Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the HOLIDAY sale, or to see some new WINTER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Hi Fellow JCAs,
Does anyone know if the Little Edie in pecan got a markdown? So many colors did and this one isn't on the website any more.... there is one I have my eye one but the store is notorious for not marking stuff down...

    1. I didn't see it marked down in the stores, but you could ask to get the 25% (or 30%) discount in stores as well.

    2. Thank you! I was hoping it would be on sale and I could get the 30% off sale which is still being offered at my store... I have the gray one and it was $119 on sale (and I bought it during a % off)... I really love it and would love the pecan, at a similar price!

  2. Hi JCAs,
Has anybody seen the Lady Jacket in Berry Pink, or even in Charcoal Heather in a size 00 at your b&m? I just received my 2nd damaged one. Any help appreciated!

    2. Call CS and explain the problem. They should be able to help you coordinate a charge-send from a store.

  3. I have to buy a couple of birthday presents, so I will be looking at J.Crew this weekend. I'm hoping my store will have 30% off sale...which, thanks to Gigi, I now know my store did not get the memo, hah.

Off topic, but I know there's a JCA reader who often posts J.Crew window displays on her blog. Does anyone know what the blog is? I can't remember for the life of me, and I enjoy looking at the way different stores style their mannequins!

    1. Hi Phoebe - that would be Slastena's blog. It's called 'About All and Nothing at All', and the window displays can be seen here on it.

  4. I may go because I have a return. I find that stores still offer better deals especially when you can stack 30% off sale with 30% off total purchase. I the meantime I posted HERE about my attempts to style the red pencil skirt that I bought on my last visit.

    1. Looks lovely on you! I am wearing the same skirt today :) And I too will be hitting the stores this weekend with a couple of small returns. I think I've already plucked everything I wanted from the current sale selections but will definitely take a look given the current promos.

    2. ajc, were you able to stack the 30-off sale with the 30 percent off total purchase somewhere?! If so, do you mind telling me which JC store? I wanted to buy a cashmere boyfriend sweater that was on sale, and I asked my VPS, just today, if I could stack the promos. He said no!!

      Delete
    3. I bought that skirt too because it's such a gorgeous red -- also because I own that skirt in camel and bright blue and love how it fits. Love how you put the gray tights and brown boots with it!

  5. OT (sorry, not sure where to post this) I was just reading this morning's J.Crew email about Gayle Spannaus. Before I could finish asking myself, "why does J.Crew keep trying to drill the names of their higher-ups into our heads so as to magically transform them into celebrities?", I got to Gayle's so-called quotable quote: "Just add an orangey-red lip..." Surely we haven't seen that one before. Shall I be a pioneer of fashion and add some big round Jenna glasses to complete the look? At least I got my morning chuckle ;)

    1. and I got mine from your post. That would be my definition of a D-list celebrity: an untalented stylist with an overpaid PR guy.

      Delete
    2. Also, note that Gayle had to suggest a pair of capri pants as holiday party attire, probably because J.Crew has no party dress offerings this year...

      Delete
    3. but "orangey-red lips" look so good on everyone!! Not!

      Delete
    4. Grande, very true. The only party dress offerings are $$$ collection pieces or boring bridesmaids dresses people will assume you are recycling from wearing in someone else's wedding.

  6. just curious, are the stores accepting the 30% cardmemeber code? I am hearing the store is offering 30% on final sales and just curious, if they are allowing to stack the 30% cardmemember code.
I believe the email said it was online only offer.
    Thanks in advance!

  7. How much is the excursion vest in store??

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yep, I'll be there to return the Macalister wedges I got this week in one of the tiered promos. Love, love, love them, but they squeak like crazy with tights, and furthermore they rub the backs of my heel/tendon area. I've been wearing them around my apartment for a few days but just don't think I could last long enough in them to make it worth it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I actually find J. Crew shoes to squeak a lot in general...has anyone else noticed that??

      Delete
    2. Yes! My Pia calf hair pumps embarrass me every time I wear them around the office - you can hear me coming from the other side of the building! Funnily enough only one of them squeaks and I've tried various inserts but they make the shoes too tight around my toes. I've yet to find a solution so I'm still squeaking around in them ;) I got luckier with the Everlys and the Mona mary janes - the former are quite comfortable and the latter are not but at least they're quiet.

      Delete
    3. Okay, at least I'm not the only one squeaking around my office! Does anyone have any tips for how to fix this? It even happens when I'm wearing tights!

  9. I have a question about price discrepancy among stores. I have a popover peacoat on hold at 2 stores, one which is 5 min away and the other one an hour away. The one closest to me says the coat is $119 but the other says it's $79. Will the closer store honor the lower price?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. they should be willing to do it if they can call the other store where it's cheaper to verify the price. but you might want to call in advance to check before going.

      Delete
    2. just ask them to do a price check. they can look it up on the computer and see the price it is in store and online. i remember i used to order things online from the red phone because they werent available in store, and the manager would ALWAYS check the in store price (as it was usually lower) and jcrew.com would match the store price.

more than likely they just forgot to do the latest markdown on it. there usually isnt much of a price discrepancy between stores.

      Delete
    3. Thanks ladies for your answers. I went and picked up the coat and it was $79.99 plus it had additional 30% and the girl gave me my student discount of 15% so with tax the total was $51! I can't believe it I've wanted to popover peacoat since I saw it in the catalog but it was $298!

  10. Grande, I want to second the disappointment in J.Crew's lack of holiday party dresses. The Dublin city mini is the closest thing I could find this year, and though I love the skirt, it's no replacement for great party dresses.

