Buy & Review: What did you get during the Sale?

It's.a.southern.thing said (in the "J.Crew's Final Sale: Now with 25% Off" post) that many of us are starting to receive the items purchased from the sale a week ago and would love to hear the reviews about those items which are still on sale. I think this is a great idea, hence the post. :)

Incidentally... as much as I said I wouldn't purchase anything during this final sale... I did! I just caved when I saw the Solid Frances Blouse (Item 91801) available in Sour Lemon. I was so happy with this blouse in True Aqua (that I bought last week), I just had to get it in another color. [I won't lie, if I see it in white and in my size, I will buy that version as well! ;) ] This blouse fits true to size and is quite flattering. It really emphasizes the waist while providing some (but not too much) room around the stomach. The ruffles, oh the ruffles, is just enough to look elegant and cute at the same time.

How did you all fair this time around in the sale? Were you able to snag any sweet deals? Let us know how you made out and what you thought of those items! :)

  1. Congrats on the blouse, Alexis!

In final sale, I got some wonderful things:

    1. Matchstick Jean - super cute and very comfy

    2. Marina Stripe Dress - very flattering and pretty

    3. Sequin-strip tissue tank - comfy and fun for nights out

  2. I bought a pair of jeans for 39.99 before the 25% off sale by like 2 hours. And I got a jacket. The jacket runs way too big so I will have to take it back and get store credit for it. (Oh well its not like I wont spend the store credit!)

    Congrats on the shirt Alexis.

I wish I needed more clothes right now. But alas the stuff I really want isn't on sale. (Featherweight merino v-neck and the linen ruffle v-neck tank).

  3. In a separate post, I do need to rave about J Crew for just a second. I had order a featherweight merino v-neck in February on back-order. Well it never came and they said they were sold out and there was "no chance of me getting one." I was very sad, because you see, I had committed a cardinal sin, I accidentally put mine in the dryer! (it now fits my 5 year old niece very nicely)

However, imagine my surprise when I saw it in the new arrivals section last week. So I called. And they agreed to sell it to me for the sale price (29.99) at which I had originally ordered.

Thank you J Crew for being honest and fessing up when you were wrong!

Now just bring back the free shipping and I would be spend goo gobs more money!

  4. Thank you Stephanie! Both for the congrats and the review on your products. It sounds like you did very well during the sale! :)

Blumre: Also thanks for the blouse congrats! :) I am sure if you called J.Crew and explained that the items weren't shipped before the 25% off sale, they would credit you the difference. What jacket did you get by the way? :)

Also, congrats on getting your merino v-neck sweater. I think it is great that J.Crew honored your original purchase price! :)

  5. I only did so-so with the sale. The only things that worked for me were the Polka-dot Catarina top (true to size, you will need a camisole underneath), a pair of flip-flops, and the tropical Amagansett tote (only $10.39!). The things that didn't work:

    1. Slub-cotton wrap front tank in tangerine: Great color but this is made for someone with A or B sized breasts, which I don't have. The empire portion of the top is overly billowy (not flattering), and the wrap top did not lay flat (on me).

    2. City-fit buttery twill cargo pant in soft fuschia: The pants are nice, but the color is horrible! The color online was deceiving; these are much more of a bright fuschia. WAY too bright for pants.

    3. Katie sweater jacket: True to size, but again, not for someone with a larger chest (I am a large C). The buttons pulled, but it fit everywhere else.

  6. Hi, I'm a new reader to your blog, and I love it! I, myself, am OBSESSED with all things J.Crew, and we all know when there's a sale...here's what I got:
    1. The linen Casa Rosa jacket in Citron - very cute, perfect for layering at the office during these summer months
    2. Brushstroke rose skirt (which strangely is not online or in the catalog, just in store) - very flattering! The tie belt which is attached can be tied either in the front or the back.
    3. Three very-soft & very versatile white shirts - featherweight cotton pleated, featherweight cotton ruffle, slub cotton embroidered tunic
    4. Bubble necklace in papaya - it was marked 33% off, plus an additional 25% on top of that!! The piece is big but gorgeous!
    5. Wood-bead and fireglass necklace - marked down to $19.99, plus the additional 25%!! It's more beautiful in person.

I also got some stuff online, which I'm still waiting on:
    1. Brushstroke-print silk tunic
    2. Brushstroke rose bateau top (not on final sale)
    3. Metallic Brushstroke Antonia dress

  7. Congrats on the blouse again Alexis...I was debating about that blouse but wasn't sure of the fit. Sounds like it really worked for you! (and this will make it harder for me to resist dropping it into my shopping bag the next time that blouse shows up on the sale section!)

So, I went a little crazy during the final sale and the previous 20% off sale (some of my items were just recently received which is why I'm reviewing them now)

    - Dark Chambray Swing Skirt - I read your reviews on this site and thought it would be ok to size up on this skirt (I bought a size 14 and I'm normally a 10/12). However, as much as I wanted to like this skirt, I Just couldn't...I'd resigned myself to wearing it super low on the hips but I'm currently in the process of losing weight and its already dangerously low lol so I had to send it back. Too bad b/c it really did look quite cute, for a day of shopping and even as a beach cover up (considering I got it for $15!). It looked completely different from the website though!! A LOT fuller and pouffier so it wasn't exactly the most figure friendly option out there.

    - I bought the Caterina Top in the polka dot print in both colours in a size 14. Again, I sized up, here b/c I'm a bit busty and was worried about it being too tight in the bust area. However, it was a bit loose in the bust and also much too full under the bust (made me look like I had a good 20 pounds more on me) so back it went. I ordered the size 12 in the rich aqua, hopefully this will work out for me (haven't received it yet)

    - I bought the lana tops in all 3 colours lol :) Actually I first ordered it in the pink and the mustard in a size 12, which was slightly loose, so I have since returned and ordered a size 10. For this top I would recommend sizing down! Otherwise it will be a bit baggy, it is cut big! I absolutely *loved* the colours I bought (I haven't seen pewter yet in person, that is on its way but the neon pink and the spiced mustard were absolutely fabulous!) The spiced mustard particularly surprised me, it looks more mustardy online however in person it is a beautiful gold colour with a tinge of green. Definetly something you can carry into the fall months. I'm hoping to do the same with the pewter as well. And at $22, you can't go wrong!

    - I bought a couple of the Cashmere shrunken shawl cardigans. When I first got them I was a bit concerned b/c they are a shrunken fit (i.e. short) however, they look absolutely adorable with a tank top peeking through from the bottom to lengthen the torso. Very very cute and something that is work appropriate as well (considering you haven't chosen a bright colour!). And on top of dresses and skirts its perfect b/c most cardigans are designed for pants and look too long on skirts/dresses. This one fits perfectly. And the cashmere is much much softer than the cashmere tees and plain cashmere sweaters and nicely knit. I bought it in geranium and mandarin orange. The orange is more vibrant than it appears online but a gorgeous colour nonetheless.

    - I bought the cashmere argyle ruffle cardigan in fossil/graphite and the featherweight merino metallic ruffled cardigan in sour lemon. Both are beautiful in real life, again a shrunken fit so a bit shorter but beautiful, the buttons are pearl-escent and I can see them transitioning nicely into the fall. Note - for the merino sweater, it is slightly sheer so a tanktop will show through if that is an issue for anybody

    - Swiss dot fontana dress - nice but note that the tie is under the bust and then it flares out from there, almost more of an empire fit so keep that in mind when ordering. And the neckline is much too deep to be worn without a camisole.

    - Striped emily blouse in black stripe - love love love this blouse! Can't say anything bad about it! and it washes and wears soo well! the striped blouse is made from a different material than the bunny-print or antique print, a crisp cotton with a bit of sateen added....very very nice! I ended up buying this in the pink stripe and antique print as well (waiting on this shipment)

    - Grosgrain critter belt in papaya beetle - ADORABLE!! it is a black ribbon belt with a ladybug clasp! But this is the type of belt you would wear on top of a sweater etc at your natural waist and not hips, so I would recommend sizing down (I'm normally a L in belts but I had to size down to a M since I'm never going to wear this belt at hip level)

    - Cashmere cortina jacket in heather graphite - I was lusting after this all winter and scored it on the first day of the 20% sale. Beautiful. Slightly trapeze cut which looks gorgeous when layered over a slimmer fittign top.

A couple of other purchases I made this past season:

    - Kelly Jacket in Navy and Flame - as i noted in another posting, this is a gorgeous heavier cotton knit jacket, a bit cropped (hit me at high hip) with 3/4 sleeves. Its collarless and goes very well with everything and the cotton knit is nicely weaved. The flame colour is an orangey-red in real life

    - Corrine Jacket in Deep Yellow and Navy - (can you tell I love Navy!) - These jackets are shorter in real life than I thought they would be however look ncie with some layering. I especially like wearing them with the collar turned up (kind of an equesterian look). The deep yellow is a *bright* yellow in real life and a very warm and deep colour. Took me a while to get used to it but it looks *fab* layered over the spiced mustard lana top, or combined wtih brown and cream, or another bright

    - Featherweight merino shirred sweater - this sweater is fantastic! I bought this in several colours and it looks great wtih a contrasting tank underneath. The merino knit itself is fine and very very nice and the colours are very saturated (as we all know and expect from Jcrew!). I especially love it in the soft azalea and sour lemon. I also bought it in black and graphite and I think these will transition nicely to the fall. These look fab with walking shorts or capris.

    - Addison Trousers - Solids and Chambray Addison Trouser - my favorite pant EVER. These are nicely fitted through the hip and have a nice wide leg. The fabric itself has a slight sheen and the solids are in a linen/cotton blend. Only caveat - the website says these have a 33" inseam - NOT TRUE - the inseam is much shorter (31-32" depending on size). I called into Customer Service and they told me the actual measurements were supposed to be 31-32" and not the 33" on the website. So there was no point in exchanging the pants for me since the new pants would have the same inseam (and I need a minimum of 33" inseam to wear with flats!). Luckily the pants have a very wide hem at the bottom so I was able to get them lengthened by my tailor. A good thing b/c I really didnt want to return these since they are sooo fab!!!

(I think I'm like alexis and FFM, I like to wear fuller cut items on the bottom and more fitted tops, this seems to suit my figure the best since I am slighly pear shaped!)

So that's it for now! (God, I've done some major cc damage this season!)

  8. Has anyone had any luck with the Crystal-Button Starlet Jacket on sale in Soft Fushia for $130? I have been eyeing it since it appeared a couple of months ago, and at that price, would be a great deal.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Alexis: I bought the Waverly jacket in Soft Azalea. I got it in a 6 and I am normally a 6 on top and a 4 on the bottom. The jacket fits like a 10. I swear if J Crew changes their sizes again, I am going to have a hissy fit. I have never been a 4 on top, I am a 32DD... thats not supposed to be a 4!

Also...anyone know why they stopped making more fun patterned bathing suits in D-cup sizes. Last year the seer sucker came in D and this year that is no more. Very sad!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Candid Engineer: Sounds like you got a lot! :) I tried on the Slub Cotton Wrap Front tank as well and agree with your analysis: made for some one with a smaller chest size. I am a size 34B and found it was snug in the chest area and low (as well as revealing without a tank underneath).

I also can see how the Katie sweater jacket is snug for those with a larger chest.

I also thought the Fuschia in the city fit buttery twill cargo was a bit bright. Lovely color in person, but not so much for pants (for me anyways).

