  3. I wonder if you get your choice of color, or are they just giving away the Metallic Gold in the pic? I would like to have that one...would ACTUALLY purchase JUST it today at $18.74 if I had a FREE SHIPPING/NO MINIMUM code(I know...I keep bringing it up, but I just HATE the fact that they don't exist, and I would have TONS of cute new things if they did). Anyways...the bag comes in Metallic Marigold, as well, and I just wonder if you get to choose if you win...anyone know?

  4. FabulousFloridaMommy: I am totally with you- If I had that no min free shipping coupon code, I would have picked up many items today at the sale too. But now I am just super choosy about which items "I really want" to pay shipping for.

I am not sure if the contest will let you pick the color or not. That is a good question!

  5. Alexis, I remember you saying in a previous comment that you had the tab-front wide leg pants from Gap. I came across those today, and they're so cute! Did you have to get the tall length, and did you find that they were true to size? If anyone else has these pants, I'd love to hear your opinions!

  6. Hi Lynn: I also have the Gap Tab-front wide leg pants , and they are some of my favorites. :) I have them in both colors and find that they do run true to size, but also stretch out while you wear them, so it may actually be possible to size down one size...I personally by the Long length, even though I am only 5'4", as I usually wear some form of a heel, and I like my pants to hit the ground (I find that it helps to extend the leg line, and give me the appearance of being taller and thinner). Anyways, I have previously purchased them in Regular Length, and after one mishap of being in the dryer a tad too long (I usually "zap" my hang to dry clothes for a couple of minutes to release a little of the wrinkles)...they shrank length wise, and just didn't look right after that. The price on them are really great right now, too! :) Hope this helps you a little.

BTW...just saw their The Perfect Trouser as I was posting the above link and I am IN LOVE all over again...but then I am a big fan of Wide Leg Pants! GRIN

  7. Hi Lynn! Both FabulousFloridaMommy and I own those GAP pants (in black and khaki) and we both like them!

I have tried on all three lengths (regular, short, and tall) and found regular was the best for me (and I am 5'8") as I can wear it with flats with no problems. I find the "tall" is too long and would require me to wear at least 3" heels. As for the "short", the pants not only fall above my ankles, but the cut of the pants looks weird.

I really do like the pants and would recommend getting them. The fabric is both sturdy and soft- definitely worth the cost.

  9. FFM and Alexis-
Thanks so much for the advice! I'm going to order them now. You two are great!

  10. Lynn: Great! And let us know how the pants work out for you. :)

  11. Fit question...I want to order a Kelly button-up shirt. Do they normally run true to size or should I go up a size?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cori-
I like my button-up shirts very fitted, so I have found the Kelly shirts true to size. I usually wear a small top (but often a medium in fitted t-shirts), and I found the small Kelly shirt looks great! If you want a looser fit, try ordering up a size. I hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Another question...I ordered a pair of espadrilles and they are too small. My J. Crew store does not carry shoes. Are they able to exchange them in the store and mail me another pair or do I need to mail them back in to exchange them?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cori: you might also try giving Customer Service a call for specific garment measurements on this particular shirt...they should be able to tell you bust, shoulder, waist, length, and then you can base your decision on that. If it doesn't fit once you get it (based on measurements given by C.S.), then call back to see if they will exchange for another size. They are usually accomodating and will ship it free of charge to you...sometimes allowing you to return for purchase price if your correct size is not available. :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cori: on the espadrilles...once again call Customer Service and tell them you would like to exchange for a larger size...the shipping of the new size should be FREE, and you can return the smaller pair to your store for your credit, instead of paying for return shipping.

  16. Lynn: Congrats on the pants! Like Alexis said...be sure to let us know how they work for you! :)

  17. Alexis, great job with this blog. I too am an avid J.Crew shopper, 90% of all items in my closet are from J.Crew. I usually shop online but know many of the employees at the J.Crew stores in Atlanta and a few at their corporate office and customer service centers. I buy a number of collection pieces as I find their overall quality to be as good as many of the pricier designer items in boutiques and department stores. It is nice to have a forum to share finds and compare notes with other enthusiasts, thanks again!

  18. Thanks Valerie for the nice comment. It is great to see there are other J.Crew Aficionadas out here! :)

  19. FFM and Alexis: I just looked at the GAP pants that you both love so much and think that I too am going to try them.

FFM: I am also 5'4" and am wondering how high a heel you usually wear AND do you wear heels on a daily basis? If so, which shoes do you prefer?

