneck tee: size down one full size. I liked this but it's a bit too pricey right now for something with limited wearability. I also wish it came in more appealing colors. But I plan to pick this up if/when it goes on sale for a decent markdown.
Sasha peacoat: Sigh, I had such high hopes for this one. It looked utterly gorgeous in that baked squash color. I tried it on in my usual size for coats and jackets, and it immediately felt too big and boxy. So definitely size down. Unfortunately once you size down, the shoulders become tighter; although, the body of the coat itself still has significant space inside. With the epaulets and the collar (especially with the left collar which tucks underneath when you close the coat), there is significant bulk added onto that area. It is by no means a fitted jacket/coat; it sits loose on the hip - much space. And for someone who is "hip-py", that's saying a lot. :p
ReplyDeleteSequined jersey bloomers: Yes, I tried this on, with the coaxing of a very sweet PS - it's so different that I should dare try it on! I actually thought these were pretty cute. They were TTS, but the shorter inseam may be deemed uncomfortable for the taller ladies (3 1/2). The PS suggested it be worn with black tights and a longer sweater; the black tights would make it look like I had a little, sequined mini on. :)
Drea dress: For the naysayers, give this dress a try! I found it to be quite flattering. I think it's the darker panels of fabric on the side of the dress that do the trick. It's TTS (to size down) and not itchy, although it my look like it. You may choose to go TTS for a looser tunic-like look, or you may choose to size down for a more fitted look. Being a wee one (5' tall), I can probably get away with wearing this as a dress (it comes a little below mid-thigh with the tie belt a little looser). Or with tights/leggings, if I chose to tighten the tie belt and thus make the dress shorter. One of the PSs suggested that I can actually take out the tie belt and replace it with another one to snazz it up a bit. ;)

ReplyDeletemommydearest: The velvet skirt is in store only (at least for now) and comes in a dark grey and a mauvey color. See it here on Audrebella: http://audreybella.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-promised-boy-lunch-but-ended-up.html
ReplyDeleteMy store only had the mauvish color but the sa called and was told it also comes in the dark grey color. Looks like it fits the same as the wool bell skirt, short if worn around the waist, but a little longer at hips, especially with tights.
I also bought the Arrow sweater in Charcoal, and I love it. It is thick and wonderful for Fall. I am usually an XS but I sized up to a S so I can use it as a jacket. It is thick and well made. I may even buy another one. The price is reasonable for a sweater that is 100% merino wool.
ReplyDeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteI ordered the dream shawl cardigan (29009) and the button fell off while I was trying it on. Nothing special about this sweater..and it has a high nylon content. return.
Also ordered the tie front cardigan (30101) and really like it. Marled pullover hoodie (30671) not sure about...it may go back.
Any reviews of the Crosstown Peeptoe shoes?

ReplyDeleteAll I want is a French graphic t with no mistakes in the French!!!
ReplyDeleteCorry, yes, reminded of the awful t's sold by street vendors the world around, with goofy Franglish or other non-language extolling non-places or non-events: Vatican University Junior Year Abroad Prom 1958 Elvis concert at Angkor Wat...
ReplyDeleteMy best French t had no graphics, just one line of numbers: the latitude/longitude of Paris. I still have it; got it in 1998 at Target.
Does anyone have chinos in the "fatigue" color? It looks khaki tan in the favorite-fit chinos and olive green in the original-fit chinos. I'd love to order them if they're green, but I already have plenty khaki chinos.
ReplyDeleteA long overdue comment about the premium stretch bistro pants, item 99809: mine shrunk a LOT (2 inches?) in length when they were washed and dried in the dryer. For me, it was a good thing because I was planning to hem them and the length was perfect after a trip through the wash. If you don't want them to shrink, I'd recommend dry clearning or cold water and hang to dry. I do love these pants though. They're flattering and very comfortable and they don't bag out during wear like some stretchy pants.
ReplyDeleteWhoops. Typo. Make that "dry cleaning."
