"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. New arrivals are online this morning. I'm not quite ready to purchase spring items yet...WHERE IS THE WISHLIST?

    1. @Anne, thinking the same thing. At lease the option is back to cancel online orders:)

  2. I'll be heading to 5th Ave store after work Friday. I have some time to kill before a work function so I'll be returning stuff to Madewell and JCrew. I'll check out what new arrivals they have but kind of meh about it all.

  3. Whose idea was it to put pom poms on a Rhodes Blazer? That person should be fired.

    1. Oh my God! I totally skipped right over that! That is awful!!

    2. When the price drops to $14.99 you can buy one and just cut off the poms!

    3. Ha! I have a regular rhodes blazer In italian wool. The cut doesn’t even look the same, although maybe it’s just shown oversized on the model. I don’t know but it’s bad. It’s like a lampshade with arms.
I don’t mind pom poms, but this is a weird mix.

    4. Had to look this up, and wow, that’s bad. I don’t get the pompoms at all, just looks like an experiment or afterthought.

    5. There’s a lot you can do to improve on a blazer: bows, ruffles, piping, unexpected buttons, special lining, collar trim, peplum fit, bracelet sleeve... but a pom Pom trim is not one of them. I like a pompom trim on my Christmas ornaments, a hat... not a $100+ item I wear to work to look professional. I cannot believe this made it to production.

    6. I’m glad we are in agreement on this one. I know I tend to be fairly boring so I wasn’t sure if it was “just me.”

  4. Not a vent. I got to see the silk lion print and it is fantastic. The color is blue olive but is gold lions on a deep purplish blue background. I haven’t seen the pants yet but they are both definitely on my spring list. I love the look of the relaxed pants in the green silk paisley also. Does anyone know if these are the first of the Chris Benz designs? I haven’t had time to look through them yet but with just a quick glance I found some things to love.

    1. Those are the items that caught my eye as well. Not that I'm in the market for shirts or pants now.

  5. I also can't understand how there are 2600+ items in the sale section with only a % off on a small portion of sale.

I need to look closer at the new arrivals but overall I am pleased to see more prints and fun blazer colors for spring as well as some new pant silhouettes.

    1. Agree, Anne - it makes no sense to have no discount on most of the sale section. Briefly visited the store yesterday and the sale room is overflowing. It was extra 50% off but final sale. Banana Republic is offering an extra 60% off sale. J Crew should do the same and clear it out.

    2. Yesterday I almost bought the white and black Nordic boots on sale. Today they’re not on sale. I think they play these games when new arrivals come out so people look at the new arrivals instead of sale stuff.
I held off on the boots because they’re still a little higher than I want to pay, but today they’re double, 😆

    3. I love the jacquard dresses, the one with the trim and the pink one although that mini length wouldn’t work for me even at 5’1. I’m so pleased to see bright colors and more prints. Not sure about white silk pants though - not my style, doesn’t seem practical, and drawstring elastic waistband looks cheap.

    4. @Suz Has , hope you found them at 60% off today & could use up your rewards $$s!

  6. Seems to be official now: J.Crew has stopped making shirts in petite sizes. So disappointed. Total bummer for me. I wear a petite 8 or medium. J.Crew, a regular 6 or small does not fit!!!!

    1. New rollout, no shirts in tall either.

      Delete
    2. Sometimes tall options appear a few days after new rollouts, but I agree, it does seem to be heading in the direction of less tall options. In the past I would buy regular shirts since at least as a tall lady, I could wear them but with the new cropped trend I can't do that anymore. I'm also not that big of a fan of the high rise look either.

  7. I like the red barn jacket with the liberty collar. I don’t love the brown corduroy but would wear it popped I think. However, the fit on the model is just terrible. There are waist tabs but as shown it’s cropped and boxy. If the clothes don’t look good on the models...

  8. I admit to cutting down my shopping quite a bit for many reasons. When I'm near J.Crew I do like to stop in and see what might catch my eye and might be a nice addition to my wardrobe. Yesterday I stopped in and I was quite shocked to see how empty the store is! While it hasn't been full in quite some time, the empty spaces on the racks were really noticeable. Does J. Crew only want us to shop online these days?