    THANKS!!

    jcrewjunkie :)

  20. Hi jcrewjunkie! I usually wear a 3 to 4 inch heel, and yes...if I am going out to run errands, go to lunch, shop, etc., I do wear heels. I usually wear a wedge heel, as they are just so much more comfortable to wear for extended periods of time, and I prefer the brand BORN seen HERE , as the comfort level they give is PHENOMENAL! I used to wear pointy toe stilettos alot, but now I have 4 boys, so I need comfort as well as style. :) My go to pair right now are the BORN Isola...they are actually on sale at 6pm.com seen HERE . I have them in both the black and brown, plus I have a pair of Camel colored wedges by BORN that I wear as a neutral, but they are not this style. I have to say though, that the length at which I wear my pants tends to pretty much cover the shoes anyways. BTW...in the winter I prefer pointy-toe boots. :)

I do have to say that I also tend to purchase pants at a "regular" inseam, as well...for when I just want to throw on my flip flops and go! :)

  21. hi there...just wanted to give some info on some stuff i just received...the Egyptian cotton V-neck top is yummy! i ordered one in white and one in sapphire and love both. they're super soft, fit well - not too fitted and not baggy - and the "bell" sleeves aren't really belled, they just have a nice shape.

the Overdyed cropped matchstick jean fits weird...tight in the butt and big in the waist. i have some cropped matchsticks from last spring and they fit much much better. i think that's why they're not selling now. alexis, i thought i remembered that you ordered some a while back (not sure though)...did you find the same problem or they work for you?

i hope my links work...sorry if they don't! by the way, i typed in the item number followed by a U to get the *non final sale* matchstick jeans listing (it comes up w/o the %25 discount though) :0

  22. oh also...

jcrewjunkie: like FFM and alexis have said, definitely explore GAP pants. i have had much more success with their pants than with jcrew ones...i don't have any current styles from GAP but i do have 4 or 5 pairs of their trouser type pants, and many of their jeans from past seasons. they seem to really have gotten their fit/sizing down!

    ReplyDelete
  23. BTW jcrewjunkie...the BORN shoes look better in person, and are really cute on the foot, too. ;)

  26. I also have a pair similar to the Lucaya metallic espadrilles (they don't have the leather trim)made by a different designer, but I don't wear them if I know I will be walking for an extended period of time, as they are just not that comfortable...too bad, because they are super cute!

I just recently purchased the Sofft Maesa , but I have not worn them out yet. They are made by the BORN brand, so I expect them to be comfy. :)

I have yet to make any shoe purchases (other than flip flops) from J.Crew (even though I think so many of them are just GORGEOUS)because I am afraid they will be too uncomfortable to wear on a daily basis.

  27. Hi ccbmum: Unfortunately, I don't own the overdyed cropped matchstick jean. I do own a pair of matchstick jeans (Item 83261; dark stonewash hipslung jeans) from last spring though. :)

  28. Matt: I was thinking about making a post topic about their offerings of Selma Glasses (which I think are quite pricey). I just might do it! ;)

FabulousFloridaMommy: I will say that J.Crew shoes are not the most comfortable pair of shoes around. I have personally found that the Cole Hann shoes with Nike technology are *fabulous*. I own a pair and I love them (well worth the price tag)!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Here is Matt's link: Selima for J.Crew crystal-clear glasses ...that's $325 for basically just a frame with clear lenses that you can swap out for prescription or tinted lenses, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Alexis...I have heard about the Cole Haan with the Nike technology, but have never tried them out...so they are actually as great as they claim? I will be shoe shopping again soon, so I will definitely give them a try! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. hi ffm: the cole haan's with nike tech are soooo comfortable! i actually have some g-series ones from a few years ago and i'm still wearing them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. My posts keep getting errors with Blogger, and one of my links didn't show up...it was for The Lucaya metallic espadrilles ...I have a similar pair made by a different designer...they just don't have the leather trim, and are not comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi FabulousFloridaMommy: Much like ccbmum, I have been wearing my Cole Haan w/ Nike pair for sometime. Not only are they comfortable, but I find I don't have to worry about wearing socks/stockings with them, and they are super cute.

I can't find online the pair of Cole Haan I own, but it is a version of the Air Bria. (Something similar is the Air Bria Stitch Ballet). I was able to buy my pair on sale for $100.

I have my eye on the Cole Haan Air Elly Ot Ballet as well.

Unfortunately, the Cole Haan with Nike line is on the pricey side (for me) when it comes to casual shoes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Alexis: I know.. Nike owns Cole Haan so I assume they just want to push every penny out of the shoe since it shares Nike technology. Cole Haan + Nike in the mens shoes are also very comfortable. And yes.. the Selma classes are rather overpriced I would just prefer some Ray Bans. But these Selma designs are exclusively for JCrew or so they say. I'm surprised JCrew dosen't work with Persol.. now those are classic throwback/ JCrewish. I love that I'm posting this under the free handbag giveaway post.. ha.

  35. alexis, i love those peep toes! i just remembered that i also have a pair of cole haan sandals i bought a few years ago on sale (a bronze strappy flat). i'm registered with them and either because i've bought online before or just because they have my email address they do send me some really good coupons once in a while...like %20 off of already on-sale stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Daniel: That is a good point- that Nike owns Cole Haan! I also completely agree, for the price of the Selima glasses (which you have to pay an additional fee to replace the lens), I would much rather get Ray Bans (which are definitely worth the price). Lastly, I think it is great that you read the comments under this free handbag giveaway post... you are a true J.Crew Aficionado!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. ccbmum: I would love to get a pair of their sandals! The Cole Haan + Nike line is just great. Also, thanks for letting me know that they offer discounts on their sale items- maybe I can get another pair if it is in my price range. :)

  38. Yay for another drawing!

On an unrelated note, I recieved a shipment today from J.Crew. I got the Lana polka dot top in light pewter today, and I was quite dissapointed. The material was not as soft or silky as I expected it to be, and it was cut so large that it really looked like a sack on me. Normally I would just get it taken in, but I was disappointed with the material, so back to J.Crew it goes! On a happier note, I also recieved the Matchstick jeans today, which are fabulous, and I can't wait to start wearing them after I get them hemmed.

