Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I've shared some of my favorite 'other retailer' items that I'm loving right now on my blog in this post: Playing Favorites.....

  2. I stopped in my local Limited for the first time in ages and was happily surprised by the offerings -- nicely tailored pieces, lined (!), and styles that are current but not too out-there. I lost interest in Limited when I started drinking the Crewlade, but I think I'll start paying more attention to them again.

    1. I am a huge fan of their blazers. They're structured yet comfy, always fit well & come in tons of fun colors & prints! Plus they run great sales.

    2. I was out shopping with a friend and she got two great blazers at The Limited yesterday - 50% with coupon. I thought they were nice and noted that I need to check them out more often too.

    3. I just purchased a pair of dark camel pants this week, after not having shopped there in years, and I love them. They were $24 after sale & promo and to be honest, the quality was basically the same as the J.Crew Campbell in bi-stretch wool except the fit was much better.

    1. Thank you! I've signed up for the emails multiple times but never get them.

  5. About a year ago I stopped buying j crew shoes. Too many synthetic materials, not enough quality, too expensive... I've been searching department stores for a new source for shoes. I ordered 4 pair from Bodens clearance sale. Most around $50. They remind me of classic J crew. Leather soles, cute foot bed liners, fun colors, shoe bags. I am very pleased! If your size is sold out keep watching. 2 of my 4 pair were "pop backs". If they are returns you cannot tell from the packaging. Unlike another retailer!

    1. Hi Crewmum - I love how Boden's shoes look but have never tried them. How is sizing?

    2. I ordered a 38. I take an 8 or 8H in j crew shoes. Boden has free shipping & returns so it's safe to try a pair!

    3. Thanks! Their shoes really fit my aesthetic so I definitely will be ordering some!

    4. I am a very consistent US size 10 and almost always need at 42 in boden shoes (most charts call that a 10.5 - 11). So, at least on the larger end, I find their shoes to run a bit small. Great quality though, the few pairs I've had were nice leather, well sewn, leather soles, etc.

    5. I posted pics of the Boden Lille heels which are on clearance on my Instagram.

  6. I totally agree with Julie - I wear a size 10 but order a size 42 from Boden. Their shoes are amazing! I have so many pairs now and all are high quality, comfortable, and stylish!

  7. My Land's End items arrived:

Women's Mid Rise 7" Chino Shorts: $55. Great fit. I typically take a 6 in J. Crew shorts and liked the 4 in these shorts. These shorts have a nice weight (not too thin). 98% cotton, 2% spandex

Women's Drifter Cable Sweater: $49.99. Great sweater. I typically take a XS or S in J. Crew sweaters and the XS was a good fit for me in this sweater. It is a bit of a relaxed fit so some people might want to size down. Again, I liked the weight of this sweater - 100% cotton. Liked that only the front body was cabled and the rest of the sweater was smooth - great look/less bulk. I got a bright yellow, which has sold out, and a true white - this sweater comes in a rainbow of colors (some are on sale).

I recommend both items - good quality and price.

  8. If you like JC's collection pieces or comparable items at a steep discount, then you may want to check out Neiman Marcus. They're having the fall & winter consolidation sale starting tomorrow. Prices will be up to 70% off after taking 20% off current sale price. I've found that clothing tends to be more highly discounted and shoes are closer to 60-65% off. Great deals can be found & you won't break the bank or your budget. As an example, I bought black Prada scrunch loafers for about $140 last year. I tend to buy shoes at the sale because my feet are "picky" so I have to wear well made shoes for the most part or else my feet hurt. So, you might check to see if your local Neiman's is one of the sites having the consolidation sale. I'm in D/FW & the sale will be @ Northpark.

  9. Boden has a new pant collection called the Richmond collection. There are 4 different cuts and they are available in various lengths. Might be worth a try given so many of us are having such difficulty finding a JC trouser to suit our bodies.

    1. I had bad luck with these unfortunately. They run a smidge looser in the waist than the Chelseas/Bistros but not large enough to order a size down, the overall effect made them slide down and become saggy/baggy-bottomed. I also wanted the 7/8 and the straight trouser to be a truly slim cut through the leg. But, with their great return policy, don't let me discourage you from trying them! And I see they just added a cigarette version but I am not a fan of the pocket orientation and side-zip cuts on my body type.

    1. Here in Canada, Anthro's standard shipping $20 US, which comes up to almost $30 Cdn right now :| And most of the stuff I'm interested in there are online exclusives!

  11. UNIQLO & Ines de la Fressange recently launched their Spring/Summer 2016 Collection, and there is a lot to love. For you ladies who prefer natural fibers, the line includes a lot of pieces made from 100% cotton, as well as numerous cotton/cashmere blends. With reasonable price points, natural fabrics, and beautiful attention to detail, the line definitely warrants having a look-see. I've shared more details, as well as what I'm loving in this post.
