Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Everlane has a new denim release called the Super Straight.
I tried the cheeky straight and the 90s cheeky. They’re high waisted and fit well at the top, I just find the leg is narrower through the ankle than what I’d consider a straight leg,
The leg on the super straight is wider from hip to ankle. I ordered two sizes/lengths and two washes, one very retro dark wash with a cuff. I also ordered the cheeky bootcut which I’ve been considering for awhile.
If not I have several pairs I already love but it’s fun to try something a little different.

    2. I never love their model shots but they show a pic of the cuffed one via email and on IG, styled with white ballet flats and a blazer and it looks good.

    5. Reporting back. Would you believe I got the Everlane Super Straight jeans already?!
Cuffed dark indigo: I really like these. They have a retro vibe, I feel very 1950s ish in them. Size wise They fit similar to the cheeky straight from Everlane. My smaller jean size fits. The larger size up also works if I wanted them a little more oversized. The color is not an inky blue, it’s a little more muted but no distressing. I think they’d wear in really nicely. The denim is not super heavy. Theyd work well in all seasons. Uncuffed they’re super long so if you’re tall this might be a good option. I’m just not sure they’re a need for me.

The mid blue seems to run smaller. My size up is ok. I think if you find the leg on the cheeky straight or 90s cheeky too slim this is a good option and I think they’d wear in well. The rise is high but not as high as the high rise toothpicks or the cheeky straight I think.

I also ordered the Everlane cheeky bootcut in the deep indigo with the inset which makes them look more like redone jeans. These also seem to run a little smaller. I wish the flare was a little wider on these. I always seem to have this issue with crop flares, they look more like a straight leg on me. The wash on these is nice though.

    7. Thank you Suz! Your Insta post is so helpful! I like the cuffed indigo version best. Very Helmut Lang! I was leaning towards the cuffed-indigo and the white super-straights and now I'm validated =).

    8. I posted more in stories, showing the size 24 in the cuffed indigo. I tried the cheeky bootcut (size 25 regular) again with tweed Avery pumps and really like them too. The cuffed indigo is a totally different look but I really like those as well.
Coincidentally I have admired these very retro looking cuffed jeans from Imogene and Willie on social media. The cuffed Everlane ones are not quite as dramatic but I think it’s a cool look.

    10. I have bought from Everlane but am not an aficionada by any means. Every so often, I find a great buy in their CWP section.

Not to mention, once or twice a year they offer me a $20 account credit. No strings attached. I like that their prices are fairly rock stable without endless promo codes/price changes.

    12. No worries! Last winter I started buying more from Everlane. I try and return a lot but most of the pieces I’ve kept I do really wear a lot. At this point the majority of my favorite sweaters, jeans and pants are all Everlane.

    13. Like you I try to buy from the CWYP section but I have bought quite a few pieces at full price because their full price is still not crazy expensive (aside from some shoes) and I also appreciate the less trendy nature and more static pricing.

    14. I did get one non-CWP item from Everlane: the travel backpack/tote. Bought it full-price and find it well made & functional. Took it to Japan for a 10-day trip (carry-on) and it worked great for travel to and from the airport-trains-subways.