  9. I was excited to see the Re-issue section in the new arrivals today and immediately clicked on it. The barn jacket with Liberty trim looked promising, as did the Kiki’s. Then there was a t-shirt....and...and....that was it. I was expecting a pencil skirt in a beautiful re-issued print, a printed/patterned sweater, a really special blazer with a lining as pretty as the outer material. But just three items, one of which is a t-shirt? #Lunchbagletdown.

    1. I think it’s a painter tshirt. but maybe there’s another one. Funny thing is I HAD a favorite painter tshirt that I loved so much, but it started unraveling and had a small stain. I’ve bought a dozen others since and none can compare. I literally have a pile and I’ve barely put them on. That said the painter tee I saw online does not have the same fit as my old painter tee. 😢

  10. I tried to write a review and the site only allowed me to sign in....over and over. Glitchy.

  11. Holy high rise pants, batman. No thanks. Will this trend never end?

    1. My long torso and I appreciate this trend. My 8” rise jeans are literally hip huggers on me. I can see how someone with a short torso can’t wear a 12” rise though, and I remember years ago appreciating the low rise trend because it eliminated the waist gap between my 24” waist and my 34” hips.
Now thank goodness some brands realize there are women (even small sized people) with curves and are making clothing proportioned for this shape.
Sadly my JCREW and Madewell experience is not as good in this department.

Hold on to your low rise! They’ll be back.

    2. I just wish they'd make different rises for different body types. Sometimes they do in denim, but rarely in other pants. Same with Madewell. I don't even want a low rise - a 9" mid rise puts the waistband at my natural waist.

My recent denim purchases have been from Sundance Catalog. Their mid rise jeans fit me perfectly.

It's kind of crazy that my Cafe Capri pants from J. Crew are my go-to for dressier pants. They're so old! But they fit me better than anything else.

    3. Agreed. Rather than it be a trend it should really be what fits and is most flattering. Pants are so tricky for a manufacturer to get right. I don’t even know how they do it to be honest. I remember when patio pants came out I loved them and tried a pair on in the dressing room next to another woman. She had thinner legs and maybe a thicker/straighter middle so they were loose on her butt and thighs. On me they were fitted through the butt and thighs. Looked like totally different pants,

    4. @cate this made me lol. It’s all about low rise jeans coming back in 2020. Maybe I should stick mine in the back of my closet. 😆

  12. Here’s a vent, not specific to crew.
I’ve had it with instagrammers who literally take clothes out of a bag, put them on, and post a link to buy.
I love checking IG. I like to share reviews and clothes. But I’m honest. I get doing it for profit and I am not criticizing that, what I don’t like is a blogger who is telling me this tshirt from amazon or target is so great and click the link below to buy it.
Anyway, I’m unfollowing people because I see enough advertising.

    1. Great point, Suz! I agree and that’s another reason that I love this blog and honest reviews like yours. They are truly appreciated.

    2. I find I can't trust anyone reviewing clothes for profit. The money aspect of it automatically taints their opinion for me. I'm not referring to any JCAs!

It's especially irritating when they post their daily outfits a lot and you never see the items they've told us to buy. They probably never wear most of it.

    3. There’s also a difference between influencers like Man Repeller and Blair Eadie and many of the others. The above two post lots of pics of clothing to sell but they’re also entertainment, like reading a fashion magazine...fun to look at and read some of the stories but mostly nothing I’ll buy.

There are some people who show clothes that are gifted and that’s noted, but they might also talk about sustainability, styling, etc. I don’t mind this as much. It’s not black and white, that’s for sure.

      Delete
    4. i have a problem with IGers who wear the gifted clothes... and it looks terrible. The fit is bad, and the post is about how great the clothes are. I don’t believe in using IG for negativity so I skip over those posts, but they’re so prevalent now. A year or even 8 months ago, i’d see them rarely but it seems 2 out of 3 posts now are just bad clothes with bad fit that are not helpful to anyone. I’ve been unfollowing lots of IGers that i used to be inspired by.

      Delete
    5. Agreed. I wouldn’t go so far as to criticize someone regarding what they’re wearing unless it was someone I “knew” and they asked for constructive criticism, but I’m not there to play a game either, I like to be inspired or learn something, get ideas, share knowledge.
