JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Let's hope it gets better, an awful lot of schlocky looking clothes there!

    2. Ugh...either hyper casual masculine (camo etc) or hyper girly frilly farmgirl juvenile. Nothing adult women can wear to work. How many one-shoulder, OTS or spaghetti strap tops does one need? Only thing I might like is the blazer with the bows removed.

    3. I would remove those bows ... asap!

    5. "Romper in Tencil®-linen." TENCIL?? I think they meant TENCEL? Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but as a person who sews and has limited knowledge of fabric I find offensive that a fashion retailer does not know their own materials. However, it is *somewhat* reassuring that the typos are not only reserved for t-shirts *rolls eyes*

    6. Kinda like the lame lamé sweater I mentioned earlier.

    7. The "lame" sweater cracked me up!
I saw the tencilR and wondered if the fabric has the brand name "tencil" instead of "tencel."
There are a few items I like, no absolute must haves. Although I really like the COTTON sweater with the snaps at the wrist. Wonder what else it is. Looks like not 💯 cotton because it's nicely fitted.

    8. I disliked all but two things, a boat neck sweater and skinny cargo pants. I think that might be a record. Some of the bow stuff was cute, but you can stop now. Why does JCrew take a trend/theme and run it into the ground?

    9. I like that boat neck sweater too, but unfortunately not any of the colors it comes in.

  3. Topic: how "slouchy" do you like your tops...

I don't like my shirts to be form-fitting and I like some ease. I recently bought the boatneck stripe top E6466 in XS and S - given how unpredictable the sizing is. (I have a closet with XXS to M t-shirts, sigh...) XS is probably the right size - there is some ease, but the S works, too, I think in a "roomier"/slouchy kind of way. I am seriously tempted to keep both since they were on sale and it would give me the choice of "look", but I know intellectually that I have more things than I can wear on a regular basis and keeping both would probably be a sign that I have a problem....

Any words of advice? Thank you.

    1. Unless you have two specific uses for the two sizes that are real (e.g., one under a blazer for work, one with shorts for casual), not fantasy (e.g., IF I were to take a vacation to France....),I'd just keep one size. Even if you have 2 uses planned, will you really want to wear the top that much? After all, you've already said you've got a full closet, maybe something else can fulfill the role that one of the new tops would be in?

    2. Agree with shopgrrrl here, I think keeping 1 is the way to go. Depending on wear and care cotton can either shrink or stretch so I would bear that in mind when making that decision. I tend to prefer more fitted clothing so I am of no help here, but my thought is that one of these tees will sit unworn if you keep. My two cents!

    3. shopgrrrl and Anthro Blogger - thank you. You two are absolutely right. Thank you for the dose of sanity/reality!

  4. Three 20% off your next purchase (stackable) coupon codes available.

I'e gotten 3 of these in various packages. These codes sound great - you can combine it with another promo code. So why am I giving them away? Because I live in Canada and the codes are only meant for Americans. I called the 1-800 number and they confirmed that these codes will not work for me (and I also tried and failed). I guess I can't get too upset, but every time I get one of these cards it's a reminder that I can't use it!

My loss is your gain. Valid until July 31. email me at torontomodern4@gmail.com to get one of these codes.

  5. Update: All 3 codes have been claimed.

If I get more codes I will offer them up.

    1. @Toronto Modern, that was a really thoughtful gesture of you to offer it to others! I'm sorry that Canadians can't use these and I think it's careless of JC to include them. I'm sure those putting together packages back at the warehouse are merely fulfilling orders and not checking the destination address, but it's too bad there isn't some sort of 'special notification' that alerts them NOT to include the coupons. :-(
