J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. BWAHAHAHAHA what on earth is happening? I can't find that hideous muppet they murdered to make into a skirt separately but the price of the hoodie is hilarious enough by itself. https://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/outerwear/PRDOVR~E3360/E3360.jsp

    1. Oh, here it is, E2943. I was hoping it would also be $1K so I could laugh even more.

    2. Also loving the tiger bathingsuit. Sorry, I'll stop now.

  2. Love love love the coats and all the pretty colors! J. Crew has hit it out of the park with their outerwear, A-line skirts with the bows, and shoes. It's been a very long time since I made an order this big! Excited!!!

    1. Of course, it's when I no longer need coats.

  3. The new arrivals are okay, nothing I need to have even at 25% off. I did like the Flutter Mini in Double Serge Wool as I have been wanting a skirt like that but not in poly or ponte fabric. Interesting to note that I went to look at the Jackie in cotton to see if there were any new colors and all of the reviews from a few weeks ago that came in early fall and complained about the breaking buttons, now gone. All of the comments were wiped.

    1. Mine was one of those reviews and yup, gone.

Way to be authentic and transparent with your customers, J. Crew.

    2. I noticed all the comments were gone re: the "new" not improved merino v-neck cardigan that ripped the changed style to shreds. Hm...

    3. I think there might be a glitch with the comments, last night I was reading the reviews about the toothpick in flint (which were all or almost all great/high rated) and all of a sudden they were gone. HTH

    4. You can see the number of stars an item has if you click on the "quick shop" button, but when you go into the item page to read the reviews there aren't any. Also, next to Overall Fit on the item page it has the slider bar and says "based on x user reviews" but if you click on the link to the reviews again, nothing shows up.

Who knows, it's probably a website glitch (we've all seen them before at JC!), but if they've decided to scrub the reviews from their site that would be really disappointing.

  4. Why so many dropped shoulders? At least two sweaters I clicked on are ruined by them. Colors are pretty, though. Overall, it's kind of a snooze.

  5. The sweater and outerwear colors are nice. A lot of flannels. I was really hoping for a few holiday-ish tartan plaid button downs (non-flannel) but no luck there. I think my wallet is pretty safe this time around.

    1. My wallet is safe, but I did some damage last rollout, which was much better, IMO. Windowpane full length pants, fleecy jacket (the one with the dropped shoulders, yes -- despite my above post -- I love it, though) and the collarless trench coat. This time, nothing even made it to my wish list.

    2. Did you post a review of the windowpane pant? If not what are your thoughts about sizing? It is on my wish list!

    3. I posted a review here, I think. I got the petite, so I can't comment on regular sizing. The petite are still pretty long -- I'm 5'3" and I can wear them with high heels. They do run small, though. I can wear a 2 in most J.Crew pants (and have some 0) and I had to send the P2 back for a P4, which is still not loose like the photo on the website.

The pants are fully lined, and really nice. The wool is not the most lux in the world, but it's not bad. There's a small polyester content, too, and despite my hating polyester, I'm hoping the small amount keeps the pants from pilling, or something. I love the style, and I'm happy to have a full length, non slim pant back in my work wardrobe.

  6. Colors are nice... thinking about the Campbell trouser in that gorgeous pink (love that shade paired with burgundy and grey!) but it's a pass on everything else.

  7. I would have purchased the overlapped dress if it had not been poly. I also wish it had pockets, but the pockets don't kill the deal like poly does. Very sad they made the culottes in double serge wool. That is far too heavy a fabric for a pant that should move. It doesn't say they're lined so they probably aren't. The merino sweater dress is right up my alley. Living in a hot climate, my limited wear time doesn't justify the purchase or it would be in my cart. The beautiful clover print top is silk but for reasons that mystify me the dress is poly. Ugh. The collection 2 in 1 dress is spectacular, provided the top part is a decent fabric. Not sure about that one. I think the a line midi in petal confetti is gorgeous and I'm not even a print person. Poly though, so I'm not buying it. Honestly, do these designers every try wearing poly lined with poly? In winter it's a complete static cling festival, in warmer weather it's like being mummified. The a line in italian wool blend (there's that poly again) was calling to me. From the pictures it looks very stiff and like it has no movement at all. I'll be waiting on reviews on that one. The Elsie snakeskin would fit into my wardrobe. I don't wear 4" heels though. The Roxie t-strap are even higher sadly.

