Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Online shopping only. My VPS ordered the camo Tippi for me yesterday, really into camo this year. Could stack the 20% off coupon with the current 30% off promo. And today I ordered the cashmere lined leather tech gloves (backordered till October, so they will probably arrive just in time for the colder weather). Also 9% ebates cash back today.

    2. @luxette That's great to hear. Have been waiting for a decent promo to order it plus finally the weather is getting cooler

  2. No J Crew for me but it's a great shopping weekend - so many great promos at lots of retailers.

I'm intrigued by some of the "throwback" pieces in this rollout because I had most of them the first time around. The rugby and roll neck are on my list. The quality will obviously not be the same and that's fine w a good promo price. It does confuse me that the company is going in two different directions w the trendy fast fashion but throwing in a few versions of the oldies.

  4. I'll be stopping by to scope out a new necklace for the first day of school. My outfit is a gray graphic tee and white lace skirt and I need some pop of something!

  5. Anyone know if Nordstrom will price match the 30% off promotion on J Crew merchandise?

    1. They only price match if the actual item price is lowered - not for a percentage off.

    2. OK, got it. Thanks! Nordstrom has marked down a lot of J Crew and Madewell items on their site. Worth a look.

    4. I was told that as long as the item/size is in stock (at JC), and the discount promo is open to ALL (i.e., no cardholder promo, private code required), Nordy's will price match it, price and discount. I did it for the skinny zipper pants during their 50%-60% sale discount phase and they were regular $$ at Nordys. I was unsure of the fit and didn't want to buy final sale at JC, so I called Nordys

      Delete
    5. I also did the same during one of Tory Burch's sales for a pair of sandals. A promo code was used but it was open to everyone and Nordys happily matched it. I used to think that it was only the price that could be matched but I asked, because it can't hurt to ask, and it worked! Good luck!

  7. Just a heads up for anyone thinking about buying the rollneck sweaters in-store this weekend, check the store price against the online price. At my store, the original price on both the solid and the striped rollneck was $10 higher than online ($79.50 and $85, instead of $69.50 and $75). I didn't realize this until I got home, but happily an email to customer service got me a price adjustment without needing to go back to the store to get it fixed.

    1. How is everyone styling the roll neck sweaters so that they look 2017 and not 1984 (or 1988)?

      Delete
    2. Yes this is something to watch for. Purchased a skirt the other day and it rang up $10 more than the price tag. They adjusted, but you really have to watch.

  9. Received the Friday tee and sweater blazer from Factory today. I agree with PP about them both being keepers! Love the gold trim around the lettering of the Friday tee and the blazer is a great weight. Question though to other blazer owners...mine came folded in a box and has several creases in it. Should I just hang it or should I try and steam them out?

    1. I just hung mine and when I reached for it in 2 days they had fallen out. HTH!

    2. I'm sure steaming and ironing most garments would get the wrinkles out, unless it says no ironing then not sure what you would do.

    3. Thanks Mrs! The folds seem to have fallen out. Can't wait to wear this!

    1. Interesting! Is the heart print skirt a tulle skirt with heart patches? are the moon/stars on the cardigan embroidered or patches?

      Delete
    2. thanks, Cass - loving the slim dresses, hope they live up to the pictures!

      Delete
    3. Love the bow dress and the velvet skirt, at first glance.

      Delete
    4. @eeps the heart skirt is printed poly organza, no tulle and no patches. The moon/star cardi did appear to be patches and not embroidery.

@WFF I really liked the dress with the waist tie and it was nice hefty fabric for fall but it was short. Unfortunately IG cut off the pics so you can't see. The other dresses were normal length.

    5. Called Brookfield Place & ordered the skirt and cardigan to try. I liked these 2 items from NYFW. Not a huge fan of the fabric choice for the skirt, but hoping it's ok. Both items were eligible for 30% off. Skirt was $89 and cardigan $77 with discount. I expected these to be collection items, so at least pricing is a pleasant surprise.

  12. I did go in store since I was at the mall already and was instantly drawn to the The 2011 Blythe shirt. There is nothing I love more than a draped button up in a non shiny silk. The Golden Tea color is amazing too. Unfortunately this shirt pulled at the bust. With the top 1 or 2 buttons opened. I just can't with that BS. It would be one thing if I were really busty, but I am pretty proportional for a size 4. I considered going up a size, since it's drapey already, perfect fit is not an issue, but I realized the fabric won't hold up. It's already starting to show wear and I had to be like the 3rd person to touch it.

