JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hi all, to prepare for Halloween I've put together some styling/costume ideas with a chambray shirt in this post.

    1. Oh, just love these! Can I just take Ryan Gosling _as_ my Canadian tuxedo? Poor Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears will _never_ live down that matching denim moment. And Marty McFly . . . "Why is he wearing a life preserver?"

    3. Great post! I need a quick costume and might do cowboy or Rosie. Umm...why do I own a colorblock chambray jacket like Justin's? lol

  3. Hi JCAs
Can anyone tell me if the Excursion Vest fits true to size? For example I am a 4-6 in tops/blouses at j.crew. Should I get a small or a medium? Would love to hear peoples experiences. Thanks! :-)

    1. I go with the smaller of my two sizes and find they fit great. HTH!

    2. Hi Sunny,

The Excursion Vest fits me TTS. I wear a Small and and I take a 4/6 in J.Crew tops, blouses, and sweaters. Considering the vest does run wide, a Medium would be far too big as the Small is already generously sized.

I actually went in the opposite direction when trying to determine my size. Online reviews had me believing I needed an X-Small. Time and time again, I read the same thing: The vest runs wide/large. SIZE DOWN!! Turns out, the smaller size was visually more slimming (it is a puffer vest, after all), but it was ill-fitting in the waist and under the arms. I wasn’t able to layer underneath (I live in a cold climate - something to consider) and it was uncomfortable when zipped. With the Small, I can fit layers or a sweatshirt underneath comfortably. The overall fit and length are more flattering and much, much more comfortable! I can deal with slightly exaggerated arm holes for the overall improved fit and function.

      Hope this help!

  4. I forgot to post this earlier. Text reviews on Gigi's Gone Shopping of 9 items. Most are final sale. If you've already visited the post, I added a review of the collection seaside sequin pants. The white ones.