All in all there are things to like in this roll out. Unfortunately the fabrics kill it for me on many items. No order today.

    1. Ooo yes, the merino sweater dress is gorgeous in both colors. It looks quite low cut and adding a cami underneath would just ruin the look, IMO. Unless one is quite small busted, I'm afraid it won't work on a lot of people. And the Collection 2 in 1 dress is beautiful, too.

I can't hate on J Crew for using poly, though. It seems like even mid-range designers (like Tory Burch and Kate Spade) use it and their prices are much higher. Kate Spade has a pretty floral dress that is polyester and polyamide for $448. Another KS dress is $1000 and although it is a unique design and might have a great fit, it's mostly poly with a poly lining. I've been looking for some chunkier knit sweaters this year and even those priced $200-$300 are mostly synthetic. Are textile prices just really high these days for natural fabrics?

    2. With regard to the overlapped dress -- on the model, it has a pretty substantial v in the back, but in the other photos, the back of the neckline appears to come all the way up and it's just a regular back. I wonder what the actual dress looks like.

    3. Amy D-- my family are cotton growers and cotton is 63 cents/ lb, hasn't been this cheap since 2008. Poly prices are based off of crude oil prices, since it's derived from oil.

  8. Not very impressed with this rollout. Maybe Nov. will be better? Was hoping for some chunky sweaters. I like the Collection Preston donegal wool pants in pink (they're lined!), but as a SAHM, I wouldn't wear them enough. I also like the Turner pant in wool in the gray color. The Campbell blazer in blue herringbone is really pretty. Of course, I love several shoes: the caged bow flats in snakeskin (really love these!), the leopard bow gladiator flats (been wanting to replace my leopard flats), and the Collins tortoiseshell loafers. Of course, everything I like except the Turner pants is excluded from the promo. I'm tempted to buy the snakeskin flats bc I think they'll sell out. :P

  9. I have a review of the Regent Topcoat here. I really love this coat! Although I wanted a black coat, I also really like the bright cobalt blue coat they just released.

As far as new arrivals go, I love the full length pant in bi-stretch wool in aubergine. I'm not really a pants person, but I want to try those...to bad they are backordered in my size until Nov.

    1. Thanks for reviewing this, Amy. I just ordered the camel color in petite. You mentioned it that it might pill in time..material is a double serge wool (like the No.2 pencil skirt), I highly doubt that it would pill, since I have not heard reviews of the skirt pilling. I hope not. :-)

I've been waiting for J.Crew to make a classic topcoat in a camel color. I wish it wasn't the Regent collar though.

    3. The regent collar has kind of grown on me. It does get a bit scratchy after awhile, though.

Good point about the double serge pencil skirts not pilling; I always get a little paranoid about pills whenever I buy something new.

Hope the camel version works out for you!

  10. Has anyone purchased the Shrunken Turtleneck (which apparently is part of the Tilly line)? I ordered the green colorway in two sizes before they sold out. I'm hoping one works out, but worried it'll have the boxy Tilly-ness that won't work with my figure

  11. I've been looking for a plaid buttondown in feminine colors and bit today on the gemstone plaid shrunken boy shirt. I hope the colors are true to life; so many times the model shot has great vibrant colors and the actual piece is dull, making it more masculine.

  12. Someone recommended the Factory long-sleeved striped boatneck tee a few weeks ago (item B8722), and I ordered it based on their glowing review. Now that I have it and have worn it, I have to second them. It's a great shirt, a nice heavy-weight cotton -- it's not see-through. I tried it on with a black lace bra on and couldn't see it through the fabric. The stripes are woven into the fabric instead of stenciled on, and it is indeed a bit reminiscent of Saint James in terms of fit and the fabric weight. <3 it.

Also I love that they brought back dark poppy with some of the new arrivals. That is one of my favorite reds ever. I'm not thrilled that the sweaters in this color are all wool/nylon/cashmere....wish the nylon wasn't there. But I'm going to take my chances with the promo since I love this red so much and order the classic V-neck cardigan.

  13. Just received the stadium-cloth cocoon coat in black today and love love love it! I was looking for a warm coat to wear outside of suits and this fits the bill. The new side pockets instead of flap pockets also make it look more sleek and less casual. I got the size 2p and the fit, overall length and sleeve length are perfect on my 5'3", 125lbs frame.
