Not a vent, just an observation about J Crew collabs. Carhartt? I know people must love collabs because they keep doing them, but I don't need another place to buy Seavees. I wish they would focus their energy on their own unique quality and style and stop "borrowing" it. Carhartt is trending, I get it, but listen to your customers and we will buy!
ReplyDeleteThat is... odd!
DeleteMy vent today is that I'm wearing a navy Tippi turtleneck & it is sheer. Glad I thought to wear a navy tank underneath - the tank front is a v-neck & it had slipped a bit. I could see the top of my bra in the mirror when I went to the bathroom a few minutes ago. UNDER A NAVY TURTLENECK! What? No.
I thought the same thing when I saw that Ruffles. ??wha???
DeleteCarhartt?! Sears used to have a collaboration with them. Stooping down to Sears level??
DeleteI'm glad I wasn't the only one who was perplexed by this one.
DeleteI can't get full-length work pants or knits that will survive more than a few wears, but welding outfits? Check.

DeleteIt seems like a paint splatter Carhartt collaboration would be a logical next step. Throw on a scarf and some glittery heels and I can see why someone might freak out.
Delete^lolol
DeleteI agree and disagree...In the past, many of JC's and Madewell's collaborations have led me straight to some great companies. But I do agree about Seavees and Carhart. Also, JC quality and styles just don't do it for me anymore. It looks just like stuff from the Gap.
Deletewhat ever happened to all the great handbags/purses JCrew would roll out....I have not purchased a bag in a few years.
ReplyDeleteAgree, the older styles were much cuter and there was more variety.
DeleteI wish they would make ONE pair of full-length, non-skinny, non-distressed cotton pants. Actually I would love it if they made several pairs of pants like that, but I'd settle for one decent pair at this point.
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd bring back the cotton Cafe Trouser. I have several pairs still - in the cotton & the wool - & I wear them frequently. That was a great pant!
DeleteJ.Crew hates full length pants and only grudgingly throws a few our way each season. :)
DeleteYes yes yes. Please some nice washable full length pants. I work in a hospital and am on my feet all day. I wear sneakers to work and I don't want my ankles exposed (it looks dorky with the shoes I wear plus they have a rule you have to wear socks, so short pants with socks and sneakers..HA). I'm not a nurse and don't wear scrubs so I need nice, cotton, washable pants (...again, hospital). Please just a great fitting, high quality chino like J. Crew used to do for so many years! You would not believe how tricky it has become to find this simple item.
DeleteThey had a chino called the Waverly a few years back that was exactly that. A straight leg, not skinny, not full either, cotton chino, no distressing and I loved and bought several. They even came in a nice light color khaki that i prefer. Not sure when they decided to crop every pant or make them either super skinny or super full.
Delete@Dianne@Julie Taylor, have you looked into JC chino G0639? TTS, full length , great fitting and good quality . I'm 5'8" and quite happy how they fit. They are on the sale section now (navy , soft pink and light cream ) most sizes still available . Hope this helps
DeleteThanks Nan! I had those on my wishlist but keep hesitating..I'm 5'10" and worried they will be a tad short. Also some reviewers said the leg was overly flared...did you find it so?
DeleteWide but definitely not as wide as NAP pants ( the one they had in navy with pipping on the sides) . I found them to be very flattering . As yet, they are not final sale so you would be able to try (and hopefully keep) without a final commitment.
DeleteI saw those, Nan, and was scared off by all the negative reviews (legs too wide). Maybe I will give them a try after all. Thank you! And I'm with Taylor--I loved the Cafe Trouser. Sadly all of mine are too small post-baby.
Delete@Diane, I will just add that the online picture on the model is pretty accurate on how it will look ( I know that it is not always the case ) . And being that it is not final sale , no harm in trying
Delete@Nan Updating to add that upon review, these are still a pass for me. I'm only 5'4" so the 32" inseam on the regular length is WAY too long for me (want to wear these with flats) and they're sold out in my size in Petite. More importantly, all the reviews from shorter ladies suggest they are not flattering because they're too wide in the leg/too long in the rise. I'm glad they work for you--I wish they would work for me too! But I really appreciate your kind suggestion. The hunt continues.
DeleteI bought a scarf edged with pompoms last year, just started wearing it a few weeks ago, and one by one the pompoms are all falling off. It's like I'm leaving a trail of fluffy breadcrumbs everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to take pleasure from your misfortune but the "finally breadcrumbs" had me actually laughing out loud. :)
DeleteDamn autocorrect, that should be 'fluffy'
DeleteThey had a striped to with pompoms around the hem that I thought was so cute but I feared the pompoms would start falling off and I'd look like one of those signs with missing letters.
DeleteLadies, take a look at the Boden pants. There are so many cuts for work or casual use, solid and prints, all cotton or polyester ponte stretch. They don't have rips or paint splotches on them, though. I saw a beautiful cotton lace dress lined in cotton, too.
DeleteThat is quite the personal signature, cobalt. Sorry!
DeleteMy J.Crew vent is the frustration I feel when I try to order a new item, Collection Ultra Wide Leg Cotton Pant, and the item is already sold out! What?!?! How can it be sold out, it was just placed on site? What's the secret to purchasing before an item is on the website? Thanks for any suggestions.
ReplyDeleteTry calling the 2 collection stores in NYC--you can find in Store Locator section of the site. Both on Madison Ave.
DeleteIn fun news - J.Crew declares March 31st, Nat'l Stripes Day! Weeeeeee...
ReplyDeletehttp://nymag.com/thecut/2017/03/march-31-is-now-national-stripes-day-thanks-to-j-crew.html
I have to get the long sleeve maxi dress in stripe hemmed in time :)
DeleteI saw that but I guess the question is, why?
DeleteHave things been going to markdown more quickly, or have I just been looking at the site less often? The lightweight tweed jacket (G0944) is $100 off - wasn't that part of the February rollout?
ReplyDeleteThat's my impression as well, silver_lining! I've done a few double-takes while browsing sale and the thought process is something like, 'Didn't that JUST come out?' I think JC's production record must be so delayed, so off -- releasing items too late in the season so that they've no choice but to discount quickly. (I noticed this last year as well.)
DeleteExactly a week ago I bought those Soft petal blossom earrings - I believe they're from early February per one review on the site. Anyways, I bought them on sale last week (I think they came out to $32), but currently they're in the Sale section for $30 with 30% off or some such.
Ladies, those items are surprising. @TM93, I was eyeing those earrings even though I don't have pierced ears lol. I tried a clip on converter once with Jcrew earrings, I don't think it would work with those but they look so pretty.
DeleteYep, pretty much everything from February style guide is on sale. Even new releases are 40% off when stores let you stack 30% off + educator. Little incentive to pay FP.
DeleteJust got the new catalog (sorry, but I refuse to call it a style guide)...It looks like Gap or Old Navy but at higher prices. I really can't get excited about any of it. And they keep writing dumb things like, "ONLY $98" for a nothing jacket that isn't even worth $98. Plus, everything continues to be made in China...
ReplyDeleteJust want to agree with the posters above about J Crew's apparent HATE of full length pants. I just don't get it! I absolutely HATE short pants they look ridiculous with so many different shoes! Why Why can't they make more regular length pants???
ReplyDeleteGood point! I just find full length pants a lot more flattering than cropped pants (remember when Tim Gunn used to tell women on his fashion show to ditch all the capris in their closet?)--but I have to agree that matching shoes with cropped pants is also more complicated.
DeleteJ. Crew online site from my desktop is not loading at all..So frustrated!
