Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. So what is everyone wearing on national stripes day? I'm thinking the oversized multistripe tee over a button down.

    2. Happy National Stripes Day, y'all. Striped tee, Downtown Field Jacket and Hunter Boots today for me in the chilly, rainy Midwest.

    3. Sporting a Striped Boatneck (the coolest shade of blue and red/almost maroon) with burgundy cords, tan Ceces. NYC is also chilly and rainy today so I actually wore my Sperry for JC boots. (I didn't use my JC umbrella since that thing is adorable but ineffective against real rain! :-p

    4. striped socks! was going to wear an old JC cashmere sweater, but posted pics on IG instead, see @wellfedfred. How old? well, the label is striped silk faille ribbon, that's how old.

    5. Like Ruffles, I'm wearing a striped tee under my olive Downtown Field Jacket with my trusty Paige Hoxton Ankle jeans. Wearing leopard print Superga high tops instead of rain boots, since I don't have to go walk outside at all.

I had originally planned to wear my long sleeve striped maxi, but with our dreary, chilly weather, I decided to save it for a warmer day when I'd appreciate it more.

    8. Let's here it for stripes! It's actually a beautiful day here in Portland, Oregon so I'm wearing my new long sleeve striped dress which has to be in the top 10 favorite things I've ever bought from the Crew! Wore my white converse tennis shoes, denim jacket, big chunky gold necklace from a few years ago for the Crew, gold Micheal Kors watch and carried a navy, camel and orangey red Coach bag. Got tons of nice compliments all day!

  4. A few reviews of sale items from the large order I got sucked into placing earlier this week. Wool bow sweater-this is very short, a bit boxy and low cut on me as others have stated in reviews. I like the wool but it is a return. Silk pleated ruffle top in dark mauve-nice basic top. Silk seems a decent weight and fit in my normal size. Matches well with cropped silk foulard pants which were a surprise love. I purchased my normal pant size. I like how it has a zipper and button fly along with an elastic waist. I feel it made them fit me better. I could not size down due to my thighs but you might be able to. Campbell blazer in edenham floral- complaints that this is lightweight material and not fully lined in reviews. For me this is why it works. My office is ungodly hot and I roast in heavy blazers. I have it on today with a silk cami, jeans and green sloannes. So cute! Going places dress in lavender- ok fit, bad color for my skin tone, don't need, going back. Cropped ruffled khakis- I did not find these small as other reviews state, they were tts for me. cute but i rarely tuck tops in and rarely wear khakis. Worth $24 but I will return. I have the Chambray ones on the way to me and they will be more versatile for me if they fit. Also waiting on denim ankle flats. Taking my return back tomorrow morning and hoping not to find much to buy.

    1. Very helpful reviews, thanks, JessF! (I also giggled at the ungodly hot office comment, as I am victim of the same myself. I like button-downs under Tippis, but the few times I've done that, I've nearly melted in my office chair!) Anyways, glad you found some Loves in there! :-)

    2. I won't be visiting this weekend. I was in a few days ago and found two nice items, the Kayoko Liberty perfect shirt and a black merino Jackie cardigan. I tried on the gathered indigo gauze shirt in a 00, mu usual, and found it was very cute tucked in, but the fit was just too loose around my arms/bust. Maybe a 000 would work, but they did not have one. The fabric felt soft and the color was great. I'm on the lookout. Also tried the linen pop over in white, and it was okay but not a love. I had a hard time finding items I wanted to try- most are online and not in my local store. I'm hoping they bring in a few things I like, because of the $20 off $100 coupon, and I want the store to remain open. Yesterday the promo and sale-but-not-final-sale got me to order some bigger ticket pieces that I've wanted to try but have been waiting on: Point Sur high-waisted skinny jeans, Thomas Mason sleeveless top (still excluded from promos but counted for the gift card), denim pom pom gladiator sandals, and Collection Japanese denim Preston pants. I'm sure there was something else, too!

      Delete
    3. Those Japanese Denim Preston pants are a great price. I am hoping to catch them on pop back

    4. I hope you do, Jess F. If you get them, let us know how they work out. If they don't for me, I'll be returning a 0.

  5. I should add, in case any are considering, the Harlow cardigans and most sweaters excepting the merino Jackies, all looked pulled and old just from being on the rack. Some were in the condition that I would consider donating if they were in my closet. It was sad to see them being sold new. I also tried the tissue turtleneck blue/marine stripe tee, and it was supercute, but the seams and striped were off. As in, the stripes across my cheat ran crooked, and the side seams twisted near the bottom so that the seams were in back on one side and on the front of my torso on the other, instead of aligning along my sides. Disappointing. HTH.