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, wellfedfred, exactly. Thank you for expressing with your usual aplomb the cringe-worthy equivalents of JC's continual faux-pas in this area. In our transnational world, it's not that hard to get these things right. Barring help from Jenna (although at this point I'm questioning the quality of her "French" high school experience), Jenna's husband, or someone in corporate who is a native/has near-native fluency, isn't there a French restaurant or cafe around the corner from corporate in Manhattan where they could find someone to proof the text???
ReplyDeleteI used to have some real doozy examples from Europe, including a particularly funny one with all sorts of mistakes featuring the "F" word. I used to wear it as pjs and once ran out to the grocery store in it. I had no idea why a grandmotherish lady was looking at me with such shock until I looked down at my shirt and realized what I was wearing! :)

ReplyDeleteReviewed the beaten twill popover in this post. It's already on sale. Craziness.
ReplyDeleteGood info on the poor French grammar. I would never know. Still working on English and I blame Dan Quayle for messing me up with potato. Asymmetrical...Dina G?
ReplyDeleteWanted to mention that I went Crewsin' at lunchtime and was surprised to see the striped bateau tee available in different colors for fall! I tried on and bought the navy and the dark green stripe (don't know color names offhand).
ReplyDeleteThe cut of these is slimmer than the first round was, so definitely more TTS than its predecessors ... but a word of warning: the arms are cut very narrow. I have a small frame and fairly small arms and I noticed the sleeves felt a bit tight. I figured the whole tee would stretch our over time, though. I'll be curious to see if others also think the sleeves are cut slimmer than the rest of the top.
I was mad that the price has now been jacked from $36 to $42.50, but it didn't stop me from buying both. I knew they'd sell out ASAP, so why do that to myself?
Gigi, I ordered the Beaten Twill popover and I agree with you, it's really cute when you size down.
ReplyDeleteJeanne-
ReplyDeleteI received the 'fatigue' color chinos yesterday. Yes, they are greenish like the green you would find in what the military would wear.
HTH!
@Elaine: I love me a striped shirt and was going to jump on the Vintage Bateau tee till I saw the price hike. Did the SA's have any explanation? Have you noticed if the construction or fiber content has been upgraded?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteGigi: Hee, hee. :)
ReplyDeleteIn re: silly language mistakes on tees, I have a tee from Japan that is written in the most ridiculous English I have ever seen. I bought it because I loved it...and still drag it out from time to time. I definitely like how it can lift my mood just by reading the text.
I just had an amazing time going back and forth with a customer service/personal shopper for J. Crew. Long story, short: I bought something in the 30% off sale, the item was then canceled, I figured oh, well, no harm, no foul. Then I receive an e-mail from this awesome rep apologizing profusely for the snafu in my order and seeing if she could work with me to get another option...eventually we came to a great compromise and I have to say I am thrilled. :) I know that sometimes the customer service is off, but I know that there are definitely still a lot of shiny apples over there at jcrew.com. Hope others have a similar experience to me.
One shout-out for the reviews...the heathered nordic blue v-neck dream cardigan is amazing. Full stop. I know it might pill but the combo of color, softness, and fit make it worth my while to keep the fabric shaver around...I bought it in a small and it fits nicely, could have sized down, but won't.
Dina-
ReplyDeleteI'm going the rounds about ordering the shawl-collar dream cardigan because (a) I love it but (b) I had enough pilling with the fabric last year. Does the fabric seem any different to you? living in hope...
Oh, Kris...I wish I could help you. I didn't get any dream fabric last year as I was really put off by the stuff from 2007. But that nordic blue color? YUM!
ReplyDeleteIt does feel lighter...but I don't know if that will make a difference.
Does anyone have any dream sweaters from last year and this year and can compare??? :)
Elaine - thanks for the info about the vintage bateau tops. Did you size up?
ReplyDeleteOh, sigh: Ordered the Donegal tweed pencil skirt in moss... when I opened the package (side note: Does my dear guy in brown think "hiding" my package by placing it under the door mat, which makes the door mat stand upright, fools anybody?) I thought at first j.crew had sent me the grey color by mistake. It's a very, very muted green - really wish it had more depth to it. Don't think I'll be keeping it. Disappointed, as I thought this would be a go-to skirt for me come autumn.
