What are your thoughts on the items slated for upcoming Fall 2009? Are you excited or disappointed? Which items do you love or would leave? ;)
Um, I am not sure about the puffer jacket & puffer vest. I don't think I will ever buy that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the third picture looks like the girl got dressed in the closet. Metallic skirt, plaid-like shirt, puffer vest, hot pink neon socks (wow!), and men-like shoes. And to top it all off, a belt over the puffer vest!
Am I just out of this year's coming trend? Well, if I am, I am not sure I want to be a part of that picture's trends....
But yet... The second picture -- the blush pink jacket is so adorable! I would love to take that home!!!

ReplyDeleteThe Holiday rollout seems early this year, I have noticed the GAP, BR started to put out their Holiday collection sooner too.

Thanks for sharing the images, Alexis and MM! The overall looks are a bit much, but there definitely are some cute pieces there. I always look forward to their coat rollouts. Also, it's nice to see some smiling models for a change!
ReplyDeleteI guess J Crew has decided to become the premium purveyors of hip-slung pants, pencil skirts, classic wool coats, and cardigan sweaters, because that's mainly I see when I look at their photos--these same items reiterated in various colors and fabrics. I'd like some more distinctively structured and colored items. Maybe I need to look elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteIf I ever need another pair of hip-slung pants, a pencil skirt, or a cardigan sweater, I'll know where to go however. For what they are, they're nice.
I love that wool trench ... I will keep my eye out for that :)

ReplyDeleteThis pretty well sums up what I have been buying from J Crew for about the last 5 years, so I do not see that their offerings have changed greatly.
I do like that pink coat. It is not the spy trench. Very pretty!
I do wish they would have some non-pencil skirts in slightly longer lengths. I need some casual skirts that are longer than mid thigh on me...
Love the wool trench! Looks like JC is still trying to get that anklet & heels combo to take off. :)

That coat is lovely. I just bought a similiar coat at Anthropologie, though, so I'll probably pass on this one. But it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI like the puffer vest in chocolate brown. That's been at my B&M for a long time, and I'm hoping they'll mark it down a bit.
The anklets make me laugh every time I see them. And not in a good way.
Thank you Miss Masala and Alexis for sharing the photos. I like the pink coat but the collar could be a bit tricky. And is that puckering on the chest around the armholes? I hope it is not an indication of the shrinking sleeves people have reported lately. I know I wear long sleeves and sometimes even a couple of layers under a coat. Better be some room under there. If we have to SU the whole fit will be off.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I wouldn't wear 90% of the items they style they way they do, but I have mixed and matched some things in the last couple of years that I would not have tried if I had not seen some of their layouts.
I do wish they would button sweaters in the right holes ;).

I agree that the collar could be tricky, and I will not buy a coat that doesn't look at least passable both buttoned and unbuttoned. I think that the puckering is caused by the way her arms are pulled back. I have been really complaining about shrinking arms lately, but I have more of a problem with diameter. Every jacket and coat I have tried has been long enough in the armholes even over layers.

ReplyDeleteRegarding the tricky collar.... I bought the Fall 08 short mohair/wool coat (came in warm mustard & a red/orange) and find the collar easy to wear open or buttoned up. I rarely wear it buttoned up but it's nice on really cold days.
Casual Crew- From what I've heard retailers in general are starting their holiday advertising and rollouts earlier to capture as many sales as possible since there are fewer consumers this year.

ReplyDeleteLaura those suede MacAlister boots are a return to the preppy days IMO. I have a very similar black pair from J.Crew circa 2000, just a different non-crepe sole. They are really comfortable but look godawfully clunky and I would never pair with a skirt. Great for walking in the park or light yard work but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteThe styling on that outfit made me LOL. I thought Jcrew was going for granny-chic and not the granny-has-totally-lost-it-and-can-no-longer-dress-herself look.
They have to stop with the socks and the belts. Accessories are not to be deployed so recklessly.

Wow, this year's puffer looks like quite a downgrade from last year's which I fortunately purchased. I love the hood and belt on last year's... this one is far too boring for me.
ReplyDeleteI do like that they took the collar from last fall's Lucille jacket and put it on that pink trench. Adorable! Would totally buy that if I hadn't already purchased the ruffle front wool coat.
I love the pink trench and the pencil skirt. The puffer vest and jacket I will pass on, it never gets that cold here and I don't need to add any fluff!

I'm not seeing anything exciting either. The styling seems off. I realize they are working w/the same silhouettes in different fabrics & prints so they're trying to take it to another level, but they're jumbling them into a mess. My eye isn't falling on anything...except haphazardly tied belts & bright anklets. We're watching you, Crew.

ReplyDeleteSo true! The styling at JC is down-right humorous these days. Layers anyone? Still, I keep going back to JC for the wonderful array of colors. I can't find Spicy Olive, Dusty Blossom, Mars, Petunia, Antique Stone, etc. at other stores. Have a great weekend, everyone!
The styling is horrible! Oh, how I miss the Paris catalog styling! Nope, not the least bit excited...and that is saying a lot. I have spent less at JCrew in the past 2 months than ever before in an 8 year "I am crazy for JCrew period." My love affair has died this fall....

ReplyDeleteI agree w. my fellow JCAs that styling is a bit of a challenge. Of course, it is easier to attain that the "I've been sleeping in my boyfriend's closet" look that was popular last fall.
Reeeeallly wish they offered petites on the long skirts. Most esp that lovely silver lace, item #19029. However, I don't have $895 (eeeep!) to splash out on anything right now -- much less a skirt that's too delicate to alter :{
