J.Crew of Season's Past: {a look in the closet}

It's that time again, to take a look at an image of J.Crew pieces from seasons past! As caribbelle (in this post) so beautifully termed, "ye olde j crew of yore".

This post features the Cotton Anchor Skirt (item 84459; $118.00) from 2007. The navy cotton skirt has the most amazing nautical twist thanks to the white over-sized anchor on the front. What could make it better? It has pockets!

J.Crew is all about anchors this season with its Sequin Anchor Tank, Scoopneck Blouse in Anchors Aweigh print, Anchors Aweigh Pant, and the Maritime Anchor Dress. So this skirt would fit in with the current offerings quite nicely.

What are your thoughts on the look(s)/item(s) from the past? Do you find the look(s)/item(s) classic or do you think they are dated?

  1. I love the whole nautical trend, well lifestyle really, since I grew up on a tropical island but I feel like I sort of grew out of the literal interpretations of the style. I prefer to stick with the stripes and nautical colors but you are right Alexis, this skirt is right on trend this season and I don't think it looks dated, just a little young.

    1. Well said. I love the skirt too, as well as the Bahamas map one that I long regretted not buying, but I don't think I could pull off either now.

      I think you either have to be younger, a mom, or be able to dress it down and wear it ironically (Sartorialist style).

    1. Interesting article. Since Jenna can name many of the jc blogs, one would imagine that she reads them from time to time.
      I wonder if she reads this one.
      Jenna, are you there?

      BTW, love the skirt.

  3. I have that skirt! It is back home in Texas, but I think it is time to have it shipped up to New England.

  4. L-O-V-E this skirt! I hunted for it on eBay for years. Years. In fact, it's on my blog as the OOTD today here! I have the white shirt dress too, and am just waiting for the perrfect oppertunity to wear it.

  5. one of my favorites, even if it is a tad long on me.
    if they made it today, they'd probably ruin it with sequins, chiffon and/or a frayed hem. :P

  7. I'd like to know how to find what some of my older pieces are called? Did J Crew always name their items?

  9. I like how the print avoids drawing attention to the tummy area. Fuller skirts and nautical prints will never go completely out of style. Wish they would re-release this skirt, possibly in a different color. Couldn't you see it in a bright emerald?

    :) Jen
