JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Sequin stripe tee from earlier this year. Ivory and navy skinny stripes. (Gigi modelled it in purple.) I told a colleague that I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow for her 'cause she likes sequins. I have picked dark straight leg jeans and a navy Jackie cardigan to go with it tomorrow but does anyone have suggestions to style it another day? I've had it for months but this will be the first time I've worn it.

    1. I have had a hard time with this particular item as well. I have a Adair of peach skinny jeans I wear it with...with a gray blazer. I have also worn it with red jeans. I have also worn it with distressed boyfriend jeans and the navy maritime blazer. Hope that helps!

    2. What about wearing a button down chambray shirt under it?

    3. I like tucking mine into a pencil skirt. Kind of counteracts the boxiness of the shirt.

    4. Thanks for the ideas. I wouldn't have thought to wear it over something. Or tucked in. And yes, other colours are an option. I'm seriously challenged in the style department!

  2. Did anyone else get the FACTORY PRINTED SKINNY CORDS in Shadowy Blue? I'm just wondering on what you're planning on wearing with them.

  4. Question for all you great stylists: Would it be too over the top to wear my orange monarch sweater with the matching orange monarch skirt? I love it together but not sure if people will think I look crazy.... ;)

    1. Personally, I love matchy-matchy. It's just my thing. So I say go for it!

  5. Anyone have styling ideas for the multicolored lattice necklace for fall/winter? I've researched and researched but all I can find is spring summer styling ideas. Help please!

  6. Hi everyone, from past posts you may remember I'm petite and have some sizing issues! Though, I've fallen in love with a friend of mine's wool blazer from jcrew (many seasons past..boo) but i found a similar one in Boys! Being petite, I am wondering if this may work for me?? Here's the sportcoat: http://m.jcrew.com/mt/www.jcrew.com/boys_category/sportcoatsvests/ludlowsuitjackets/PRDOVR~03819/03819.jsp have any of you purchased boys coats before? Are there any reviews out there, and most ideally, of this in particular? Thanks!!

  7. Any suggestions on what shoes and leg wear would be best with the fluted skirt for a "mature" (40+) wearer? I've been wearing opaque black tights and my Bronson suede booties but would like some other options. My office is business casual (or downright casual) this time of year. TIA!

    1. I usually wear mine with dark tights and black flats, as seen here. But booties or even low-heeled knee-high boots would work, I'd imagine!

  8. merci - I have tried the summer boys' jackets but not the wool ones. For reference, I am 5'2" ish and approx. 100 lbs. and usually order size 14 in Crewcuts. I've found the boys' jackets to be wide and straight as could be expected. I did try and could fit into size 12 but the jacket is uncomfortably tight where the sleeves attach to the jacket. The size 14 is a looser, kinda boyfriend look unless I belt it. One of these days, I'll do a post on borrowing/taking from the kids' section. ;)
