J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Thanks to both of you for your review of the Marci wedges, I thought they would be great to wear with some of my longer jeans in the summer but now NOT. I found the same issue with the Lilibeth sandals, cute but uncomfortable IRL.

  3. Well I wore my Factory pencil skirt (37415) in natural for the FIRST time to the "office" - and like many others - I heard a rip and sure enough the seam split up the back! Along with all the small holes in my tees I am becoming greatly disappointed with my Jcrew clothes - and that would account for about 80% of my closet.

  4. I love the cha cha dress in modern red. I wore it this past weekend at my anniversary dinner. The material is in heavy linen but it doesn't feel heavy at all. I love it! I live in NYC and people were definitely checking out the dress. Just add a nice necklace to the dress..some people paired it with a patent belt.

  5. OT, but just had to share how much of a JCA I am. The Sartorialist posted a pic yesterday that is a J Crew outfit top & bottom...check & see... am I right?

  6. Re: Perfect-fit ballet button tee item 72716 Worn one time this weekend for a day and there was a hole in each underarm, one the size of a quarter. (It's as though the threads were never closed & secured to the shirt.) No stress on the top during wear, and it fits me properly. JCrew did a pre-return credit and is sending a new top that has been through 'quality check' before releasing it. It's a easy to wear, very cute & flattering top - other than the holes! ;P

  7. Wore my merino lace tatted sweater (63052) this weekend for the first time and an hour later it had pilled badly all across the chest. Grrrr.

    1. Silver, when I saw a few on clearance earlier this year, every single one was pilled and badly snagged, so I passed on it even though I loved it. :( Sorry that happened!

  11. Has anyone seen or tried any of the Super 120 pieces in the Poppy Grove colour? I'm wondering what the colour looks like in real life, if it's a true red or more orange? TIA!

    1. My PS told me that poppy grove was an orange-red, but closer to a true red than vibrant flame. I'm excited to try the pencil skirt once we get a FP promo.

  12. I received one of the striped painter boatneck tees in the mail yesterday and I have 2 comments. One is that these run a little small/tight. I have not bought a J Crew knit item in a Large basically ever, but based on the fit of a non-striped painter bateau I bought a short time ago, I took a chance and ordered a Large. I'm glad I did -- a Medium would have clung to my backfat, ick!

They're also running quite long, like the boater tees from earlier this year. I don't mind it much, but I do think the shirt would fit better if it was about 2 inches shorter. I'm not a big tucker-inner. :P

  14. I received the ankle zip toothpick jeans yesterday - despite being a consistent size 4 in pants and skirts, the size 27s were a tad too tight and gave me the dreaded muffin top. Otherwise, the spearmint colour was quite nice. My only concern is that these might look dated very quickly once the coloured jeans fad passes.

I am super happy with my Trudy peacoat. I got it during one of the additional 30% off promos and it was well worth the price. The cropped cut has a slight swing silhouette which works well with pencil skirts. Runs TTS. I took the larger of my two dress sizes and am glad I did, because the smaller size would have been too snug in the shoulders. The sleeves are cut narrow, which I like. Plus it is fully lined in good quality acetate, a touch that is often missing these days. I chose burnished khaki and that was a good choice - it's a dark khaki that contrasts well against black and navy blue.

I also posted an IRL pic of the Polly popover in stripe silk crepe de chine on my blog (link here) - I got the navy/green stripe. Fit is generous - I took the smaller of my dress sizes (size 4) and I could have gone one more size down. The sleeves are very long. Otherwise, it's a lovely top and if you can get it on popback, I definitely recommend it, it's very flattering and eye-catching.

  15. I received the Madelene dress and it's beautiful and really versatile. Thumbs up, and thanks to shopwithM for the heads up when it went on sale! I also received the yellow factory bubble necklace and I really like it. It's a slightly smaller scale than the retail version. I'm on the fence about the linen swing sweater. It seems very snaggy and I'm not sure if I will keep it. Even brand new, it's got imperfections in the fabric.

  16. I bought the Pearl Jewel Box Earrings for my upcoming wedding. They are very beautiful, but HUGE. The pearl alone is about as large as your ear lobe. I knew this when I ordered them, but I imagine it would be surprising otherwise as they do not look so large on line. They are also very heavy, and hang hard on your ears. I absolutely love them. They have a great vintage feel to them.

  17. I snatched up the silk blouson dress in stripe in navy during the last "secret" sale. Love it! The color is much prettier IRL. The silk seems feels very nice too and not flimsy. Pairs great with a blazer or cardigan because it's so lightweight. I love the blouson silhouette, it's simple and feminine. But I might have the hem taken out a little. This dress will get a lot of wear this summer!

Also got the ruched Betty swim tank top and matching bikini in "shallow sea." At $42 for the whole set I thought I'd give it a try. Glad I did! The tank swings out quite a bit especially in the back on me. But since I'm narrow-hipped this gives me a little of an hourglass shape. The color is super pretty too! Vivement les vacances!