I also checked out the The 2003 washed silk V-neck tank. Good call to order it in the petite cause the regular didn't lie flat on my back or shoulders. Hopefully the petite will fix that. I'd also prefer a slightly higher neckline for more versatility. My only issue is the stitching looks pretty cheap up close. Definitely no quality control on it. The pink is a bit too pink for my taste. It gives off a very lingerie feel, so I will probably return that color and keep the golden tea. If you have fairer skin, it might more sophisticated. On my brown skin it looked nice, it is a pretty color, but a little more out there than I would like in a shiny silk. The fabric does not give off a washed silk look to me, which is unfortunate cause I really like that. I don't find that it is too short in the front, at least not in the regular. I'm 5'4" so I go back and forth between petite and regular depending on the cut. I'd also think twice about buying this shirt in store. The fabric doesn't seem too prone fraying, but the rough edges of the wooden hangers, where you put spaghetti straps in, are roughing up the fabric and would probably rough up the highest quality silk. Stores really need to learn to handle delicate fabric better.

  13. I am interested in the 1988 (?) rugby shirt but the only colorway I want is the navy& pink which is sold out. What is the likelihood that a store might have one? Or am I just out of luck?

    1. Sara, I purchased that shirt too! The navy/pink color is in stock in almost all sizes right now.

    2. Shoot - I missed them. The website only has the navy/white available right now. I'll keep my eye out. Thanks!

    3. ugh I know, the navy/pink sold out right away! Waiting for pop backs..

      Delete
    4. I'm really surprised the navy/pink one sold out. Every time I see it, it makes me think someone washed their navy/white shirt with red clothing on accident. I wouldn't think that many people would like it.

    5. I'm not much of a pink person so I got the olive color. I can see why it was popular though. I did see that one of the reviews mentioned that the pink color was different than the online picture depicted.

  14. Went to Factory to make some returns and ended up bringing the floral Printed Pencil Skirt in Sateen (dot? inapppropriate descriptor for the garment) home with me. Very pretty print, TTS. The pink in the skirt is essentially the Neon Orchid colorway from retail- I have both the Tippi and the Dulci heels and am not afraid to get matchy matchy!

  15. I stopped in Wednesday night to make a return and check out the mini rollout. I didn't intend to do tryons but got sucked in. I posted some mini reviews/photos on my blog including the rugby shirt, washed silk tank, rollneck sweater, camo tee, faux fur vest, cargo toothpick pants, daisy lace top, and also the Dover blazer and rose gold pencil skirt. I ended up purchasing the Dover blazer and black Daisy lace top. I was surprised at how much I liked the rugby but I'm not sure I would wear it enough.

    2. Great, detailed reviews as always, Anne! Everything looks great on you, but my fave might be the top with Daisy lace, very cute!

Not planning to stop by, nothing calling my name. I missed out on the cargo toothpicks (both regular and petite) and I didn't realize that Rose-gold skirt came in petite! I swear, it must've been released way after regular or I simply missed it somehow. Oh well.

    3. I'm fangirling because you referenced my review of the silk tank! I literally said out loud, "that's me!" and my husband was nice enough to indulge me in my excitement over being mentioned by a blog I read and told me this means I'm internet-famous lol.

    4. @TM93 a very belated thank you re: the blog post! I think they've been releasing tall/petite sizes after the fact...I've noticed that in terms of tall items - when they're first released it's only one run and a week or so later the other sizes pop up.

@Alyssa - :) I'm sorry I couldn't remember who it was when I wrote it! Thanks for reading, much appreciated.

  16. I finally took a look at the new offerings. Frankly, it was hard wading through the stuff I really didn't like to find something I was interested in. Still too many ruffles, OTS items, silly things with ties instead of sleeves or collars or anything you know to be a real part of a real garment. I just am seeing less and less things I like. And when I see something that harkens to classic J. Crew, it's been "improved". Now it's "slimmer" (meaning I will have to size up and then it will be too big in other areas of the garment), different fabric (meaning thinner, rougher)....I really get annoyed with claims that this is a same garment...no it's not. I might stop by soon. But I really don't feel compelled to.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I actually like ruffles, but it's too much ruffles and done in the tackiest ways. It's like they're randomly adding ruffles to things. That tie blazer is just ridiculous.

I don't mind the slim fit though. JCrew has gone so far in the size-flation direction. The waist is cut so big on everything now. I feel like I'm in a weight loss commercial every time I buy something.

  17. went to the Vancouver Robson St store ...returns to do. small picked over sale section.
I remember the first Sept long weekend sale...the first year J Crew
opened stores in Canada. 2 or 3 years ago? sale was 50% off . I went 2x that weekend spending a few hundred $$ every time. left empty handed this year.... I have returned everything I have purchased lately.
Its not just the off the shoulder, ruffles etc that are not doing anything for me...its the too short tops, pants sweaters etc. even the tshirts are getting more cropped imo. not too mention no pairs of shoes or a bag in sight that I would purchase. really dissappointed in having no crewlade to drink.....I am thirsty!!