Speaking of the Dublin city mini,I was actually on the fence about tracking it down after it mostly sold out online, however once I saw Sarah of "Classy Girls Wear Pearls" wearing it on her visit the Christmas Tree Farm I was on the phone with WWFIFY a few minutes later. I'm such a sucker.

  15. OT and total vent so please remove if inappropriate, Alexis but I just had to share. A phone VPS just asked me if there is any particular reason why I would like the very obvious plaid pattern to match at the seams of my garment (which I just received for the second and can't go to the store fast enough). She then commented on how many orders I have returned recently.

    2. Hopefully she's just doing some research to report back to management (the way lululemon associates do) and maybe it just came across as snarky.

      Delete
    3. Wow, it's a good thing I don't have a VPS because I'd be getting a lot of comments about the frequency of my returns.

      Delete
    4. What an off-putting comment! I hope this particular VPS was just having a bad day because I'd hate to think the company would employ so-called personal stylists who'd rather dissuade customers from making returns by way of intimidation than focus on the reasons why certain items keep coming back to them. I think they would find that quality control has a lot to do with it. (This is assuming the phone VPS wasn't making a commission off your purchases, which would lead me to another conclusion entirely.)

      Delete
    5. She wasn't, Dara. She just happened to be "on duty" on the VPS number. Every. Single. Purchase. for the last 3 weeks has had a quality problem. Some I've reordered only to find it's systematic. Oh well, more $ for my bank account. My husband should be happy. But really, good customer service seems to be a dying breed!

      Delete
  16. I hope so, teeny84. But she also suggested I return the item to a store to "save on return shipping fees" for this and the other 5 defective items I have in a box waiting to go back to the store. I am sad, because I feel like J Crew is failing me and all the other JCAs.

  23. OT

First, it seems that the site updates every day now around 6AM and the stock is suddenly replenished. I guess you all know this, but i'm new and didn't and find it fascinating. It seems to me that there are a handful of people who get up early just to see what new pieces have popped back early in the morning. Maybe one day I will get the damned necklace I want.

Second, yesterday I went to the Lulu Frost sample sale. So interesting. Ms. Frost (not her true name) was there. An intense, lovely, artistic personality--she was dressed head to toe in J crew. Very specifically: a green number two pencil skirt (I think from FActory) and that wildly bright floral button down FActory shirt. She was wearing a handmade necklace over the top of the blouse.

This is where--to me--it gets interesting. The handmade piece is composed of found jewelry from different periods--bakelite, Victorian, etc. The general shape was an inverted triangle. She said she likes to button up her shirt and then wear her necklace over the shirt--instead of against the skin, which is how we usually wear jewelry.

You'll have noted in the Style catalogues that this is how many of the models dress--with the jewelry over the shirt. Also, the much maligned tangerine petal thing (which I love, but which many hated) is in the inverted triangle shape.

I can't help but wonder how much of the jewelry aesthetic is influenced by Ms. Frost. Her sample sale was fascinating--fashion insiders, like this scrawny girl in a green velvet dress with a black velvet turban--and businessmen waving to "Lisa" (as Lulu is known) and talking about parties and people they all know in common.

The sample sale was in their workspace--techno/ethnic music pumping while girls bent over trays of beads, assembling meticulous designs.

Ms. Frost is an artist. Obsessive artist. I can completely see why NY fashionistas--and we know that JCrew is influenced that the fashionistas--love her. The jewelry has a strong point of view. And I could just see how the Frost pieces and the styling come out of what was going on in that workshop. It makes me think that JCrew in fact takes these kinds of influences and then tries to find a way to make them more mass market, more accessible, but still appealing to a non green velvet dress and black velvet turban wearing person.

Did I mention how nice Ms. Frost was? Did I mention that she's not even 30 years old? Amazing.

    1. Thank you for your observations. Interesting. I keep envisioning the party scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's---"Daaaaarrrling Air kiss, air kiss, this necklace is TO. Die. For. Really. Just kill me."

      Delete
    2. You know, it was and wasn't like that. I think that Lulu is an artist. So she had this very intense and focused energy about her, and this hope that you "got" her pieces (the non Jcrew ones are much more out there, but to my eye, just incredible).

One thing I've learned about fashion people, is that the really intense ones are a kind of artist. They love the irregular, the eccentric, the "beauty in what is ugly" principle. Miucia Prada, for example, believes in that, as did Schiaparelli (sp?). They made a big deal out of this in the Met exhibit comparing the two women. On the surface, you think that fashion is shallow, but it's also driven by this desire to make the world more attractive.

JCrew is interesting because it is "mass market," but it is also trying to speak to the fashion world, which is critically demanding and wants clothing to be about something more than just surface prettiness.

      Anyway, I'm rambling.....

      Delete
    3. It sounds like she just knows the right people. I don't find her jewelry all that interesting personally.

  28. It seems like the B&Ms always honor online sale prices, but does it also work the other way around? Does jcrew.com match in-store prices?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. B&Ms don't always honor the online sale prices. If an email promo says online only, my store won't honor it. I've put a full price item back on the shelf and gone home to order it online because of this, it was ridiculous. And companies worry about losing brick-and-mortar stores to online shopping? When a pricey item is 30% less online, I'm going to order it online, but it's the same company so I don't see the point, other than getting customers who may not know about the online promo to buy the items full price in-store.

      Delete
    2. I have been successful getting the online store to match B&M prices only when I call from the store.

      Delete
    3. I complained to customer service about this and was told by one of the higher ups that is always up to the store manager whether or not they will honor an online price. She wasn't necessarily talking about general promos that are offered online, such as spend $150 get 25% off, but rather price discrepencies, such as a sweater is on sale online but not in store or on promo, etc.
