"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Irked that the leopard Tippi is now excluded from promo. I predict it will be price-hiked $20 by the end of the week. : /

    1. That's annoying, and now I'm really glad I ordered it yesterday. Do you think they look at how fast things are selling and decide to drop fast-selling items from the promotion?

    2. Wow, that's crazy! Good thing I ordered it yesterday. I don't even know if I'll like it. I'm trying to dress outside my comfort zone. Just worried about how it would look on me, and not too much like a Mob boss' wife. Hehe...

  2. I placed an order 10 days ago and all but one item shipped immediately. The item that did not ship is showing as in stock (not even with the dreaded Only a Few Left warning). I emailed CS and asked what the hold up is on that one item since everything else shipped and it appears to be in stock. They told me that it was released for shipping. Of course, that was two days ago and I still have not received a shipping notification...so frustrating.

I understand that they fulfill orders from store inventory, but it shouldn't take 5-6 extra days for the stores to ship something.

    1. I hear you, Violet, that is really annoying (& puzzling as to why it's taking so long.) Agree that it shouldn't take as long for stores to ship something.

I had a store-fulfillment issue with a recent order as well. Had an order for two items, a Tippi and a belt. When the order arrived, only the Tippi was included, still bearing its security tag! Had to take it to a store for removal. The belt was completely left out of the order, even tho it was listed as shipped within the same order. Customer service has promised to expedite a new one and luckily the item hadn't sold out, but eek! Messy messy.

    2. I do most of my shopping online and usually when items ship directly from store they tend to ship out sooner rather than later so this too confuses me?! I just believe J Crew is VERY laxed with shipping period, for some reason.

  3. Placed my last order Oct. 12, tracking info says I should have it by the 23rd. (!) I've resigned myself to the fact they have the slowest free shipping in the biz. Even when I get the free ship option from amazon or the gap it arrives faster than JC.

    2. It's so sad too because I remember when J.Crew had the fastest shipping ever. I would order something and have it within 2 business days every time.

    3. Yep! Ridiculous. I live an hour from the warehouse & it's been taking almost 10 days for my stuff to ship FROM THE WAREHOUSE. Like, come on. I could drive over there & pick it up faster than it's taking to ship!

    4. Violet - yes, I remember that too! I used to always get my J Crew orders about 2 days after order was placed! However I was paying a lot more for shipping back then (anyone remember how crazy expensive their sliding scale shipping used to be?). I know I shouldn't complain when it's free shipping, but other companies use UPS surepost and seem to get it here faster. I think part of the problem may be, as Taylor said, it is just taking things a long time to even leave the warehouse.

    5. I am surprised, my last order (before the one I placed this morning) shipped crazy fast. Like I ordered in the afternoon (not even the morning) and I had it the day after. It was so fast that I thought that maybe it had shipped from the store down the street and they had it sent by messenger instead of UPS, lol. Made well shipping has improved too in my case.

    6. Ema, I get my orders quickly, too. They usually ship the day after I order and arrive 2 to 3 days later. I never have the week+ to receive items. I'm in MD. Sounds like it depends on where you are. But that's no excuse. When those same people are getting items from other companies in just a few days, it seems like JC should be able to do the same. They've always been behind the most current technologies and their shipping practices are probably no different. :P

    8. I live in California and since I've been shopping with them it takes about a 2 week cycle from purchase, however I believe the concern is with the time it takes to leave the warehouse! From the time I purchase it takes 3-4 days before I get a ship confirmation which is absurd! Then another week for actual travel time. Waiting for an arrival today for something purchased 2 weeks ago!

    9. I wonder what it is. I placed another order on Wednesday and I got a "partial" delivery today (aka, two days after). I understand the transit time for those who are not on the East Coast but the shipping time frame (time between the order placed and when it leaves the warehouse) has been super fast for me

    10. For me it doesn't really matter when I get a shipping confirmation, because they don't actually have the item ready for pick up until the very last moment. I've even checked my tracking and it's says something to the effect of, item wasn't transferred to UPS by expected time, could cause delays. UPS Surepost is actually pretty fast. It usually only takes 3 business days to get to me in OR once they receive the package. JCrew just does not care about how quickly they get packages ready. VS has your item shipped out at almost the same time you receive your shipping notification, whether your shipping is free or not.

  4. I am totally over J Crew and their shipping practices. I have placed orders with multiple other companies over the weekend. I already received shipping notices, some are free shipping, some are ship to store also free. I really don't know how J Crew can justify this nonsense. Their product is not that good and certainly not worth the wait.

  6. I literally can not have a silk garment sent to me by JCrew in good condition unless I ask for it be looked over before being shipped. I got this from a customer service rep who offered to do this once when I got two silk shirts in a row with damage. Now I have preemptively ask to avoid having it exchanged.

I don't get it. Is quality control and inspection not a standard part of shipping?
