This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
Review of the super cute rainy day flats here.
ReplyDeleteJust got the featherweight cotton cardi (featured in this post: http://smalltownbigwardrobe.com/2012/05/01/outfit-of-the-day-colorblock-party-and-a-giveaway/) and love the colors! I forgot how lightweight it is - can't wait to wear it in the summer when I need a little extra layer for my cold office.
ReplyDeletedid you buy you regular size or` did you size up?
DeleteTIA
Regular size - for me it fit TTS. When they say featherweight, they mean it!
DeleteHave not seen any mention of the colored denim shorts (72541) that are currently on sale for $49.99 (and don't forget MUSTSHOP for an extra 30% off). They are very very cute. Both colors are great, and although it is a 3" inseam, they don't seem as short b/c they run slightly big and sit on the hips -- kind of boyfriend-fit-ish.
ReplyDeleteAlso have not seen much about the Tillary bucket bags, which still show up online on sale. I picked up the striped canvas version at my B&M a couple weeks ago w/ the 30% off for less than $60, and it's a darling bag, hard to resist at that price. I generally don't like bucket bags b/c it is too hard to get things in and out, but this one really opens up like a regular bag; very easy to use.
reviews of Lucille dress, Margate purse and Marci wedge sandals HERE.
ReplyDeleteAlso some not (yet) on the website items HERE.
A couple of dress reviews here.
ReplyDeletecan somebody comment on the fit of the featherweight colorblock cardigan?is it TTS?
ReplyDeleteI didn't try the colorblock one but I tried the solid one and took the same size I do in Jackie cardigans. I could wear one size down, but I prefer sizing up in cardigans so they fit over button downs.
DeleteIna, I have a review here.
Deleterose,thank you so much!
DeleteTook the same size as I do in the Jackie Cardigan also. I have a larger chest and the top button is stretched a bit. Definitely couldn't size down in this one. Here's a pic of me in the dressing room with it styled like they do on the website. For reference, the cardigan is a size medium, white shirt is a small and the skirt is a 6!
Deletethanks christine!
Deletethanks christine!
DeleteOT but I guess they must have realized that shooting white wedding dresses against a white background was a bad idea... new blue background for wedding dresses!
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too! Even the dresses on clearance (Silk Chiffon Sophia) got brand new photos, which seems rather silly.
DeleteThe lighting is still terrible, hard to see details.
DeleteHappy May Day! I bought the floral silk bow sleeveless top and I LOVE it. Fits tts. I purchased the color-block card in pink/navy. I always do a med in sweaters/cardi because I like a little more room and this fits tts as a med. It's not a long card and comes to the top hips. Plan on keeping even though I was on fence all weekend. The anchor navy silk blouse is a love of mine. On the fence on the TESSA linen...tried the 6 and it felt like a bag; the 4 is backordered so I might wait until there is a decent promotion; just not sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews - I'm trying to decide if I need the pink colorblock cardi - I suspect it will not make it to sale.
DeleteI also tried the tessa and agree with your review. It puffed out in the back in an almost hilarious way. I don't know why they needed to put gathering on the back as well as the front!
hi shariyu, are you going to review the colorblock cardi on your blog?
DeleteHi Ina, yes I plan (fingers crossed) get to it this week. I really do heart it and when you find yourself thinking about clothing items in your sleep...you know you need to keep it.
DeleteI tried on the silk bow cami in floral today as well...had to try a 2 as there was no 0 in the store but even being slightly large (under the arms) I had a hard time leaving it! Such a pretty material....but can't justify $110 for a tank top at the moment.
DeleteI got the martina patent wedge in bronzed clay and the seville espadrille in modern red yesterday. Both are unexpectedly lovely. I've tended to look elswhere for shoes in the past, but these are a pleasant surprise (though not a complete surprise because the purchase was made after reading positive reviews by Rachel of Pink Peonies, DaniBP, and Rose).
ReplyDeleteI used to own a pair of Christian Louboutin wedges that were very similar to the martinas and much more expensive. It's a lovely nude shade, blending well with my skin tone. I normally don't like the look of wedges but these are pretty unobtrusive and very comfortable on my hard-to-please feet. I have a toddler and the heel height is comfortable enough that I can still keep up with him.
The sevilles are REALLY bright, but it's a nice pop of color in a small dose. They may be hard to match with a lot of stuff but I like them against neutral outfits. I don't know how they'll stand up, and it seems like getting them wet could be disastrous, but as long as I keep an eye on the forecast…They're even more comfortable than the martinas, and the neutral color of the wedge part of the shoe makes them less obviously a wedge.
I size up 1/2 a size on the martinas, as recommended, and went with my true size on the sevilles.
I'm very disappointed in the "printed summer scarf" in the garden print that is called "bold orange" on the website. I know this is the review thread, not the rant thread, but but my repeated frustration at misleading online color depictions has me at my wits' end (more about that later in the rant thread).
ReplyDeleteThe scarf is a lovely print but the photo must have been "brightened" considerably for the website. (I can't compare to catalog depictions because I haven't received a catalog for several months, grr, another rant.) The scarf background is dull ecru, not white. "Bold orange" is a misnomer--the "orange" is more of a reddish flame, which made it clash with the true orange items I'd intended to pair with the scarf. The scarf has less purple than depicted--a muted navy predominates.
All these complaints don't mean it isn't a pretty scarf. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it. But once again, a J.Crew item is not the color I expected!
My thoughts on the Teddie Dress here! :)
ReplyDeleteReview of the villa dress in stripe in this post. It's currently on promo for $68.
ReplyDeleteOT but Toronto JCAs might be excited to know that J.Crew appears to be taking over the Bebe store space at the Eaton Centre. The windows says J.Crew but nothing else (i.e. no date). It's not the space I had in mind as it isn't very big but exciting nevertheless for those of us who hate making the trek to Yorkdale to get our J.Crew fix.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the manager of the Yorkdale JC, the new store is scheduled to open in September. She said it would not have as wide a range as the Yorkdale store. Not sure if that means they will be putting the men's line into the same location at the Eaton Centre.
DeleteYeah, I know Yorkdale is considered a "Collection" store but I'm still happy we downtowners are getting a store.
DeleteFitting room reviews here. Items include Naomi polka dot top, Seersucker pencil skirt, a new knit dress, tee, and the silk polka dot dress.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a review of the Rococo Shell HERE and I have a review of the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Cotton in Succulent Green and Neon Pink HERE HTH!
ReplyDeleteReviews of the Seersucker Cafe Capris, Gingham Perfect Shirt and Naomi Top in Polka Dot HERE.
ReplyDeleteI have a request for a review! Has anyone even seen the Patricia top from Joseph Altuzarra? I have it on wait list order but I am beginning to think it doesn't exist ! Check out this top on Cara Delevigne on page 298 of the May issue of Vogue Magazine. The styling just makes me want it more! Hurry up Jcrew. ( the crazy sweater with holes is on page 111)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has done a review on the chambray cinch pant can you please help me with sizing? I ordered a small and they were so big they were unflattering, now I'm stuck between an xxs and xs. I'm normally a 2 but I want them fitted to look more flattering. TIA!!
ReplyDeleteA bit OT, but I thought it was interesting that J Crew is offering a factory version of the Dot Natasha top before the retail one has even gone on sale!

