This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
New promo applies only to full price items. (20% off 2 styles, 3% off 3 styles or more.) Not sure whether to say "ugh" in disappointment or "whew" in relief that the promo is not very attractive.
ReplyDeleteThe “20/30” method actually looks like a new sales strategy J Crew is introducing. There’s a note about “20/30” being available every single day. This could help explain why they’re making the “promo” period so long in order to test the new strategy.
DeleteIf it's going to be available every day, why not just lower the price up front. I don't like this 20/30 40/30/20/10 thing at all either. Even the website design looks busy and confusing and "discount warehouse" instead of chic and classic. All of the things I've been considering have been totally sold out in my size for quite a while now and aren't popping back.
DeleteWhat a S-show. Why does everything have to be so complicated? I mean, I bought a few items at 40% off but now I need to try and figure out what is what percentage off?
ReplyDeleteIt's just so silly. I wish they would just keep it simple. They're taking all the pleasure out of stalking the site for popbacks, etc.
I have a box full of returns and I'm going to go in at some point this week to deal with it.
I think they have lost their mind. New spring items have been drastically marked down while some winter items are still barely 20% off. What kind of business model is that?
DeleteThis promo is 20 (!) days long. Main page looks like a warehouse sale.
DeleteI tested 3 full price items in my cart - none were listed as exclusions. Promo did not apply. Best of luck, JC!
Same for me! Also, don’t like look and feel of site now...it’s too “noisy” like discount brands. JC is making it easy not to shop.
DeleteIf the promo truly is 20 days I think I will be fine for No Shop April. At least as far as JC is concerned.
Delete@JessF Me too! If I didn’t want it at 40% off, I certainly won’t want it at 20 or 30% off. Even if I wasn’t trying for NoShopApril I’d have no reason to shop at J.Crew right now.
DeleteYeah, this promo is a head scratcher. I also ordered a few things @ 40% off + educator and a few sale things on deep discount. Those will arrive by tomorrow. Nothing from this promo which is ok.
DeleteCompletely agree with everyone above. This promo is ridiculous. I also hate the main page - it looks like Victoria Secret during their semi-annual clearance sale. (is anyone else getting the underwear photo as the first square? Not what I want to see first thing when I go to JC online) This is not classy! I have two orders of popbacks coming this week, and will need to make returns due to multiple colors of the same size. Once that's out of the way, I'm done with JC until this promo goes away. No Shop April! (JC anyway)
DeleteI have a return to make and have not shopped J Crew (minus a two popbacks) since January.
DeleteBanana got my money today with their additional 50% off sale.
I refuse to shop J Crew at these prices. Call it spoiled, but I'm not paying more.
I am also frustrated by the trickle of new arrivals to the site as others have pointed out. I don’t have time to look everyday for one or two new items nor is anything interesting enough to me to want to look daily. I was scrolling through sale this morning and saw the Embroidered Bell Sleeve dress and thought I don’t ever remember seeing this yet it is already marked to a promo price. I then received an email featuring the dress. Did this just get released today? It is cute but I don’t need any dresses.
ReplyDeleteI went in yesterday, last day of 40 off..Not a single thing I wanted. Plain drab crap. Shopping elsewhere until it improves.
ReplyDeleteMadewell also has a promo 20% off purchase, or 30% off $200 or more.
ReplyDeleteNew promo is strange. Happened to check the site at midnight ET, and the magic hour was back in effect. Got the St James sweatshirt and Gola sneakers with the old promo; hope they work. I’ve realized the collaborations and denim (which I don’t need) are all I’m looking at at J Crew anymore. Continuing more mindful shopping, despite these two purchases ;).
ReplyDeleteI sure love the tie-waist shirtdress in stripe. It's well made, with a flowy, not stiff cotton fabric. This petite is glad I got the regular size, because the waist is barely low enough on a shorty. The sleeves are also not too long for me. It does run small, and all sizes over 2 are currently sold out. I went up one size from my normal JCrew dress size. It fit perfectly in the waist, and the extra fabric in the chest and hip draped well so wasn't a problem.
