J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. It's supposedly being re-released this summer according to customer service. who knows why they did that . . .

    2. Weird - I saw a dozen of them in our store last week. (?)

    3. Maybe they are going to increase the price mid season like they did the toothpick jeans and a couple other items recently : ( Factory store does have a version of this jacket in the mossy green color. I'm prob going there fri and can let you know the price and try and compare to my jkt which is the retail version.

    1. The first top that ajc tried on is a recreation of the Confetti Bateau Top from 2007 (if I remember correctly), except the zipper wasn't exposed on the original version.

  6. Has anyone seen or tried the Neon tweed short-sleeve jacket? As hesitant as I am to bite until it goes on the inevitable sale list, I definitely don't want to buy until someone has seen it. It's a collection item, my wee little store won't get it. Any information much appreciated.

    1. Hi Desert Flower. I saw it last weekend. I did not try it on because it is not something I would ever buy, but I thought it was very pretty. Not blindingly neon, at all, like some items can be.

    2. Hi Desert Flower I tried the jacket on in the weekend. It is lovely and not as neon as it's name would suggest. I'm usually a 0 or occasionally a 2 in jackets. I tried on the 0 but if I was going to purchase would size up to the 2 as the 0 felt a little short. Going to wait for sale on this one but only because I live in the Caribbean and there isn't much need for jackets of any kind!

  7. I bought and love the Linen Tessa top in red. I figured it would probably sell out in the red color before it goes on sale. I got it in a sz. 10 which is the smaller of my top sizes. I'm usually between and 10 and12 in JC tops. I really love it casual w/rolled up boyfriend jeans. But could be nicely dressed up. Recommend.

I am on the fence about the Gondola stripe top that I picked up on sale. What do you all think? I think if I"m waffling, it should go back, but it's really a nice top. I also got and am probably returning the linen elastic waist skirt. I got a size 10 and it's really cute and fits great, but I have no idea how to style it w/that ruffle waist. T-shirts cling to it and it's unflattering and if I have a top that floats over it, I feel like it adds bulk in my waist/stomach - an area I cannot afford to add bulk to. So, I think it's going back. I tried on and love the anchor sweatshirt. It's really cute, and I doubt it will make it to sale, but I just can't see spending $80 on a sweatshirt. *shaking head no*

    1. I love the Tessa top. I like the gondola stripe top. There are so many stripes out there, but this pattern is a little different w/the red mixed in there. Good for 4th of July, too, but doesn't scream "it's the 4th." If you're not feeling it, return it. It'll go unworn. Some things are better admired from afar than taking up closet real estate. Iron on an anchor patch onto a sweatshirt. Voila! lol

  8. Scatter dot dress: Already on sale in store for $89.99. Size down in this one. A 4 fit me perfectly, and I have been wearing a 6 dress size for a while now, and I have a larger chest. It is really cute, but prone to static and shows wrinkles. It hits me where it hits the model and I am about 5'9".

Foulard cafe capris - majorly gaped in the back of waist and too tapered. I prefer the "classic cafe capri" to this new version.

I bought the foulard print maxi dress (which I can't seem to find online) instead which is adorable and TTS. It made my waist look tiny which it most certainly is not.

  9. One more... is it just me, or does the chambray top run super small? I had to size up to a 10 for it to fit around my chest. Geez! It is super cute, though. I normally wear a 6 in that type of top. There was no 6 to try, so I first tried the 8 and could barely get it on and off. Yikes.

    1. Agreed. I saw it on sale in my B&M in an 8 (the larger of my two usual sizes) and thought "yippee"! Then I tried it on and couldn't move my arms. Managed to snag a 10 this weekend online, hopefully it fits.

  10. How is the Tiered Dot tank running - TTS or size down?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I tried on the Tiered dotted tank on yesterday in my store in Faded Jade and bought it. The Tank seemed to be true to size. I think this tank is just like the tiered lace tank they had out this last winter that came in ivory and black color or close to it!

  13. i literally just got the Lilibeth patent sandals delivered to my office. bought the casablanca blue color. fits TTS to a hair narrow. wondering if anyone else has these and if they stretch at all... for me anyway, i can see the fit getting a little annoying if they don't break in well.

  14. I stopped by the store this weekend and tried on a few items including the very bright plaid boucle tweed jacket, silk foulard print capris, lace placket tee and the safari cat shorts.

  15. Anyone try or buy the Hologram Tweed jacket? That sold out in hours on Thursday.

  16. Thanks JcrewJD and Stuckinparadise. Sounds like I should give the jacket a try. I was worried about the word neon, but it sounds like its not over the top bright. Now I just need a sale or a code!

  17. Cha cha dress in Modern Red: This fit me perfectly in my usual size 4 and I love the color, but I returned it because the linen is so heavy/thick and the dress felt like too much with the heavy peplum. It's a perfect San Francisco foggy summer dress, though, since it's nice and thick! There's an odd opening in the peplum for access to the side zipper - at first I thought it was a pocket (I love pockets in dresses), but it's not, just an opening.

  18. A review of the Altuzarra Sabrina dress and Madewell's Summertime Tank dress on my blog HERE.

To sum it up, the Sabrina dress had a defective zipper so I couldn't do it up all the way whether it was on or off. In my usual size 8 the top fit (just) OK but the bottom was too large.

The Summertime Tank dress is scandalously short.

  19. Can anyone advise if you can still get free shipping by using the red phone? I would like to order the petite Minnie pants but don't want to pay $9 shipping on such a small order. Thanks!

  20. I tried the Cha Cha dress in store to wear to a few summer parties and I loved it. It runs TTS, and at 5'5" it hit my right at the knee. I have a curvy figure and the cut was flattering. The linen is heavy, which is perfect for my climate. Unfortunately, neither color works for me. The red is too orange for my coloring. I liked the dress so much, I ordered the white but it felt very bridal.

  21. Anyone try the Rainy day bow ballet flats? Commuter and I think they might come in handy for those rainy but no quite rain boot days. I'd love to hear from someone who has them. Thanks. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was also interested in them for the same reason, what's cute to wear when it's raining in the city during warmer months?? But after trying them on in the store, I felt that the sides were too low (esp on my wider feet) and water would get into them while I walked. They also have small holes on either side, possibly for drainage but also another source for water entry. If you just want something that will dry off easily and not get ruined by water, they will do the trick. But I don't think it will keep your feet dry if you have to walk a lot, which is what I'm still looking for.

    2. They're really cute and pretty comfortable, but I'm afraid they're going to stretch out. If you don't mind that, I would totally go for it. :]

      Delete
    3. Miss JR - I am 7.5 and the 7s were too tight. They didn't stretch. The 8s were too big. The idea totally works for what you want. I.e. when the ground is wet but it's not nesc raining and you don't need a boot. I got the Julianna Too by Kate Spade. I love them. I took a 7 in these and they fit great. They're sturdier than the rainy day ballet flats, too.

    4. I love the rainy day flats! I just got a second pair from J Crew Factory online. I wear size 8 and my feet are wide so the flats always feel a little tight at first. Once I broke in my first pair, they were super flexible and fit like gloves. They don't necessarily keep your feet dry but when its raining and still 90 degrees out, I don't mind.

  23. I also ordered the Altuzara Sabrina dress. I tried the lighter blue. The stitching and seeming was nice and had boning and a built in bra. I feel like it is over priced though. I might buy it if I can catch it on sale. It is a flattering cut. Fits TTS.

  24. Any one tried the jersey Lomellina swimsuits? I am looking at a one piece and just wondering about any sizing, quality, etc. Any feedback. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have 2 Lomellina suits. The fabric is much more delicate than their usual swim wear. The bottoms fit large. I sized down from my usual. Found the same problem in their bandeau tops. But I do love the feel of the fabric, the style and colour. If you're looking for a bask-in-the-sun suit, they're great. But if it's an every day all-summer suit you're looking for, you might want something a bit more durable.

  26. Finally received both the Altuzarra Patricia dress and top today after waiting a month for the back order . Just as I thought after reading other jca reviewers the dress is too big. I ordered a small my usual Jcrew size and thought it might fit similar to the rowboat or rugby stripe dress both of which are perfect in the small but not so. The Patricia top is cut small. I wasn't sure off the fit so I ordered xs,s, and m. The xs came today and it is tiny. Sleeves are very tight & I have chicken arms. Size up if you can find this. For reference I usually wear a 4 in cafecapri, 2-4 in skirts/dresses and xs, s in sweaters and tops. I am so disappointed and will now be on a hunt for the xs dress and hope the s top comes in soon even though it is too hot here already to wear!

    1. Shopping Celle, I second that on the small sizing of the Patricia Top :(. The shirt/trunk part was okay for me in an xs but the sleeves were way tight(I have chicken arms too, LOL). Love this top though! Sooo flattering, wish I could exchange for a small or medium but oh well. On the other hand, the Patricia dress in sz small was perfecto! Hurray! For reference, I am usually a small/4 in tops/ dresses or a 6 in button fronts.

  27. I agree with some of the other reviews of the cha cha dress--linen too heavy/rough. Also neither colors worked for me (red too orange and white not very versatile). I loved the silhouette though, if they reissue this dress in other colors/fabrics I will definitely need to try it!

As an update on the sabrina dress, I ended up keeping it and having a tailor remove the padding from the bust. Much more flattering now. :)

Just got bureau jacket and skirt in bright papaya. Also too orangey for me and the puff sleeves on the jacket are unflattering on me. Fabric is somewhat rough/scratchy. Going back.

  29. My on-line order arrived yesterday and I am completely in love with the Porcelain Paisley skirt. I haven't been this excited about a garment in several years. I got that feeling I used to get when finding something incredible at Anthro, before they abandoned their original aesthetic.

I had also ordered the tiered dot tank in faded jade but I will be returning it. The color is a *too* faded for me and the fabric is too heavy for summer imo.

    1. Yes I agree-- it was more faded irl. The online pic jade color looked much more vibrant.

  31. Does anyone know if the seersucker cafe capris will shrink in the wash?

    ReplyDelete
  32. UPS man just brought Smocked top in dapple dot. It's going back. It's so thin and cheap...and totally see through. I'd have to wear a cami underneath with defeats the point of a summer tee shirt. I hesitated over the price tag of 59.50 ( seriously!!) but thought if it worked, I'd wear it a lot during the summer. No way. This shirt is less than Old Navy quality and should be priced as such.

  33. I have a question about the linen cafe trousers. The unlined ones were on promo for $98 (though look to have gone back up to $118 in most colors) and come in navy, festival green, lemon splash, and flax.

I've seen reviews of the green ones that have mentioned that they're lined. The LINED cafe trousers in linen are only available in white online. Have they sold out in other colors? Or are the other colors only in-store? Anyone know?

    Thanks!