ReplyDeleteI just got the Alpaca Long Cardigan ($118) in heather umber. It's beautiful. Very soft and flattering. Completely worth the money.
ReplyDeleteI also tried on the Lumiere ruffle cardigan ($89.50) in coal. It looks flimsy in the photo online, but in real life it looks more substantial and I liked it a lot. Might get it if it gets on sale.
Heather traversa cardigan (29599) - looks darker than on the site, more black than charcoal. There are metallic threads in it, but they aren't overly shiny. The knit is more substantial than the usual sweaters, maybe because it is 12 gauge? Anyway, it's TTS, and I thought the crisscross ruffles were cute and flattering. Could totally see this one on the fabulous Chloe!
ReplyDeleteFabric content is as follows:
38% Poly
29% Nylon
26% Baby Alpaca
7% Merino Wool
I will wait for sale on this one, because I think that it will inevitably go there (and given the 67% synthetic content), but looks like it will be cute for the holidays.
@Corry--what is the french mistake on the t-shirt? I am just curious because I took quite a bit of french in high school and college and think that kind of thing is hilarious. And isn't Jenna's husband french??
ReplyDeleteI'm receiving a few things today and will review later. I purchased the Paisley Palermo underwire top and side tie hipster last Monday (3 days before the swim/summer wear promo) and email customer service to find out if I could get the promo applied. They responded right back saying the applied the sale price to my order and credited my J Crew card the difference. I was very impressed and happy with the customer service since I know a lot of you have had bad experience. Perhaps this is my my "one time" and the next time I ask they'll say no.
I'm also getting the Coralie cami which I have lusted after on-line but have been surprised how all the colors are still available in all the sizes in the final sale section. Anyone had a bad experience with this piece? If I like it, I may get it in another color.
Have the Seth, Herringbone and Tomboy plaid shirts. They fit the same, slightly oversized, but are cute if you size down. I think the Herringbone plaid is the best and the Tomboy and Seth are tied. The Seth smells funny. The Tomboy online has a darker plum than the ones in the store and for that, I'm glad. They all look good with cargoes and heels or wedge boots and a sparkly necklace.
ReplyDeleteThe tight-armed cashmere issue is real. I usually buy several colors in cashmere each year but I think I will stick with the two colors I have, the cobblestone in the crewneck and the heather plum in the Cody. The colors are yummy as always but the arms are just a bit tight.
Sub :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if this is old news but the Fug Girls have a post up about Malin Ackerman wearing a dress they feel "they've seen before but can't remember where". I say the Final Sale section at J Crew??
ReplyDeletehttp://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2010/08/well_played_malin_akerman0824.html
Obviously part of that Romantics tie-in right? She does look adorable, have to admit.
ordered mixed-tape perfect fit cardigan in navy, sandy brown, bronzed twig and rosewood. received black instead of navy. love the material, it's not very lightweight cotton with some stretch. love the contrast with the 'mixed-tape' grosgrain. love the length, hits me just below the hip. looks good unbuttoned, too. it's certainly a 'perfect' fit cardigan. colors are actually lighter in real life than pictured online. i wish they made more colors. best cotton cardigan quality for casual wear in a long time. i got them during the extra 30% on top of the 20% off knits and tees sale couple weeks ago. got 'em for 27 each. it's a steal!
ReplyDeleteOT, but the New York Times just wrote an article on how Nordstrom's now lets you look online to search for an item across stores and the Web warehouses, and how they're crediting this as one of several moves that have boosted sales. Knowing how hard it is to do a WWFIFY at J. Crew, let alone search for an item that's sold out online and in your B&M, I don't know if J. Crew would be able to do this anytime soon, but wouldn't it be nice if it could?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone purchased the Brompton hobo? I have been eying this bag ever since it came out. I have too many purses already so don't know if I can justify the $298 price tag, but i just LOOOVE it.
ReplyDeleteAny comments on the size/quality/color (I'm leaning towards henna) would be much appreciated!
