This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

Hi. Would appreciate pairing advice for the Ratti elephant skirt.
ReplyDeleteI love the print but am having problems pairing the skirt with a top. I did not buy the matching shirt so I would particularly appreciate advice re colors. I've put it together with slim black tops (to try to work with the black in the print) and white/ivory tops but it seems somehow unbalanced. Maybe it looks fine and I am being silly but I think I need less contrast but what colors can I wear other than some sort of khaki or a shade of green that plays off the green elephants in the skirt (which I want to avoid on my top half as it does not look good with my complexion) work. I also have the Drake giraffe skirt and I wear it with a navy top and don't think that there is the same issue - but maybe there is no difference.
Advice re shoe colors would also be appreciated!
Thank you
For the elephant skirt I would try a chambray shirt, maybe tied up in front if that is your thing. Would a very thin stripe in black and white work? If you wear a solid top I would balance with a statement necklace. This isn't very creative, but I hope it helped a bit
DeleteI would also try a red top and red shoe.

DeleteHaving the same problem. I ordered the top and skirt, and returned the top bcos it didn't look great on me. Now I'm stuck with the skirt and clueless about what to wear with other than a black tee and a white button down. Most of my wardrobe are shades of blue or jewel tones, neither of which go with the skirt. This particular shade of green on the elephant doesn't match any green in my closet. I can't wear chambray or denim at work. I'm pretty stumped.
DeleteI don't think I've ever been this stumped with an article of clothing. I have only worn my leopard print ruffle waist linen pants once. I wore it with a pale green fitted button down, cracked gold point toe flats, and an off white belt with gold buckle over the flat part of the pant below the ruffle (H constance belt).
ReplyDeleteI don't want to have the same look every time I wear the pants and I can only see wearing a different colored button down, different colored shoes, etc.
Any suggestions?
I loved them when I tried them on and then bought them but felt the same way. I liked the shape a lot because they're flattering with flats, heels, etc, but I wasn't crazy about them with black and the spots are a sort of warm gray, so my favorite top was denim/chambray or white linen. I've seen IG posters pair them with other patterns but that's not really me.
