"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew has a nice update to their Sale section online (click here)
this morning. Lots of merchandise for everyone (900+ for Women and 340+ for Men). Moreover, it looks like several new pieces made it to
sale along with some new price reductions. Yey!
Plus, J.Crew brick and mortar (B&M) stores are still offering an additional 30% off their Sale merchandise!!!
Not sure how long this offer will run, but hopefully for the rest of
the week. Plus, it means that online might be offering something similar
soon too.
Did you check out the Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)
I noticed that really many of the sale items are 30% off, so unless you get the extra 30% off in store, this isn't much different than what they've been offering lately.
ReplyDeleteI want to pick up a few Tippi sweaters since they're on sale (jumping on the bandwagon too!) but I noticed they say Dry Clean... Has anyone have success with hand wash or, hopefully, gentle cycle wash?
ReplyDeleteChristine, I asked about sweater care on my blog and recvd some great answers. Visit this post to read.
DeleteI've been handwashing my Tippis using cold water and shampoo. Roll them in a towel to squeeze out excess water, then lay flat as possible on a drying rack.
DeleteYou're always such a great resource! Thank you!
DeleteI have ruined 1 or 2 Tippi sweaters by washing them in the front loader. One was a Tippi cardigan that accidentally got in with a load of jeans and was put through the dryer for 2 cycles, terrible! It's all shrunken up. Maybe I can re-wash and try to stretch it out and hang it dry. The other is a Tippi crewneck that I didn't like that much so I thought I'd risk sacrificing it in a cold wash without drying it. It doesn't look very good, but maybe it would be better if I fluffed it in the dryer for 5 minutes or so. It lost its shape a bit, but I think I was able to stretch it back into shape. It just doesn't look that nice now. So I think I'm done with the Great Tippi Washing Experiment. Dry cleaning is probably best.
DeleteOk, this is probably not exactly the advice you're looking for, but I have the Whirlpool Refresh Steamer () and it works wonders! I have several Tippis, Blythes, and other dry clean items, and this cuts down on my dry cleaning. It removes smells and wrinkles, so if your items don't have stains, I really suggest it. Yes, the $200 price tag may be a bit steep, but (at least at my drycleaner) sweaters and blouses are like $5 a pop, so it adds up. Just a thought!
DeleteThat is pricey but it looks amazing!
DeleteI have a front loader and used the 'Wool' setting and it still shrunk my sweaters (including the Tippi I got last year) a bit.
DeleteI also have a Rowenta steamer and it works great.
I have a dryer with a 15 minute "refresh" steam cycle and have found that it works nicely for perking up supposedly dry clean-only items such as sweaters and the Minnie pants. I've also had luck washing merino on the gentle cycle in my front-loader with Laundress cashmere shampoo. Amazon sells a nice cedar-scented version that I don't think JC had. At the risk of sounding like a filthy girl, I try to dry clean my clothing as little as possible because I think the chemicals/industrial presses are terribly hard on clothes.
DeleteSo happy to have snagged the Tartan Flannel Shirt in blue as a popback! However, I'm feeling guilty as I have been meaning to only be shopping for others--maybe I'll give it to my husband to give to me for Christmas. :) Oh the crazy ideas I think up to justify more purchases from J.Crew.
ReplyDeleteChristine, I hand wash all of my merino sweaters (cashmere ones, too). The Tippis have come out looking like new. You do have to iron or steam them, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I can handle ironing/steaming, but dry cleaning every time is costly and a bit of a hassle! Glad to hear they can be handwashed. :)
DeleteGood idea to try the iron on them, I think I can salvage my crewneck.
DeleteIt's nice to see 30% off in-stores, although there isn't a thing I want.
ReplyDeleteI launched a Irl Pic Guide for J'Crewlet. Today's the last day for XOFACTORY for 40% off.

Christine, cate (can't use reply): Definitely iron the merino. After hand washing, the fabric will look kind of puckery, wrinkly so it needs a good pressing. I never dry clean my sweaters but I'm fortunate to have laundry facilities in my home. I know it's really tough to hand wash and have flat drying space in an apartment.
ReplyDeleteOn the washing/cleaning question, here's what NOT to do: this morning I recklessly decided to put 3 JC sweaters in the washer on cold and gentle settings. The featherweight cotton one did fine, and the merino Tippi did fine, but my favorite merino fan print cardigan came out with holes. I feel terrible.
ReplyDeleteThe sweaters that I do put in the washer, I ALWAYS put inside a mesh lingerie bag. You can buy them at Target for about $3. It keeps the sweaters from getting stretched or snagged.
DeleteOh no, I'm sorry. Were they the only things in that load?
DeleteNot all hope is lost! If you are handy dandy with thread and needle, there are ways to repair holes in a virtually invisible manner. Alternatively, you can take it to a knit/yarn shop or a trusted tailor and they can repair it.
DeleteFor future occasions, I second the mes wash bag. I wash my cotton sweaters this way and it works great. Though I must admit that my silk and merino gets hand washed in the sink and laid flat to dry.
I hope you can get this sweater fixed!
I recently washed some long merino cardis. They are a little wrinkled/messed up but I was too lazy to iron them. After one wearing, they seemed to go back to their normal shape. Phew!
ReplyDeleteI did the same but mine shrunk a little bit in the washer. No harm there, since I got them in the M anticipating for this to happen.