Eddie & Stretch's Momma: Thanks for the nice comment about the blog! :) You also got me curious about the Brushstroke rose skirt- I will have to check my stores again to see if they have it.

Also please let us know about the pieces you are waiting for, especially the Metallic Brushstroke Antonia dress. :)

a: Thanks so much! I really like the solid Frances blouse which I originally purchased just to get me over the $100 free shipping mark. ;)

Overall: It sounds like you did great with all the sales. You got some really great pieces. Also, you did a fantastic job reviewing them all- thanks so much! I know I appreciated learning from your first hand experience on many of the pieces. :)

Sorry to hear about the Dark Chambray Swing Skirt. It is so pretty in the catalog/online too! Unfortunately, this item is one where you have to really try on a couple of sizes. I also know what you mean about hitting the hips dangerously low: I ended up with the size 8 and not the size 10 (I am normally a size 6) because I felt the size 10 could just slip off. :)

The cashmere argyle ruffle cardigan are beautiful. I totally agree with you- a bit short (would have liked them a bit longer)- but still quite nice. Congrats on the sweaters!

I also own the Swiss dot fontana dress. I like the dress too. I notice this dress looks really great from the side but okay from the front. (I know this sounds weird. If you look at the model wearing the dress online, she is shot from a side angle and it looks great/ very flattering. From the front angle, it looks okay.)

  11. eddie & stretch's momma: what store did you get the bubble necklace at, and what was your final purchase price...if you don't mind me asking? I have been lusting after that piece since it first came out! :)

Congrats on the blouse Alexis!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh Blumre: The Waverly jacket is nice! I wanted to get one myself (especially at the sale price)! Good to know about the sizing issue with it though.

I also have noticed on a few items that J.Crew sizing fluctuates from the norm. Couldn't agree with you more- I too will have a hissy fit if they change sizes on us. :) It is great to order online knowing what my size is- and I would hate it, if that were to change.

FabulousFloridaMommy: Thanks! Even my husband really likes the blouse. :) (Incidentally, I think the bubble necklace is quite lovely too!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. FabFLMommy, hi! I bought the necklace at the Pentagon City mall on the outskirts of DC, and it had come down to $75 ($74.99 to be exact)!! It is just fabulous! I would've really liked it in turquoise too though!

Blumre, I so agree with you regarding J.Crew's sizing. One of the major reasons I looooove J.Crew is that their sizing is so predictable and fit me oh-so-well.

Alexis, you can be sure I'll be on this blog and commenting more. ;) I have the Frances blouse in white and navy and love them. I had to stop with those two. =P

I forgot to include in my post that I had tried on the Metallic-trim linen tunic dress, and it was quite baggy. Given that I usually buy petite dresses, though; it looked a little like a fancy sack. =P

I also tried this little white mini with nice gold metallic stripes going across - very nice & quite flattering (even with those stripes!), but again, I had to sacrifice something for that lovely little bubble necklace.

I tell you, ladies, look into my closet, and you'd be looking into a J.Crew store - past and present. Heh. ;)

  14. I was fortunate enough to purchase just before the final sale (and during the 20% off promotion), and purchased the Peyton bag in poppy/aqua (#87381), linen-cotton casa rossa jacket in light citron (#94140), and the overdyed cropped matchstick jean in graphite (#92142). The jacket was kind of boxy (I prefer something more fitted), and the color was more fluorescent-looking than it appears on the website, so I'll probably return. Undecided on the cropped jeans; they don't fit perfectly, but they aren't bad for the price. LOVE the bag.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Everyone has bought some very nice items! Congrats!

FYI: I got the Waverly jacket in my normal JCrew jacket size 10 and it fit just fine.....I guess it fits people differently:)

I also got the Lana top in neon pink and the matching headscarf.

Also, the Frances blouse in tall in aqua and yellow.

    Piper tank in fushia

Gayle ruffle trench in sand--LOVE this the most!

Plus a few other odds and ends.....plaid tote bag and cashmere cardi in 3 colors

    ReplyDelete
  16. anonymous at 12:55 pm - How do you like the Piper Tank? I think it looks cute but I was wondering how true to size it is/how it fits

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon at 12:45pm - how does the Gayle ruffle trench fit? I really liked it but wasn't sure what it looked like in real life. Also, have you seen the flame colour in real life?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Eddie & Stretch's Momma: I know exactly what you mean about the closet being a mini-J.Crew boutique! :)

Danielle: Although I don't own it, I love the Peyton bag too! It is so pretty!

  19. Alexis, I agree with you on the Swiss dot fontana dress. From the front it just isnt' as flattering as you would think it would be from the website!!! I got it for $25 though so am reluctant to send it back. I figured it would be a nice lightweight summer dress

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi A! Not sure if you are interested, but there was a post awhile back on: Love it or Leave it: Gayle Ruffle Trench

    ReplyDelete
  21. A: You got a great deal on that dress! I would totally keep it for that price. (I paid $63 for mine.) :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks Alexis for the link to the Gayle Ruffle trench post! I saw this post when it first came out but there have been many more comments since the last time I checked it out.

To be honest, you've written so many posts that I completely forgot about this one as it moved down the current page! I don't know how you do it!

Thanks for creating (and maintaining!) such a fantastic and informative blog!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I liked the fit of the Ruffle Trench very much. It did not run big on me and there was not any "extra" fabric. It just has nice gathers on the back. I don't know why but my regular size worked for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I just love, love the Frances blouse. First I got a black/white floral version from ebay - got so many compliments, and decided to get the Sour Lemon during Final Sale last week. Love it too! So flattering. Then this week I caved in and bought the Cherry Blossom and True Aqua. So I will end up with FOUR Frances blouses in my closet! - Vivian

  25. Does anyone own the Refined serge pencil skirt? I just bought it in fuchsia ... in some ways I really like it, but after just trying it on for a bit, and then taking it off, I notice it seems wrinkling might be a problem because it's cotton. Just wondering if anyone has any expereince with this skirt, and if so, does it get a thumbs or thumbs down?

  27. I hope someone can answer my question: in terms of tops, what is the difference between 'Tall' and regular sizing? I didn't see anything about it in the size charts. Are the arms and hems longer? Is this the only difference?

    ReplyDelete
  28. OK, what else did I get other than the Frances blouses?

    Love these pieces:

    - 2 Waverly jackets (in black AND pink)
    - Python mini-skirt (in brown): so cute.
    - Taffeta rugby skirt in papaya (BEAUTIFUL!!)
    - Kayla dress (in black - the papaya shows too much; I'm usually a size 2 but both XS and S have huge armholes!! I guess with a cardigan it's OK)
    - Tulip jacket in sour lemon - another cute piece. I don't find it boxy at all.
    - Valencia cardigan
    - Suzannah blouse in shell (staple piece)

    HATE:
    - Tie-neck blousson blouse (so frumpy and super sheer but looks funny with a camisole)
    - Embossed beach dress - fits all wrong and lumpy.

The others - I won't know till they arrive later this week *keeping my fingers crossed* - - Liv patent-leather ballet flats, Fiona madras plaid jacket, jeweled posy flats, and Polka-dot San Telmo jacket.

    Vivian

  29. My size 2 and 4P Frances blouses fit me perfectly but the Cherry Blossom Frances blouse was available only in size 4. I bought it anyway. It will arrive later this week. Question: Do you think I can shrink it in the dryer? If not, maybe I'll have to sell it on ebay.

  30. Has anyone bought the Lucaya Fabric espadrilles? How do they fit? And are they comfortable?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I got it! The skirt I was talking about in my earliest post - the brushstroke skirt that I could only find in stores - is most like the polka-dot bow skirt, just in a different pattern. =)

Hi, Christine! The Lucaya fabric espradilles look very similar to the Savannah suede espadrilles, which I have in saffron yellow, and like in other J.Crew shoes, I have to size 1/2 up. I haven't tried on the Lucaya's but if they're anything like the Savannah's, they're quite comfortable. I hope this helps.

  32. Love your site, just stumbled upon it today! I have a J Crew obsession as well!

The weekend before last I got braided flip flops and green fish print flip flops (same print as the school of fish bathing suit) in store for 2 for $30. I also got the Hawaiian floral Caterina top in blue/green and the ruffle drawstring mini in yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Anonymous,
How did the 2 Waverly jackets fit you? You said you had black and pink. Did they fit you true to size?

    ReplyDelete
  34. So far I haven't loved my orders - the rest I sent to my boyfriend's office by accident so I'll have to report back after this weekend unless his assistant steals it all!

The Caterina top in 14 was too small in the chest for me - I'm normally between a 14/16 and have a really large chest. It zipped but was not flattering on me, which I was bummed about.

The tie-neck blouson sweater is AWFUL - I agree with whoever said that above. It was so huge and drapey on me - I ordered the XL and seriously think I could have fit into a medium.

The Kayla dress is shorter than it looks - I am 5'6" and I'm not sure I'd wear it for anything other than a beach coverup. It's also a lot more casual looking than it seemed on the website.

I've almost bought the tie-front wrap dress twice but every time I see it in the store it has a pull or hole in the fabric already.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks Eddie and Stretch's Momma! Priced at $45, I'm seriously tempted to buy them, but I wish I could try them on in-person. BTW, cute dogs!

  36. hi everyone...
i got the waverly jacket in black/white for 49.50 from my store's %50 off sale about a month ago and i love it. it was true to size for me...again, i'm challenged in the bust area so their jackets work well for me ;) it's maybe a tad tight under the arms but no biggie for the price!

yesterday i wrote about the Overdyed cropped matchstick jean fitting wierd (big in the waist/fitted in the butt) so i took them back to the store which had them in the next size down (thankfully!!). the associate told me that the *colored* matchstick jeans are running a size bigger...i tried the next size down and they fit like a glove...yay! i got the soft graphite color. they are so soft and stretchy...a little tighter fit than the regular denim ones (which i have and love also) but the stretch makes them super comfy! the best part is that they're only $22 down from $85...gotta love that :)

ffm: i remembered you writing about how you like jcrew's flip flops (i do too!). i bought the metallic silver classic flip flops (for full price) online and they're really cute...they have them in my store...maybe yours too?

    ReplyDelete
  37. A: Thanks for the nice comment! I know what you mean about older posts- I sometimes go back and notice that there are many more comments than I remembered. ;)

Anonymous at 2:51 PM: I can't blame you for owning so many Frances blouses. They are fantastic!

Amy: That is a good question. J.Crew's webpage only talks about Tall in terms of pants (inseam being longer). I suspect tall in tops affects the torso.

Pink Maple Design: Thanks for the nice comment! Also, it is great to have another J.Crew Aficionada! :)

ccbmum: Happy to hear that you were able to find the matchstick jean in the size that works for you. Very interesting how J.Crew has certain pieces that are sized up or down from their usual sizes.

  38. I got a few things from the sale last week. I'm satisfied with the striped Emily blouse and the ripstop shorts in grey. They shorts are a bit big, but the drawstring helps with that. The blouse is not as flowy as it looked in the online pic; it's a lot stiffer IRL.

Love the fuchsia slub cotton ball trim cami! Pretty tenty, but it looks great under a cardi. Also got the stretch chino shorts (not on final sale, just regular sale) and they are perfect! Great fit and construction.