ReplyDeleteI know they've been reviewed a zillion times, but I just wanted to give some love to the Black and White Maritime Stripe Dress and the Stripe Blouson Dress, both recently purchased on sale and totally worth it. I now own 3 Maritime dresses (fyi: size down) and 2 Blouson dresses (fyi: the "Cerise" color is a Persimmon Orange, not a Cherry Red irl).
ReplyDeleteI went cami-crazy last week and ordered three.
ReplyDeleteThe silk bow cami in kelly green:
http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shirtsandtops/sleeveless/PRDOVR~83785/83785.jsp
So cute! The colour is so lovely and the fabric is not at all sheer. The bow is substantial and adorable. I think the fit is pretty true to size. Keeping this at full price because I don't want my size to sell out before sale.
From the factory store, I ordered the (Victoria ruffle top style?) Micro-pleated collar cami:

Very cute and excellent quality. It is poly though - I think I must be the only person who posts here who doesn't actually mind poly. I know, I know! It's just so easy to care for and it drapes well. Anyway, this isn't a keeper for me - the ruffles around the neck are just a bit too bulky. They seem to lay a little nicer in the stock pic than in real life. It's a little fussy/fiddly for me. TTS but looser fitting.
And also from the factory store, the garland cami look-alike - the Petal collar cami.
http://www.jcrew.com/womens_factory_category/allnew/PRDOVR~78480/99102676469/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~205+17~90~~~~~~~/78480.jsp
Also cute and good quality (a little sheer though). TTS, but quite loose fitting. I'm sending this back too I think. It's really cute but it's lacking a little oomph. The petals along the neck are kinda underwhelming somehow. Maybe if I had a steamer I could perk them up, but they just kinda lay flat and floppy.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of factory items!
what do you girls think of the ella dress in garden floral?
ReplyDeleteanyone try it on? if so, how does it fit?
http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/strapless/PRDOVR~85749/85749.jsp
since this is jcrew's signature print this spring, do you think it's likely to go on sale? meaning they made a lot of these dresses?

ReplyDeleteCashmereandchai: I just bought the ella dress- love it! I think it runs TTS. Am wearing it to a daytime wedding Saturday. Trying to decide how to style it-- ideas? :)