  39. I actually saw this bag in-store, but the gold color looked really GOLD. I'm guessing it comes in two colors, but I like the metallic gold color better.

  40. Alexis,

The Cole Haan AIR ELLY OT BALLET is on sale at $109.95 under Cole Haan website sale section.

  41. ...and cole haans are never *final sale* ;)

  42. Anonymous at 10:40 PM & ccbmum: Would you believe that I was already at the Cole Haan website looking at those shoes!?! After all this talk about Cole Haan & Nike technology, I decided to see what is available. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I want to like Cole Haan. I really, really do. I found the cutest pink and purple ballet flats there. They went back to the store because I couldn't even hobble around my apartment with my feet dying. I also found a cute pair of mules. I kept them, but I never wear them because they hurt my feet. Granted, neither of these were Nike Air technology, but to be honest, none of those I've tried on in store seemed all that comfortable. And I'm a believer in the philosophy that if it isn't comfortable in the store, it's not going to get more comfortable on the street.

I am a huge fan of Born and Indigo by Clarks for comfortable shoes, but they rarely have styles that are truly dressy. Unfortunately, Cole Haan isn't comfortable enough to me to make the price ($200-$300) worth it.

Off topic, but after I posted this rant on an older post, I realized more people might see it if I also posted it on the latest post. :-)

    BEGIN RANT

I "just asked" customer service if I could be exempt from the $7.50 return fee. My reasoning for the request:

    1. I bought multiple sizes of a suit because J. Crew does not carry petites in stores, and I did not know which size would best fit me in this particular style.

    2. I do not live near a store. Not only does this mean I cannot try before I buy, I also cannot return items to a store. (During my last vacation, I visited several J. Crew stores to try on every single thing I possibly could be interested in so that I could order online with confidence. This is why my no-petites-in-stores reason is still valid even though I don't actually live near one.)

    3. I paid full price for the items I bought.

The answer, of course, was no. I knew when I bought several sizes of the same item, I'd have to factor in the extra shipping and return charges, but it's still frustrating that they don't seem interested in waiving what ultimately is a very small dollar matter. I think J. Crew is being penny-wise but pound foolish.

Someone tell me why, given the reasons above, I should continue to shop at J. Crew when there are plenty of companies that offer good (better?) quality suits for *under* $400, with free shipping to boot.

I'm also mad because I don't even like the suit in the size I'm keeping. But since I've already worn it, I don't feel like I can return it. It is the itchy, unlined wool I mentioned in a previous post. I was going to take it to a tailor to have a lining sewn in, but why should I have to do that on an item that wasn't exactly inexpensive to begin with?

Part of me is tempted to return the worn one and throw a fit if they won't give me a refund. I want to make it clear that because they were so intent on keeping that $7.50 of my refund, they are losing the sale of a suit that I otherwise would have kept. Penny-wise, pound foolish.

    END RANT

    ReplyDelete
  44. Chini: I agree that BORN tends to be more on the casual side, and fortunately for me...my lifestyle is casual for the most part (stay at home mom to 4 boys), but when I do need a dressier heel, I have a closet full of them, already...YAY!!! :)

About the suit...I would say to return it if you are really that unhappy with it, or at least talk to a Customer Service SUPERVISOR and explain your situation. Making wool suits that are unlined really seems to be a "defect" in itself. Anyways, my point is...you never know unless you try...all they can really do is say "no", and then you are back to where you are now...but if they say "yes" and refund your money...you will be glad you did. BTW...you can also ship items back to them via USPS, and it is usually alot less expensive, too. :)

  45. NEED TO RANT:

After weeks of placing orders and the website/factory WHATEVER screwing them up I am now about to do the unthinkable...STOP SHOPPING AT JCREW...I am 24 I've had a jcrew card since i was 15...more than 9 years of faithful service to this company...full school wardrobes purchased...everything! That was then...these days I seem to place an order...find out it was cancelled with no explanation...wait on hold for endless amounts of time (to be accidentally cut off on numerous times while still waiting to speak with someone) not getting answers..the works. The latest?? Placed an order for a bag and flip flops a week ago..first they lose the order..then tell me this morning it will ship today...that was incorrect because I received it tonight...you know what NO FLIPFLOPS at all and the bag is TOTALLY WRONG! Both are now sold out on the website and I've been holding for over 40 minutes waiting to speak to someone when I was told it would be 8. The cake topper...I was FULLY CHARGED for this order...how dare they have the audacity to write final sale. Well forget you J.Crew..there are other shops in the sea!!!!