ReplyDeleteThis new promo - snooze. I still have found a few things here and there to order but overall unimpressed. I reordered the drapey crepe open white blazer in a smaller size and it's still pretty big in the front. I sized down to a 2 from a 4 and there is just a lot of fabric in the front. I just ordered another blazer from Zara and if that works I'm definitely returning the Crew one. I'll try it one more time but I feel like I'm forcing it.
ReplyDeleteI also received the button fly jeans in Leddy wash (lighter wash). They are 9" (not 10" as the description states). I ordered a 29 which is my usual high rise size (8 on bottom usually/6 in dresses) and while they were good in the leg, they were quite a bit looser in the hip/waist area. Usually I have a little bit of a gap in the waist but these just looked a little sloppy. They're stretchier than my Prescott wash ones and the fabric composition is different. I reordered a 28 to try and they arrived today so we'll see how they are. I did like the wash and thought they were flattering on my legs even in the lighter wash and skinny fit.
I tried the cropped fatigue jacket but it was a no go for me. There was too much material in the middle and the tie was a bit much. I went with a small and the sizing was off. Cute jacket. I ended up keeping the Old Navy fatigue jacket which I liked a lot (better than the Madewell one!)
And I bought a pair of shoes on popback Saturday - price not the best but I've been stalking these shoes forever - the suede colorblock ankle strap heels in the beige/black color way. I have the pink and orange ones and love them. I figure if I end up returning all of the failed items and keep one good thing I'm probably better off.
Styling two sale pieces on the blog this week: the ruffle neck sweater (runs TTS) and elephant Martie pants (sized up, but took my regular size in Martie)

Damn. I just lost a long post which seems to happen when I try to post from my phone, sigh.
ReplyDeleteI could have basically written Anne's post above.
I've purchased several items over the past week or so and the good: shipping has been fast.
I've posted a few things on IG @wearthislikethis.
Today I got a few things that are mostly going back. The Milano tee in some type of flame color, it's dark burgundy. I specifically purchased to go with the Rhodes microgingham blazer which has checks in the same dark burgundy/navy color. Nothing works with this for me. The colors in the tee work but I'm,not crazy about the fit in XS or S.
Drapey popover in black: this is super sheer and really, really short. The body is very wide. I'd need to size up so I didn't look like I was wearing a maternity/trapeze top so I could tuck it in a little.
The lone love of the order (aside from a gift) is the Mary Jane in sequin. I totally forgot I ordered them when they popped back in my size.
Anyone who knows me knows my wardrobe is basically black or white tops/sweaters, jeans, black skirts/pants and a disproportional amount of sparkly shoes. These are beautiful, fit nicely and I love how the bronze sequins reverse to gold so you can play around with the look. I do not need them but they're so pretty I might have to keep.
Could not be less interested in this “20/30” thing. It’s too complicated and it’s not enough of a discount to nudge me to purchase mediocre stuff. I don’t know what the heck they are thinking. Nothing about what J Crew is doing these days is going to win customers back. There’s a big world of design options out there and I’m finding myself looking at J Crew but buying elsewhere. Good promos generally get me over the hump of lower quality, but this isn’t good.
ReplyDeleteThe little bit of glimmer that I thought I saw at the 'Crew is definitely gone with this last promo. Whew, my pocket is thanking whoever came up with this. However, I've been checking out the new Hunter/Target collab...looking good so far!
ReplyDeleteooooh thanks for the heads up!
DeleteI’m totally in on the Target/Hunter collab, too!
DeleteStriped sleeveless top with fringe arrived today. Very cute and substantial knit. Indy issue is that it runs a bit big so I need to exchange for a medium.
ReplyDeleteAlso got the striped wrap top - that is going back. Threads hanging from seam and no way it will stay tied well on my figure. The second part isn't a fault of the garment.
After I exchange the striped fringe, unless a long merino cardigan appears I'm good for spring.
