"Thanks!" to many of you, including Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), as well as Irina, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).
The latest catalog (click here to view) is not yet available to view (at time of posting). However, they will put it up later in the day. (Similar to last time.) As we already know, the new catalog is a destination catalog. There are several gorgeous on-location images of Bali. Yey!
Cute! Well J.Crew has anchored me down with all their adorable anchor print merchandise! The Anchor Popover Hoodie (Item 86292; $80.00) is just darling thanks to the small embroidered anchor on the front. The whimsical T-shirt Dress in Dizzy Anchors (Item 12171; $68.00) is perfect for those lazy Summer days. Not sure how it will look on my pear-shaped body, but I think it's adorable!
Lastly, the Anchor Bead Charm Bracelet (item 94913; $65.00) is a throwback to their bracelets of 2007. All I can say is LOVE!
Resurgence! A lot of items are coming back, and in multiples! The Bubble necklace (item 92687; $150.00) is now being offered in six new delicious shades. Personally, I {heart} the navy version. Can't wait to get my hands on it! The Biennial Satchel (Item 57107; $348.00, select colors $278.00) is back too, with three more colors (Blue Sea, Tangier Orange, & Dark Bone) that are perfect for Summer.
Sale! There is a nice update to the Spring Sale (click here to shop online), with over 1100+ items for Women and 280+ for Men. Definitely worth checking out!
Random! Lastly, there is no new promotion being offered at J.Crew currently. For awhile it seemed like they offered one promotion after another. It feels like forever since we have seen one. Maybe another will pop up for the weekend?
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)
OT, but I think I recall comments about wanting the seersucker schoolboy blazer but it being sold out -- back online this morning in sizes 4 and 6...
ReplyDeleteLove:
ReplyDelete--High Waist Double Serge shorts
--Hologram Tweed Jacket
--Tiered Dot Tank
The tweed jacket is just a dream item for me. It's too expensive. I will probably get the shorts--I love a high waist.
I like lots this time, obviously the porcelain pencil skirt and dress though like Ema I have nowhere to wear the dress to, I also love the navy, more wearable swiss dot dress oh and the pink cotton pencil skirt - pink, my loving pink is unheard of!
ReplyDeleteI love the Inez sandals and heels - reminds me of the Alaia laser cut patent shoes from a couple years ago. Also love the Lara peep toe heels as well. The Hologram Tweed jacket looks beautiful but the price is eye-popping. Sigh... lots to admire here!!
ReplyDeleteThose new Wrap dresses: $325 for 100% polyester. No, no, no.
ReplyDeleteThink I might order the Seersucker Attache dress to try on if I can't get to a B&M, and I also like that Tiered Dot Tank in white.
ETA: Seersucker Attache dress is online only.
DeleteI am a huge fan of wrap dresses in general. I saw those this morning and seriously could not fathom how polyester dresses, no matter the style, could be at that price point. J. Crew needs to take a step back.
DeleteI am likely in the minority (seems that way lately) but I was totally underwhelmed. I bought the porcelain paisley skirt and I wonder if I would have even bought that without all the hype in the blogosphere before the online rollout. So much of J.Crew looks like fast fashion to me. Overly trendy designs and sub-par quality that you can find elsewhere for much less, if you even want it. How on earth J.Crew can be considered a design darling is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteVery underwhelmed also.. was expecting lots of cute new tees, tanks, shirts/tops. Only thing that caught my eye was the anchor sweatshirt but I'm not paying $80 for a sweatshirt bc it will probably sell out in my size.
DeleteI ordered the Porcelain paisley skirt this morning to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Also got the Dree dress after reading on someone's blog that it fit like the blouson dress (adore those), and the t-shirt dess in dizzy anchors. I overdosed on the 'lade with that last one. I am one of those people who loves to see the "critter" prints but don't actually wear them. But I love all things nautical. My nautical side won this round, so we'll see how it works out.
ReplyDelete2questions- anyone try the linen sweaters? There are so many at Jcrew and I would love feedback on quality. Like do they snag and run or torque?
ReplyDeleteAnd secondly, very minor but, where are those mint green Bermudas the model is wearing with a sweater? Can't find that color. Thanks ladies!
pathos: That color is available in the 5" chino short here. It's called 'daiquiri ice'.