    1. They really need to just donate that stuff and write it off as a loss on their taxes. Next time you should snap a pic and send it to Mickey.

      Delete
    2. It's such a shame, because the colors on the Harlow were so great--I got the gold and deep red--yet after one season they're fuzzy and ratty.

      Delete
    3. @Hexicon, I'm sorry yours did not last, either. I liked many of the color and the style, too. The deep red kept asking me to buy it ;) I didn't buy because of Final Sale, and when I saw them in person, I was glad I was so much more patient than usual. It is really annoying that you have these otherwise nice sweaters, but they wore so quickly.

@Cass that's a thought. Maybe J Crew will take quality issues seriously if they realize that sweaters are pill in right on the racks.

  6. I'm going in to return a skirt JC sent me with some small spots and someone else's pet's hair on it.

Only thing that interests me to try on if they have it is the new sleeveless sweater tank with the scalloped hem. Hopefully it's not too cropped.

  7. I got some new things yesterday, including the striped boatneck t I'm wearing (E6466).

Other keepers-- the kid's critter oxford with pizza slices (F9449). It's weird and awesome, and the size 14 fits fine.

I also think I'll keep the club-collar boy shirt in textured jacquard stripe (F4556) I got for a decent price, since it's more interesting than some of my other button downs.

I'm on the fence about the double-pleated midi in shadowbox print (F8964). I think it's cute? But I'm not in love with the material-- must not have been paying attention to the fact that it's poly when I ordered it. I wear a lot of cool colors, so it seems like something I could get a lot of use out of, but I'm not convinced yet. When I wear prints, I either go with something super classic or something fairly weird. This print is sort of in the middle of those two points, which might be why I'm unsure about making it feel like my own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. @Monica Bonica that's what I think about the berry print skirt. It is cute, but it is poly, and my current goals won't let me buy it. There will be something else perfect coming along anytime now.

  8. I won't visit—was considering going today to try and return the star toothpicks, but it's so yucky out I think I'll stay put. I did check online this morning and the collection blazer in ratti acid rose was available in my size and I bit (had to get a stylist to chase it down after it disappeared from my cart).its definitely a bolder more colorful look for me but I think it could be a great statement piece to wear with my more subdued wardrobe.

Not sure what stripes I'll wear today. Put on a striped tee I bought last summer and didn't wear and it's shorter than I like so it's getting listed on PM.

    1. The Ratti Acid Rose print is one of my favorites in recent years. It is kinda loud but it's gorgeous. I bought the skirt, haven't worn it yet, but love it. The bag I returned because I thought a silk tote really couldn't hold much without being ruined. It's also beautiful too though.

      Delete
    2. @ST, My biggest concern is that there's a lot of purple in the print and I don't love purple (except for makeup). Hopefully the print itself is enough of a wow that I dont overthink my self imposed color restrictions.

    3. I too have the skirt and love the print. The yellow is so beautiful! I hope the blazer works out for you @SuzHas. :)

  9. I got a few things yesterday....LOVE LOVE LOVE the long sleeved striped dress! I would buy this dress in black in a hot minute! Are you reading this Mickey??? The button up shirt in striped linen is very well made....but it just didn't do anything for me. The stripes are too subdued in color for me. But it fit really nicely. So back it went. I love the navy heavy cotton pea coat. Definitely a keeper. The cropped trench is on it's way as well...hope it's just as nice. But I'm afraid of it being too short. We'll see. Got the fun tassel earrings and I'm thinking on them. They seem to hang weird but I do love the color combo.

    1. Agreed-- that dress is just so darn great. It's a nice weight, and it looks good on all shapes and sizes I've seen, which rocks. Black would be great! It sounds so chic.

    2. YES. Jenna is wearing it in a little IG video for nationalstripesday and it looks great. She's wearing a chambray shirt underneath.

    3. Suz....that sounds sooo cute. I couldn't wear a shirt under mine cause I got manly arms and shoulders...ha! I didn't want to size up because the rest of the dress would have been too big. What makes this dress so great is the long darts in the front giving it a shaped waistline. So many dresses like this style lack spaing and on me look like huge sacks. I'm going to email and ask if making this dress in black would be a consideration. It would be an all around dress....summer with cute sandals, great big earrings and a wicker or straw bag and in the winter with black booties and a leather coat. I'll let everyone know if I get a response!