Kathleen:
ReplyDeleteMy store at Tyson's had nearly 2 full racks of them a few weeks ago, all in the henna color. I've had my eye on the bag too :\ Unfortunately, I have not seen the other 2 colors. Personally, I love the henna color; it's a rich cognac color, and the leather is supple and thick. The bag itself is HUGE. I'm 5'1" and though I'm on the curvier side, it still looks a bit ridiculous on my shoulder/fore-arm. Would that stop me from buying it on sale? No :P *sheepishly* I'm sure it would hold my macbook and a change of clothes easily. On a side-note, I remember it feeling on the lighter side... probably a good thing, if you intend to carry your a.) dog, b.) bowling ball, c.) kitchen sink.
:D
haha, thanks Chrissy! I'm in the Tysons area too so maybe I'll head over there and check it out. But sounds like I'm going to [patiently] wait for this one to go on sale. siiiighhhh
ReplyDeleteeggytarty, how did you manage to get an extra 30 off the promo cardigans?! I asked before but didn't get a reply, so I'd appreciate it if you could chime in - are the mixed-tape cardigans the same material as the perfect-fit tees?
ReplyDeletePurchased Herringbone Minnie pant (Item 28471). Pros: the fit (more relaxed than the twill Minnie through the waist and hips) and the color (called "Espresso" -- a nice brown herringbone that will go with a lot of items in my wardrobe). Con: not lined (may prove to be too much of an itchy bother).
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of minnies, has anyone tried on the bi-stretch wool minnies yet? I'm curious about the green ones, which may or may not turn out to be a total disaster. How's the fit compared to the twill ones?
ReplyDeleteTIA!
Kathleen-
ReplyDeleteI ordered the brompton hobo in henna and returned it. It was a tough decision for me but there was just something about it that I didn't LOVE. Then I ordered the brompton satchel in henna and I love love love it! The hobe was a pretty large size but pretty slim so it was fine for cross body wear. I didn't like it because when I put my things in it they all sunk to the bottom and kinda made it sag down. The satchel is great and I wear it crossbody too. Crossbody bags are a must for me because I have two kids and need my arms free.
OT- My mother in law got a 20% coupon in her catalog again! She had one in her last catalog too! Luckily she has passed them both on to me!!!!! :)
If anyone has a 20% off coupon and would not mind to share it, I will be extremely happy to use it. I have to buy work clothes for the upcoming job-hunting season. My email: ecnobelle@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Just finished going through my box from J Crew...
ReplyDeletePalermo paisley underwire twist bandeau top / 34b (item 27140): Fits nicely although I think I could have taken a 32B. The removable straps are a little weird. I thought they were one strap around the neck like a halter but it is actually 2 straps over the shoulder. And they hook in this weird place at the center of the back near the clasp. And they seem to fall out of the fabric hooks a lot. Sigh...I need to wear those straps if I am going to be doing anything more than sunbathing.
Palermo paisley side tie hipster / medium (item #27143)--don't have much to say about these...they fit fine.
I'm not as in love with the colors in this print. The orange is a little more bright than I was expecting. Still pretty cute though.
I also got the Coralie cami in wild mushroom (item #26016). Everyone was right...size DOWN. I got a 6 (thinking I was sizing down)and it's a bit large but FS so can't return. I guess it's OK to wear now and again; would be super cute if it fit a bit more snuggly. It's a little baggy on me. Also, it came a little wrinkled...what's up with that. Now I have to iron my new blouse? Sigh....
MDPA,
ReplyDeletei've never tried perfect tees so don't know how the mixed tape perfect cardi would compare. :\
but if the perfect tees are the same texture as the mixed tape, i really should try them. :)
i'm about 5'4" and unbuttoned hits me high thigh. buttoned hits me at hip.
actually, i just posted an IRL of the bronzed twig color, hth!
http://eggytarty.blogspot.com/2010/08/mixed-tape-perfect-cardigan-irl.html
MDPA,
ReplyDeleteoops! i forgot to mention that i was able to get the 30 promo bc i ordered the mixed tape cardi's during the wee hours they added the new 30 promo and before taking out the 20 off knits and tees.
I put up some pics of the velvet skirt in brown and a retail only ruffled henley tee to go with it on my blog. Here's the link:
ReplyDeletehttp://twhlokjf.blogspot.com/2010/08/brown-velvet-skirt-outfit.html
Some more pics added, of the pink Rimini, and an outfit with last year's Stardust skirt and the Chain and Crystal Twist Necklace.