DeleteAh bummer. I like 7-9". Thank you FFM!
DeleteHaven't purchased a linen sweater but tried on the stripe linen tippi and hated it. I thought the weave looked messy around the neckline and it was very sheer and not soft. Probably how linen is meant to be but I wasn't a fan.
DeleteI tried 2 of the linen swing sweaters (one in stripe, one in the turquoise color). It's a messy weave. Lots of imperfections. I returned the turquoise one because of that. I kept the striped one because I thought the imperfections didn't show as much. I think it's just the way the material is, but I don't like it (but I do like the sweater overall, it's cute and runs big). These sweaters look snagged in places, even though I don't think they were, and they also seem like they might actually snag. I will wash the striped one very carefully to avoid snagging.
DeleteI tried both the Tippi in Linen here and the new Stripe Linen Open-Stitch Sweater here and prefer the Tippi, most definitely.
DeleteI have the linen v-neck cable knit sweater in two colors and both have torqued after washing. No snags yet.
DeleteLike Meg I tried the Stripe Linen Tippi and hated it. I couldn't find one without a flaw and they all had "bacon neck" (when the trim around the neck is wavy and stretched-out looking). Plus it was sheer and would have required layering.
DeleteThe first one I tried had a major snag and when the SA brought me a new one it had a giant hole along one of the arm seams.
Bummer again! How can they only offer one type of sweater and have the material suck? Oh wait they offer another type- super baggy shapeless cashmere.
Deletexoxo, I am right there with you. There were 1 or 2 pieces I was kind of interested in, but I know how this story goes:
ReplyDelete- New rollout hype
- Items appear online, people order, anticipatory fun in the blogosphere
- Some stuff goes to long backorder right away
- Items are received/seen in stores; reviews pour in that many are not what they seem/not worth FP
- Items that people do keep fall apart after washing wearing, deemed not worth FP
- Said items go to sale in 2 weeks; return/rebuy cycle begins
- New rollout hype begins
A comedian (Bill Hicks? Louis CK? I can't recall) said something to the effect of he was so down on relationships that he couldn't see an attractive woman without seeing their potential relationship ending terribly. That pretty much sums up how I feel about JC's new arrivals nowadays.
silver lining that's a brilliant and all too true analysis
Deletesilver_lining, you are spot on, as always.
DeleteLOL! It is both sad, funny, and true! ;)
DeleteITA, although I feel a little funny about it because I do the previews from the concept store and therefore I am responsible for some of the hype. But I guess that's why we are all here, none of my friends have any interest in what is in the newest 'rollouts', when they need something they just go the store and if they find something they buy it, no need to discuss it or get upset or disappointed.
Deleteajc, I really appreciate your reviews and photos and did not mean to imply anything negative about your or any blogs specifically. The details provided are so important, especially since any of us can't get to a store and the website doesn't allow reviews or ratings.
DeleteI seek out the information and if I feel I was persuaded by a blog then I should be more judicious and stop complaining.
Looking at it another way, every blog that I saw with the porcelain paisley skirt had the blogger raving about it so if you hadn't let us know it was coming it may have sold out and I would have missed it. So thank you for your reviews and previews!
Silver-Lining, Conratulations!! It seems you have weaned yourself off the crewlade. :) We must be on the same page today! This is the first roll-out in a long time where I loaded up my cart, rolled through the cycle in my head, and decided not to repeat it. Ahh, maybe I'm really not insane afterall! However, I did pick up some new madras items and a striped sequin tank from factory, and the new blue hydrangea bangle from jcrew.
DeleteI really like the ocean blue stripe silk cami and the stripe cotton underwire tank swimsuit although I'm not sure why....I like the idea of layering it under some high-waisted shorts or a skirt and since it's cotton, it won't be obviously a swimsuit. BUT, can someone please explain why the same suit is on net-a-porter for $20 less than the JC price? Especially considering JC charges tax and shipping.
ReplyDeleteClaire - that really bugs me too, it's much cheaper for me to buy through Net a Porter int the UK but alas, they only have tiny edit and I have different tastes to their buyers.