    4. I just bought this dress for the second time! I originally bought it last year and now I can't find it (I'm really baffled). They actually lowered the price from it was first released ($128 down to $98). I purchased it when it was 30% off and I had a $25 gift card so I don't feel too bad about it. And yes, black would be great!

      Delete
    5. I have broad shoulders relative to my very narrow torso and I might not be able to layer either. If they make it in black I will try it.

      Delete
    6. I have a hard time with straight dresses since my waist is so small. Usually I belt, but this seems to offer a fitted silhouette even without a defined waistline.

    7. Another long sleeve maxi... Yes. I had one from Target in a heathered gray with black shoulders. I loves the hell out of it. It even stretched to fit perfectly throughput pregnancy, and back to an hourglass shape. Unfortunately, the quality being subpar, and machine washing for convenience, it's worn out. I hope J Crew makes another version, too!

    1. I just ordered a few things on the 30% off $200.00 or more. I reordered the off the shoulder chambray dress because it went from selling out in a minute and being told they didn't know when it would be back to the NEXT morning it being back in all sizes to two days later it going on sale!!! I'm back on the gerbil wheel!!! Ha! Also ordered the big green flower Ratti pencil skirt, the navy gingham blazer, the new gingham pull on skirt...did I mention I like gingham...and a tee shirt. I received the cropped trench yesterday...the one with the navy collar. This is a darling coat but I'm going to have to play around with it. I suspected the length might be too short and it may go back. But it's really nicely made. I'd love to hear if you guys ordered anything!

    4. Oh yeah....I got the $25.00 gift card too, but will return the chambray dress probably so maybe the card will be deactivated. It would be cool to still be able to use it, but I understand if it doesn't if you return the entire order or a part of it.

      Delete
    5. @straycat - any comments on the chambray dress? Am hoping it looks ok on shoulder. I am thinking this may be the final version of the look that @howtojcrew wore for nyfw in the fall. I loved that look and was hoping they would have it.

    6. As soon as I get it I'll do my review. Looks like it should come next Friday. I live on the west coast so it takes a week usually. Probably some other ladies here will receive it before me.

      Delete
    7. Just got off the phone with CS and I can't get a price adjustment and I if I return everything the value of the giftcard will be deducted from the total. If I returned everything and rebought it would save me an additional $40 and that's if I keep everything. Not sure that hassle is worth it. Ugh.

      Delete
    8. @liztriden - thanks for reporting back. That stinks. I don't begrudge them getting the cost of the gift card back - that part is fair - but give the option to decommission it if it hasn't been used. I read over the fine print on it before placing my order and they really didn't explain how returns would work. I am certain I will return at least something in the order :/. It's the drakes elephant and the chambray off the shoulder dress and the long striped cotton dress.

      Delete
  11. I'm deciding whether to reorder things again with the new promo. I already have the elephant dress and Chambray off the shoulder dress coming twice next week due to promo changes so not sure I want to do a third order!. :/. They arrive Tuesday so if the fit is good will likely order yet again to get the 30%. It looks like the bounce card is good regardless of returns.

  12. Going today to make returns at both J.Crew and Madewell.

While the pink Madewell overalls I ordered fits everywhere even the length, I just can't think of a convenient way when I have to go use the restroom w/out undressing the top portion of the jumpsuit and trying to hold it together as to not let the sleeves dangle as you're doing your business..oh gosh TMI..why do I even bother trying on jumpsuits 😂. Too bad because it fits...just not worth the hassle I have to go through.

The J.Crew chambray jumpsuit is a love, but the P2 did not fit me at the waist. P4 is sold out and so I ordered a 2. I know the length would be long but hemming it should fix it. Since I'm petite, I thought it looked cool how the pant length was long on me, making it look flowy and wide legged, not cropped like on the model.

  13. OT - whoever it was that recommended the Stylebook app on a thread back in February- it's been awesome. Thank you for the suggestion. It's been fascinating to see what I really wear, cost per wear, etc. I think I'm finding that my jeans, Gemmas, statement necklaces and la canadienne boots are all good investments for the amount of wear they get! And my daughter had me load in pictures of her clothes so she could plan her outfits too. It's been a lot of fun.

    1. Laura....I'm so interested in checking this out. How do I find this Stylebook app?

      Delete
    2. @straycat - it was in the Apple Store for iPad/iPhone. I think it was 3.99. I'm not sure if they have for android. You load in photos of your wardrobe- after failing at taking good pictures if my clothes I realized you can google crew and the style number and find almost everything that way ( in some cases I googled names of items until I found something close enough in color, etc). You can note additional details like how much you paid for the item - I found I had a lot of receipts in my inbox to get actual numbers. From there you can assemble outfits from things you have into looks - you can add looks or individual items to a calendar. I realized I could figure out a lot of what I wore from pictures. Now I put in what I wore each day and can plan work outfits for the week. I'm kind of a numbers geek so this has been great.

