J.Crew Stores: Final Sale Tip

Since many J.Crew stores are carrying "final sales," Jacquie shared with us a great tip to know (in case you aren't sure about keeping the item):

During the final sales in the stores let's say you want to purchase an item as a gift, but have some second thoughts about doing so because it is FINAL SALE. Well, my Sales Associate told me that you can purchase it the items without the additional off and if you decide to keep the item, bring the receipt back in and they will adjust the price to reflect the additional percentage off!!!!! I thought it was something my SA was just doing for me, but then I heard a manager tell another customer the same thing.

"Thanks!" again to Jacquie who shared with us! :)

  1. That's really great to know...I was under the impression that you had to just purchase it at regular price for it not to be final sale...didn't know you were allowed to bring it back in for a price adjustment...too bad that doesn't work for online Final Sale purchases...

  2. I wanted to purchase two items without additional discount last week as I wasn't sure if they really looked good on me. I wanted to have an option to return. One clerk had no problem with that but the other said that they were just told they can't do that that anymore...

  3. FabulousFloridaMommy: I thought the same thing too- that you would have to pay the full price. This tip is great to know. (Although I think someone in a post might have mentioned this tip before, but I just can't remember where.)

Anonymous at 9:25 AM: I guess it sounds like this may be another policy that is changing. Hopefully it was just the one store you went to, and not a national policy change. Nonetheless, thanks for giving us the "heads up" in that the policy might not be universally honored. :)

  5. FFM: thought you could relate...just opened up a jacket from JCrew that I ordered online and it reaked of smoke (I am highly allergic) I have the feeling this item was worn and returned and the JCrew returns people did not do their job...

  6. Thanks Anonymous at 9:58 AM for the nice comment!

Anonymous at 10:03AM: That story about your jacket being a return is awful. For the longest time I didn't realize that the items ordered online included returns from the store (which does make sense to me now). It wasn't until I noticed some of the items had the security tag cut that I put it "all together". ;)

  7. Anon @ 10:03am: I CAN relate...I'm sure you are referring to my story about the Crewcuts Madras shorts for my little boy that arrived with a hole in them, and the tag coming off, right? That was just UNBELIEVABLE! Thankfully I haven't experienced anything like that since then...make sure you call CS about it...I'm sure they will take care of it for you. :) Let us know what happens!

  8. You guys have great tips! I'll have to try that sometime.

I have a question about online returns: if I mail in a return and it brings my total below the amount that was required for free shipping with a coupon code, would I get back-charged for the original shipping? That has not been the case when I have returned items in the store, but wanted to find out if online returns are different. Also how long does it take to get credited for the return? thanks!

  9. Jeanne: I believe the answer is no... I have never heard of them doing that anyway. But you if you return your item via mail you will then have to pay shipping to return it. Bring it to the store and you wont risk anything!

  10. Jeanne: I echo Blumre's advice- I have not encountered a time where J.Crew charged me shipping (from them delivering the item to me) when I returned an item from an order that used a code for free shipping.

The only shipping you pay is the cost to send it back to them by mail.

In case you are interested, the following is their return or exchange an item by mail where it says if you use their smartlabel "No postage is required; the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund (one item $5.95, two or more items $7.50)."

  11. Jeanne: You also asked how long the credit would take to appear back on your credit card- I find that it usually takes about 2 weeks. I hope this helps. :)

  12. Hi - I have a question. I know a should be boycotting, but I have been dying for the patent leather peep toes in green: (http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/shoes/heels/PRDOVR~94409/94409.jsp)

Because they are final sale (UGH!) I am very concerned about the size, but they don't have them in my store. I am usually a size 7, but I had to buy the Pepper Suede heels and the liv ballet flats in a size 6.5.

Does anyone have these? Do they run true to size?

They seem to be cut similarly to the Pepper Suede peep toes, should I just order the size I bought those in?

What do you guys think? :)

  13. jeanne: you can also return the item on your own by USPS. I recently sent back 2 Jackie Shells by Priority Mail and it only cost me $4.75, plus I have a tracking number and delivery confirmation, as well. It's just whatever you prefer...

  14. copleycrew: For me, J Crew shoes run on the larger side, so if you are a size 7, best to go for a size 6.5. Also, you might want to contact CS and ask for insole shoe measurements.

  15. CopleyCrew: You don't have to boycott if you don't want to! ;) Unfortunately, I have not tried on those shoes in person (although I think they are lovely!) I also understand the position you are in, especially because they are peep toe shoes they can vary by 1/2 size. I suspect that if you are a 6.5 in their latest shoes (the Pepper and Liv flat), then you are either a 6 or 6.5 in the peep toes. Hopefully someone else here can give you more guidance. :)

  16. Okay, I ordered them in a 6.5, I will report back with results! :)

Also, they told me that since I am a good customer, they can probably do something to help me if they do not fit. I thought this was really nice and I really liked the girl that helped me. She said that JCrew really appreciates their repeat customers. So maybe they are worried about alienating us as a result of this new website fiasco!

Note: three times during the call she became locked out of the system and we had to wait. I was even googling item numbers for her. She seemed very stressed.

Alexis: thanks for the permission to shop. I am glad you understand that my addiction sometimes transcends my moral outrage :)

  17. CopleyCrew: That is fantastic that customer service was helpful. I think the size 6.5 will work fine for you too. I also think it is great that you helped customer service by googling the old item numbers. [Which goes to show having links with Google does have an important place with websites! ;) ]

Also, I totally understand the need to shop at J.Crew. (I laughed at your line about addiction beating moral outrage- too funny!) If you notice, I never said I boycotted J.Crew stores (oh that is right- that's my loophole!) I just said I would shop less at stores, and probably not online for awhile. :) (In all seriousness though, I was spending way too much online. I need to let my savings catch up a bit.) ;)

  18. Thanks everyone for your advice on returns! I have some heavy items to return (sweaters) and I think the $7.50 would be cheaper than me shipping it or driving to my store with today's gas prices! I'll let you know if this turns out to be a mistake....

  19. for all who have issues with the cost of the return postage, why not just use USPS flat rate, which is around $5.

  20. I just purchased a coat from JCrew "final sale" that looked RED online and is actually ORANGE! I hate it- does anyone know of any way that they will accept a return or exchange on final sale items?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anon at 7:57 AM: No worries! Either return the coat by mail or at a store. If you return by mail, make sure you call J.Crew's customer service first and explain that you received the coat but the color is not the same as pictured and that you would like to return it. More often than not, they will allow you to return it with no issues. Also ask the representative if they will "make a note" on your order that you are returning it (so when they do receive the coat by mail, they know it is okay to refund).

If you go to a store, just let the associate know the reason you are returning is because the item was not the same color as pictured/described. Again, more often than not, they will allow you to return the coat. If for some reason, the store won't accept the return (which again, rarely happens). Call customer service, explain to them, have them make a note in your order, and go back to the store. Then tell the store associate that there is a note on your order stating you are able to return it.

I hope this all helps! :)