I also got the orange ruffle beach dress (don't remember the exact name) and it's obscenely short. I'm 5'3" and it hits right below my butt. Looks like that will end up becoming a swim cover-up.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I got the Lilah Dress in black. Yes, the black is boring, but I can dress it up. I'm thinking I'll hit Nordstroms for some cute, strappy, turquoise heels. I really like it. The fabric is thick/heavy enough to have a defined shape to the dress.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey Anonymous:

About those two Waverly jackets. I find it true to size, and actually a bit too fitted (at least my Azalea one is). So I got the black in size 4 (arriving later this week). Size 2 was sold out and judging from the Azalea's fit, I was brave enough to go with 4.

The waverly is a pretty jacket! Very flattering.

My Tulip jacket is also a 2.

    After a long hiatus from J.Crew, I'm now J.Crew size 2 (used to be 0 or P0 pre-pregnancy days, sniff). - Vivian

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree that the Kayla dress is a bit short (even on me who is 5' 4"). Armholes are kinda huge.

The Caterina top - just a strange fit and doesn't work for me. So much fabric in the wrong places and makes me look 20 pounds heavier. I tried both 2 and 4. I'm flat chested, maybe that's why.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You can call me crazy, Alexis. I just reserved another black floral Frances blouse through an ebay seller!! I need one extra for backup...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anyone bought the jeweled posy flats? I'm lusting after the black with white flowers, but it's sold out. So I got the deep violet. Are they comfy? I'm considering getting the black from ebay. - Vivian

  44. Anonymous at 6:01 PM: I looked back in the catalogs and online and I know the Frances Blouse comes in three colors: aqua, sour lemon, and white. It also comes in the cherry blossom pattern. I didn't know it came in black & white. Out of curiosity is the black/white version new?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I actually passed up on the sale this time. The only thing I wanted was a hoodie (those are soo comfortable!), but I couldn't justify the high shipping costs.

I have the Frances Blouse as well. It's a gorgeous piece...I love how it's so fitted at the waist.

I have to ask, Alexis...how do you wear it? It's so sheer that I feel as though it needs a camisole underneath...or else use it as a swimsuit cover-up.

  50. I got:

    The Cynthia dresshttp://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93880171&catId=cat302146
I love it and have been pairing it with the patent trimmed satin tie silk belt which surprisingly matches quite nicely!
    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93468153&catId=cat90244

I did get the Gayle Ruffle Trench in Flame and ordered both the 2 and 4 to try. If I had not tried the 2 I would have ditched the whole coat altogether--the 4 ran so big and just had too much material making it not flattering at all. Size 2 looks great and after my 15% teacher discount I paide $94 so I thought heck--why not!

I had been watching 2 bathing suits all season, but don't feel comfortable wearing bikinis all the time and couldn't see paying full price for them. So at under $25 each, I got the polka-dot padded glamour bikini http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod91754153&catId=cat90251 and the patchwork madras padded wide band bikini http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml;jsessionid=OU1ZR2KIJ0FZ2CTFEEHB2RQKMUQROGUG?id=prod91576181&catId=cat301404
The pinstripe seersucker shirred underwire tank wasn't on sale, but I got it as my main suit to wear and it's really darn cute! http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod94298151&catId=cat304230
The Lana blouse in the gray color is very nice but wow did it run large (as others have mentioned.) I'm usually a 4 and while I ended up with a 2 I think a 0 would have worked even better. Fabulousfloridamommy, I like your idea of pairing with the metallic bow belt....I may even pay full price for it. I almost got the crew-cuts version on sale, but it only came in gold so I let it go.

Got 2 jackie cardigans (soft fushia and black) but these were full price. I'm paring the fushia with a tangerine tank underneath and khaki wide legs and loving the pink/orange combo this summer! Thanks to J crew for the inspiration :)

  51. Oh, I forgot:
The Swingy shirred piqué dress did NOT work at all for me.... I found it too short and it would definitely need to be belted. It looks very similar to the shape of the Emma dress which also looked adorable online but awful on ME. :(

Also sent back the ruffled pique shift dress---it was cute, but not $59 cute. Wasn't anything all that spectacular.

Lastly, has anyone tried the Liza patterned peep-toe heels? I'm lusting the charcoal color but alas will have to wait for a sale. I'd love to know if they are true to size though....

  52. Hello everyone! Here are my reviews for my most recent purchases:

Amelia Tank: I absolutely LOVE these. I order the 2P and they fit like a dream. I love the way they look under J Crew's jackie cardigans! I purchased the summer lime (soft not too loud), ivory, wild peony (again rather muted) and sweet papaya and love them all!

Overdyed Matchsitck Crop Jean: I had to return this as I got a 27 and it was HUGE around the waist. The 26 fits perfectly and looks terrific with the Metallic Linen Casa Rossa jacket, a white tank, and the Coral and Shell necklace.

Striped Emily Blouse: What more is there to say about the Emily blouse? It is fabulous and oh so feminine! I got mine in size 2 and it fits perfectly (even with a cami under it). I also have this in the Bunny print.

Cashmere Argyle Tee: I love J Crew's cashmere tees and this one is no exception. I always take size XS since I am not very big on top.

Tulip Jacket: I really do think that this is beautiful, but I am so afraid that it will look dated by next year so I returned it. I still wonder if I did the right thing as the size 0 fit me perfectly (plus I love the Citrus Lime color with a tan!)

Parisian Polo: I got these in an XS, but the placket didn't look right so I returned them and got a Small and they are fabulous. I have the pink, tidepool, and regal purple.

Alexis: Way to go on the shirt!!! :)

    jcrewjunkie :)

  53. I remember that black floral Frances blouse! I wanted it so bad- but I was waiting for it to go on sale. It never went on sale. I think it was $118 full price. They sold out all of them at full price. They all sold very quickly, within 3-4 weeks, so this may be why you never saw it Alexis. I wanted it too!!!

  54. Hi All! I did a combo of the Final Sale and my in-store sales...didn't get too much, but I DID get PHENOMENAL deals on what I did purchase. :) Here goes:

Polka-Dot Lana Top seen Here ...I got the Neon Pink in Size 0 (I normally wear a 2/4), and will be pairing it with white and gray. Price=$19.12

Slub-Cotton Wrap Front Tank seen Here in Pink and Navy. This top actually does work for me and looks really cute with wide leg pants and a cropped cardigan. :)
    Price per=$19.12

Striped Emily Blouse seen Here in Pink...took a size 4 in this due to my shoulders being slightly broad.
    Price=$12.74

Suzannah Cami seen Here in Bright Flame. I take a size 2 in this and already have it in all 4 colors: Black, Resort Purple, Ivory, and Bright Flame, but the dry cleaner damaged the Black and BF, and I was lucky enough to get the BF in my size this sale...YAY!!! I LOVE this cami! It is so feminine and flattering, and looks so pretty under a cropped or regular cardigan...I get TONS of compliments everytime I wear one of them.
Price=$36.40 (not extra 25%off, unfortunately, but well worth the price anyways)

Featherweight Cotton Pleated Top seen Here in Bright Aquamarine...very pretty, comfy, and true to size. :)
    Price=$12.74

Favorite Fit Everyday Chino seen Here in Navy, White, and Warm Stone. The fabric on these pants is pretty luscious and comfy...I got regular inseam length and can wear them with flats if necessary...I am 5'4".
    Price per pair=$12.74

Critter Flops seen Here in Azalea and Pine.
    Price=$3.18

Favorite Fit Cotton Matting Drawstring Pant in Cool Graphite and White (sorry no pic is available)...LOVE THESE PANTS!!!! Lightweight and SO flattering on, too! I can also wear these pants with flat sandals if necessary. :)
    Price per pair=$16.99

    Men's Boxers-2 pair at $4.45 each

I have desired and yes...lusted after many of the items that you all have been able to purchase, and I thank you for all the TERRIFIC reviews to help with my decision making on my future purchases! :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. auryane: I totally agree with you that the Frances blouse is sheer. I wear it with a white tank top (which is longer) underneath it. It looks quite lovely that way. :)

Anonymous at 7:38 PM, jcrewjunkie, FabulousFloridaMommy:Thanks for sharing your reviews! It sounds like you got some great pieces like the Cashmere Argyle Tee and the Jackie cardigans and some great deals too (which is everything FabulousFloridaMommy bought- you really got some fantastic pieces at great prices!) ;) It definitely helps me to know what you thought of each item! :)

Lynn: I can't believe it but I don't even remember that blouse in that print. (I am usually really good about remembering J.Crew items too.) I can totally see why it sold out in the regular price. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! ;)

  56. Has anyone bought the overdyed cropped matchstick jean?

    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod92142181&catId=cat301205

I'm just wondering on the fit (is it the same as the regular jeans) and on the colours, trying to decide b/w the grey and the light citron and I'm not sure what is better to order. Anyone who has seen/tried these on in real life - please share !!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. FFM - how did you get such awesome deals on the lana top and the pants? That's a lot cheaper than the website...share!!!
Also the striped emily blouse (which was $19.99 less 25% yet you got it for $12???? and the favorite fit chinos for $12??)
    I'm so impressed!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. hi a: see my post above @ 4:49 and anon. at 8:02...they're running a size too big :) i have the grey and LOVE the color and they are very comfy...i'm not a fan of the citron color in general. for me i don't like to wear overly bright colors in a large quantity and i think that the grey is very versatile (and chic)!

  59. Hi a!

I really did get some great deals, and here is how: Father's Day Weekend my store was one of the few that had an additional 25% off, plus I had a Father's Day Coupon (which I shared here) for an extra 15% off (that's when I purchased the Lana Top and Striped Emily Blouse)...I went back a few days later and they still had the extra 25% off plus I got 15% off for the educator's discount on top of that...the Chinos were marked down to $19.99 plus an additional 25% off, and that's when I also got the Navy Slub Cotton Wrap Tank and Featherweight pleated top. The Cotton Matting Drawstring Pants had actually been a purchase last Final Sale but never shipped out to me...whan I saw they were available again, but for $29.99 I called Cust.Serv. to ask for the $19.99 price I would have paid had I received them last time...they agreed and gave me free shipping and my 15% teacher discount on top of it all, too. I then ordered the Pink Slub Cotton top and they honored the price of $19.12 that I had paid in the store to my online purchase that also shipped for free with my pants and Suzannah Cami. :) All in all...I am really pleased...there are many, many more items I would like to get, but I tend to stay with what I know will fit me during the Final Sale.

ccbmum: I did see the Metallic Silver Flip Flops in my store and wish I had gotten them at the time...looks like another trip back is in order soon! ;) BTW...I LOVE the Vachetta Sandals you asked about, but don't have them...I'm anxious to hear any reviews, too...yet another item added to my wish list. GRIN

  60. I have been eyeing the Cashmere Lily cardigan for awhile...any opinions or fit suggesstions on this one? I normally wear a small in tops, but sometimes need to size up to a medium because of my slightly broader shoulders...any advice for this sweater?

  61. My latest jcrew catalog (july 2008) had a a $25 off $150 coupon in it, in-store only, which when combined with the 25% off sale items got me some great deals! I was quite excited. My local jcrew store definitely has things at a much lower price than online. Of course that hasn't stopped me from buying from the online sale too :).
My favorite purhcase in-store was the prima stretch wool pinstripe one-button jacket and matching pants...a whole suit for $75!

