This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

Has anyone tried the Avery Glittery Tweed Pumps? Item g8161. The last thing I need is another pair of glittery shoes, but I love the shape and wonder if the plaid trim is black or navy? There are only a few reviews and I haven't seen it mentioned, nor does my store carry them.
ReplyDeleteThe plaid trim is black. They are super cute!
DeleteI have them and wore on Sunday. Fit is tts and agree they're really cute.
DeleteJessica and Tara, does the glitter appear gold, silvery or mint as the name suggests? I seem to have tossed my catalog and it's difficult to tell online.
DeleteIn the natural sunlight I see all of those colors and even pink overtones.
DeleteThank you. The color variation plus the pointed toe And The plaid make it different enough from my other sparkly shoes that I'll give them a shot. 😜
DeleteYeah! Hope they work for you.
DeleteThis navy and green tweed-sleeve top has been sitting in my closet NWTs for years (Jcrew style #07568). Any tips for how to style (besides with jeans)?? https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens_category/shirtsandtops/casualshirts/tweedsleeve-top/07568
ReplyDeleteWhen I see tweed like that, I immediately think Chanel. I would pair it with a boyfriend khaki and wear a triple layer pearl necklace and a chain belt. Could go with heels or keds, depending on the look you want. I think that would also look cute with a denim vest over it, styled same way.
DeleteThat looks very wearable! You could style it with a sleek pencil skirt, leather pants, or formal trousers too. I think just do t focus on the tweed and find the rest of your outfit, pretending it's just a black and white top - then, the shirt will bring an element of surprise to a "normal" sleek outfit. Hope that makes sense...
DeleteHow do JCAs feel about garment steamers? I'm someone who irons on a regular basis, but sometimes I only wear a wool skirt for a few hours, or a linen blazer, and I've been thinking it might be nice to steam the wrinkles out. I've seen (on amazon) the smaller, travel size steamers. Is this a worthwhile item or will it create more clutter and take up space in my closet?
ReplyDeleteThey're awesome. Definitely serve a different function from irons. But without hesitation. You're gonna love it especially on silk and more delicate materials. Not great on thicker cotton shirts if you're looking for a crease free crisp finish.
DeleteI only use a steamer, never an iron. I have a conair that works great. Make sure to use distilled water or it will get clogged over time.
DeleteI'm a big fan of steamers too. I had bigger one but it just too up too much room. I got a get set while back from HSN, Joy Mangano - with a regular size steamer and one for travel. In the winter I occasionally fill it up and just let in run to get some extra moisture in the air.
DeleteI love my steamer, use it on a weekly basis and I couldn't live without it. I agree with the other JCA's, great for everything but cotton and heavier fabrics. I have a standup Rowenta that I keep in my laundry room. If you buy an upright steamer, be sure and remove the water container from the stand after every use.
DeleteLiz, thank you for mentioning the distilled water. My husband misplaced a part of my jiffy steamer (ok, it was about 11 years ago!) and my iron broke so I bought a conair and after not much time it started spitting out water. I bet it's clogged because we have hard water. Darn.
DeleteSuz Has, try to fill it with vinegar and let it run. It removed deposits from my electric kettle and it looks like new now.
DeleteThank you. I was going to try that first
DeleteSecond the vinegar trick. I had to do that before I figured out the distilled water trick. It fixed it great!
Deletewow thanks so much everyone - I had no idea steamers were so useful! I was just thinking I could also use it to steam creases out of folded sweaters. :)
DeleteI also use only a steamer, not an iron. I have a Jiffy one that I purchased after using it in the fashion closet of a women's fashion magazine (everything that went to a photo shoot was steamed using it before being transported to the studio). As maqsad said, it's great for delicate materials, but you will not get any crisp finished on button-downs. I also use mine to freshen up curtains. The majority of my closet is silk/cashmere tops, pants and dresses, and I rarely wear button downs or anything with a sharp collar, so I get more use out of a steamer than an iron. However, there has been a few times when I wish I had an iron - such as putting on one of those self-adhesive fabric patches while mending something or trying to stretch out a shrunken wool sweater.
ReplyDeleteQuick shipping question: I ordered two items in one order (actually, same item but two different colors), and one is backordered and one isn't. Will I get the in stock item first, or will they wait to ship until both are in stock? Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle - they'll ship the in-stock item first.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteSharing my preppy look from polo last weekend on the blog. I'm styling the beaded ivory earrings that are currently $30.