DeleteReview of Sperry Top-Sider Quilted Shearwater Boots HERE, currently on sale with 30% off.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone noticed any markdowns instore? Just want to know if its worth it to go in since its the same old stuff
ReplyDeleteI jsut bought the peacoat popover in Red for ~$48! it was on sale in store for $79.99 + 30% off + 15% student discount. this may be the best j.crew purchase ever! they still have a few more in size 0/4/6 at the south coast plaza store :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Roxy! I ordered this morning (at a higher price) and my VPS was able to confirm that price with your store and matched it!
DeleteJust stopped in my local B&M to return some items. Sequin polka dot top (too short), scatter sequin sweater (too short, boxy and just cheap looking), popcorn stitch sweater (too short, icky slick feeling yarn and holey....loosely knitted making skin visible....UGH!), and some ugly earrings. Sales section was stuffed...but didn't see anything good. Didn't buy anything else at the Crew, but picked up two sweaters at Eddie Bauer for me and a green/red plaid dress shirt, a herringbone wool shirt jacket for my husband and a pair of tartan plaid moccassin style slippers (which I'll wear as shoes) for me at Land's End. Everything was 40% to 50% off. All stores (except Nordstom) seem to be having deep discounts on items. That's great ...if you can find something you want. I just don't see much I like in the women's dept. I find all kinds of stuff in men's, but women's is too trendy, too short, cheap fabrics, it's really disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree on the disappointing women's items at many retailers. I've all but stopped shopping at Ann Taylor and Banana Republic Women's because the fabrics are so horrendously cheap and I don't want cropped pants/too short skirts and dresses. JC suffers on the too-short/cropped front but I am at least buying a few things from them since they still make real silk blouses rather than icky polyester. But overall, my shopping is down across the board. Men's items are still nice at BR...I guess men won't tolerate crappy fabrics?
DeleteThere are also some good products available at the grocery store. Woolite makes the best one- it used to be called "Drycleaners Secret"- now just Woolite ( in a box) and it dryer sheets ( no bag needed) that are activated by steam. Put 4-6 sweaters in ther dryer, on med heat setting for 20 minutes, and they are done. I ose this several times for merino and cashmere and then I will handwash them.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I picked up a couple of sweaters and I got a pair of cords with the additional 30% off sale but they were final sale.
ReplyDeleteStopped by the McLean VA store today. Huge sale section. I purchased the stripe peplum top without trying it on. Such a cute top but looked awful on my short frame. I think there were about 10 SA's walking around bored.
ReplyDeleteWhen I returned the sequin polka dot top, the scatter sequin sweater and the popcorn sweater today the SA (who I know pretty well) said even before I could say anything "these tops/sweaters are so short!". She's about 5'2" and I'm 5'9".....so if SHE thinks they're short...well, you know what I think! Then another SA came off the floor up next to the SA doing my return and she put her fingers on the inside of the popcorn stitch sweater and made a face. I said "yah, guess why I'm returning that?"....she commented on how holey the sweater was. Now I know according to the Crew that I'm suppose to wear a perfect shirt (or two) under these garments to cover my skin, but seriously, why are these tops so short, thin and holey?! And I was the only customer in the store....lots of SA's for little ole' me.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if they'll price match an online sale price in store (if the online price is cheaper) and still honor the 30% off? Also, I'm not a frequent J.Crewer so I don't know but if I call, will a store ship me a sale item? I'm trying to track down the white tipped peacoat (white w/black piping) in a size 4. It's no longer available online in my size but I wondered if I could call around to stores & see if they would honor the online price with the in store discount & ship it to me. I don't live near a j. Crew so I can't easily go to a store & have them check. Any thoughts? I would appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteCheck the Lansing, MI - Eastwood Towne Center store.
Delete(517) 485-1947
They had an entire rack last time I was in, call and see if they have a 4! Also, they've always done online price-matches + applied any current % off sale promos for me so you should have some luck.
Hi! I saw a size 4 ivory with black piping peacoat today @ noon @ the Indianapolis store. 317-848-2739. They have 30% off sale, BuT it's final sale.
DeleteI second Sarah's question above. I'm looking at the Long Merino Cardigan in black (which was 62ish today). Should I have gotten an extra 30% off of the sale price (per online) today? I trust the JCA's so much more than the SA's!
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance!
Alice - The b&ms usually match the online price if you request it. Regarding an additional % off -- if an item is on promo (ending in .00), the addtl 30% off sale items will not apply in-store. The bar code won't recognize it as an item that should get an addtl % off.
DeleteIf there is a 'global' promo where your entire purchase is 30% off, then yes the addtl 30% off would apply to a promo priced item.
If the item ends in .99, the bar they scan for the discount will recognize it as an item on sale and automatically apply the addtl 30% off. Hope this helps.
I've had no problem having an extra % off added even to items ending in .00. I usually just mention that I can purchase it online under the sale section for an extra percent off and they go ahead and apply the percent-off manually in store.
DeleteGrrr, my store has not had the extra 30% off...and it didn't this past weekend either. I would've purchased a couple items from them had they had it still.
ReplyDeleteSarah......about the white peacoat with black trim. My store had a bunch in the sale section. Here's the phone number if you want to call and check. 503-624-6386. That's the Washington Square Mall J. Crew store in Portland, Oregon. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Straycat!! I appreciate it. :)
DeleteSara, if you have not found your tipped peacoat, the Annapolis (MD) and WDC (F St.) stores had several small sizes @ $129 w/add'l 30% off. HAS ANYONE SEEN THE CABERNET PEACOAT??? I didn't realize it existed until today (perhaps I wasn't looking past the blue). If anyone sees a 14 in blue or cabernet, please let me know. Thank you in advance!
ReplyDeleteSorry, meant to say that if you see a BLACK (not blue) or cabernet in a 14, please give me a shout!