  18. purchased the AUDRA patent sandal in tangier orange and I LOVE. Very cute. Need a little getting used to the ankle strap but I have received nothing but OH THOSE ARE THE CUTEST SANDALS. I also received the linen swing sweater in mint; ADORE. SO CUTE. I usually wear a medium in sweaters but went a size lower and it's perfect. The mint color is really nice.

    1. Thanks for the + thumbs up for the sandals. They are cute. I'll consider them on my next online purchase.

Ps the only linen swing sweater that shows up online is an xxs lemon. Are there more?

  19. Tried and bought the Altuzarra Sabrina dress. Absoluetly loved the fit and the white bow around the waist. There is also a built in bra. I can't wait to wear it with a white blazer and a pearl necklace I bought from Jcrew.

  20. Pleasantly surprised by the Hutton trench trouser in Linen. I bought it during the last secret sale on my neverending quest for the perfect white summer pant. I normally don't go for high waisted pants and skirts, or pleats, but these are amazing. Talk about the illusion of legs for days.

The fabric is excellent quality and quite substantial. And it's fully lined in cotton! Kudos J.Crew! I feel so chic in these, I'm actually considering more Hutton pants.

  22. Took out my Neon Azalea jackie cardi to wear, for the first time. As I'm unbuttoning it, for the first time, one of the buttons cracked and broke in half. Thankfully it's one of the lower ones, so I just wore it, as I didn't have time to rethink my outfit, and no one noticed. Last year, same thing happened to another jackie. So not worth FP.

    1. CC, I wore my neon azalea for the first time yesterday as well. I didn't have a button fail, thankfully. Sorry to hear that. It's so disappointing.

    2. And...now the cuff on my vintage v neck tee is unraveling.

Oh! And one of the buttons on a dark red (B&M-only colour) jackie is chipped! Just caught it! Guess I should mosey over to the Vent thread (eye roll).

  26. Hi everyone! I posted a review of the Puffection dress in stripe. Adorable! TTS to size down on this. Review!

I also ordered the pink stripe tank and the printed eyelet top from Factory. Both are cute, just size down in the eyelet top.

  27. I received several sale items yesterday. The gondola stripe tee is great and I'm wearing it today. The texture almost feels like washed silk. I sized down from my usual 0-2 in tops to an 00 and it's fine, still a little slouchy, even.

I had caught a popback of the navy Allura shift dress in superfine cotton in the sale so paid $55.99 for a dress that was originally $158. Usually I have trouble finding dresses that fit because I'm much bigger on the bottom than on the top so I have to choose a size in the middle. The allura (size 2) fits great and I love that it's not a high neckline (but not too low either). My only complaint is that it's 2-3 inches shorter than I want it to be (and I'm only 5'6"). There's about 1.25" inches in the hem that could be let out so I'm on the fence about whether or not to keep it and try to have the hem let out.

I also received 2 eyelet skirts and the raj paisley skirt. They're all nice skirts and the prices were great - I just need to figure out if I can justify adding 3 more pencil skirts to my collection. The colors on the raj paisley skirt were a little unexpected - I'm not sure I have all that much in my closet that will match. They're pretty colors, but I need to think more about potential outfits.

OT: There are several new items that have moved over to sale today.

  28. Any comments on the Apple Jardin skirt? I don't own any of the jardin skirts but am wondering if the waist is going to work for me as I prefer lower waist items....I did already call CS for measurements....just now sure. At least final sale is over but for all the jardin lovers need some help please. Thanks:)

  29. @Genny- not sure about the Apple Jardin skirt fit as I didn't try it but I have the purple Jardin skirt. I ordered my normal skirt size (ie pencil skirt size) 4 but wish I had gotten the size 6 because I would have preferred it to sit a little lower. I do find it sits higher on my waist. I kept the 4 because it was final sale at the time and I can wear it no problem but I feel the 6 would look better. I do find it's a comfortable skirt. HTH

  30. I just received the Sophia dress in silk tricotine. The fabric itself is quite substantial, and fully lined, and is actually quite forgiving. Sizing - like all J Crew items, it runs large, I ordered a 12 (I should be a 16 according to the sizing chart, on top anyways), and probably could have gone down to a 10. Fit - it is actually very much an empire waist (much more than it seems on the website), and it falls a little awkwardly, I'm very much an hourglass shape, I have a 10" difference between my waist and hips, and, it falls straight to my hips, and doesn't flatter my waist at all (probably because of the weight). The quality is very good though, it's fully lined, the seams all look good and the fabric seems to be in good condition. It's not awful, but, probably wouldn't have bought it had I tried it on in store first. I hope this helps someone!

  33. Has anyone tried the Altuzarra Corrine wedge espadrille? I would love to hear about the fit, the quality, maybe IRL pics? Can anyone compare it to the Seville wedge espadrille? I usually wear a 7-7.5 (EUR 38) in J. Crew. I love the style of the Altuzarra and the fact that it's leather but the Seville would probably suffer through summer easier. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
