J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. I'm so bored, not seeing anything special I have to have even with a holiday gift card to spend. And I definitely won't bite if there's not a full-priced percentage promo.

    2. Same, Alyssa. I was really excited for the roll-out, but most of the stuff I'm interested in was from the last one (mostly striped basic shirts), and all of it is still full-priced. To be fair, I'm generally not a spring person when it comes to fashion (pastels and florals don't look great on me), so I'm sure it'll make other people happy!

    3. Same, Alyssa and Xan. Have a couple of stripe tops in my cart. Waiting for promotion. Yawn.

    4. *Shrug*. The tipped jackie caught my eye, but not much else this time around.

  2. Is anyone else having trouble with free shipping? I'm in Canada, which should be getting that as well as long as it's standard shipping, but my shopping cart and check-out still have $12 Cdn shipping listed.

    1. Nevermind! It seems to have been fixed now.

  3. No promos for the new arrivals and nothing I can't wait for, wish that the tipped Jackie was for cotton not wool. I wear a lot of cotton Jackies in the spring so it would have been nice to see them, maybe next roll out as I sense the tipped sweaters are a trend...

    1. I'm not a fan of tipped sweaters but I agree that they will be a trend - I've already seen them at a couple other retailers.

  4. I ordered the
    Fair Isle classic turtleneck sweater
item E6055 and I like it although I have not worn it yet. It is a tad bit short (not a deal killed but almost) so if you have a long torso this likely won't work. The quality is very good.

  5. OT - Madewell also launched a mini roll-out.
I'm kind of liking the denim skirt with a tie at the waist.

J.Crew really turned down the volume on the oomph factor; everything looks so basic, not much to wow about. They used to do prints so well. The ones they released, I'm not into as much.

    I only liked:
    Long sleeve jumper
    Ruffle shirt in stripe
    Kiki Ballet flats in hydrengia
I thought I liked the Collection Moto jacket in 'Ash', but im not loving the color after all. It's not a true grey but has a tinge of brown or olive, almost putty/dark taupe, and it might not work on my skin tone.

These are the stand out pieces I liked, for now. Also like some collection pieces but the bottoms are not offered in petite.

    1. Thanks for the heads up about the Madewell roll-out, JSR! A couple of things caught my eye.
      -Veranda Sleeveless Sweater (not new)
-Courier Shirt in Orsa Print (I look at these every roll-out, but I'm not sure about how over-sized they are)
-Ring stud earrings, not that I need another pair.

    2. maryeb, I haven't tried on that particular courier shirt, but did try (and buy) the chambray one. I could have gone either way with the sizing on this one. I'm usually a Medium, and ended up buying the Medium. The Small also fit, but I feel like I lost some length in it. It's meant to be oversized, and I thought the fit was better on me in my regular size. I'm sure I could have been happy with the Small too, though. HTH.

  6. I didn't see anything I was interested in except the gingham popover that has been featured. However, I will not buy it unless there is a promo. I actually am glad that there is not a lot that I like, I am still in clean out mode.

  7. Playing final sale roulette again. Ordered the thistle pant and chain mail collection tank. Per CS measurements, there's a shot they may work. Cashmere wool blend tneck arrived yesterday with pills already in place-no wearing required. Oy. It's the most gorgeous shade of green...

  8. I took advantage of the free shipping to gamble on a few sale items. They finally updated the sale section a bit (added about 300+ to women's sale). It's been about a week since they made any significant update to it. I'll wait out new arrivals until there's a promotion or until things are reduced. There wasn't anything too exciting that I would buy full price.

  11. Ho hum. Remember how excited we all got at the sleeveless gray mockneck top in the last rollout? More styles like that please. Show us something fresh!

  12. Prices on new roll out are insane! Cotton plaid shirt for $89 (pretty sure the last plaid boy shirt I bought this past year was $78 full price). T shirt with 10% cashmere, $85. Too much for me.

  13. Hello ladies! I'm new to J Crew and wanted some help with shoe sizing, I'm generally a 7 1/2 to 8, are their shoes comfortable and how is the fit? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Anna Maria, I have a lot of Jcrew shoes and normally I'm a size 9 in their shoes but sometimes there are exceptions where I've had to size down half a size or up half a size. I find the ankle boots, Mcallister wedges, most sandals and the Dulci kitten heels that I have comfortable but again there are exceptions. The only horribly uncomfortable shoe I bought was the Hayes sandal last summer (now with heel cushions I can atleast wear them). Most that I've bought are made in Italy which I appreciate. I know some don't like their shoes for comfort but I've had pretty good luck.
My advice is to post specific pairs you are interested in on this blog and ask for advice. I've often bought online successfully by doing that in case a certain shoe warrants sizing up or down. Hth

    2. Hi Jan Thanks for the info, specifically I'm looking at the Dulci kitten heels, D'orsay flats and Gemma flats.

    3. Anna Maria: Like jan, I take a size 9 in most J. Crew shoes. I definitely take a 9 in all the shoes you listed. And, the shoes you listed have been super comfortable right out of the box for me.

    4. AM I only the one who needs to size down for JCrew shoes? I buy 7.5 in most shoes and a 7 in JCrew.

      Delete
    5. No, pathos, i have that same experience as well. I'm normally a 6.5 in just about every shoe I've ever bought, but with JC Dulcis and Gemmas, I take a size 6. (I do take a 6.5 in the Cece.)

    6. I always take a size 8 in J.Crew but I have bought 8.5 in the harper (pointed toe) and put a half insole in them. I take 8 in sloan and gemma and Kiki. I need to ask, pointed toe or round toe? I sort of felt like the pointed toe was more in fashion but now I am confused since the Kiki is back.

    7. I bought my regular size in the tassel and suede Sloan d'orsay flats and I wish I had sized down 1/2 size. They stretched quite and bit and now are big on me. My foot is very narrow if that helps.

    8. @jan, Funny, I LOVED the Hayes sandal! So much that I wanted black as well as the metallic (which is really just a sand suede with a slight metallic finish).

I'm so tempted to get the Harper's but Anne said they were terribly uncomfortable on her. Myself, I'm mostly a 9 but couldn't fit into the Gemma flats I tried at all. In some of the Elsies I'm an 8.5 (the d'orsay) and in the regular ones I took a 9 but do put a heel pad in my smaller foot.

    9. Anna Maria, I took my usual size 9 in the dulcis although many sized down half a size I couldn't because they were def too tight across the toes. My usual size 9 is a touch long but fits fine. My feet are a little bit wide I guess.

@SuzHas - that is too funny because I love mine for looks but the first time I wore them out to pick up food I could barely walk back to my car and ended up with horrible blisters, the worst I've ever had. I loved the style though.

    10. Crazy! I wore them a lot. Where did you get a blister? By the toe or heel?

    1. Those jean skirts are really hard to wear, if memory serves right. They would fit in the waist and hips but once you get walking, the entire skirt would start traveling up, waist band well above belly-button. Maybe having a really deep slit in the front helps with walking legs. But I don't think they are easy to walk in.

    2. Omg, yes, I'm not loving that skirt. I think the a more modest length is something a lot of people have asked for though.

  15. Anna Maria~in the Dulci kitten heels I size down a half size from my usual 7 to a 6.5. I also do this with the Gemma flat. On the other hand, I stick with my true size in the Sloan and the Cece. Hope this helps.

  19. I received both the Factory Denim Trouser and Men's Cable V-Neck Sweater today. I reviewed them in this post. The Denim Trouser is exactly what I've been looking for in a dressy, non-skinny jean. The one off-putting thing was the awful chemical smell on both items. They may need to be washed twice, instead of once, before I wear them.