Seth plaid boy shirt Item 30163
ReplyDeleteOrdered in my regular size small & say it's tts to almost tight across shoulders & in the arms. I wouldn't be able to lift my arms in the air if I sized down. Actually I'll say it's a great fit & would consider keeping it at a lower price. I need to look around & see how these tops are being styled. Although they're pretty, I don't want to end up looking like I'm going out to pick pumpkins on the farm this fall since I live in jeans, cords & cargos.
Tie-front cardigan item 30101
Ordered this in size small in the hthr sandwalwood color. (Normally I order size medium so I can close the sweater around my hips/butt but would not have to in this sweater.) It fits tts to tight in the arms & loose in the body. Overall fit is perfect for me but I think it will run big on less curvy ladies. Love the color but it's pretty itchy & I'm not an itchy skin type person. Itchy enough I won't be able to buy it. Alpaca's from last year don't bother my skin. The sweater is thin & I can actually see some pulled weave, kind of like where the hang tag caught on it. Check for snags esp. if you get it later in the season.
Vintage matchstick jean in broken dark indigo wash item 23489
I should've sized down one size but didn't give this option a second thought since they're 'matchstick'. I ordered my regular size in cords & other JCrew denim & these are loose in the rear & thigh. I can deal w/the rear being a looser fit becuase it's not saggy but the thigh has extra material sticking out at the outer side seam. I'm pretty sure I can shrink them enough to be wearable but I wish I would've called for measurements first. Esp. since they ended up being about $50.
Petal vine shell item 24772
Ok, ok, I'm a hypocrite, I admit it. I gripe about unfinished edges & embellishments but I ordered this top anyway. I really liked the petals on the perfect fit tee's last year, & after seeing this top on Fatima on her blog I decided to risk it.
Ordered size 4 in color dusty pink. It has a side zip & it fits tts. Side zip doesn't bother me & I look forward to wearing this under some of my grey cardi's this fall/spring. I know the petals will probably look like h-e-double toothpick in no time but maybe I can get some fray edge to extend the life of the shirt.
Oops, Seth plaid boy shirt was a size 4, not 'small'.
ReplyDeleteSorry it took me so long to respond (Closet Crisis & Lizzy) - my 'net died last night!
ReplyDeleteCC, I did not ask any of the SAs what the deal was with the price hike. I just figured supply and demand -- they saw the last group of striped bateau tees flew off the shelves, so why not bump up their profit? Maybe some of y'all will luck out and get the new striped bateaus on 20% off knits and tees promo ...
Lizzy, I did not size up, I just got a Small. I am hoping the tee will stretch out just a bit over time. The sleeves were tight enough that I thought to myself, 'hmmm, this is odd, the sleeves feel pretty tight' but not very uncomfortably so. I didn't have time to ask anyone to pull Mediums for me, but if I can, I will try them on this weekend and see if I like the M better than the S.
I will be interested to hear whether others think the sleeves are tight.
MDPA: The Perfect Fit Mixed Tape cardi is beautiful in both the dark rosewood and bronzed twig. I think that they are a perfect "toss on and go" piece and sooo comfortable. I also am a fan of the grosgrain trim for its feminine appeal (but can see that some would find it to create an unfinished look...totally can see that). I wear XS/S and got these in XS finding this size roomy enough to put a tank underneath. The cotton has a soft substantial feel just like Perfect Fit tees do. Hits me mid hip(I am 5'3 1/2") The dark rosewood is a beautiful washed burgundish fall color and looks wonderful with the Sequin Strip tank in ivory OR the Tissue Sequin tank in either pearl or heathered stone. The bronzed twig color is another great fall color and looks smashing when paired with tanks/shells in the wisteria color. I plan on getting several more of these cardis when they go on sale although, even at FP I will get more than my $$$ worth out of them.
ReplyDeleteIRL, please share if you find a good non-farm way to style the plaid shirt. I'm having the same problem with the plaid shirt I bought.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much jcrewjunkie! Your reply was very helpful.