      Delete
    3. That sounds really fun! I like doing that kind of organizing too. Sounds very inspiring too...getting ideas on how to do more mixing and matching of things you already own.

    3. @Laura Matey. I think I know what you mean. I've had a few pair of pajamas that have done something similar. A friend referred to this as me "blowing out the "rear"" of my jammies. It happened that often. Lol. Maybe you could find a new pair online. Otherwise, let us know if they can be mended. Maybe someone talented could fix them and make it look cool.

      Delete
    4. @Laura Matey, the same exact thing happened to me with a pair of denim shorts a very long time ago, same spot. I bet denim (and cotton, for that matter, as has happened to Sarah) wears out in that area more quickly due to constant friction from the fabric rubbing each time you stand or sit. I remember patching my shorts with plaid fabric (this was in college and it seemed like a preppy solution!) Either way, I'm hoping you're able to salvage or find a good replacement - I feel your pain, we've all been there! ☹️

  18. Went to make returns at both retail and factory. Did not make a purchase in retail. Tried on the Drakes Elephant print dress and it was so dowdy on me. The colors in the print are beautiful. Wish they made something else in this print. At my factory store the clearance section had some retail leftover goodies. I purchased the Maddie pant for $10, black toothpick jeans for $17.50 and Stewart plaid Martie pant for $20. Couldn't pass them up. Also got a few clearance jewelry pieces and the striped blazer which was only $38 after all the promos. The SA said they got the retail items from some sort of warehouse clean out a few weeks ago. I was happy to find some items in my size. Now it is really back to the more thoughtful shopping. I did good for 3 months. I need to get back on track.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Those are great finds @JessF. Your post also reminded me of a thought from earlier today. How is everyone doing with more thoughtful shopping/purchases? That is, those who aim to. I have been quite good. I have not recently purchased anything that 'almost fits' or just seems like a good deal but I would rather have something else. I've also sold a few items that I never or rarely wore, which I am happy about.

      Delete
    2. Just 3 purchases in 3 months for me. I've worn out a couple of older items and that was satisfying -- like I got my money's worth. I have plenty of clothes for summer, so I'm going to try keeping my slow-shop going a bit longer.

      Delete
    3. I really like this concept of thoughtful shopping. I'm really concentrating on that as well. I have been taking a few things home and ordering a few, but really taking my time to consider if they are items I really need and really want. I'm committed to keeping items that only fit correctly, are of quality and that really flatter me. Because I and all of you deserve that! If we settle for an ill-fitting or unflattering item it creates a mindset for us that we don't deserve the best. We all deserve the best of everything!

      Delete
    4. It's been going really well for me! I've stopped buying jeans (I've got like 20 pairs 🙈) because I know I have 2-3 that I wear the heck out of and don't really need more. I'm more thoughtful about remembering that while some styles look fabulous on you ladies, they do not look good on my petite frame, and so don't get stuck in the order, try on, return saga. I used to hit that $150 mark with stuff I only kinda liked to get the free shipping - now I've found a stylist I love who will waive shipping for me even on small orders. I am constantly doing an inventory of my closet and weeding things out and refreshing my memory of what is already there. If I try something on and can identify one fit issue or I don't absolutely love it, it immediately is a no, because I know if it doesn't fit right or I am undecided that really means I won't wear it.

      Delete
    5. I think the $150 threshold for free shipping is what got me to stop placing so many orders. Once I started making only thoughtful purchases I would have one item in my cart I really wanted. Instead of adding all the maybes to get the free shipping ( as I would in the past) I just let that item in my cart until there was a free shipping day or until there was $150 worth of items that I truly wanted to purchase. If it was something I had to have that seemed to be going in and out of stock I would pay shipping but that may have happened once in 3 months. Even though I made a large order last week I did return over half of it and only kept what really made me feel great.

      Delete
    6. @JessF what a great idea strategy! There is so much psychology to the free shipping offer and all these other rotating sales. It is truly exhausting! I've found I've become so much happier with small, thoughtful purchases! Although now I'm in a conundrum with this newest promo as I already have 2 sizes of the chambray dress (full price purchases) - I'm thinking of ordering the sizes again to get the promo and just end up having to take 3-4 dresses back depending on if they work! 🙈

      Delete
    7. Thank you. It's good to hear of all your efforts & techniques! The psychology of shopping and dressing are tasty food for thought.