  62. Hello all:
I need an advice. I have ordered two jewelry items from past season on final sale: Rhinestone-resin chain-link bracelet (item 87713) and Starburst ring (item 90051 ). Both I coveted and missed when they were available, so imagine my excitement when I was able to purchase them the very 1st night of final sale. Well, the items arrived and the bracelet has every plastic link broken and rhinestones missing , while the ring is heavily scratched, both evidently been worn. I am perplexed. Had anyone before was shipped used/broken items? Am I to laugh or cry? Should I call Customer Service or just bring it back to the store? Will they take their FS merchandize back if it's defective? Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Slastena: Since the manager at your store unfortunately is not very accomodating... I would first call Customer Service to explain the situation...tell them you want to return them to your store because they are broken, defective, and appear to be used. Ask them to put a comment in the "notes" stating that you are allowed to make the return, even though they are Final Sale. If you have any issues with the rep you get...ask to speak to the Supervisor...GOOD LUCK! Let us know what happens. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Slastena, final sale doens't mean they get to pass off broken merchandise to you. Definitely either take it to nearest store, or call customer service and tell them about the problem. I am sorry that now you don't get these items you coveted (unless they are hopefully still available?)

    ReplyDelete
  65. BTW Slastena: I did indeed receive a pair of Crewcuts Boys Madras Plaid shorts (that my son was going to wear for Easter) that had been WORN and returned, then shipped out to me...YUCK! The zipper area was ripped and the tag was coming off the back, PLUS...they were the wrong color of plaid, and it was 3 days before Easter...I called C.S., and the gentlemen apologized and even sent me a $20 gift card as compensation. YAY!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Erin: Sounds like you got some GREAT deals, too! :) CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. To FFM:
thank you for the suggestions. I am calling as we speak. We'll see what they say.:)

They said I can return by mail and they will take care of shipping, store will not take it back since it's FS. OK, I'll try that.

I really really liked these pieces, wish they sent me a good ones.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Slastena: I ordered a merino sweater from spring 2007 this past spring and it arrived with a hole in the sleeve. I also received a defective swimsuit top last year, and this year I purchased a boat neck top that is garbage and a pair of the cropped sweats (Final Sale) arrived with a stain (euw).

I emailed JCrew through 'contactus@jcrew' each time and they said I could send the items back for exchange or return. Sorry if you've already emailed them and did not receive satisfactory results. I'm just letting you know I've been satisfied dealing with them via emails. By the way what a beautiful blog photo!

Hey, let's all move to Florida. FFM is getting prices that sound like she's shopping at Target! I'm so jealous!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. To la belle helene:
I doubt they are any available, they were from last fall.
I have seen a similar bracelet in stores right now, it's not green, it's all gold w/Swarovski crystals. I think it was whopping $250. Might ask my husband to purchase one for ..hmmm...no significant holidays are coming.. Then, maybe just because? :)

  70. To rach:
thank you! Florida sounds like fun, love Fort Lauderdale area. I heard b/c of sunshine, people are more happy there. I guess, they don't get as grumpy and stingy as in DC area.:)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Christina, thank you so much for your kind words re: my doggies. They're my life! I'd buy them Crewmutts stuff if they weren't so darned expensive!

ccbmum & ffm, I have the high-heeled Vachetta sandals from spring 2007. I love them! If the new Vachetta's are anything like them, the leather should be super soft and the sandals comfy!

slastena, I have actually had an encounter with jewelry that was shipped defective to me. I don't know if you remember that butterfly bracelet with wood links (it was a couple of seasons ago), but I had ordered it online. When I got it, there was no clasp to close it. I took it back to the store in Tyson's (sounds like you're from the DC area, so you're familiar ;) ), and they gave me full price back. =)

I do agree with some of the grumpiness in this area, though. =( Although, I do love the four seasons! Gives me more reason to try out all the stuff J.Crew has EVERY season! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks FFM for explaining. I'm still amazed!!!

I have a quick question - what type of proof do they need for the student discount when placing an order over the phone? and does the student discount work in conjunction with the extra 25% off for final sale?

    thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hi, a! I hope you or ffm don't mind me jumping in, but I was in a J.Crew store just yesterday, and one of the customers paying told the person at the register that she was a student. The J.Crew staffer said that she could only get one discount or the other, not both. Given that the 25% in-store discount was bigger, the customer went for that. ;)

I don't know how it would work over the phone though.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hi Eddie and Stretch's mom!

I don't mind at all, but the website clearly states that it is *any* in-store purchase...although it does say in-store and not online/on the phone...but worth a shot...

  75. **Jackie cardigan 85613 OCEAN $39.99: I LOVE this sweater. It was too short on me last season. It will look nice with my Posy print twisted placket shirt.

**Braided-leather O-ring belt 86716 ESPRESSO $9.99: I love this belt. It looked ugly to me at first because part of the plait or braid is the backside of the belt. Once I put it on I fell in love with it. It's a cool belt.

**Glitter-critter sequin-medley tissue tee 88790 BLACK $9.99: I LOVE this shirt. I passed on these when they were out (last season?). This one was sitting all by it's lonesome in FS. It has the lion crest, glitter # and a pin with a king's crown on it for the lion. It is an awesome fit! One weird thing, the item # on the order is 88790 & the item # on the tag is 88785.

**Amelia patterned espadrilles 90788 CAPRI PINK $37.49: haven't received these yet but I already know I love their espadrilles.

**City-fit buttery twill cargo pant 93763 GREY MIST: I bought these before FS in the fuschia color but returned them as I'm not one to wear certain colors on the bottom. (I had long pants in Marigold & Roasted Pepper but felt as though I should be working at a fast food joint :) They had a color out a few years back called Butternut so I thought Marigold would've looked like it but it didn't.

**Solid Caterina top 93418 CLASSIC NAVY & Hawaiian floral Caterina top 93584 DEEP LAGOON: I haven't received the Navy top yet but I have the Deep Lagoon. It looks nice with white bottoms & I have to wear a featherweight tank under it.

    Not FS:
** Cotton argyle hoodie 92678 NAVY MIMOSA: not a sale item but wanted to see it. I like it. I requested the garment length before ordering so I am happy with the fit. It's just cotton though so I don't think it's worth $72.00. Hey, I think it'll be on sale as it's no longer posted on the sweaters page. I have to search on item # & that links to an older version sweater page.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hey someone at JCrew is a fan of Sex and the City. Notice page 32 of the latest catalog says "Stretch in the City" for the new Watson pant. Sorry, this has nothing to do with the topic.

  77. Alexis, thanks so much for this blog! I came acoross it when I Googled "J. Crew promotion codes" and I'm so glad I found you.
I was just at the J. Crew in Corte Madera CA yesterday and they had marked down the coconut straw bag to $14.99 plus 25% off so I got one for less than $12. It seemed like they had taken additional markdowns on lots of other items, too, so you might want to check out the stores again this week if you haven't already!

Has anyone purchased the Andy linen jacket? I don't know if I would be a 4 or 6 and since it's a final sale I'm just wondering how it runs and if it's cute on.

Also, has anyone bought/seen the crystal clasp opaline necklace or the crystal clasp sea glass necklace? These are so pretty I'm tempted to buy them at full price (but I probably won't--$118-ouch!)

    ReplyDelete
  78. FFM,

I have the Lily cardigan and would recommend that you get the medium if you're normally a size small with broad shoulders. It fits a little snug around the shoulders/armpits. I also have the shrunken cardigan and between the two, I honestly like the shrunken cardigan a lot more. It just looks more attractive on than the lily. But for the sales price of the lily right now, you definitely can't go wrong!

  81. FFM,
I own the same cami in the Resort Purple. It came damaged with a stain on the strap right out of the package. I was able to get the stain off. My question is, "What did the dry cleaner do to your black one?" Just for future reference when I take mine in! I have bad luck with cleaners sometimes.

  82. Hi Anonymous @ 11:01 -

I have the Andy jacket and LOVE it! Funny, I actually got it off of Bay for $50 when it was still on the website for $118. Anyway, if you like the Peter Pan-y collar look you'll like this - it looks good open or closed (kind of reminds me of my beloved black wool Charlie coat that I wear in the winter) and is light, but substantial enough to wear in the mornings in the summer when it hasn't quite warmed up yet. I like that it's a little ruched in the back - makes the fit not as boxy as some of their other jackets!

I purchased the Lily cardigan in Citron while it was on non-final sale, but returned it - it was a little too big for me (I got a small, and I'm a size 2 in JC tops, but my shoulders are narrow) and the color just really did not flatter. I find that citron never looks quite as appealing in person as it does on the website! So I tried again and ordered the Lily in XS, in heather graphite. It's supposed to come today, along with the strapless pique dress in Geranium. Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Slastena: Congrats on the return! :) Are they sending you a pre-paid shipping label to mail it back to them? Funny they wouldn't let you return it to the store...I took a couple FS items back to my store last time...maybe they've changed that policy, too. :(

Rach: You are so FUNNY and so RIGHT about the prices being similar to Target...I think some of the prices I got are actually BETTER than you could get there. ;) I'm not sure why my store tends to have so many markdowns...Alexis stated in another post, and I quote... "I asked a J.Crew store associate why that was and he told me it depends on the store's profitability and whether or not they are meeting their quota. If the store is doing well, chances are their additional % off sales are more limited to certain items. If the store is not doing well, then their sale section is better." Maybe that's what's going on here? All I know is that it's the only J.Crew around for about 100 miles, other than a Factory Store they just opened in May. I am fortunate that the Managers at my store are FABULOUS, and so are the employees...I am not fortunate in the aspect though, that they don't carry alot of the pieces I see online that I would like to be able to try on before purchasing, and that is really BAD, especially when it comes to FS. BTW...I love the Jackie Cardigans and Shells...I have the shell in Ocean, and it is such a beautiful color. :) Sounds like you did really well with the sale...how is the Caterina Top? Does it run true to size?

Florida is nice, but EXTREMELY hot!!! I would actually really love to live somewhere that has the changes of the seasons, as I am a huge fan of jackets, coats, cardigan, sweaters, and boots...I am envious of you that can still wear the Kelly Jacket and Katie Sweater Jackets! ;)

Anonymous at 11:39pm and silver_lining: thank you both for the advice on the Lily Cashmere Cardigan...I have been debating between it and the Solid Kelly Jacket...would probably have to put both away until Fall, though.:(

jcrewjunkie: is the Amelia Tank running true to size? I think they are so pretty.

a: I'm not sure what proof you have to have for the student discount over the phone...for the educator's discount I merely told them I would like to receive it with my purchase and they asked for an email address for verification. Now they don't do that, as they are able to reference my previous purchases as proof that I am eligible. You can either call or email C.S. to find out the specific requirements. :) As for using the discount on items that have an addt'l. % off: the answer on that one seems to vary by store, or by the rep you get...seems to be up to the individual employees discretion. I was told that by a phone rep that since the items are already marked down...you ARE able to use the dicount on top of that price, but you could not use another coupon such as Free Shipping with it...it would have to be one or the other. Others have received different answers...the store Slastena visits will not let her use the student discount on the FS items, but my store manager did allow me to use my Educator Discount on mine.

Anonymous at 4:48 am: the dry cleaner left some sort of residue on the camis...the crispness of the taffetta is gone and the color looks faded. When I asked her what happened, she acted like she didn't have any idea what I was talking about. Needless to say I won't be going back to her, and now I'm afraid to take them to a cleaner at all...I've thought about trying the home dry cleaning kit, but not sure if they work or not...any opinions???