ReplyDeleteAsked on another thread but thought I'd post here too: has anyone tried/purchased the Dream draped-V sweater? Yes, I know it's the dreaded Dream yarn, but at least it cost half as much as the dreaded cashmere :P
ReplyDeleteEma has it in Cobblestone, but she's on vacation. Does it fit TTS? I take a Medium in a Jackie, 5'3". Last year's Dolce sweaters ran HUGE on me. Should I size down to Small? Any feedback would be appreciated!
I just received the arrow sweater jacket in heather caramel and I love it. Got the XS. I am a XS in most knits and a S for button up cardigans. I wanted it more fitted and I can still wear a thin knit underneath. Arms are not tight on me and I do not have very skinny arms (especially upper arms).
ReplyDeleteHave the Mara Suede Wedges in Cobblestone, they fit TTS and are a nice suede. The heel is under 3 inches which is better than I found with wedges at other stores so that's what made my choice.
ReplyDeleteCloset Crisis have you tried that draped V neck on? I am short waisted and tried that one in Cobblestone last weekend. It made an odd pouch in the front because the band around the hip bloused out the sweater. It would be fine if I had been longer waisted but my height is in my legs. The sweater and color are very pretty if that's not an issue.
ReplyDeleteJeanne and IRL, FWIW, I have the Seth plaid shirt and I'm wearing it with the Crystal Patterns necklace and off white cargos and Kiltie heels from 2006. I think if you wear the Seth with dark pants it comes off more "farmer-like". The 2006 off-white cargos have a nice drape and slightly narrower leg at the bottom which looks good with the Kiltie heels. Not a help with this season but just a suggestion.
ReplyDelete@Elizabeth: thanks for the heads up! This means NO to that sweater for me, as I'm hippy enough as it is, don't need to emphasize with pouchy effect! Think I'll focus my sights on the v-neck then. I am in love with the cobblestone and nordic blue colours.
ReplyDeleteReceived my order of FS shirts (incl. Pilar Paisley, Island Paisley, Suckered Gingham), reviews should be up later tonight.
I'm looking at a couple older J.Crew boots on eBay right now and am wondering if anyone can weigh in on the Glenbrae or Cadogan boots -- are they super wide, or more fitted? I'm searching for a caramel-colored boot that actually fits chicken calves. It's harder than you'd think! I'm just too nervous buying shoes from eBay.(p.s. If anyone's looking to sell any in an 8.5, I'm in)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I think I meant Nottingham, instead of Cadogan boot.
ReplyDeleteshopwithm: adore the glenbraes and I have skinny calves too :) - it came in a reg and an extended calf version. I have the dark maple and the leather is TDF!! hth
ReplyDeleteVisited my B&M today to do a ton of online returns. Tried on the new vintage bateau (in a bright red and in olive) as well as the stripe pocket tee. I normally wear an Xs or 0 in JC tops and I am not a large person...nor do I have big arms, but both of these styles run tight in the arms. Sizing up helps with the arms, but then the body of the tee is way to big/long and the neckline gapes open. Weird! But it sounds like others are experiencing the same thing! I'll wait on both...I have the grey stripe bateau from the spring already.
ReplyDeleteThis was the Barton Creek store in Austin....and they have a very nice selection of the fall items and lots of ballet flats! I am coveting the patent tortoise ballet flats in bronze!
Elizabeth-thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead & tried it w/lighter cords, & even a pair of jeans. You're right; it looks best w/lighter colored bottoms. It's such a pretty colored top & the fit is slim enough I should be able to get by in it.
ReplyDeletethe dream draped-v sweater fit me in a medium, when i usually take a l/xl in j.crew sweaters. i wanted it to not be too baggy and this fit is perfect.
ReplyDeleteKathy & socialscientist,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback on the velvet skirt. I got to see it yesterday - love that brown/mauve color! It is short on my 5'6" frame, but not scandalously so. With tights it will be fine. I was surprised that even a size up from normal, the back *just* fit while there was lots of drape in the front - maybe this was a dud? Liked it a lot, but $78 is too much for an elastic-waist skirt, IMO. Hope it's still there at markdown/promo time.