    8. I've been doing terribly! Thank goodness I do return a lot, sell a lot of my older stuff that I don't wear, and have only few colors I wear...were it not for those restrictions, forget it. That said I'm trying to be more conscientious about what I keep and I have not pulled the trigger on items I like just because. I did replenish my sweater collection when the Cambridge crewnecks went on sale for a very good price. I told myself I'd stop buying jeans but then I cbougt a few Levis. I know I can sell them if I don't wear them enough.

  19. I went and tried a few things on. They have a new (beautiful) Drake print but for the time being it's only offered in a sundress with spaghetti straps that isn't the most flattering for us not in our 20s. I will post pics.

    1. This is the dress I tired on yesterday. It was terribly frumpy on me. The silhouette was bad for my shape and I don't really do spaghetti straps. The print was so vibrant! Why do they seem to make the other Drakes prints in five different items and this in one. It would be super cute on a short sleeve top or tank without spaghetti straps.

  20. I ordered a few items on Tuesday and chose the pick-up in store option. I can see from the tracking number everything was delivered Friday morning. I still haven't received and email or anything saying my order is ready. Anyone else had a similar experience? When should I expect an email?

    1. I would call the store and verify that they've received the item and it's available for pick up. I think that they are still working out some issues with this process.

I had my item delivered to the store in Oakbrook, IL and followed up on the delivery myself. I noticed that the item had been delivered and picked up the item before I got an official notice. The official email came about 3 days after I picked up the item.

I kept getting emails stating that the order was ready and I needed to pick it up and then finally a call from the store on Friday inquiring if I had picked up my order. I called the store and they mentioned that there had been a few issues with their system. I just received an email Saturday evening thanking me for picking up my order and it's been almost 2 weeks. 21. I'm noticing that a lot of petite sizes on popular items have been selling out fast. As always, late to the party, so by the time I've warmed up to an item ready to buy, it's already sold-out. Either that, J.Crew has scaled back production.

    1. I have noticed that among other retailers as well. Even Loft who does great petite offerings has started having things sell out very quickly. Boden has been the biggest change that I have seen. Most dresses used to be available for petites and now it is pretty rare which is disappointing.

    2. A few things that didn't work out for me. The cropped trench....I know it is "cropped" but it just hits too short on me. Back it goes. I ordered the Denim tie waist shirt from Madewell. The photo online shows that the shirt is long from the tie down. NO. It's not in real life. It's about half as long as in the photo making it look...well like someone cut of 5 inches off the shirt! The shortness of it when cinched by the belt makes the bottom hem stick out all around my hips. No a good look. Disappointed in that because it really looked great in the photo.

    3. @JSR, i'm 4'11" so I opt for Petite when I can (I think you're a fellow Petite, too, IIRC!) and I've also noticed that Petite items seem to sell out faster than Regular. I hadn't considered that it might be due to efforts by JC to scale back production costs! Interesting.

    4. @TM93 - Yeah, we are the same size; 4'11, 36B. Hehehe..

    5. Gosh, I certainly hope they don't start offering less petite sizing on items. I'd seriously be so sad as this is one of my favorite things about jcrew (the plethora of petite sized items)!

  22. in case I don't get to post this on next week's review thread -- remember the "heavy while empty" test for bags? I think it now applies to jackets and coats. Most recently after a lot of agonizing I returned the cropped black lady jacket, because I knew that all I'd do with it would be to take it off. I also returned the cotton pea coat, which to my mind goes well beyond substantial. Ooof. Between the weight and the tight arms, I knew i'd never wear it on a boat (friend has made the investment, so I wanted to be prepared). I loved both jackets until I tried them on, and I really dithered over that lady jacket.

    1. I've similarly started thinking about that with coats and jackets. I used to exclusively buy long coats like the lady day and boulevard trench, but I'm choosing shorter cuts these days since I often find myself carrying them around once I get to work. Some days I run between meetings all over my giant corporate HQ, and toting around a big coat is annoying (since my days don't always start and end in my office, it's impractical to just stash it there). Glad I'm not the only one!

  23. Found 2 pairs of Campbells and 1 pair of Pixies in Marshalls' clearance racks, all for $16. Not my sizes (00, 6. 4p) but if anyone is interested let me know.

Now I am going through the rest of the clearance racks and see if there are tops!

  24. wellfedfred....I bought the heavy cotton pea coat too and I'm thinking, as much as I love it, may be too heavy. And I don't have a friend with a boat....but I sure would like to find one!! Hee
