This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!
:)
I couldn't resist the Wool Schoolboy Blazer in modern red with the new markdown. Any ideas for how to wear it? Crazy catalog-like color combinations welcome.
ReplyDeleteHi Rosie! I'm styling this on my blog, be sure to check it out! http://everydaymusingsetm.blogspot.com/
DeleteIt would work with the minnies I am wearing in these photos.
DeleteI saw a SA wearing it with the black tartan perfect shirt and it was darling.
DeleteThanks, ladies! I wish the color were more of a red than a red-orange, but I'll try to make it work.
DeleteHi Rosie! I usually wear mine with a shade of blue, ie my blue gingham shirt. I also love it with turquoise!
Delete30% off and free shipping on all orders with the code WISHLIST!
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice of promo code, considering J. Crew's persistent lack of a wishlist feature on their site.
Maybe it's coming for Christmas? :D
DeleteOT - Lisa Lim/Confessions of a Call Center Gal released her 2nd book: She's the Boss, described as "The Devil Wears Prada meets The Office"
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! :)
I just received the Cafe capri in the Silk scarf foulard print and posted styling ideas for it on my blog here.
ReplyDeleteCat sweater finally on the web site, in case anyone has been waiting for it. :-)
ReplyDeleteMajesty peacoat in Dublin green has been added to sale if you love that color.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love mine. Such a happy color to wear on drab winter days.
DeleteIt's a beautiful color. I wish they had done the lady day or the metro or one of the trenches in it.
DeleteGreen Excursion Vest is in stock! I know one of you lovely ladies was looking for it!
ReplyDeleteI bought the tippi dot sweater in Byzantine blue and need some help styling it. Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteI discussed some styling issues here
ReplyDeleteI styled the factory checkered scarf (still available online by searching "sale"), heather sandstone tippi, and the faded chambray popover in cabo blue here:

Review of the take a bow sweater in this post.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone own the tiny dot Cafe capris? If so, how do you wear them? I have a pair sitting in my closet with the price tag still attached. I'm thinking of taking them back -- I live in Wisconsin, and I'm not diggin the idea of an exposed ankle all winter long. I'm cold, people! And when my legs/ankles/feet are cold, I'm miserable. I guess I have a lot of tops, so that's not the problem -- it's the shoes.
ReplyDeleteOne photo here. They 'go' with a lot of solid tops or sweaters, IMO.
DeleteI'm wearing the herringbone wool capris that I just received with trousers socks and Madewell booties. I think booties are a good way to go with cropped pants in the winter. I tried the macalister wedges with them this morning too, and they also work. I would also probably do brogues for more of a menswear look. Not sure that would work as well with the polka dots, but booties certainly would. HTH!
DeleteOops! I misread your request. I agree with ajr, booties go well with the capris, as do high-heels.
DeleteThere's been lots of comments on the lack of party dresses and over abundance of fancy pants at JC this season. An interesting editorial in the NYT today showcases the trend of wearing dressy pants to events, and features some j crew. Sorry, I'm on my phone, so I can't link, but it's in today's fashion section and called "Fancy Pants."
ReplyDeleteLate to the game on this, but...I just received the neon violet toothpicks and they are bright. I figured I could pair them with either gray or navy on top to tone it down a bit, but other than that, I'm stumped. Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated here, as I am totally in love with these ridiculously bright, incredibly soft pants. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI would try a top in the bisque colorway and a chambray or denim top always works IMO.
DeleteThey are really great pants! I have them in soft peach. I've seen the neon violet ones, as well, and I'm contemplating them.
DeleteI think grey and navy are great choices. Grey, it could be a light grey OR a dark heather grey. Navy, I'd go with a fairly deep navy.
I could also see the violet with camel (or wheat) or even black with possibly a white/cream layer underneath to help the transition between black and violet. As for other colors, it would be a statement (and tough to pull off depending on the top), but I could see it with something in a pastel yellow or bright pink. You could also pair it with another purple item to get that tone on tone look.
I think it'd also look great with a light blue/white striped button down.
I'd pair it with black ballet flats or brown/tan loafers.
You ladies are amazing. I appreciate you!!!!
DeletePine green also looks good with this color- remember the stripe sweater from last year? Any shade of gray- especially charcoal. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI would love it if you ladies could weigh in on something: I bought a navy duffle coat- which I LOVE- but I haven't worn it yet because I have this nagging worry that it's too...(i hate saying this)...too young for me. I'm turning 36 soon- is a duffle a coat for a woman in her 20's? It's supposed to be my casual-but-dressier-than-a-puffer coat. I ordered a grey cocoon coat to compare, since it seems more "grown up." Husband thinks I'm being silly. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeletekiwigem - I love the duffle. I'm older than you and think it's is fine for my age. I love the deep pockets and looove the stadium-cloth fabric. The cocoon is nice, but I think the duffle is more fun w/the different details. Plus I love the deep pockets. The navy is preppy & the duffle is a classic silhouette. Husby is right.
DeleteNow *I* just need to decide if light nectar is worth keeping or will be a nightmare to try to keep clean.
Thanks for talking me off the ledge! Husband will enioy being "right" so publicly. :-) Here's hoping i don't love the cocoon coat, too. I have decision fatigue...(I know, problems, problems..)
DeleteI hear you about the light nectar. It's lovely, but my kids use me as a napkin. It would never survive.
Has anyone reviewed the collection cashmere fair isle turtleneck?
