This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I am considering trying some white jeans this year (first time ever!) and am looking for suggestions (any retailer really). I am having lots of difficulty finding jeans and pants lately. As a fitness professional I have larger thighs and often have to size up in pants but then they don't fit in other areas. I know the stretchier jeans are popular but I really dislike the "jegging" type jeans. I like thicker, more substantial denim. And I don't want them to be too tight or see thru. I'm not sure if what I'm looking for is out there :-/
ReplyDeleteI have some white skinny jeans from Gap from last year. They are substantial denim, not stretchy. Not sure about this year's model, but I like mine. They're slim, but not jegging type.
Delete@lauren I have been having the same problem. I actually just bought the white toothpicks with the stars and posted a pic on IG. Everyone seems to Like them but I swear all I see are my thighs, so I don't recommend (and I have buyers remorse...didn't realize store sale items are final sale...I'm annoyed I bought them because I actually ordered them online NOT final sale but figured I'd try them on while I was in store...but i digress...) I just ordered several pairs of jeans from Levis.com. Awhile back I ordered a bunch of different women's 501s and definitely prefer the 100 percent cotton. This time I took a chance and ordered some Men's 501s (you have to size up if you go this route...for example, I'm a 25 in women's but knew men's 501 in a 30 are a little slouchy so I ordered a 29 in men's). I like the fit a lot. I tend to wear, them on my hips as opposed to on my waist, and the 29 sits right on my upper hip. The thighs are a comfortable width. They're long but I cuff them anyway and could always cut them if I wanted. I do t have a Levis store near me but they have a big selection online .
DeleteI just bought white skinnies from madewell and they are awesome. They are opaque and the fit is flattering. They totally make me feel good and i have been looking for white denim for a while. They have stretch, but not too much. They were TTS for me.
DeleteGap jeans - real straight style. I'm pretty much addicted to these jeans. Most times they are 97% cotton with 3% Lycra. Even the styles with some poly in them are not horribly "jeggings"-like. I dislike the super clingy jeans for the same reason you do. Give them a try!
DeleteI have decided to dare some white jeans this summer as well! I'm an hourglass with what I'd like to think are athletic thighs (but who am I kidding). I decided on the wide-leg style as a way of balancing out the proportions, bought a pair of white Rayner jeans on super sale, and a blue/white wideleg pair from Gap. Haven't worn them yet as it is actually still snowing out there, but I like the fit and the fabric is very nice on both - hoping I can get my head around white thighs... Also bought the cream toothpicks with the stars as I think the pattern makes it easier, but they are a bit more jegging-like as the material is quite stretchy (but not thin). I am going to try those with longer tops to reduce the fear factor ;)
DeleteI love my white Lookouts! I bought a cropped pair (26" inseam) at the beginning of last summer & wore them at least once a week. I LOVE these jeans. Lots of stretch but no bagging - not see-through, either. I'm pretty proportional with a "c-section" pooch, size 10 right now, & I love how they look. Good luck!
DeleteWow, ladies! Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I haven't tried Gap jeans in a while so I'll have to check them out. I've been eyeing the Lookouts (they get great reviews) so I'll def try those soon!
DeleteCagliari67, I'm glad you decided to venture out into the white jeans territory! You can do it! You look great in everything! Plus, you are tall which I feel helps somehow ;)
DeleteHi, Lauren. I recommend the lookout highrise by JCrew in white. I do size up (I'm a 10 in pants, which "should" equate to a 30; I wear a 31 in dark rinse but prefer this style in white in a 32). They are stretchy, but aren't a jegging style IMO. I wear nude undies with them, but they are a thicker material (can't see the pockets).
ReplyDeleteHa, Wendy, I just saw your comment after I posted, above! Great minds. :) I sized up too.