DeleteI think Jcrew is doing extremely well this season (I base this off the fact that everything is always sold out!) Therefore, I don't think they will be offering a promotion anytime soon!
ReplyDeleteXOXO, I'm with you. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. To be fair there are a few skirts and dresses I might be interested in if they weren't so short. I'm sure you all are tired of hearing me harp about this but just 3 years ago, 22" was the petite length and the regular lengths on skirt was 24". I'm tall. That I could wear. Every dress comes with the "hits above knee" description. Most of the tops and jewelry and shoes resemble something I already have in my closet, or I could get at another store much less expensively. In short, there's nothing special in my opinion. I'm glad other people are finding things to like. It's been ages since I bought anything from J. Crew. I've had a $100 gift card languishing on my desk for months.
ReplyDeleteIKWYM Desert Flower. The skirts and dresses have been getting shorter. The Altuzarra Manon skirt is 24" long and very nice but given your conservative office I doubt you could wear a denim skirt to work.
DeleteYou've said it right, there's nothing special.
I pre-ordered the deck skirt when I thought it was knee length. Now that I see it's 22" long, I'll be returning it as soon as it arrives. I am moderately tall & getting older, and I like the 25" length best of all. I hate it that so many beautiful pencil skirts are too short.
DeleteI really like the Dree Dress in Deck Stripe. http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/sleevelessandoneshoulder/PRDOVR~85741/85741.jsp
ReplyDeleteI bought it in the store on Tuesday..and it will look great with a colorful belt!
I actually ended up liking a lot! Here's what made it to my "wishlist":
ReplyDelete-No. 2 Pencil in Deck Stripe (like both colors but I'm leaning toward the orange)
-Scatter Dot skirt (of course)
-Vintage Cotton cap sleeve tee in stripe (in both turquoise and blue colors...although I'm wary of jcrew tees)
-Drapey Elbow sleeve tee in stripe (in mint/orange color)
-Lara peep-toe heels in either color, but esp. the orange/purple. I'm just am not a fan of the ankle strap though...
I'm hoping to make it to a b&m this weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to see some of these in person.
My cart was emptied...does this usually happen when they update the website? No big deal, but I had some things in there in colors I can no longer find on the website. :/
ReplyDeleteI like a lot of the things but what I have REALLY been waiting for is the telegram bag- it was a spring preview item, the cobalt blue suede, and I actually called JC a couple times about it. First it was May they would have it, now it is June...come on! (cougar town anyone?) I want to see it!!
ReplyDeleteI posted links to pictures and reviews of several items in this rollout HERE.
ReplyDeleteFor people who like the Deck Stripe skirt, I will have a review soon but I thought it runs small in the hips and I have no hips to speak of). I had to size up from my regular 4 to 6.
wow...check out those prices $595 for the tweed jacket. Notice the fancy kerchief skirt and capris are both on sale now. Did anyone ever order those? I think very shortly as before these novelty pieces will be on sale. As for the sandels\shoes I think we will see them all in the sale section in a month or so. Over priced for minimal quality.
ReplyDeleteRe: the tweed blazers, Zara has some really cute very similar tweed blazers this season in the $80-$130 price range. I just bought one over the weekend, and it's not cheap-looking. They have extended size ranges online and shipping is free.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteLots of loves in this rollout. Review of the new Stripe Linen Open-Stitch Sweater here and of the Scatter-Dot Dress here.
ReplyDeleteOops! Stripe Linen Open-Stitch sweater is here.
DeleteA few things caught my eye:
ReplyDeletePolly popover in silk-screen dot, Tessa top in safari cat, Drapey elbow-sleeve tee in stripe (if it isn’t too sheer), Anchor popover hoodie. The Camp Popover and Boy shirt in classic white intrigue me because I need a casual white shirt and I can’t find one for the life of me!
I was excited to see some t-shirt dresses pop up, but after further examination, I’m disappointed. The material looks like it may be way too thin and clingy to do my body any justice. I was hoping for a t-shirt dress that was comparable to last year’s weekend dress in stripe with that slub cotton. I wear that dress all the time…perfect material..not too thin but not too thick either.