    ReplyDelete
  84. FFM: Thanks for letting me know about the dry cleaning episode. I have used the at home kits and they are good to "refresh" items but not nec. give them a good cleaning. It did remove a stain from a skirt with the solution included but overall for a really good clean I use the dry cleaners. Just my opinion:)

  85. Kristi, I've seen and tried on the La Jolla sweater and I think it's really pretty. The colors and patterns aren't loud at all, very subtle actually. For the price, I thought the fabric could have been nicer but now that it's on sale, it seems much more reasonable! Overall, I would definitely recommend!

  86. A quick question about the frances blouse - is it true to size, and how is the yellow colour in real life? I just bought white this morning and am considering adding sour lemon as well....I normally wear a 12 on top but all they had was 14 so I bought it thinking I am a bit busty...

    ReplyDelete
  87. Sorry I guess I should be more clear, they have size 10s and size 14s available, is it better to size up or size down?

  88. I purchased last year's shirts which were both originally retailed at $128.00 each. One is the Suzannah Liberty Ruffle Shirt in Roasted Olive and the other is Round Collar Tana Lawn Boy Shirt in Roasted Pepper. These were from their Fall 2007 collection. I had been eyeing these two for a long time, and J Crew marked them down to 79.99 which it stayed there for months. They finally marked the Suzannah shirts for 19.99 in late Spring and I managed to get the two out of three colors. The Round Collar Boy shirt still stayed at 79.99 then I never saw it again. Now for the final sale, they brought back some older stock and remarked the Suzannah and Round Collar Boy for 59.99 each. I figured it's still a great deal since I purchased the other two for 19.99 and the Liberty fabrics are so beautiful. The only thing is Round Collar Boy shirts are styled in a straight fit, which runs on the larger size. I bought a size 2, but would have been better off at 0. I never saw these in the store, only online. That's one of the drawbacks of the Final Sale, can't return when it doesn't fit.

I was in the store yesterday and they just marked down the short sleeve Slub Cotton Tees with the twisted crewneck and cuffed sleeves for 19.99 plus 25% off. They were 39.50. They are offered on J Crew for 19.99, but omitted from their sale site. I bought a navy xs, and the fit is great. I love the slub cotton texture!

    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod94458171&catId=cat302145

Does anyone have problems entering their coupon code? When I entered my IJN-160 code, J Crew said that the coupon has already expired.

In my opinon size up for this blouse. I usually wear 8's and I got a 10 in this blouse just now....If anyone wears a Tall I just bought the cherry bloosom print in this blouse! Awesome deal!

  90. IJN-160 did not work for me today either.21FS8301 still works.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Argh! IJN-160 did not work this a.m. In the time I messed around with it I only lost one item from my shopping bag (thank goodness)!

If I wasn't concerned about losing items I would've called CS but alas, I gave in & spent $150. This is my second order of the week...I am done! I need to block JCrew from my computer for until the end of July/August. I did order the Frances blouse in at T4. I really loved it when it came out but could not justify buying it for the price. (I'm pretty casual these days.)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Rach,
Congrats on the T4 blouse? Which color did you get? Last week I got the yellow and blue in a T10 and today I got the cherry blossom print today and I also decided to try the white in the regular size b/c no tall in white.

I agree I need a block on my computer through the end of next month on JCrew's website!!!!

I wouldn't even have tried this blouse if it weren't for this blog! HEE HEE.

  93. IJN-160 didn't work for me either. I got a pop-up survey from BizRate at the end of my purchase (again) and this is what I said to the Crew...

"I tried to use IJN-160, a free shipping code on purchases for over $100, that I received in my email. I was told this code had expired despite the fact that my email stated it didn't expire until July 5. Do you know what I did? I took $40 worth of merchandise out of my cart because I was unwilling to pay the high shipping fee for it. I can't believe J.Crew is willing to take away first free shipping without a minimum purchase amount, then free shipping for over $100, without notice and in different terms than the coupon I was emailed said. I have a J.Crew card and am a loyal J.Crew customer - I blog about J.Crew, I tell my friends about the sales - and I'm not sure I want to spend my money at a store that has so little appreciation for my business. If I am no longer able to get free shipping using the coupons that J.Crew emails me (let alone just with my credit card, like every single one of your peer brands does) then I guess I'll have to take more of my business to Banana Republic."

If I get a response like I did last time ("we'll pass this on to our consumer research panel") I'm going to call CS and complain. I did lose two polos that I really wanted in this whole hassle, but maybe I'll get them from somewhere with cheaper monogramming that actually lets me use free shipping codes!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yep, the IJN-160 cpde was expired when I tried to use it this morning, too. Soooo, that "forced" me to add more things to my cart. But I did get a polo shirt in pink that I'd been waiting to come back in my size and they'd marked the Caterina blouses down to $19.99, so I bought 2 of those, plus some other odds and ends.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Anon @ 809: I purchased the cherry blossom print! :)

I did not have proof of the IJN-160 coupon not expiring until 07/05/08. It would be great if someone has it & calls or emails JCrew. They'll probably give you a free shipping deal on your next order (wishful thinking). When I have ordered backordered items & the backordered items were cancelled, they have sent me an email notifying me & offer free shipping on my next purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Removing the shipping code the last day of a sale seems to be a regular pattern with J.Crew, and is just really absurd in itself, but the fact that the email stated that IJN-160 was valid until 7/5/08 and they removed it anyways is just totally UNACCEPTABLE and INEXCUSABLE! The disregard they are showing for their customers just never ceases to amaze...

On another note...any opinions on the Joelle Cami seen Here and the Joelle Blouse seen Here ...such as sizing, quality of material, etc.? Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. Heather C: have you already tried the Caterina blouses, and if so...is the fit true to size or did you size up/down? I had a couple of them in my shopping bag this morning, but since it is FS, and I don't know how they fit, I am leary to purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  98. You know there are some great deals in the sale section (like the Jessie blouses) but I don't want every shirt in my closet to be this same style.

I would love to see someone pick up the Stardust sequin cardigan!

And what's wrong with those Cabana Blue chino shorts? They're always there in the sale side. I don't own a pair. Are they too bright for the bum?

    ReplyDelete
  99. The free shipping code was not in an email- it was in the latest catalog I received. It explicitly says it's valid until July 5.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wow...didn't even know the IJN-160 wasn't in an email...Naomi shared it with us here back on June 13th...seems to make it even worse on J.Crew's part to remove a code that is in actual writing!

    ReplyDelete
  101. If you guys have a copy of the free shipping code with the valid expiration you should call JCrew. I have not known them to remove a coupon code before the expiration date. Maybe there's a glitch in their system. I did NOT receive the coupon in my catalog so maybe it was supposed to be for cardholders only? I have used it a few already so maybe they just figured it out?

FFM: I have the Catarina blouse in Blue Lagoon & a Navy one on the way. They are very fitted underneath the bosom (where you see the sash). Plus it has the side zipper so these tops are usually fitted in the rib area. I buy size 6 in button down tops & always size down to a size 4 in JCrews cami's & certain dresses. The Catarina also has that bit of a billowy look that's in style now but it is a super cute top to wear. I don't have the see through version but I wear a featherweight tank from last season under it because it's low in the chest area (for me). If I take a deep breath when wearing the top I definitely feel the snugness of this top. I'm a 34 B (small B) & like to be modest these days as I am a mommy. ;)

Also, if you're worried it's too tight you maybe could go up a size & tie the tash tighter in the rib area. But larger size means more fabric below the sash area & bulkier top right?

    ReplyDelete
  102. I received my catalog with the code a week after Naomi posted the code on here, so I guess my catalog was a little behind, but I'm assuming she got it from the same place? It seems too coincidental that J.Crew had a "glitch" in their system on the same morning that they added new things to the final sale with 25% off. I think this was intentional, which is just plain dishonest.

    ReplyDelete
  103. FFM: This other blog, "jcrewaholic" has reviews regarding Catarina and Joelle tops. Havent' read how to insert links yet but here's one way to get to it: jcrewaholic.blogspot.com/2008/04/editors-picks-for-spring-2008.html

Sometimes the page takes a minute to load.

Alexis: I hope it's okay to mention another blog. This other blog hasn't been updated by the owner in a while...that's what made me search & how I found yours :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hi Everyone! I have been reading the comments about the IJN-160 code situation. I created its own post to make conversations/sharing easier: Free Shipping Code Update.

Thanks to all those who let us know that the coupon was not working (like Slastena, Five Tomatoes, Heather C.), and for those who let us know that the code wasn't suppose to expire yet (like Lynn). :)

Hopefully this is a hiccup in their system and not that the code is really expired.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Also, a big "thank you!!!" to all those here who have shared with us their reviews. I have found them all to be super insightful. :)

Rach: It is completely okay to mention other sites if it helps us J.Crew Aficionadas learn more! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Re the Caterina blouse, originally I had sized up to a 14 for this blouse thinking that b/c I'm a bit bustier (36D) it would be better to size up so I wouldn't be "constrained" :) however I found that the 14 had a bit of room in the bust area, which I didn't mind however below the bust it was MUCH too billowy and made me look a LOT bigger than I am...so for anyone looking for the Caterina blouse and worried about the bust measurements, call in to customer service to get the exact measurements for your size and I think you'll find it will probably be your regular size...

    ReplyDelete
  107. Regarding those flips flops with the navy blue base: has anyone else stopped buying them because of the color it leaves on the bottom of your feet? I have a load of them but wish JCrew would use the natural color base instead of the blue.

    ReplyDelete
  108. OK, said I wasn't going to, but I broke down and ordered a few items from the final sale:

madras cap: after the 25% off, it ended up costing $5.24--an amazing deal considering the original price was $48!

I got another hat, the cotton twill beach hat in white. I've been looking for a simple, wide-brimmed summer hat that wasn't straw, and this one is perfect for me.

I also ordered the Candace jacket (cardigan) in sweet orange, regular $138, and $37.49 at the final sale. I love the updated jackie o style sweaters jcrew has been offering lately!

I really wanted to get a metallic skinny belt, but they only have M and L left. Also wanted the Moroccan cocktail ring but would like to see it in person before buying. Doesn't look like it is available now, anyway.

  109. Fabulousfloridamommy - These are the first Caterina tops I've purchased. I tried to buy one right before this 25% off sale started, and the order went through, but then I got an email saying the item was cancelled. So, this morning's order hopefully will go through. I got the floral one in Blue Lagoon to wear with white bottoms and the Orange polka dot one to wear with white or demin bottoms. I'm currently in the process of losing weight and since my old size ws a 14, I ordered a 12 in these tops. If they're too tight now, which I doubt they will be, I should be able to fit into them in another few weeks. I'll try to update once they get here. I don't have a tummy to hide, so I'm hoping they're not TOO blousy below that sash. I figure at the worst, if they won't ever fit, I can sell them on Ebay or trade them on some forum somewhere!

Rach - I bought those Cabana blue chino shorts this morning! They're a little shorter than my usual shorts inseam (7-9"), but they were a good price and I've had my eye on them for a while. I bought the same chino shorts in Roasted Pepper in the 9" length last month and they were very pretty. But I'm one for bright bottoms during the summer, so it's not a big deal for me. I think the Cabana blue will look great with my wide assortment of white shirts, tank tops...or even light pink or yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Rach - one more thing....I have a load of those navy-bottomed flip flops too. They're so cute and comfy, but if my feet get hot or I wear them for long periods of time, they do turn the soles of my feet blue! I try to just wear them when I know I won't have them on all day. I also bought a pair of the tan-bottomed madras plaid ones this year and they're great. No feet stains!

  112. To FFM;
I have 2 Joelle blouses ( grey and royal purple) and love them both (at the sale price) .:) Would not purchase at the full price b.c of very very thin and delicate silk ( I have a suspicion after 1st wash fabric would rip). I got them size 0 although I am 4-6 in top and busty. They are really flowy. I don't think of them as singular items, more of layering pieces. Don't have cami, so can't commene on that.

About Lily cashmere cardigan- have in Geranium in XS, really like it with jeans. It's not as form fitting as other cardigans so I would recommend sizing down even for busty gals.

Frances blouse -got in cherry blossom print, adorable, but my regular size 4 is perfect everywhere except the bust area, recommend sizing up if C and above cup; otherwise slip or tank underneath is a must. Same goes for katarina tops. I bought size 6 and still have to wear slip.:)

  113. I live in California and I go to the J.Crew store in Thousand Oaks pretty frequently. They had 25% off all final sale (the same items that are on sale online) the whole last week for sure. I went on Friday and purchased a size 0 Embossed Beach Lydia Halter dress in bright berry for $37.49. (Here) I wore it that day to a party and I could not be happier with it. It fit me perfectly and I loved the color.

I also tried on the Fiji Floral Zoey dress and I really liked it. It never jumped out at me online, but it looked really good when I tried it on at the store. They only had size 2 and 12 though, and it was significantly more expensive than the beach dress, so I opted for the cheaper and better fitting.

By the way, I really love this blog. Thanks, Alexis!

  114. I am really eyeing the patent shoes - the Cleo t-strap or the maryjane peeptoes. Has anyone tried or bought these? I'm very curious as to the softness of the patent leather. Given my wondrous foot structure, it would really help if the leather of the shoe had a little give (like the leather of the original maryjanes). Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  115. What do people think of the gathered sweater dress? I like the shape, but it seems as if it might be a little sheer - 14-gauge cashmere and all.

  117. Hi everyone!

First of all I just wanted to thank Alexis for starting this amazing blog. I follow it religiously, and have certainly appreciated the comments and suggestions. Thanks Alexis!! I've been obsessed with J.Crew for years, and even worked in their retail stores during college!

I have purchased many of the summer items and even quite a few during the final sale. I get nervous about buying shoes because they don't always fit true to size. My question is, has anyone purchased or tried on the Peep-toe Mary Janes?

    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod88555153

I have been lusting over these for months now but I'm trying to justify spending that much on them!

    Thanks for your input!

  118. To everyone wondering about the Metallic Brushtroke Antonia Dress: I am wearing it right now, and I like it! The material is a little rougher than I thought it would be, but the gold print is very nice. The fit is a bit loose, but not in an unattractive way - I am 5'9" and typically a size 4 or 6, and I ordered this dress in a 6. It does not slip off my shoulders, and hits about 6 inches above the knee.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Oooh, surfside! You just got me all excited to get my metallic antonia dress! I should be getting it tomorrow! Thank you for sharing! =)

  120. Heather C:
I have the Morroccan cocktail ring (got it for around $30 at the last 20% off sale) and I love it. It's really pretty---I get compliments every time I wear it. I'm sure it'll turn back up in the sale section one of these days...

  121. hi FFM:
i have the joelle blouse in regal purple and love it (although i have yet to wear it :)). i REALLY love the color regal purple...the material is very thin and delicate as slastena said but very pretty. i have a light heather grey fitted cardigan (dream cable from winter) that i plan on wearing over it...it's a great layering piece but i also think that because the royal purple is dark, i can get away with it on its own (or maybe a nude cami under). i love it with jeans. it is flowy but i like the way it hangs. i would definitely buy it for the price it is now in royal purple. i bought it for full price thinking that it would sell out quickly but to my surprise it is still around!! i did one return/repurchase on it so ended up paying $59 for it and i'm happy enough with that :) for the price it is now, it would still be a great layering piece even if you can't wear it on it's own :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. oh, also regarding the joelle blouse in regal purple...not only do i love it with regular dark wash jeans (my matchsticks of course), i love the regal purple with my new grey overdyed matchstick jeans...it's one of my favorite color combinations with a yellow clutch or something...i also love the burnished moss with the grey jeans and a yellow or orange accessory...:)

  124. I purchased all of my sale items in the 20% off sale before final sale began (thankfully, as I had MANY sizing issues), and I just received my last shipment yesterday. So here are my reviews:

    1. Cynthia Sweater Dress (#93880) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93880212&_requestid=65813 – I originally ordered this in the bright papaya in medium since I had been lusting after it since it came out. When I got it in the mail, it was huge on me. Luckily my local store had the small, and I was able to exchange it. It is a great weekend dress in a beautiful, summery color. The sleeves have a little puff to them and are adorable! So I definitely recommend it, but I would say size down and prepare to wear a cami if you are busty (the V is a bit low). Price: $31.99

    2. Polka-Dot Bow Skirt (#90966) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod90966212&_requestid=67480 – Love this skirt! I ordered it in the sweet papaya. (For those wondering about the difference between sweet papaya and bright papaya, the sweet is definitely pink while the bright is more of a coral. Or at least that is my experience with the skirt and dress). It is a full skirt but looks wonderful with a nice fitted top because the wider waistband and sash really define the waist. It also has the wonderful added bonus feature of pockets! So I definitely recommend this as well. Price $47.99

    3. Briar Rose Paisley Bamboo Halter (#95203) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod95203153&catId=cat90252 and Briar Rose Paisley Bamboo Hipster (#95636) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod95636153&catId=cat90252 – Here is another item that I had been lusting for ever since I saw it in the catalog. I own several J.Crew swimsuits so sizing isn’t really an issue for me in ordering swimsuits on-line. (Sidenote: I still have a black J.Crew swimsuit from over 5 years ago that I wear all the time, and it has never faded. Wonderful quality!) I wasn’t expecting to like this item because of the bamboo pieces on the side of the bottoms and on the top. I thought that they would be uncomfortable and dig into my sides (and we all know what that looks like in a swimsuit – yikes!). To my surprise though, the “wear-tested-for-comfort” line is true. It is comfortable and beyond cute! Can’t wait for the beach in a few weeks… Price: $27.99 and $23.99

    4. Brushstroke-Print Chessy Jacket (#93407) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93407153&catId=cat90227 – This item was waitlisted until the middle of July, but I got it yesterday. I rushed home at lunch to try it on since I know that the UPS man comes to my apartment at 9:30 (yes, I know it is scary that I know that) and promptly decided that it looked horrible on me because it was so flowy around the waist. Not defining the waist usually doesn’t work for me. But then after work, my boyfriend asked me to try it own and show it to him, and when I did I loved it! Here is why…When I tried it on at lunch I was wearing a wide leg pant, and then after work, I was wearing a fitted jean. Such a difference! :) So even though I think I should have maybe gotten a size smaller although I’m unsure because I have broader shoulders, I’m definitely keeping it. The print is gorgeous, the material silky, and the flame very flattering (by the way, more orange than red). I would recommend getting your size if you have broader shoulders, and a size down if not. Price: $63.99

    5. Lilah Dress (#93923) http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod93407153&catId=cat90227 – This was a surprise buy for me in the store a couple weekends ago while helping my boyfriend pick out some shorts. I bought it in the regal purple which seems much more of a cobalt blue than purple to me. Again, I had to size down (which I recommend) from a medium to a small because it was roomy and the armholes were huge. Also as someone mentioned above, it is a great interlock cotton that gives it a lot of definition and shape. Although the model shows the tie around the waist, I’m 5’9” and the tie definitely hit me higher, almost as an empire waist. But I love it that way! It will be great for dinner and drinks this summer with cute wedges. Price: $22.94 (Steal!)

Ok, that is all! Sorry for the EXTREMELY long post, but I hope that this is as helpful for others as all of your posts have been for me! :) I’m really starting to cave about the Frances blouse...

    ReplyDelete
  125. Oh my I totally agree about the Lilah dress! I absolutely love it both for its super comfortable fit and the versatility. Like its.a.southern.thing I got the regal purple and find that it looks incredible with silver capri sandals (which I wore with it this past weekend to rave reviews!) and heels alike. Again remember the arm holes are huge and I found that the XS fit me perfectly after I threw it in the dryer to shirnk it up a tad.

  127. FFM: the Amelia Tank runs pretty true to size. I wear an XS/0 in Regular tops but sometimes they don't hit at the top of my hip. The P2 in these tops hits exactly where it is supposed to. I love them soooooo much that I bought Navy (this morning) as well as the others that I mentioned earlier.

  129. Has anyone tried on the Metallic bow belt yet? Is it meant to be worn around low rise pants, or is it small enough to wear high on the waist (say around a trapeze style dress?) I was considering getting the crew-cuts version on sale since it would most likely fit a waist but I think I'd prefer silver. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  130. I bought a LOT of things during this sale, and I could probably buy a lot more if my fiance wouldn't kill me haha. I recently lost a lot of weight, and most of my clothes are too big for me (I am selling a lot of things on eBay that are either brand new or only worn a couple of times).

So anyway, I wanted to get a lot of basics. I was wary because I don't have any experience with J.Crew outside a couple of knit dresses, but I have to say that everything I have received so far has fit nicely (more is on the way, haha). I purchased:

Favorite-fit everyday chino in navy and khaki: I am usually a 4 or 6 in pants, and I thought about how Banana Republic, Gap, and Express pants have fit and decided to go with the 6. They are perfect through the legs, but gape a tiny bit in the back of the waste. I'm curvy, so I'm kind of used to that. It's nothing that a belt doesn't fix though; you can't see it at all. Just curious though - Does J.Crew have a pant that is designed for a curvier fit? These are awesome and will no doubt become a staple for me, but I'd like to explore other options.

Striped Kelly shirt in white and soft azalea: I LOVE this shirt. It is exactly what I was looking for in a button-down. I see that now they also have powder blue on sale, and I am disappointed because I would love to pick that up. I took a chance ordering it in white too, even though that wasn't on sale, and I am so glad I did. I am clerking for a judge this year, and will definitely be ordering more of these in the future - they are great for work!

Prima stretch wool solid one-button jacket in black: I needed a black blazer for general wear, like over a button-down with jeans and some pumps for a classic look. I ordered this in a 4 because I tend to be smaller up top than on the bottom, but I was scared I picked the wrong size. The look turned out to be exactly what I was going for; it's fitted, but with enough stretch that it doesn't pull when I wear a shirt underneath it. This will serve me very well.

Tie-front dress in soft azalea: The color is in no way "soft", but it's still pretty. It's bright and summery, although I see everyone's point about the clingy-ness in the back. I will need to be particular about what I wear underneath, but with the right undergarment it should be fine. Otherwise I think the fit is very flattering.

Kayla Dress in black: This dress is SO cute! I was afraid b/c someone had said the arm holes are huge, but they were fine on me. This is a cute LBD for summer, and I will get a lot of wear out of this - it's comfortable AND flattering.

That's what I received today, but there is more coming. I'll update when I receive them!

  131. I just got the katie sweater in germanium, and I really love it! I like how the color goes with my hair, but I'm wondering..does anyone have any tips on what to wear with this? I'm afraid I'll look overly bright/clownish with all the ruffles, should this jacket be worn with lighter colors and jeans?
I'm afraid I'm a bit of a color-blind fashion fanatic, if there ever was one.. :)

  133. LP: I love the slub cotton ball trim cami's & after today's order have them in 4 colors. I tuck it into my chino shorts & pull it out a tad. I'm not crazy for the flowy shirt look.

heather c.: Exactly-I'm on the same page w/you regarding colored shorts. That's why I was wondering why the cabana blue color didn't sell out yet. I'm holding out until the price gets into the teens. Last year I seem to recall the chino shorts coming down quite a bit by the end.

What about the 5" madras in hibiscus? I wonder why they haven't sold out too. Am I among the few who like the Hibiscus madras?

  134. Hi Mischa...there is actually a post where several of us gave ideas on how to wear the Katie Sweater Jackets...maybe Alexis knows which one it is...I have searched but cannot find it...do you know Alexis?

For the Geranium Jacket I would wear a white tank with Khaki Wide Leg Pants or Trouser Jeans and wear it buttoned up all the way. You could actually wear numerous colors of tank tops under the jacket...just make sure that the saturation of the color of the tank matches that of the jacket. :)

  138. Has anyone seen or tried the cashmere rosette cardigans? Best price on it? How does it look or fit? I have been watching these:)

First, love this blog, never thought I would find anyone else as JCrew obsessed--there are many of us!

    So far I have received:

    Joelle Cami, in Navy:
Love the square neck of this, I actually like the cami better than the short sleeve blouse. Love the navy color and the fact that it has a side zip--because of this I ordered the smaller of the sizes I sometimes wear, and I am glad I did, the fit is nice!

    Merino Tunic, in Sour Lemon:
This color is a bit limey, but pretty and great with white pants and a tan, ha. I ordered a medium instead of my usual large and I think thats the key as the fit is nicer and not baggy. It hits below the hip and looks good with white jeans or blue jeans. I love this Merino fabric they have, so I recommend this one!

    Embroidered Linen Tunic, Navy:
Just got this today and it is pretty, I like the longer cut (hits high thigh) and I plan on wearing it with Bermudas or white jeans. I do think order down as I can tell it doesn't need to be big and it will probably give a bit at the hip. I think this would be a great coverup as well.

Hopefully arriving in a box tonight for me:

    Polka Dot Navy Lia Blouse
    Yellow Elizabeth Halter
Python Silk Tank in Black (was like $15)

Stay tuned! I had another idea with these reviews...what if we made a post where people could post items that didn't work for them but they can't return? One girls "bad final sale item" might be another girls treasure!

  139. I have just received the metallic Antonia brushstroke dress, and it is gorgeous! It's a little longer than I thought that it would be (although, I AM 5 ft. tall and ordered a petite size in the dress). It comes down to right above my knees. Also, it is very roomy from the waist down, but just right up top in the shoulder and chest area. I MIGHT have it taken in a teensy bit.

I also received the brushstroke silk tunic. I just love how J.Crew incorporates pockets into their tops and skirts. This tunic has pockets at the side seams, very much like the early version of the Elizabeth halter (the later versions, I noticed, didn't have the pockets). I was afraid that the sleeves would cut my upper arms, but the sleeve openings are big without the armholes themselves being comfortable. I usually get a size 10/12P in J.Crew tops, and I got a 12P. The color of this tunic is a very vivid (I would say, ocean) blue.

I also gave in today (before the additional 25% ends!) and bought the cashmere biarritz dress in gray and the peep-toe maryjanes in autumn berry (I couldn't pass these up, down from $198 to 74.99!)! I will also be looking forward to getting my new Joelle blouse in regal purple. All this talk about the Joelle blouse got me jonesin' for one!

  142. I am considering the "everyday flats"...does anyone have any thoughts on these? Are they comfortable/cute? I don't have a store nearby to see for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Does anyone have the j crew brushstroke rose bateau top? I got the orange on sale (but it was waitlisted) and now it showed up on final sale today, so I hope they've shipped mine out! Eager to hear what you think about it. What is the material like? It looks kind of heavy and structured?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Another question on the Joelle blouse: what does the Regal Purple look like in person? It doesn't really look "purple" online, almost like a cross between purple and sapphire...they have them available in my size again this morning, so I am considering getting one (after all your great reviews), even though they aren't an addt'l. 25% off anymore. Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. FFM: I don't have the Joelle blouse, but I do have the Lilah dress in regal purple. And to be honest, when I bought it in the store, I had no idea that it was called regal purple. I would almost call it a cobalt blue with a little purple undertone. All in all, very pretty and flattering. (I'm blue eyed, and it made my eyes really pop!) I think that the blouse color would probably be very similar though.

    ReplyDelete
  146. FFM: Your instincts are right--it's closer to a sapphire blue than a purple. In fact, I wouldn't call it a purple at all.

It also runs really, REALLY huge. I normally wear a size 0P (or 2P, if the top is very fitted) and the size 0 was like a tent on me. I had purchased a "large" ruffle cardigan (it was $15!!)...and when put on top of each other, those have virtually the same measurements

    ReplyDelete
  147. I have to say I'm happy to have purchased the pencil sateen skirt in every color they had. I love it. Along with many other shirts and jewelry.

BUT I HAVE A CONCERN: I am a teacher and I went to ask for my discount and they told me they don't accept that offer at the "concept stores". Now I thought perhaps it was just because of the sale -that I understand - but then they explained that is for all items at all times. Is this true, or was I misinformed? Teachers? Students? Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  148. jrl, where abouts do you live, if I may ask? I don't know what a "concept store" is, per se. But it sounds like someone is giving you the run-around.

Regarding the sale, actually, all I got were five slub-cotton tees, which I love. I'm a bit envious reading through all the posts at how many things others found, but for some reason, I never get as much from J.Crew's spring & summer offerings as I do fall/winter :-)

    ReplyDelete
  149. This is a great blog. I love the idea of being able to hear about items from people who have seen them in person, since I live 2 hours from the closest store.

During the sale I bought the amelia tank in lime green and the cashmere tunic in papaya. I love the amelia tank and already had it in another color. Just be aware that the straps are really long and WILL need to be shortened no matter how chesty you are.

The cashmere tunic seemed like a good chance to buy something for fall and spring. Even in the summertime here in PA it can be cool enough for sweaters. In fact, I am wearing a j.crew cardigan right now! haha

    ReplyDelete
  150. I have the cashmere rosette cardi in gray/white stripe and I love it! Super soft, good quality and LOVE the roses......perfect. Wish it came in colors other than orange and yellow...I would buy another.

    ReplyDelete
  151. JLiz: Congrats on your purchases! I ordered the Elizabeth halter also, and am worried it will be too "billowy" - has anyone else tried it on? It might have been a risky final sale item.

I wanted to get the Joelle cami but couldn't decide on a color since I have the blouse in the regal purple and the navy was out. (I definitely thought the navy was the best color option).

I also was confused on sizes because I found the Joelle cami to be very roomy and flowy and also the fabric was a bit flimsy. Because you have to pull it over your head, I went with a 4 instead of 2. It is very tent-like, as auryane mentioned, and it is starting to come undone in the underarm seam on one side! I ordered the gold/brown color as well, in a 2, and the fit is better but still fairly loose.

I placed an order on final sale on Friday and it still hadn't shipped on Tuesday, so I called and the store adjusted for the 25% additional off. It shipped yesterday and I am waiting for:

Shrunken cashmere cardigan in Bright Ocean
    Elizabeth halter in yellow
    Tidepool belt
Bordered Brim Straw Hat in Navy/Multi
(I know, when will I wear this? I couldn't resist.)

  152. papaya - I'm not too crazy at J Crew's shoes. I recently purchased their Liv Metallic Ballet Flats #90724 in size 6 and was unhappy with their quality. The leather is hard and thin as well as the soles on their shoes. Last year I purchased their Harper Loafers, but they ended up hurting my feet. The back part of the shoe rubbed against my skin, so they weren't crafted that well. Personally, just stick with their clothing and pass on the shoes.

  153. FabulousFloridaMommy: You are AWESOME! You are such a wonderful asset to this blog. I was reading the comments and saw you were able to answer/help with a lot of the questions/posts. I just wanted to write and say "Thank you so much!!!" :)

MSM: Black is my favorite color for dresses! :) Like you said, you can dress it up with color.

Vivian: Being a J.Crew size 2 is fantastic, especially impressive after being pregnant! Many of my friends would be envious to be a size 2 (and they don't have any kids). :)

Incidentally, I am also lusting after the jeweled posy flats. :) I am also curious as to how others feel about the flat.

Anonymous at 6:01 PM: I don't blame you one bit! The Frances Blouse is exceptionally nice. :)

JRL: I have no idea what a J.Crew "concept store" is, and now I am completely curious as to what that means. :) Incidentally, you should have been able to receive your educator's discount. I am sure if you called customer service and explained what happen, they would reimburse you the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Thank you for your thoughts. I don't know what a concept store is either and when i asked they said that "this particular store is the one that gets all the new line items first". What?!?! I am going to call customer service. Let's see what happens. I'll be back! :-)

Oh, I live in Northern NJ.

    ReplyDelete
  155. JRL: Their definition of a "concept store" sounds interesting. ;) Although, that doesn't seem like a reason to not give you your discount. Please let us know what happens after you call customer service. :)

  156. Alexis: Thank you so much for the compliment...I'm glad to know you don't mind me "chiming in" with answers and suggestions. ;) LOVE THIS BLOG!!!!! :) Thanks again for creating it!

  157. FabulousFloridaMommy:

i wish i could write in earlier but being on the west coast i'm late to all these discussions!! anyway, about the joelle blouse. it is a loose fitting blouse but that is the style of it. i am a size 0 top and this blouse is loose on me but i think that it is supposed to look like that. the shoulders fit me fine. i've seen it shown by itself in the spring lookbook preview when it was on the web (maybe back in Feb.?) and it was loose on the model too. she tied a yellow flower belt around it. for me, it's nice to have something different and i do like it on it's own and it is definitely a pretty layer. it would be great if you could try the next size down to see how it works. i just tried typing 91336U and it works with no final sale listing!!! try them!

...and the regal purple is not purple at all...it's more like a bright sapphire blue. a very striking color :) hope this helps! :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. I just wanted to say that I have taken to selling anything I possibly can on eBay so that I can subsidize the amount of clothes I bought in the final sale and not feel completely guilty, haha :) Ladies, I think I have a problem!

Today I received the Kelly sweater in navy, and it's really cute. The fit is really nice; it's a low-key sweater that will dress up a jeans and fitted t-shirt day, or I could wear it with trousers for work. I love that about J.Crew's clothes!

    ReplyDelete
  159. So after a long hold, they basically said they had no idea what that guy was talking about and credited me the discount. Also, they had no idea what a concept store meant either and said that if anyone gave me that story at that same store or any other again to have them call customer service right then and there. Pretty cool. I was so happy that I ordered the Strapless Pique dress right then and there. :-)

Thank you Alexis for this site and your comment. As silly as it seems, I would not have thought to call customer service. J.Crew has done a great job with their clothing and I'm now in love with their customer service. Yay!

  160. I wanted to know if anyone else was buying the boys's crewcuts items for themselves. I really REALLY miss the J.Crew cottom roll neck sweaters (and the very resonable prices) so I ordered the boy's roll neck in and XXL. I usually wear a medium in J.Crew sweaters and I found the rollneck to be super cute. I wear it with a white button down underneath and flip the color up. The sleeves are a tiny bit short but no one notices when you have your shirt cuffs sticking out. I was thinking of trying this with the girls stuff next so I will let everyone know.

    ReplyDelete
  161. crewgal: that's so funny. i still have my wool rollneck sweater in oatmeal from like 10 years ago or something. i tried to shrink it to make it more fitted but it didn't turn out that great :) glad to know that the boys ones will work...you can pretend that the sweater is supposed to have 3/4 sleeves! i might have to try one sometime!!

  164. Has anyone bought or tried on the Pastille Dress (#91830)? I think it is really cute, but it seems to have been in sale a very long time. Anyone have any thoughts/experiences?

    ReplyDelete
  165. FabulousFloridaMommy: You are a great resource! I am seriously lucky to have you "chiming in". Please keep up the fantastic advice!!! :)

Michelle: That is a great system of selling your older clothes to make room for the new! :)

JRL: Fantastic! I am happy to hear they credited you the difference. Thanks for keeping us posted too! I loved hearing that this situation has a happy ending! :)

ccbmum: Thanks again for the nice compliment. The blog is only great because of everyone's contribution to it. :)

Also, Congrats on your son starting preschool- that is a major milestone! :)

Dawn: Congrats on the purchases- it looks like you found some great pieces at some really great prices!!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. itsasouthernthing,

I have the pastille dress in citron. I commented on it a few times in previous posts, but it's probably buried deeply by now. I really like the dress and the color. The fabric is soft and light, but substantial. You can feel the weight of the little metal discs, but they are not too heavy. It is supposed to be a little trapeze-y, but the small was just too big in the armholes and neck, so I have to downsize. It's a very cute summer dress, and I'm going to throw a grey turtneck plus boots and tights so I can get more wear out of it when the weather cools.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Heather: Thanks for reposting your thoughts about the Pastille Dress! :) Considering your comments and that I've had to size down on the last two J.Crew dresses I bought, it sounds like I should go for a smaller size. I'm still secretly hoping that the price will drop one more time before I go for it though... :)

  168. I just found this blog a few days ago, and I'm already addicted! I made quite a haul in the 25% off sale, and as I was reading this blog, my first of two orders came via UPS. I recently lost a lot of weight, and I was worried about sizing, but everything, for the most part, fits great.

    1. Halter embossed beach dress, size 6 in Bright Berry: Cute dress, but I worry that I look more flat-chested than usual (I am barely a B cup). Also, for those with larger cup sizes, there's not a lot of material around the top, so I would recommend going to the store and trying this on first for anyone larger than a C cup.

2.Solid Frances blouse, sour lemon, in Tall 6. J Crew rarely makes non-button down shirts available in Tall sizes, so I was excited. It fits great, but I worried at first b/c I didn't see the side zipper and could barely get it over my head. The bright yellow color looks great with dark jeans.

    3. City-fit cuffed heritage chino trouser in Navy, Tall 6. Plenty long enough for me (I am 5'11") and the cuffs dress these pants up.

    4. Nubuck flip-flops: Paid under $12 and they seem comfy walking around my apartment, since the leather straps are so soft.

    5. Favorite-fit everyday chino in Khaki, size Tall 6: Very long and true to size. The fabric is so soft too, as most of J Crew khakis are. So much higher quality than the Gap. (Sorry, Gap!)

    6. Jeweled posy patent-leather flats in Black: OK, these look super-cute, but they make even my narrow feet look wide. Also, the top doesn't quite cover my toes, so I have "toe cleavage" going on. I was hoping to wear these with a skirt, but now I'm thinking they are better suited for pants. Has anyone else bought these?

I have one more package headed my way, with the Rebecca Silk Tricotine dress and the favorite fit cropped chinos. Hopefully, I will be as happy with that package as I am with the first.

  169. Ann Taylor has certain stores referred to as "go" stores that carry trendier items. Certain department stores are listed as "A", "B", "C" & "D" stores. The letters corresponded with the income level or affluency of the area.

ccbmum: I feel your pain! I refer to my son's first day of kindergarten as "he*l" day. Sorry, this is not the forum but I had to let you know you struck a cord with me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  170. thanks rach! i thought it might be somewhat related to this blog...like "when do you most feel the need to shop at jcrew?"...ha ha...ok, maybe not...that would be all the time. :P

    ReplyDelete
  171. I got my order from the final sale...before they started the 25% off. I got a pair of 5" chino shorts in navy....love J. Crew chino...it's such a nice weight and has a "quality" feel to it. Also, got 3 Emily blouses. I'm not absolutely in love with them, but since they're final sale, they'll do. They are all cut a tad bit boxy through the body. There's no "nipping in" near the waist of seaming to make them fit close to the body. But that being said, they're loose and will be cool for hot GA summers. The pink stripe is a thicker material...almost like a light oxford. The armholes are cut smaller in this one that either of the other two and I may have it altered...or just lose more weight. The swiss dot is gorgeous and will look great with white burmudas. Also, got the sour lemon bunny print which is cute, but very sheer...will have to wear a camisole underneath. The stripe and swiss dot don't need camisoles, really. Anyway, that's what I got in this order. My 25% off order should be here Tuesday.

  172. Has anyone seen this or ever had it: Ottoman Molly Jacket.

    http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod88878153&catId=cat90227

It looks cute but I bet there is only one in stock! Thoughts, thanks all!

    ReplyDelete
  173. ccbmum: THANK YOU for the item link to the Joelle Blouse, and for the link to the J.Crew Sneak Peak, too...I love the coat in the last picture: the orangeish one in the middle with the bow at the neck...so girly! ;)

Thanks to everyone who gave information on the different items I asked about!!! It's really been alot of help! :)

jliz: I LOVE that Ottoman Molly Jacket, but have never seen it in person...I was actually looking at it earlier today to get and put away for next Fall/Winter, but now it is sold out in my size. :( Oh well, it's probably for the best...I really need to NOT buy anything. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  174. Jliz, I've seen the molly ottoman jacket in stores but didn't try it on. The fabric was much nicer than I expected, heavier and more substantial and structured. I actually remember seeing it online for $59.99 at some point earlier this spring so it looks as if the price went up!

  175. WOO HOO! I finally got the Via Vittoria jacket!! Selected it & checked out right away, no messing around. I've been after them for a while now. Yeah! Happy Friday :)

  176. Sorry for all of the questions, but which color is more "go to" for the Frances blouse: Aqua or the Yellow? I know people love the blouse and I want to too, but not sure which color to get!

    Let me know your faves....

  177. Hi, I'm MsM and I have a JCrew problem. I went in to the store today with the intention of picking up the Heathered French Market Tee (the grey with the blue print with the white cow). It just looked so cute! Well, the Japanese ringspun cotton is gross! It's a stretchy, mesh like material. I put it down before even fully picking it up it was so scratchy! Dejected, I started to wander around the store. I came home with three wonderful purchases. I'm reading "America's Queen" (Jackie Kennedy) and I think she possessed me while in the store....I was much more adventurous than I normally am. I went outside my comfort zone both in colors and prints.
Here's what I came home with:
    1. Riveria Boat Neck Crew, Poppy (item 95147). It's a great heavier weight, 3/4 sleeve. Normally I would have gotten the navy, but I was living on the edge and bought the poppy. We're in a heat wave right now, but I can't wait for a cool night to wear it! This is a new item, so it's $49.50, but I got to use my teacher discount! Yay!
    2. Printed Ruffle Shift (item 94682) in "moss" (why it's called moss I don't know-it's pink, not greenish). I ADORE THIS!!! The girl in the store said it was a beach coverup. I'll be wearing it with white jeans and silver sandals as a tunic. I can't wait for a girls night out! I normally wear a medium or large (i'm a 38D). I bought this in a small and it fits!! plus: on sale for $29.99
    3. I got linen shorts that are same print as the Fiji Floral Linen Mini (item 93392). I'll wear this with my green Elizabeth ruffle halter and a pair of cute heels for a night out. These were also on sale for $29.99

  178. It's a southern thing & Michelle: Thanks for the amazing reviews!!! :)

Misha: I think the Katie Sweater in Germanium would look great with a pair of dark jeans. :) Congrats on the purchase!!!

I think FabulousFloridaMommy & Misha there is another post on the Katie Sweater as well: Love it or Leave it: Sale Items Review

Rach: I agree- reading other people's comments here have made me buy more at J.crew! :)

JLiz: It is great to know there are many of us J.Crew Aficionadas out here!! :) Also, congrats on your great purchases!

  179. Papaya: I like most of J.Crew's flats. They are not the most comfortable flats in the world, but they are fine as long as you wear stockings. :)

JLiz: I would get the True Aqua if you only could choose one color between the two. (Incidentally, I own both colors and ordered the white as well.) But you really can't go wrong with either color. :)

  180. I got 5 cashmere sweaters--I live in Northern California and it's chilly all year (BTW, FFM, I cracked up when I read you want to wear more jeans, sweaters and boots.I wear these every day, almost, I have about 7 days a year where it's hot enough to wear shorts and a tank.) I got the Mina Jacket and it's just...weird. I got a medium and I guess I should have gotten a small or extra small. The sleeves don't look like they are 3/4, they just look too short. and the sweater is very loose. So, HELP, since this was a final sale and I spent $187 on it, could I please get some styling tips to save this purchase? Thank so much--love the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  181. Anonymous at 6:11pm: so funny! It seems like just the opposite for me...some years it seems as if we only get 7 days to wear boots, coats, etc...I hope to convince my husband to move someplace else in the not so distant future! ;)

About the Mina Jacket: if it is REALLY not what you were expecting and does NOT fit right, then you should call Custormer Service and ask to return it, or at least just get a JCrew credit to purchase something else! Just explain that it does NOT fit at all, and that you purchaed that size according to their size charts (I'm assuming you did), and that you don't feel you should be out that much money because the size chart was inaccurate. If they say no, then ask to speak to a supervisor...they are usually fairly accomodating when it comes to fit issues (at least they used to be). What color of jacket did you get?

    ReplyDelete
  182. FFM--It worked! I pretty much read to CS what you wrote about fit, and ordering according to their size chart, etc. So a GIANT thanks to you! I got the jacket in the navy and they are now totally sold out of it--they only have the red (geranium, I think) left, which doesn't work for me (but may work for someone else reading this blog).

    ReplyDelete
  183. I am proud that I didn't "cave in" to the final sale. I stuck to my guns! Will wait it out. I used to actually work at JCrew and I don't agree with people trying to get around the final sale by finding items that don't have final sale listed by them by searching for them a different way. Seems a bit "shaddy":) Sorry I love a deal too but not going to cheat.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Hi Anonymous with the Mina Jacket! ;) I am so glad that CS was accomodating about returning your jacket...it's really frustrating to spend so much on a piece that doesn't fit, so I'm really happy you will be able to get your money back! Besides...if you are anything like me when it comes to J.Crew, that money will just go right back to them with other purchases, anyways...they really aren't losing out on any money at all. GRIN

    ReplyDelete
  185. Rach - I'm also lusting after the Via Vittoria jacket. Which color did you get? I'm sorta undecided between the Via Vittoria and the Casa Rossa (both in white). Would love to hear opinions about the two jackets! Thanks - Viv
