Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Hi. I have some Ann Taylor, Old Navy, and Target reviews on my new blog at http://beachchicstyle.blogspot.com. Have a great day!

  2. Up to 40% off sale items at Talbots today. If you buy one thing, it's 20% off, 2 is 25%, 3 is 30% and 4 items you get 40% off. They have some really cute shoes on sale. I tried the suede wedges (the 3.5" heel ones) in black and for $41~, they are so worth it. Very comfy and TTS!

  3. Kate Spade is having a one day sale. Does anyone know how the sizes run? I'm liking a dress and am not sure what size.

    1. mini: I find Kate Spade sizing to be the same as J.Crew. I wear a 0/2 at J.Crew and the same at Kate Spade.

  6. Talbots also has ~15 Clearance Stores with prior season's retail items at deep discounts. Selection varies and there is zero ambiance - the sort of place that is worth a stop if you are in the area but is not worth a special trip. On Monday in Park Ridge (Chicago) I found pointed toe patent flats for $25 and a silk blouse for $10. There were items currently in the online sale section at about 50% less. It's also the only place I've ever found Talbots elusive 0P.

  7. For those with travel plans that include NYC or London - we are in the midst of sample sale season. While some sales (Christian Loutboutin) are by invitation only, most are open to all and quite manageable, particularly towards the end of the sale. The Theory sale starts today in NY. Pringle and Orla Kiely are this week in London. Between the 2 cities there are probably 50 sales... something for everyone. The dedicated city sale blogs like the Racked will have a list plus reports on selection and pricing. The fall round starts in November.

A quick example from last month: I stopped in at the Petit Bateau sale - all items were 3 for $20. 20 minutes and $100 later I had 15 items worth over $1000. And I know that my Petit Bateau T shirts will not develop holes within the first week. They also had a line of reversibles: a jacket that reverses from stripe to solid; a top from stripe to polka dot. It would be great if a US mall retailer picked up the idea

  8. I just received some items from the Land's End Canvas stock room sale and love them! So cute at really great prices too.

First, the patterned tank in the anchor print -- I die, it's so cute. $12! There's a navy/white dot and cream/rust dot one as well. The XS fit me nicely (I wear a 2-4 in JC blouses, small in perfect-fit tanks).

The striped maxi dress is really. The rust/tan one is down to $25 (from $100, which was high for them). I got an XS and that was right (what I wear in JC knit dresses). It was probably to tops of my feet and I'm 5'5", so might not be for taller ladies.

The short-sleeve oxford shirt with little anchor emblem (anchor obsessed apparently) is super cute too. It has a buttoned-down peter pan collar. I went with a 4, my JC perfect shirt size. $12.

Finally, the patterened pinktuck shell in the floral. Very pretty, antique-looking top. Note the yellowish tones that the reviewers spoke of (which I like). I went with a 2 and am glad I did, as it would have been too tent-y any bigger. $20.

    1. I saw your comment and rushed to Lands End Canvas because of the short sleeved white oxford shirt. I'm always looking for white short sleeved shirts and they are not so easy to find. Sadly they are all sold out. Clearly I need to pay more attention to Lands End Canvas.

  9. Sort of off topic, but EBates has 13% cash back on a bunch of stores today - including Nordstrom!

  10. Club Monaco has just gone online with their official online shopping site- they are a lot like J Crew - amazing designs for men and women. Enjoy!