My favorite pieces are the linen short in safari cat and the Ella dress in porcelain paisley. I don’t think the dress will ever make it to my closet though with the price.
When are the new arrivals hitting the stores?
OMG, I just read a copy and realized that the Neon-stripe skirt is poly. $425 for polyester skirt? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteRather off-topic, but I'm sure the lovely ladies (and gentlemen!) here must know the answer to my question: Am I able to return merchandise (new and with tags) for store credit? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am assuming you do not have a receipt. If you don't then you technically can't return merchandise at all, but the store manager may let you exchange. Highly unlikely, though.
DeleteIf you don't have the receipt, sometimes SAs can look up the purchase if you bought it with a credit card. I've had that happen before.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you bought it online, they should be able to look it up, or you can print off the invoice from the website.
I really really hope this anchor dress is more flattering. Can't wait to try it on this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi ajc - don't get me wrong, I like the hype! (love your blog, btw - I check it daily) I just wish that the quality of the pieces lived up to the pictures of the items we see. I hate hearing about JCA's dealing with split seams, popping buttons, broken jewelry - all after such minimal wear.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I find JCA and all of the 'satellite' blogs to be totally invaluable when making purchasing decisions. They're tons of fun and I love to read and participate them. It just irks me that JC has such a wealth of free information (opinions, focus groups, etc.) at their disposal and just refuse to do anything about their pitiful quality. But then, as long as they're still selling out items - why should they?
I ordered the Porcelain paisley skirt along with the jade tiered dot tank and scored the Molokini board shorts on sale for my husband! If he grumbles about the $300 charge on the credit card, I can at least claim that he got some cool swim trunks out of the deal ;-) !
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are out of their minds on the prices for the polyester pieces.
ReplyDeleteOne of the only items that interested me from this roll out was the plaid boucle jacket. The piping looked bright pink on my computer. However I just popped into my B&M, and IRL the piping is neon orange and purple. The neon orange was just too much so it was a pass for me.
I'm kind of over all the multiples. I would like to see more differing styles.
Seriously, when are they going to post the June catalog.
ReplyDeleteFYI The Scatter Dot Dress is already on sale in stores for $109.99. Was quite shocked to see that last night at my B&M
ReplyDeleteMB, I'm not surprised. It's been in the stores for at least 3 weeks now. That would qualify as 'old stock' by now. :D
DeleteTo reply to Silver Lining, Just Visiting and string above (reply not working) - I also just reviewed "the cycle" in my head after visiting my B&M to make some returns this afternoon. Left empty handed.
ReplyDeleteSTACKS of foulard cafe capris (that I got for (I thought) a great deal on sale with 30% off FS - they are now marked even lower with no promo at $49.99), rows of pencil skirts marked way down (cotton No 2s, abstract leopard, feather paisley, etc.), the Trudy yellow peacoat at $39.99! The list goes on and on...
Full disclosure - I did order the porcelain pencil skirt, I do think that is “ye olde j crew of yore” special. Otherwise, I’m sitting it out.
I thought J Crew might be getting their pricing/inventory straightened out which was why we weren’t seeing as many promos. After what I saw at the store today – SO many NEW and “hot” items on sale already – I see they don’t have it figured out.
BTW - ajc - I love your reviews - they are so helpful and I get to see so many items I will never see in my store. Thank you!!
Those foulard capris are hideous. That is definitely a case of people buying under the influence of something and whatever it is I don't want it. Jcrew feels like buying a car. The original price is just the starting point and not what you expect to pay in the end. If they didn't cut prices to the bone they wouldn't move majority of the inventory.
DeleteSome more reviews here.
ReplyDeleteThere were several bloggers that posted photos and reviews of the paisley skirt so I wouldn't say there was any one in particular. Didn't we see this or something like it in the lookbook too?
ReplyDeleteThe $600 Hologram Tweed jacket seems to be sold out already in many sizes. I guess the price wasn't a barrier to many!
ReplyDeleteShort of some adorable Crewcuts dresses, surprisingly this roll-out is a bit of a "meh" for me. I did like the Ring Around Eyelet Top, but like others have mentioned, I hesitate to purchase it full price knowing full well this item will probably show up in the sale section.