  18. I stopped in for a return. I've been trying to be better about shopping and really trying to analyze what I do and do not need and what I honestly will get the most use from... So I returned the ruffle utility dress. I got the size 4 which I would consider TTS (sometimes I size down to a 2 in shift dresses, but always a 4 in shirt dresses). I did like it and it's cute and suits my figure, but will I reach for it? Hard to say. It is my birthday month so I might go back and repurchase it if I can get a better deal, but I'm going to wait for more new arrivals.

  19. I went to my store to return a few online purchases. My store had 30% off, but many sweaters were more expensive, as some of the new sweaters are already on sale plus 40% off online. Sale section was also only 30% off in this store. Basically everything was more expensive in store. They would probably honor the online prices, but it just wasn't worth the hassle.

As far as the offerings, I have purchased a few items from the new line that I'm very pleased with: the ratti geometric skirt, and the ruffle sleeve sweater. I surprisingly liked the ruffle sleeve sweater, which was marked down online when I purchased it (but is now reg. price). I also love the floral pencil skirt and I even like the heart tippi as the color is great for fall. I will wait for some of these to go on sale, but I for one was happy that there are finally a few things I like at J Crew.

  23. And lastly, the Chevy Chase store had the olive leather stretch skinny pants, sz 16. BEAUTIFUL! but if you are not a true 16, they may be too big and baggy, at least on me. I actually ordered them a few months ago and had to return. I'm not sure if these are the same ones that I returned a while ago or if someone else returned a pair but good luck to anyone in the market for them. I will say it again, BEAUTIFUL!

Wow, I don't think I have ever had this much to say in one year let alone in one day. Have a great weekend everyone

  24. I was in Chicago today and stopped in to make a return (yay for saving on the return shipping charge for once!) I wound up purchasing the chino button down skirt. It wasn't on my radar until I saw Studio McGee wearing it on Instagram. It's a nice weight and I really like the volume. The store was busy with people browsing, but there weren't many people in line to buy. All the SA's were very pleasant and helpful.

I stopped in at Nordstrom as well and the tweed lady jacket with ties caught my eye. The colors in the tweed are vibrant (but not overpowering), and are counterbalanced nicely by the navy background. The fit is slimmer and more flattering than the other lady jackets I own. I tried it on and fell in love, but am debating if I really need another fancy jacket. Didn't purchase at Nordstrom since I have a J. Crew gift card, and 15% off promo that can be stacked on top of this weekend's promo. I need to sleep on it before pulling the trigger.

Unfortunately, with all the J. Crew love, there was a disappointment when I arrived back from Chicago. I purchased the black and bronze embroidered Jackie cardigan which arrived today. When I opened the plastic bag it was sealed in I was immediately overwhelmed with perfume. The whole cardigan stinks as if someone used it a a perfume tester strip in a Sephora. I emailed customer service to tell them how disappointing it is that they would even ship an item in that condition.

  25. Visited yesterday to try on my online orders.

Collection Silk Ruffle Top in Ratti Midnight Floral-Size 0, The ruffles were overwhelming on my frame. The print was a meh, and did not look special like the way it did online. I also was not wowed by the silk material. I don't think it should be priced at $198, and label it collection. Returned.

Madewell High Rise Slim Boyjean-Size 25. seriously, high rise jeans is not for me. Why do I even bother. 9' rise, and I'm short-waisted. I should just stick to 8' rise. Returned.

    3. Right, it's really cute to me and so was the cashmere bodysuit they came out with, but JCrew cashmere isn't even worth the sale price. At $70-$150 on sale, it's still way too expensive for it's disposable fast fashion quality. You can wear it three times at most, before it starts to look worn, it's insane. I had a cardigan pill from rubbing up against a leather purse smoother than my own skin.

    1. Hi silver_lining, that would be sad for Jcrew (and us) if they don't do NYFW this time especially if BR still does it. Thanks for posting, I wonder if they will. It would save money not to but seems like it would hurt them overall.

    2. I ask @Jcrew on Instagram when their presentation was scheduled and this was their reply back to me. " No details to share as of yet @shoppingcelle but stay tuned for more updates".

    3. I don't think it would matter much if they didn't show there, honestly. The timing of them showing at NYFW coincided with the demise of the brand, IMO. They probably spend a lot of money on that which I think could be better spent on things like making a few more of the pink and navy striped rugby shirt! lol... I'm so annoyed they finally made something I want and it's totally sold out in two colors and almost sold out in the third color. They seem to not know their customer base. I know some people enjoy the high fashion looks, but they're not for me, and I wouldn't care whether they did NYFW if they had their act together on the everyday consumer side of things.

      Delete
    4. NYFW was purely a Jenna initiative to elevate the brand. It only made sense when she was the face of J Crew and as Cate pointed out, the company's downward spiral coincided w the years of those shows. I think they will bow out, if not this year, soon after. Jenna belongs at NYFW, but what J Crew has become really doesn't.