ReplyDeleteI think the last few seasons at J. Crew have been my turn to be in the minority and feel completely disconnected with the aesthetic. Nothing caught my eye this time (save the Perfect Fit Tee color Blue Pool, which I'll probably pick up in a long-sleeved and short-sleeved version), but that's pretty much what I was expecting. It looks like J. Crew's been heading back to their classic territory from pre-Fall-2009 in recent seasons; unfortunately for me, I think I'm just not the customer or demographic for that look. J. Crew first landed on my radar in 2010 precisely for moving into more fashion-forward territory. I miss pieces like the Silk Taffeta Riveter Coat, Olivia Shift Dress, Crinkled Silk Tempest Skirt (on me), and my beloved Bi-Stretch Wool Zip Minnies (on me) and Camden Two-Tone Brogues. I'm actually not too terribly disappointed though, as during the year-and-a-half or so when they went with the new aesthetic, I basically went on a spending spree, so some financial sobriety for a while might not be a bad thing for me!
ReplyDeleteOh, but one thing that is unforgivable to me - they stopped making the Perfect Fit Tees in the Slim Scoopneck cut! Unforgivable. Scoopnecks are insanely flattering on the female figure - let me number the reasons:
ReplyDelete1. The low cut shows off the collarbone and sternum area.
2. The low, round cut, unlike a V-neck, does not dip into the flat part of the chest, but rather stretches across the chest, held up by the volume of the chest, so it doesn't make you look flat.
3. V-necks can be tricky when worn under another layer that has a V-neck, such as a cardigan, especially if that V is asymmetrical, such as in a motorcycle cut (see how wonky my henley tee looks there w/ its indicator of centrality - buttons?).
4. The current offering, the Ballet-Button Tee doesn't do it for me b/c sleeves that end above the elbow make your arms look short, and my arms are already as short as those of someone 2"-6" shorter than me!
So pleeease, J. Crew, bring back a short-sleeved scoopneck Perfect Fit tee. Right now I'm even buying the crewneck cut, planning on altering them into a scoopneck!
I agreen on the need for more functional but still flattering cotton tees. I just got the ballet button u mentioned and it is really wide and low cut. Plus the torso is very long so it ends up bunching on your abdomen.
DeleteI have to say that I'm really annoyed by all the sheer tees and dresses and the loose-stitch sweaters. I hate wearing underlayers because of the bulk it adds to my chest, so that aspect ruins a lot of items for me that I would otherwise love.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I haven't been into the polka dots at all but the scatter-dot dress is really appealing to me. I think the shape would be really flattering. I'm jealous that it's already on sale in stores! I've never stepped into a J. Crew in my life...
All said, it's fun to look, but I won't be purchasing till I see some major discounts with extra % off codes (and by that time I'll probably have found everything I need elsewhere, so probably not!).
Has anyone seen the neon tweed short sleeved jacket? I'm wondering what the colors are.
ReplyDeleteI really love the Attache dress but hated the linen-canvas fabric (scratchy!) so I'm excited to see it in the new cotton seersucker fabric. But I'll have to wait til promo time to buy it.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited that the anchor iphone cover is back in stock...but has anyone seen it in stores? Paying $9 in shipping for a $20 item is absurd. I guess I could always just add more things to my cart though :)
ReplyDeleteHi Gina:
ReplyDeleteYou could always go to a store and order it on the red phone. That way, you won't have to pay shipping.
Still no new catalog in my mailbox but the Schoolboy seersucker jacket was a pop-back yesterday and only in my size (WEIRD!) so I jumped on it. It's backordered till 7/1, but whatever. At least I got to spend my rewards card finally. Nothing else is really jumping out at me lately. It's almost all a bit predictable/boring.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Life as a cat (reply does not work) in that I liked the more fashion forward JCrew and I am just not excited about what is coming out of late. If I had the legs for it I would have been all over the crinked silk tempest skirt. I LOVED the look of that skirt. Their shoes out right now are of very low quality. And, they are making the straps that go into the buckle across the top of the foot too short to be buckled. :(
ReplyDeleteJust reviewed some items:
